Petco still amazes me. I've been going here for a long time for various pet needs, not this particular Petco but just Petco in general. I currently have a betta fish and so it's fun to look at the aquarium stuff. I came here on a Saturday morning actually trying to kill time, waiting for Daiso to open. The amount of pet items that they have in the store is unbelievable, from fish items dog items cat items it's a large Warehouse full of stuff to spend your money on for your pet. Not to mention there's a grooming section within the store as well. To my surprise and Delight while I was killing time, Saturday morning there's a puppy obedience training class in side the store!!! It was so cool to watch the puppies being trained and they're all so cute and Goofy with parents who are very impatient LOL great way to waste time on a Saturday morning! read more

The young leopard geckos at this location are kept in a habitat with fine grain sand. I've pointed out on 5 different occasions now (very politely knowing they have no control over the situation) to multiple different cashiers that keeping them in fine grain sand is extremely detrimental to their health especially when young since they will likely ingest it and will keep them from eating properly and they can develop metabolic bone disease and other ailments. Every time I was assured management would be made aware but after a few weeks with no change I also made a complaint through corporate. A week later (tonight) I went in again to check on them (I don't normally shop here only when kahoots is closed since they take good care of their animals and recently only to check on this issue) I was scolded by a staff member for taking pictures as proof of this issue. This is clearly a very unhealthy animal and unfortunately buying them and surrendering them to a better facility would only encourage them to buy more that will be cared for in the same way. Just going to share this everywhere I can until your store cares enough to give the minimum effort and change the substrate to something not actively killing the animals you're trying to profit off of. read more

DO NOT BUY FROM THERE. I got a Happy Birthday bone from petco, and my dog had super bad diarrhea and threw up nonstop. I called petco, no refund, and my dog has been sick for a day. The grooming attendant Leanna was strange . My 2 dogs are 12 years old and I have groomed them regularly. She asked for a full evaluation ( really ?) to see if they would be a " good fit " . I asked her why and she replied " it's like humans .. sometimes we can be in a good or in a bad mood " . Ok .. I complied . Then she starts examining one of the dogs .. and he starts shaking a little because he knew he was getting a bath .. and she keeps making comments like " I do not like that shaking .. I do not like that whining " it went on and on . Finally I told her I was going to go and take my dogs and left .The whole thing was ridiculous . I am going back to Dipitty Dog .. they were very busy that's why I chose Petco , also I was happy wirh them in the past .. no more . read more

This review is for my pup's excellent experiences with the grooming salon at this Petco. I can't say enough great things about the staff in the salon. Amanda, and another young lady whose name I don't recall, just adore my very active and potentially disruptive Ava. Ava loves them too and has absolutely no worries about coming here. Amanda and her co-worker always greet Ava and make her feel at home, endure the face-licks, and are able to calm her puppy energy down to a manageable level where she lies down on the floor and then voluntarily jumps into one of the cages in the back. Ava, who can get very dirty and sometimes stinky from her dog park wrestling adventures, always comes back nice-smelling, shiny, happy... and ready on-time. And only $30 to have her washed, ears cleaned, nails trimmed, and some occasional anal gland action -- that's an excellent deal. I typically don't buy much else at Petcos: I get Ava's food, dog beds, etc. from Costco, and toys and treats from Amazon, where they're priced much better than at Petco. Petco also bombards me with incessant emails and junk mail from their loyalty program -- do I really need 2 emails reminding me every day that This Particular Sale Ends At Midnight?. Now you know. And now, kindly don't fill up their whole appointment calendar. I'd like to get Ava in there again next month too... read more

To start, the veterinary staff is amazing and i love brining my cats to them. They are super friendly and caring towards pets and make an effort to remember pets and their owners. Never a bad experience with the Veterinary side of Petco and if i could i would give them 5 stars. As for the retail side, i am astonished at the lack of customer service every time. I frequently come to this petco because unfortunately it's the only one close to me and today specifically pushed me, finally, to leave a review. As i was waiting in line to be helped, an older woman was at the register helping a customer and another worker was having a conversation with the woman in front of me. The worker finished her conversation and left without helping the woman in front of me. A line began to form behind me and finally after a while someone called for help at the registers. The workers seemed distracted and continued to talk about the padres game, while i stood there waiting to be helped. When i finally was helped the worker seemed to be in a rush and quickly scanned my items and told me my total without applying any of my rewards. Now i understand him not knowing i wanted to use my rewards but i pay for the Vital Care Premier membership which gives me 10% off on nutrition for my cats and i had $5 rewards that i loaded for this perchase, the worker did not even offer if id like to use any of them. I always leave dissatisfied whenever i come to this Petco and as someone who works in customer service and listens to the criticism that is given, i hope the workers fix their attitude and attempt to pay attention to their customers. read more

