Our dog was dealing with a pretty heavy limp the last couple days and we wanted to schedule an emergency vet appointment at their Vetco. The room was clean and they saw us quickly - waiting only 10 minutes tops. The tech was awesome and the vet was solid as well. Didn't catch either of their names, but both ladies were patient, kind, and informative. We left with an anti-inflammatory as well as a recommendation to monitor the limp and come in for an x-ray if the issue didn't gradually get better. The Petco store itself was a pretty good size in a nice area of other businesses. They had a variety of animals for adoption as well as aisles and aisles of food, treats, training equipment, comfort, etc. The store was clean, their bathrooms were well taken care of, and the staff at the front table was polite. The woman working at the register had the worst attitude. I let the manager know how unprofessional and awful her employees attitude was. When I called a nearby petco, they seemed to recognize exactly who I was speaking about when describing the issue & suggested I call and place a complaint with corporate; seemingly this isn't the first time. Issues with website regarding inventory. Website said there was "1 left", came to store to see item in person first instead of buying online. Walked around, couldn't find it. I asked for help, was shown something different and told "just like the one online". Not even close, price difference was $49 more. We had some difficulties. We have two puppies, the first puppy we brought in is going home with the Sire's family. After calling and confirming that puppy shots could be done at 6 weeks an appointment was made. Upon going in the staff began questioning about the crate, if the puppy was in it all the time, challenging ownership of the puppy etc. The staff was rude and customer service wasn't the order of the day. The second puppies appoint was the next day, but they called to say they couldn't do the shots at 6 weeks. I had to discuss the issues, we one was able to get her shots and the other wasn't. Why she couldn't get her shots. We were told they don't recommend shots at that age. I however live in a rental and wanted their first round of shots before beginning house breaking them and having them out side. Parvo is a huge concern in Arizona it can last a long time in the ground and coyotes are seen in the neighborhood regularly and caught in people's yards. It's absolutely a safety issue. After talking to other Vets and researching information we discovered that 6 weeks is a perfectly fine age for initial shots. We were permitted to get shots done on both puppies in the end but I was very disappointed in the push back and lack of customer service. read more

I went to the Petco in Scottsdale since I was in the area for my daughter's guitar lesson, I went in to buy a furminator, service was bad there too, the employees look like you are an inconvenience to them but I'll review them next. I bought the wrong size so I wanted to exchange it and came into this Petco since it's closer to me. I was hopeful for a better experience, unfortunately that was not the case. I waited in line, the cashier helped a customer check out and avoided eye contact with me. I thought maybe she needs to do something else more important but she just started talking to the cashier next to her. The cashier next to her is done and no acknowledgement or a smile nothing. I waited until they finally decided to help me. I get to the check-out and the cashier was not nice at all, she didn't even greet me. I told her I wanted to exchange my item. In a very bothered voice she told me what isle to go get it. I didn't like her tone, I told her just refund me. I went to Petsmart, which is what I should've done in the first place since that's my go to place where people look like they are actually happy you're shopping with them. They would not groom my dog because she *used to* have a heart murmur. I called off work to take her for her 12pm appointment. I was on time but the groomer was not. Then when the groomer finally showed up, she refused to groom my dog because of her *condition*. My dog used to have a heart murmur; according to her doctor, it is now nearly non existent. I have had both of my dogs groomed at this petco. They bathed and groomed my dogs. They are large dogs and are golden retrievers. I have nothing but positive feedback on the grooming experience here! Pros: - Easy to schedule: It was very easy to schedule online, and their availability was clearly indicated. There tends to be a good amount of availability during the week days for more short term appointment needs. - Timely: The appointments start on time, no waiting needed! Very professional service here. - Kind to pups who are anxious: I really appreciated how kind the folks at this location were to my pups-- they were very soothing and sweet, and seemed to genuinely care. - Do not overcut: They do not over-cut the dogs, which is something I have encountered with other dog groomers, who cut too much of the fur off of my Goldens. - Detangle and manage nails well: They detangled all of the knots on my pups, and removed a couple of matts that they had gathered after some swimming outings. Cons: Truly nothing negative to remark on here! A really great experience overall. I would recommend this Petco for grooming services. Pro tip is that across the street, there is also a Barnes and Nobles with a Starbucks cafe that offers free wifi. I wish the groomers are more friendly to pets and really try for the pets to feel they are safe with them. Like they actually care. I have never been to Petco for grooming but since they are the only one that has an available time I scheduled an appointment for my dog and selected the 50+ lb category as he is 53lbs. And the lady once saw my dog said that he wasn't expecting that big of a dog? Do they really know how to estimate lbs in terms of dog size? She said that she doesn't think there's enough kennel for his size. (By the way they accepted 2 walk-ins before me! that's why I had to wait for a good 15 mins to be checked in.) and the groomer said okay, let's get a feel and get to know each other first. Immediately went to his butt and leg, my dog barked once. "Groomer: oh you don't want me to touch you?" Other groomers if they see the dog for the first time they will let the dog sniff their hands pet them. But whatever. She did try to touch his butt and back leg again and my dog barked again and she said that they can't take him because he is being aggressive to her. I was stunned/shocked on what she said and just walked away and as soon as I'm outside I told myself that what a B*tch she is. Sorry but you tell me a reasoning like that is just amazingly rude and wrong. So apparently a barking dog means the dog is aggressive for them. WOW. My dog has been to other groomers and they never had a problem. He is a labradoodle mix for Christ's sake. So learned my lesson never ever bring pets to Petco. read more

