This store has absolutely no customer service we waited by the poorly maintained fish tanks for 10 minutes well two employees sat and talked about their personal lives meanwhile my son slipped on the puddle water on the ground in front of the tanks where there was no caution sign and it was also ignored by the lackluster employees. In the end we left empty handed I will take my business elsewhere. read more

I want to start off with the good news. I brought my golden doodle to Petco for the first to get a haircut/bath/groomed and they have done the best job anyone has ever done. The groomers were nice and very caring and filled out the comment card on what to watch and wrote sweet things about my dog. However, they took 5 HOURS to groom my dog. I've been to places in which they have groomed my dog in 2-3 hours. I wouldn't normally complain, but I live one hour away from the petco in which i have stated when i dropped off my dog. So I said I will be waiting around in the area. As many things there are on 10th street......I ran out of things to do and was at the mercy of the groomers just to get things done. I will go back to them, but they need to speed up their process or I might look for other places. read more

Went here to sign up for dog training classes and to purchase some fish as well. Spoke to Hella, and she was super awesome in helping me decide what was best for my pit. Also, the gentleman in aquatics (Brian?) was incredibly helpful. I could tell he was a little new, but his attitude and knowledge outshined that fact. Hella and the aquatics specialist are the reason I will return to this Petco! read more

I always enjoy a trip to good old Petco, there is nothing like being able to take your best friend on a shopping trip. Employees are always so helpful, everything is so cleaned and organized. I've never tried their grooming department but I'm pretty sure its just as great. read more

I have to air this as it made me sick to my stomach and I cannot stop thinking about it. One of the girls I work with and I went to Petco, in Palmdale, CA yesterday, to get my precious little Thelma some fancy food hehhe. Long story short, we were stuck in line behind a couple doing a return. I could not help but to look over at the dog grooming area and saw a young guy grooming a little terrier. He was literally pulling hair out of this dogs head and then stuck a cotton ball, in what appeared to be a alcohol bottle; You know one of those ones the doctor uses that you press the cotton ball down on and it dispenses. He then placed it on the dogs head and it jumped. If that was not bad enough he was holding the dogs ear and literally ripping hair out of its inner ears. This dog was in pain and kept jumping, but it did not stop this kid. Not done yet people!!! He then took another cotton ball and once again pushed down on the bottle and then put it on the raw ears where he just ripped out the hair. The dog let out a yelp and jumped. He then began taking the same cotton ball and literally DIGGING into this dogs ears like his life depended on it. This dog was in so much pain at this point it bit at him. He goes right back at it and then dog bite at him again. Well, you would think he got the message by now, but no, he begins digging in the dogs other ear and once again the dog bite at him and this time the guy flicked at the dog. Then he grabs a leash and does not even get it around the dogs throat, instead its over its eye and half way around the throat and he pulls the dog off the table and sticks it in a cage. I was so upset and very loud about it. This dog was being hurt and mistreated in a window, right in view of all of us in line. I talked to the cashier and she said she knows how he does and was told he is in training so he is learning. I was furious!!!! I later called for the manager and was handed over to someone named Anthony, a shift manager, who was so rude and could care less. When I asked for a district number I was refused the request. I am plastering this on YELP, Facebook and any other outlet I can find. I am also calling animal control today and turning them in. No animal should every be treated this way. I spoke with my sister in law, who is a professional groomer and she said there are dogs who need hair removed from their ears, but there is a powder that is used to loosen it and gently remove it. I AM FURIOUS AND I NEED ALL OF YOU TO SHARE THIS ON YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE. WE CANNOT ALLOW THIS TO CONTINUE. Since this has happened and Petco has been made aware of it a week ago they have done nothing it appears. Numerous messages have been sent to them and they just keep on saying oh we are looking into it and will get right back with you, but the person who witnessed this still has not even been contacted. and the dog that suffered at this persons hands well they better get a full refund, and Petco needs to pay for the vet bills if the dog indeed needed medical care after this. read more