Brought my dog Nala to get groomed for the first time. Jordan was super helpful and reassured me Nala would be ok. She did a great job with Nala and I will definitely be back!! Right before heading out I decided to purchase a collar and the cashier that assisted me was so rude. He was sitting down on the counter (unprofessional), not one word was said to me during the transaction but "what's your number" and that was it. Don't work in customer service if you don't like interacting with people. Wish I would have gotten his name. I will be back just for Jordan, she was awesome!! read more

I get my Wellness CORE Grain Free OverPriced Cat food here. In a XL bag. It's expensive, but better than most of the other brands out there, and i am not going to cook chicken or duck for my cats, and grind up for them to eat. I mean, I am a crazy cat lady and all, but even I have to set a limit. I also get litter for my Litter Robot here, it's like $10 for a Refill size, and they let me use my existing container, and just wrote the SKU # on it for me so I was not forced to buy a Petco branded plastic container since I had one in the right size already. They have a good selection, and better prices, service, and policies than Kahoots. read more

098 / 100 - 2017 YELP 100 CHALLENGE. I love browsing through this Petco when I'm finished up with other appointments in the area! They've also got great deals going on, usually right at the very front. I've picked up a lot of toys for my dogs from here and they've loved each and every one of them lol. Employees are always super friendly and helpful when I visit. Incredibly professional and great at their jobs! I haven't meandered through the whole store (usually just stick to the dog toys, collars, etc. at the front), but it seems clean and organized. Parking is great as it shares the lot with Daiso, Red Lobster, Outback, and so forth. Lots of space and ample room to park. The only downside at this Petco are the actual people who shop here. Most of the people who bring in their dogs do great. Non-reactive dogs, very sweet, no aggression whatsoever. But then you get the people who have bad mannered dogs and DGAF about reigning that behavior in. I've seen big dogs, small dogs, everything in between yammer and bark their heads off because they're upset that they're stuck on a leash and surrounded by strangers and stranger's dogs. Not a huge deal if it's a few barks here and there, but some of the ones I've seen go on FOREVER. As in, I do my browsing for 20min and they are still barking when I leave. I mean... I get it. My dogs can get nervous on leash and bark, but I don't force people to sit through it. I either correct them and have them stop or we get up and leave. (Or I just don't bring them at all and leave them at home.) Like kids, dogs can have their bad days, but some people really just do not care. It's actually kind of ridiculous. So be prepared when you go in! The volume in here can be loud, but the cute/cool/great stuff they've got (in addition to all the awesome sales) makes it worthwhile. read more

On 02/19/23, my husband, daughter, and I visited the store that is located at 2130 Vista Way Suite A. My daughter was lightly touching the fish tanks when the manager, Jaime, came and yelled to keep my daughter close to me because someone told them that she was hitting the fish tanks. She was very rude to us and not nice at all. My daughter tends to move her hands a lot due to her disability, something beyond her control. We have always come to this Petco and there were never any issues until that day. The manager, Jaime, should be more polite, regardless of how clients look because in this case it looked like it was due to discrimination. read more

They are very against Instacart, and employees are actually instructed to not help Instacart shoppers. I asked for an item that was not in stock, and was told, "I will help you on this but nothing else!". When I asked why, the employee said she'd get in big trouble for not helping. Very rude & I also asked other associates and found out that they ate in fact told not to help Instacart shoppers, because they ask for too much help. Plus, the item I was looking for had not been carried for 6 months. It was just an unbelievably horrible experience and they don't get that we are shopping for their customers. Please do not order Petco for delivery and Instacart shoppers, please do not accept. You will regret it. Awful store. read more

Winter was amazing tonight. I was very stressed out from my cats having fleas again and their current treatment not working to prevent. I brought my puppy here for his first grooming. I mentioned it was his first time so logically, he's going to be a little hesitant and nervous. He didn't require any significant work, I just needed help with his nails and de-sensitizing him to the brush. The communication was awful. We didn't receive a time for when he would be done upon intake, even though we asked. When we came back an hour later to check in a few things happened: 1) dogs who weren't there when we dropped him off were done while he was not (we had the first appt of the day) and 2) the girl wouldn't even let us in to ask about him. We waited in the store for another 30 minutes and went to ask for an updated timeline to see if we should stay or go home. Zoe rolled her eyes and visibly made comments about us to another staff member for coming back. A lot of people view dogs like children and just want to know they're taken care of, especially when they're puppies. Communication is key in any customer service experience and theirs was awful. Zoe was rude, unhelpful and ensured we will never bring our dog back to a Petco. I encourage you to find somewhere that will care about your experience. read more

Just called the store and spoke with Aubrey who was kind, knowledgeable and helpful! She made my evening! Great customer service person!!

