Do know the germs and things you can bring home on your pet and shoes No one pick up dog poop just put paper napkins on it and left it. Staff just walk right by it. Dog beds are mixed and places and not marked correctly. They where spead out in the wrong tag places. Leashes and collars are all mix up. Honestly. Rude check out. I am just not crazy about this Petco store. First off, the entryway smells like dog pee. Sure, it's a pet store and that means dogs and their pee, but it probably wasn't the best idea to have carpet on the floor considering all of the furry pee factories frequenting it. Second, there are ferrets! Nothing is smellier than a ferret. I wish that the rodents lived toward the back of the store so they wouldn't be the second thing you smell (after the dog pee) when you enter the store. Call me a crazy cat lady (you wouldn't be wrong) but I also think the store has a greater selection of dog stuff than cat stuff. On top of that, I haven't been thrilled by the customer service. That is, with the exception of one experience. Jillian was very helpful when I wasn't sure which kitty litter to get or which kitty nail clippers to go with. Usually, there is no one nearby when you're staring at the zillions of varieties of litter. Another issue I have with this Petco is with their merchandising. Certain items are only on the ends of the aisles and are easily missed. I was looking for kitty claw caps and they were nowhere to be found (even the employees couldn't find them) when, at last, I stumbled upon them in the most random of places. I will admit, I haven't been to many Petco stores and I will continue to frequent this one for the convenience, but I never look forward to making these trips. read more

I bring my dog pretty often to get her nails cut and Bruce always does a good job. She never bleeds or cries. My dog is a huge crier and starts shaking when she's nervous but it's always fine with Bruce. She has definitely let loose at other groomers before but is fine here. The price is also fine too. I took a star off because the dog food aisle is always dusty. I don't get why there's so much dust sitting on the dry dog food. They do carry the refrigerated dog food here though which is nice. read more

4 stars for the grooming salon, 2 stars for store itself. The groomers are all very patient with my dog. He's a chill lab but gets a little nuts at the vet and the groomers. They have always done a fantastic job with him. The store itself sucks. The prices are very high and they don't have a great selection. They really push their own brand of items. Try Pet Supplies Plus on Mineral Spring, dog food is WAYY cheaper and so are treats! read more

I have to say, of all of the Petco's I've been to, this one has been the most pleasant experience- I think my dog enjoys going there more than I do, though! Whatever I go in looking for, they have had in stock, whether it be flea/tick control, toothbrushing supplies, or just food and treats. Every employee has been helpful and kind to both me and my pup. Is it perfect? No. But very few places are, especially chain stores. And honestly, I wasn't that impressed by the grooming that my pup got either time I took him- "just a trim" ended up being taking most of his hair, and the next time they forgot to put on and give back his collar. Convenient, makes the pup happy, and a decent rewards program, means we'll be back, probably pretty often! read more

Bring my dog to be cut here. Its alright. They do a pretty good job. Don't expect to walk in as they don't take your dog without an appointment. Petco can update your dogs profile for all stores. So it makes it easy for other stores to track shot updates. My dog has killer nails that need to be clipped. They don't seem to clip them well. I took my dog Addie in for a bath and grooming. Was told it would be about 3 hours, about 4 1/2 hours later they called and said she was ready for pickup. When I came in to pick her up they were still grooming her. After paying for the services the groomer told me that she had cut Addie while grooming her. I no longer feel comfortable bringing her in. read more

My go to pet store it's hours are super convenient for the working dog mom. It's clean and the staff is very customer service oriented. Plus if you need whole foods and a wine place they are right next door! read more

I gave this Petco a second chance since my last review and am now a happy customer. After numerous expensive haircuts at other groomers where they all cut my goldendoodle like a poodle, and other weird haircuts where he looked like a hot mess, we now bring our pooch to Bruce at this Petco and he does an awesome job every time. read more

I used to come here for years for dog grooming. Bruce is the best. But he has now moved to The Cheeky Hound at 727 Hope St, Providence. He's the best groomer we had. Very friendly and patient with our schnauzer DJ! Of course, when we found out he moved, we had to follow him. read more