I would leave no stars if I could. We're no strangers to the reptile world and have over 20 snakes and other reptiles. Imagine our utmost horror when we walked in to see a juvenile ball python with stuck shed. He looked horrific. Stuck shed, skinny and overall extremely dehydrated. This snake was in severe distress. We witnessed this snake defecate, and he started bleeding from his cloaca (anus) Unfortunately once it gets to this point of neglect the chances of them pulling through is very low. My 3 year old who also is familiar with snakes, pointed out that, that snake was sick. Why this sick, malnourished, and neglected snake was on display is anyone's guess. I am done! 3 times I have had my Labrador groomed there. He had a bath and the deshedding treatment. 2 out of three times it was the worst. I show the person checking me out all the hair falling to the floor. He obviously wasn't brushed out properly. I paid extra for shampoo and for him to be furmerated to remove excess hair. Besides the hair literally covering the ground and brushing out 4 brushes full of hair when I got home - I paid 110 dollars that included a good tip. The person bringing him out just said "well he has a lot of hair". No Joking! That's why I wanted the deshedding treatment! And paid a pretty penny for it. Buyer beware. Made an appointment with Vetco for my dog max for a wellness exam but a few days after he started to get red and swollen on his behind I had scheduled the appointment for 11am but showed up around 10:15 when I arrived I spoke to ally and explained the situation and she switched us from a wellness to a sick exam and got us into a room ASAP. Jenna was our tech and she was amazing with max he does have anxiety and jumping behaviors but she handled him with such care and grace he couldn't have been in better hands same with his vet Max did have something going on with his glands so we got prescribed meds and got his anal glands cleaned for about 150$ after meds and treatment which is amazing due to us having a short budget wanting to get our baby seen they worked with our budget while also giving high quality care we did schedule a follow up with ally at the front and will only be coming here for Max's care. Huge thank you to ally for telling us about the vital pet care plan which will save us loads of money on food pet care etc if you want ur dog treated like royalty but not have to spend an arm and a leg or treated less than then this place is perfect! read more

All "regular " vets near us were booked for a month. So in one day we got into see Dr. Duke. He was very thorough and easy to understand. His support staff is very friendly and helpful. "We close at 8:00!" She snipped at me as she tapped her phone and shook it at me for emphasis. Perhaps they should update their hours with Yelp? I cannot be the only person to note this conflict. Yes, I suggested an edit, yes I sent a photo. This store is a mess in so many ways. I have no idea how they stay in business. Stock is often ridiculously low on key items, but then they'll have 50 of something else in stock. Pricing is all over the place; sometimes I compare to Amazon and they might beat them, or literally be 50% more. The two online orders I did for in-store pickup were just confusing. I couldn't really figure out who to ask for my stuff, and the cashiers were kind of confused about it themselves (or at least, didn't give me a straight answer). Took my dog in for a nail trimming and routine shots, paid around 150$ for everything which is fine, her nails were really long so I figured it was time to get them cut, when she got home her nails were exactly the same as she went In, so I called them back and explained the situation, I told them they didn't cut her nails and she kept telling me they did, which wasn't the case because they were exactly the same. If you need prescription food, they will make you walk over to THEIR vet clinic, even though you have a valid script from your vet in hand, and get the Vetco team to approve it and give you their own Rx card for the food. It became a hassle and time consuming when my cat was very ill and needed the special food. Cashier was not helpful at all and didn't give me any explanation as to WHY they couldn't accept my written and signed script from my vet to purchase the food, just pointed to the clinic and left the register so I could figure it out myself. read more

*this review isn't for petco in particular but who they allow to bring animals for adoption services* MCACC We adopted a dog on august 26th that unfortunately had kennel cough. (Which was explained to us that "just sniffles"). The dog also didn't come with the rest of her antibiotics for dermatitis that she was supposed to receive for 5 more days. Due to the kennel cough and them encouraging us to immediately introduce her to our other dog at home, he (my other dog) also got kennel cough. Unfortunately his kennel cough escalated to a secondary bacterial infection and he had to be emergency hospitalized for nearly 48 hours. This cost me just over $4000. When I called to ask who medically cleared her to be adopted in the first place Debbie, the shelter supervisor at the Phoenix location told me "sniffles aren't a reason to necessarily not allow a dog to be adopted" she also let me know that I should just "know better"when adopting a "street dog" that all MCACC can really do is get them in just to get them adopted back out again". Gaslighting aside, she didn't offer much else when it came to other resources but did let me know I could write a formal complaint. Just beware when adopting any animals from here. read more

My receipt stated "helped by Dar" and Dar is the reason I will be looking for a new place to take my dog. The entire place reeked of raw sewage and animal piss. Absolutely horrible, one of the worst pet stores I've ever been in.

This place has always been my go to because they carry science diet food that I always buy for my pet. The workers in the reptile area have always been so nice and helpful on what to buy. Today I was shopping next door at sketchers. Sketchers bathroom was out of order so I went to next door to Petco. I asked a lady restocking by the ferrets where there restroom was. She turned around blankly and said "we don't have a public restroom it's only for employees" i explained that the restroom at sketchers was out of order and I really had to go. She said she couldn't let me and that it's not open to the public because they felt like they were cleaning it too much when shoppers were using it so now it's exclusive to employees. The rudeness of this lady was uncalled for and the "reason" the bathroom is closed to the public is pathetic. What happens if someone's toddler is having an emergency or if an older person can't hold it? I'll be taking my money to tractor supply co for dog food now since they carry it and care about customers. Not to mention the online ordering process with this specific location is a JOKE. read more

Amazing customer service. We actually called from inside of another pet store to see if they had another type of pet, which they did. Alex was like the bomb customer service rep and answered so many of our questions, so we headed right over. We got there and then Rose swooped right in to help us. We ended up buying 2 hamsters and were so educated between Alex and Rose. Even Deb at the cash register was so pleasant and helpful. Best experience ever !!!!