I would've given them 3 stars for the most subpar ventriloquist act ever- but even then, a stop into the Grooming Department isn't even worth 2. 3 people in Grooming: 1 girl standing at the computer, 1 girl sitting, watching the girl stand at the computer and 1 guy doing the actual grooming. The fact the guy didn't say anything at all- is why this Petco gets 1 star. If it weren't for him, I'd say Petco owed me a star (-a star for the time wasted watching a subpar ventriloquist act between the girls). The girl at the computer couldn't answer any questions without asking the girl sitting down behind her- in a way, almost like she was asking permission (??). After getting her answer, she'd repeat it to me w/the same words and in the same tone. "Do you have any openings available for today? Do you have anything available for later on? When is your next available opening?" -these are questions that should be answered by the one standing at the computer...she shouldn't be seeking permission from the sitting duck, behind her. --if she were in training (which is what I thought, at first), then the 'Sitting Duck' should've been a 'Standing Duck'...for customer service purposes, anyway.) The girl at the computer may've been new, that's understandable. But that doesn't excuse the lack of customer service. There were 3 people in there & not one of them greeted us. I shouldn't have had to ask all 3 of those questions- 1 response could've handled them all. Getting a pet groomed isn't cheap- at least be pleasant to your customers. (To Oceanside, Petco- Grooming Department- try practicing this: "I'm sorry Sir/Ma'am. We're booked, solid, today. Our next available opening is on/at: (enter date). Can I reserve that spot for you?" -this way, you've delivered the bad news- but then also came up with a solution. Never (ever) tell them to 'call during the week.') ----- Tip for dogs w/hot spots: Bathe them with Head & Shoulders, Itchy Scalp Shampoo & Conditioner (2-in-1). Wash them all over but concentrate on the hot spots. It's gentle enough for their skin & their coat will be soft & smell good...hate the smell of pet shampoo! read more

The ladies in the Grooming Salon are amazing! They always take such good care of our little portie puppy, Grant! Jordan does so well with him, she is very sweet and caring which puts Grant at ease. This review is regarding that one area where the cats up for adoption are kept. We walked over after dinner because I know that Petco has this cool program where rescue societies can showcase their animals for adoption. I was excited to see the kittens because we had gone to another Petco about 2 weeks before and had played with some kittens for about15 minutes I was so excited to see the kittens and cats through the window! I knocked, as there was a staff person inside and I weren't sure if they were cleaning or getting ready to close or whatever. We walked in and I got sick to my stomach. As someone who has rescued animals in the past, I'm used to strong smells, but this was over the top. I hope that it was just a one time event regarding this smell, but it was so strong it seems it had to have built up to that. The funny thing is that as we were walking out the door, one of the people inside came out and said..."Are you looking to adopt a cat?" I wanted to say, "not if my house is going to smell like that!" I didn't, but maybe i should have. Really, the smell was so bad I don't know how they stayed in there talking. The really need to do something about this. Either the staff or the rescue groups or someone with some kind of authority over that area needs to get in there an clean that room. It's disgusting and I can't imagine that anyone who wanted to adopt would be able to stay in there long enough to be able to make a connection with an animal. read more

All i can say is that this petco is racist. They completely ignore me when i ask questions. They didn;t acknowlege me when i walked into the store, even when i asked the high school looking store associate "how are you doing?". i had to wait at the check out for over 5 minutes to purchase my dog treats and bed. The worst part about that is that there were at least 4 store associates that walked right past the cashier and didn't even acknowledge the fact that i was waiting and ready to check out. They only came when and elder white woman lined up behind me. When they finally came, they didnt even apologize or look me in the eye. They simply took the item and scanned it. After i paid, the high school looking associate didnt even bother to put the dog treats and my dog bed into a bag. He just started to look at his nails. At that point, i was pissed. I just flat out told him, "PUT MY STUFF INTO THE BAG!" I felt like being friendly is NOT part of the store policy, so i had to show some aggression to get SOME type of service. I've been to other Petco's before, but this one was by far the my worst experience. If corporate reads this post, i highly recommend them to change management at that store. read more

This Petco is normally very clean, with kind, courteous and helpful staff. The prices and deals are average for Petco products. We had scheduled a grooming appointment a couple weeks ago, and the day before, they canceled it. We figured it was probably a staffing issue or something and didn't think much of it, and scheduled another appointment for over a week out. It was for 5:15pm. We then waited all week, and showed up to the appointment only to find the grooming department closed. The manager came out and said "Oh, I canceled your appointment, we don't even have a groomer here after 2pm". She seemed surprised we even showed up since she'd canceled it. It was only during trying to schedule a third appointment with her that we saw she HAD canceled our appointment, but not even 20 minutes before the appointment time... we ended up leaving because I didn't appreciate that she had all week to cancel the appointment, or call and move it, because she "knew that she doesnt have a groomer there after 2pm" but rather, she decided to cancel it while we were on the way over, and then play dumb like we shouldn't have showed up to our own appointment. Would have just appreciated a quick apology for wasting my time, not pretending like she canceled it days ago and we just didnt look... PetSmart's only a few minutes further‍ read more

This location is OK, nothing spectacular the store is pretty clean and I had to go here to get some fish stuff for the fish we won at the fair.