I bought $100 worth of cat toys and dog snacks and by the time I made it to my car I realized I didn't pick up the fourth item to complete the buy 3 get 1 free Leaps and Bounds sale. I went back into the store to see the clerk. She was helping a customer on the floor. So I went to pick up the item I wanted and made it back to the register and she was there. I showed her my receipt and identified the three Leaps and Bounds items I just bought and let her know that I wanted this fourth item to fulfill the sale. She looked at my receipt at the bottom and said that I got the discount. She was, however, pointing out the two line items for the manufacturer's discount that I go on two other products. I explained the situation to her again. Then she said that maybe the sale was that you bought four and then you got one free. I let her know that that wasn't what the sign said. She called the manager saying that she needed help because I said some cat toys were on sale. He came and I told him the situation. He looked at the receipt. He said that I could take the toy and he'd write it off. While I'm glad the manager resolved the situation I have lingering concerns. First, it seems reasonable to me that the clerk would know whether or not there was a sale or would go to check the sign. Second, it seems reasonable to me that the clerk would know how to distinguish between manufacturer discounts and other sale items. Third, it seems reasonable to me to officially rectify the problem - it wasn't a write off, as if merchandise went missing, it was the rightful discount from a paid purchase. Most importantly, I have patronized Petco for as long as I can remember. Having had three animals at a time since 1999, I have spent and untold amount of money - besides the non-essentials I purchased today. I shouldn't have been treated as if I was trying to be unethical by attempting to cheat away a $10 item from Petco, especially after spending so much for unnecessary items that day. Honestly wondering if I'd be treated like I was up to no good if I were white. Regardless, this is NOT a good business practice. read more

It has a great selection of toys and food, but I got marginal hair cut for my dog. The first time it was great and the 2nd and 3rd time I had togo back to have them fix major issues with a basic puppy cut. If they have more coupons or better sales I'd go more often. read more

I was VERY disappointed. I returned after 3 hours to find they 1) hadn't cut her because she "wouldn't sit still" - she's really pretty good (not perfect! but lot better than some dogs!) and 2) hadn't let her go to the bathroom that whole time. This is the first negative Yelp review I have ever written (third Yelp review ever). I really don't like to be negative. But that whole time they just gave her a bath and didn't let her pee. Not only did they not give her the cut I brouhgt her in for, they didn't feel the need to text to pick her up early. I could tell that the girl wasn't going to do a good job when I dropped the dog off (something about her attitude) but I didn't listen to my feelings because, hey, it's their job. This petco is nice and big, and open late! I was able to get a very nice pet carrier for my kitty to go on the airplane. There's also plenty of toys, litter, food, etc, for a good price. The people are friendly, and don't mind if you return things. read more

So I have been trying my best since adopting two amazing pups this year ('15) to shop at mostly local, boutique pet stores. I love the few that we have in the Providence area, but alas for the essentials such as food, crates, bedding, etc were just too expensive and inconvenient to purchase at these stores. So yes, I find myself at a large chain pet store, but Petco is ok. This location usually has what I need, prices aren't awful (although pet stuff tends to be a bit pricey in general), and service is as expected at chain store such as this. I haven't found anything overly special at Petco vs other chain pet stores, but I usually am here to pick up dog food because the grocery stores don't always carry the all natural foods. They also have a really good selection of toys, which is good because my lab mixes destroy toys quickly. I also purchase my flea and tick meds and both of my pups tags. I like their engraving machine which allows you to pick a tag with a design of your choice and it engraves you contact info with your pet's name on it. It's a quick and easy process. They also carry lots of treats, foods, accessories, and they do have some live animals such as ferrets, fish, etc. They have pet training classes which I have not used but I know they offer. They do grooming and have some other services as well. Service here is good but not mind-blowing. I do enjoy their rewards program which has saved me some money over the year. Overall, I'll be back for the stuff that I'm not willing to shell out big bucks for but I try to shop locally when I can. read more

I am always wary of dog grooming salons, especially places like Petco, which have had some sad cases of groomer neglect brought to light recently. I am a crazy dog Mom, I hate leaving my pup anywhere, I mostly do quick grooming treatments which is fantastic at this location because you can watch your pet get brushed and their nails clipped, etc. But today I took him in for a bath and felt very comfortable doing it. The grooming staff at the Providence location is very caring and attentive and I trust them more than any other store. He had a full service bath and deshedding treatment and it was around $60, which is reasonable to me, usually he gets the "mini make-rover" which is also reasonably priced at around $20. For the customer service I receive, the loving treatment of my dog and efficiency of the staff, I highly recommend this location for grooming needs! read more

With covid-19 being a problem in these time we try to adjust to the current way of life. This means setting appointments for everything. Well I'm immobile and I have two options to set up an appointment call or online sign up. Sorry but with the saffistication of today's technology there are still problems. So calling is my only option. When your put on hold for fourthy-five minutes, and you hang up call back to speak to a manager and he acts like it's not his problem well that makes it impossible to make appointments via phone. This is horrible customer service and this is not the first instance . I walked in to set an appointment a couple a month ago and the employee never even looked up from her device to talk to me. Thank you petco. I did trust you guys to be there for my pet in time of need guess thats not going to happen. My advice find another location or different company. I'm personally switching companies I will never go to petco again. read more

