This particular location is older and a bit rundown, but they have all the things you could need. The real review is their very friendly staff, we've found a few stray dogs and their team has been so helpful and checking their chips and attempting to reach out to any owners. it's made some unideal situations really turn around. if I could give this business zero stars, I would completely unprofessional. I went into the store on Monday on Dobson and they told me on the phone that I should come in and when I got there, the vet had left early. So they told me to go the next day to the store on university and I called to make sure that they were open and accepting animals and they told me both places that I did not need an appointment. When I got to the location on university, there was a girl there with black hair and two ponytails who refused to give me her name she had two star clips in her hair with glasses on. She explained to me that I did not have an appointment and that they were closed from 2 to 3 PM and that when I they got back from their lunch break, they would take me after their 3 PM appointments there was only one 3 PM appointment then she proceeded to tell me that she would take me after all appointments that walked in even the ones that were 20 minutes early, but that is not what she said before and she told me that I was being rude to her. I explained to her that I could not take my animals home and so I waited there for an hour for them to come back for their lunch because my cats once taken out of their bag will not go back inside of their bag. Very inconsiderate poor customer service route. I will never return there to that store ever again in my life and whoever put this veterinarian or veterinarian assistant in this location should remove her because she's rude. She's inconsiderate and she doesn't think about the animal. She intentionally made me wait and went away from her podium so that she could wait for another appointment because she did not want to service me even though I waited there for an hour and she told me that the reason why is because I should've made an appointment when I was told by both locations that they were very free at the time that I was coming in and then I did not need an appointment. Worst vet visit I have ever had. The set up is just a table in the store, I have two cats that are very skittish and don't like new places. when trying to get them on the table and the lady looked at me like I am crazy when I say that I am worried about having my indoor cat in a space that he could run off or freak out when being held down the whole time. Then instead of letting me get him off the table where he feels safe, she grabbed him off the table and was upset that he scratched her. It was nothing but judgment the entire visit. Today I go in to get help with buying two new fish because unfortunately my tank got ick and all of my fish died. I saw one of the girls was on the register and she acknowledged me and said that she would send somebody over so I then proceeded to wait for 15 minutes And then another customer grabbed the attention of another girl that was working and she was helped and got rung up and I still waited the entire time for somebody to come give me some customer service and instead after they were done, ringing her up, one of the girls was standing there by the last register while the other one sat down on a cart so I walked out and left, and I've spent a lot of money trying to put my tank together And I will not be a returning customer. How is this store still open is what I ask myself after every visit. It's so dirty and outdated. They also don't offer a restroom for customers. The wait is often atrocious and getting help in the aquatics dept nearly impossible. There is one worker here who is good (the red headed guy; sorry I can't remember his name.) He single handedly seems to do everything while every other employee stays off in a corner talking to each other. Seriously, this guy needs to be put in charge as he's the only one with any work ethic and customer service skills. If I ask anyone else a question I get brushed off. No one cares enough to find out the answer to when an animal will be available to purchase. If this store weren't only minutes from my home I would not come here. Vetco staff and the vet, Dr. Bulduc, were unprofessional during the entire encounter. My first appointment was full of misinformation and misunderstanding between their check in staff, resulting in a huge mess. The individual checking me in became upset when I asked to read the form before I signed it. There were things in the form I had questions about or did not consent to. When I got to the area where the vet was, I started to go in, and was rudely told I wasn't permitted in that area. I was not told this in advance. I stated I wanted to observe. Instead, another individual engaged me in conversation about my concerns to distract me. When the vet released my dog to me, I made it clear I wasn't happy about their behavior. I cleared up the misunderstanding with the store manager shortly after that when I came back another day. I was told they were going to 'give me a second chance' to see the vet. This was a different vet I saw that day. There were no issues, and this vet behaved appropriately. The manager called me 2 hours before my appointment today, saying Dr. Bulduc refuses to work with me. The manager stated she tried to explain the misunderstanding to him, and he didn't care. Evidently Dr. Bulduc isn't capable of having a conversation to clear up the misunderstanding with me. This is not the type of temperament that should be working with unpredictable animals. I needed this vaccination to start training classes at the store. I have canceled my class and requested a refund. I have closed my Petco account. I went in and personally spoke with the manager at the store. He apologized for how the situation turned out. This is at the University Dr. & Gilbert Rd. in Mesa AZ location. Vetco customer service tried to blow off my complaint. They stated that Dr. Bulduc put a note in my file that I should go to a full service vet or somewhere else. I'm sure there was more he said that the CSR didn't share with me. I had to make it clear I was filing a formal complaint against the vet. I don't have any confidence they're going to do a proper investigation. read more

This is the only place I could find between Arizona & California who had the Easter Bunny for dogs!! California is huge on pups, but I was shocked they weren't offering photos! Usually they have Santa, etc. So when I found Petco's calendar, I was so excited! The bunny had volunteered to dress up! Most people want $$ for doing a job--he went out of his way to raise money, instead of hoping to work a different department. His passion for animals was obvious! He was so gentle and loving. The girl taking photos was extremely patient and a perfectionist. Our photos turned out great! You could also tell they spent time decorating the backdrop instead of just having the bunny. These employees truly went out of their way to raise donations for dogs. If every employee was as this passionate about their job, Yelp wouldn't exist. Went to this store in need of a "no bark" system for my dog. I purchase the sonic sound brand. When it came down to buying a shock collar I could not do it. I read some reviews on the leading brands and the responses were mixed. Some owners said that it worked miracles and others said that it negatively affected their dogs behavior. The sales person that helped me was polite and very helpful. I love that they have a self serve treat station. My puppy Charlie loves treats and they work great while training. Still working on getting him to go outside but taking it one day at a time. For now the puppy pads will do :-) Im interested in the training pad that looks like grass...kinda expensive though. Recently my puppy has started to give me a fight when I go to clip his nails. So the sales person suggested a calming agent. I also bought a different kind of nail clipper and some blood stopper. I would suggest this for any person who is no comfortable with clipping their dogs nails. I know it seems simple (only cut the white part) but some dogs have the black nails also. This blood stopper works wonders, we used it at the vet clinic interned at. I will be returning to this store for all my future pet needs. *I believe I saw a vaccine schedule if you need to get your dog/cats shots up to date. read more

Every time I go in here there is always only 1 person who can get crickets and he's usually on the register with 5 people in line. He doesn't show any urgency to help gets the line down in an efficient manner. I've waited almost 30 mins at one point to vet crickets and he only had 2 people in line. My wife and I drove our crazy whippet/jack russell mix ALLLLL the way out to this Petco location because it's the only location that does the shot clinic on Sundays. That's a bonus for someone that works Tuesday through Saturday! There was a line about 15 dogs deep when we got there but the techs were fast and efficient. We stood in line for about 20 minutes, and the actual application of the shots were quick and painless for our little princess!! We wanted to adopt a cat. I stopped by on a Saturday, the store was not too busy. An employee was helpful. The cat I was interested in was extremely shy, and it was duly noted on her bio. She explained they do not take them out very often. (Red flag!) They have very small enclosures. She wrapped her in a blanket and led me to the back room where I bonded with her. I explained I would be back with my family the next day. She said she was off the next day. My return was a different experience. No one would help me! The woman who reluctantly agreed to open the cage, did not take her out. I told her about the blanket and she said they did not have any and rolled her eyes at me! What? I asked her how they get her out and she said we just go in and grab her. I tried to no avail. I told her I could not adopt her if I could not get her out. She looked at me like I was annoying her. How sad the animal rescue agency who places the cats there, have no clue as to how they are not promoted! I doubt they ever take them out to be honest.