I like Petco because they carry a large selection of quality dog food that is difficult to find anywhere else, even other big name pet supply stores. However, this review is about the grooming department specifically. And I'm writing this review in particular about Mary. I have FINALLY found someone in this desert that I trust with my 85 lb lab/shepherd mix and my 70 lb pound puppy furball. I bring my babies to Mary at the beginning of every summer and she returns them to me looking spectacular! I hate shaving the dogs, but in these miserable AV summers - I know it helps keep them more comfortable. The lab/shepherd mix looks great, smells great, and the razor lines are all extremely well blended. The big black fur ball doesn't get shaved, but goes through a heck of a lot of brushing to help thin down the coat and clean him up. Mary trims his hind legs, his tail, his feet, and all the undercarriage shag that loves to pick up mud when the pup is outside playing. I love how the dogs feel when they are returned to me. I will admit that I struggle with the high price, which is why this review isn't five stars... but since we only splurge once a year, I'll deal with it. If you're looking for a groomer - call and book with Mary. Once upon a time she used to groom my husband's grandmother's schnauzers and if The Baroness was happy, then you know Mary must be good! read more

Very disappointing experience. I took my German Shepard for a full bath PLUS de-shedding treatment. I paid $85 and it was a total waste of money. I don't mind paying that for good service and a job well done. My dog came back home as if nothing had been done. When I picked her up she still had all the hair just sort of laying on the surface of her fur. Her breath smelled the same. There was no difference from when I took her in. Never taking my dog there again. read more

Came in the other day and I think they just received there shipment on fish because they had tons. They had a wide variety to choose from which I loved that was at a reasonable cost. I think I prefer this store over petsmart now because most of there fish had ick although some fish here had ick, but overall it was a great visit buying a gold and blue ram. read more

Took my husky here 2x. The second time they told me they had to charge a handling fee. I said ok. Then the groomer went on to say he was being stubborn and not listening, not even when her boyfriend yelled at him loudly. I got a bad feeling they mishandled my dog and he became uncooperative. He wanted out of there so bad. I never took him back. Have been taking my dogs elsewhere for years. I rarely go in this store, they have lousy customer service. read more

I have been going here for years and had never had issues, until today. So I saw a betta that I thought was pretty, and I took my phone out to take a photo of the fish. As I was taking a photo, an employee walks out and screams at me "EXCUSE ME. You're not allowed to take photos of the animals!" Since when? I've literally taken photos of their bettas with the head aquarist right next to me. Really disappointed, especially since I have seen this lady many times in previous visits and never had issues with her. I have done it many times and never had issues. I walked out right after, and don't plan to go back. Petsmart across the street is 10 times better, and they don't have fish with ich or dead/dying bettas on display. read more

WORST GROOMERS EVER!! Steer clear of this place unless you want a chopped up mess of a dog grooming. Took my two shih tzu/poodles to Petco to get groomed. (Only went to petco because Petsmart was booked and I needed to get them groomed before going out of town) They had them there for five hours. (They had said it would be 3-5 hours). I finally called to see if they were ready and they said they had to "check", and then put me on hold. This happened twice. The call was somehow disconnected while I was on hold the 2nd time so I called right back and they said the same thing, they needed to "check", and they were going to put me on hold again. I said that I was already on hold twice I just want to know if my dogs were ready. She said "the manager needs to talk to you". They put me on hold again. Then Joe the mgr answered and started explaining that one of my two pups was being "difficult". In his words "flailing about and trying to hurt himself and the groomer". There is no way that this is true. Both of my pups have been groomed many many times before at Petsmart and ALWAYS get great comments and excellent report cards after. They always get complimented saying what "good boys" they are. Not one groomer at Petsmart has ever said anything negative or uncomplimentary about either of them. Never once did they ever say that they were difficult, hard to groom, trying to hurt anyone. Nothing like that, ever. They are two sweet little guys. 11 lbs each. This leads me to believe that they did something at petco to upset and/or hurt them. And after reading reviews here (should have done that first, I know) I now believe that they mistreated my dogs. Amanda is one of the groomers that worked on my pups. I see here, on these reviews, that I'm not the only one that has had a bad experience with Amanda. So, Joe the mgr said they wouldn't finish the grooming. I have no idea if/when they were going to call me to let me know any of this. It had already been 5 hours and I still hadn't heard anything from them. I went to pick them both up and they looked terrible. The part that actually did get "groomed" was choppy, cut down to the skin in some spots. Bald spots. Long in other spots. Just a big, ugly mess. NEVER, EVER AGAIN. Beware of Amanda the terrible "groomer". I believe 'Sasha' (?) was the other one that worked on one of my pups. Both of them were horrible. Neither of these people should be allowed to touch pups let alone groom them. I don't understand why Petco would hire such incompetent people to do this job. They should not allow people that obviously don't know what they are doing to be grooming other people's pets. I could've done a better job and I have NO experience. This was a very upsetting experience and I feel terrible for trusting petco and handing my babies over to them. HUGE mistake that will NEVER happen again. read more