This is the second time this week I've walked into and around this store. No one is ever available to help. You have to walk from one corner of the store to the other corner to find a living being. I'm giving this Petco two stars solely because the location is convenient if you live off of North Main Street in Providence (the parking lot/plaza it is in, however, is generally insane) and because it's fairly well stocked. Except for today, of course - they had a distribution issue with their Blue Buffalo and didn't have the type of food I needed, but that's not why I'm writing the review at all. I'm writing this review specifically of how the store is managed. If today was my first issue I've had with this Petco, I wouldn't write a review at all, but this is my third unpleasant experience in a row with them and I will never return. I'd rather drive far out of my way to go to ANY other pet store than to shop here again. Long, time-wasting story short, I walked through the entire store to find the item I needed, and finally, once I found it (the layout of the store is incredibly disorganized and hard to navigate - someone needs to hire a visual merchandiser and remerch this place, BIG time) it was under lock and key. I looked for a member of the staff to help me - nothing. So I decided I'd take my other items and wait in line at the cash wrap for my turn, and when I got there, ask for assistance. The only person at cash was the manager (the lady with the big, puffy, maroon-ish hair), who was on the phone and there was a line of three of us at that point. Instead of asking the person on the phone to hold, or better yet, asking for their number to return their call from the back office (can you tell I managed a store for two years?), she continued to talk on the phone while no other staff members covered her at cash. Finally, two other staff members came up to help as more people got in line (I'd guess 10 or so total). Mind you, it's a Friday night at 5:30 in the University Heights Plaza. It's ALWAYS chaotic at this time which is why the other stores in the plaza are well staffed. Makes sense, pad your stuff during traditionally busy times, right? Apparently not. Finally, when it was my turn to pay, I asked the staff member assisting me for help with the locked product and she subsequently asked the manager. The manager then said I'd have to wait for the rest of the people behind me in line to check out and then she'd get the key. Clearly this woman is the pinnacle of customer service expertise. Fed up (and having had time to search Amazon on my phone to find all of the products I was purchasing for cheaper, no tax, and free overnight shipping) I left without buy anything. This wasn't even the point where I decided I would never return to the store. That was when I went home, and decided to call the store just to give my feedback. Not to complain, not to ask for a credit, not even an apology. Just to let them know about my experience. After being hung up on (before speaking - could have been a glitch but now I'm just cranky and have decided I was definitely "hung up on") the first time I called, I was able to get through to the same manager from earlier. Instead of letting me explain my frustration, she interrupted me and argued with me, explaining that they, "aren't given enough payroll to put more than three people on staff". She needs to take that up with her Regional Manager and analyze their business better, not my problem. Realizing that I wasn't going to be heard (all I wanted!) I informed her that I would not return to her store. She did offer me a coupon for whatever I wanted to get, but that's not why I was calling. I just wanted her to know about my experience and not to have her argue with me or get defensive. Anyway, long story short, I got the exact food I needed off of wag.com for 25% off, and the other items off of Amazon and saved $25.00 there, too. I honestly WOULDN'T even give them one star if I had the choice. This Petco is by far the WORST Petco I have ever been too. I have a hamster who was fine and healthy and then I went into this Petco and purchased a seperate hamster from them. While these two hamsters never shared a cage, they did however, play with eachother when we would take them out of the cage at the same time. Within four days, the hamster we purchased died from wet tail leaving my other hamster sick. We returned the hamster we bought and because we didn't have our original receipt and only the pet purchase card(a receipt was NEVER given to us other than that piece of paper) we were told we could only receive store credit. We decided to get another one and just keep these two completely separated. Now again, they only gave us a pet purchase card but it was so hectic to even explain this that I forgot to ask for the long paper receipt (stupid me). Not even a month later, my original hamster now has a HUGE lump on the side of her and her poop is backed up. To me it sounds like a severe case of Wet Tail and I'm so furious because she was fine and healthy before we purchased hamsters from this Petco. My second hamster that was purchased has also already died. Petco is now refusing to give me a refund or help me or with my original hamster because he has "never heard of this happening" and claims no one ever returns hamsters. Which I find extremely funny because I seen a review posted 7 months ago with a similar experience to mine. When asked for more information on hamsters as well while I was at the store, they failed to provide it for me and had the response of "I hate hamsters". NEVER returning here again. My poor Lilly (original hamster who i e had a little over a year ) is dying due to whatever was wrong with their hamsters. read more

I wish I could give this 0 stars. The grooming service and how my mom and I was treated was horrible. I had scheduled an appointment with Tanya at 4:00 but then rescheduled it to 3:15. We haven't been there in a year, in so we have been cutting out dogs hair ourselves. We came back after dropping him off and having lunch at McDonald's and saw a dog similar to ours and went in and they said it wasn't ours but she cut it just like that. When she brought my dog out there were literal bald spots all over him and the coat was all uneven and he was shaking, and even when he went home, he stayed away from us a lot. We have a feeling she also abused our dog or something. She was extremely rude to us and had the nerve to say we don't care about our dog. Excuse me what? She handed us the dog, unfinished in the rudest way possible and yelled: "I'm not dealing with this" and was extremely pissed and ran off to the back. She said that his neck was matted and stuff and basically thought our entire dog was mated which was not true, it was only his stomach and back of his ears. This will be our last time ever going here. read more
