This my Shelby's first time at this location. When I tell you she looked simply amazing and clean her coat beautiful and shiny and clean she loves laying in the dirt. The staff did an awesome job. read more

Thank you Jaden for your patience, kindness and help. Petco is a great place to find all your pet essentials needs.

I visited the Petco on Poplar Avenue today to pick up some dog food and had a really smooth experience. The store was clean, well organized, and easy to navigate, which made finding what I needed quick and simple. I also spent time browsing the fish tank and turtle sections because I'm thinking about getting fish and upgrading my turtle's enclosure. They had a nice variety of aquarium décor and supplies that gave me plenty of ideas. I also enjoyed stopping to look at the different hamsters and birds, which were super cute and added to the fun of my visit. The staff members I interacted with were friendly and answered my questions without making me feel rushed. My checkout was fast and easy, and the cashier was polite and upbeat. Overall, it was a pleasant visit, and I'll definitely be returning when I'm ready to get new fish and decorate my turtle's home. read more

Bunch of haters as of late expecting something from a pet food store other than pet food. Not everything has to be to your liking! If this offends you or you want to argue, I am especially talking to you! Is it clean inside? Not really. Is it nice and all the help is bubbling to give you what you want? Nope. Does it smell? Yes. They let dogs walk their owners around as a policy. It's right there on the front door. How will a dog clean up after a human when they pee? That's just silly! Is it in the middle of Memphis? Map says positive. Adjust yourselves accordingly. If you make it home alive, chalk it up as a win. Do they sell decent to pretty good pet food and supplies? Yes! Yes, they do!! That is all you need from here!!! Side note: If you have ever said, "I spent my hard earned money" in any way just stop reviewing please. '24 - shit don't count either. Ugh. read more

Their aquarium crew is extremely knowledgeable. Gave me some great tips on cleaning the tank and what fish to get. Thank you.

Not happy at all with the grooming. My dog came back shaved down because according to them he was "matted". I brush my dog daily so that is impossible. I was aware he had ONE matt on the top of his head that I couldn't get out which i made sure they knew about and they said they had to shave him down completely. When it came time to pick him up the groomer says that she doesn't have time to be brushing all day and that's why she shaves them down. So basically she shaved my dog down for her own convenience instead of telling me she just didn't want to brush him. Also charging me extra to de matt but she literally just said she just shaved it and didn't dematt at all. My dog has cuts ALL OVER HIM. I don't know what they did to him but he is traumatized after being there. The groomer told my boyfriend she has been grooming dogs for ten years... so why does my dog have cuts all over him? My dog developed kennel cough after being here and even the vet was shocked by all his cuts and told us to never go back. If you love your animal don't take them here. They don't care about your pet and only care about their own time. read more

I wish I could give zero stars. This review is for the Petco in Memphis, TN on Poplar. Many people in the comments have already commented on this but the groomers are not helpful AT ALL. They actively look for ways to be unhelpful. I brought an updated vaccination card and was told my dog was too old to be groomed. I never heard of such. It was the 4th of July and it was obvious they simply didn't want to work that day. Thankfully I was able to find another groomer at PetSmart who fell in love with my baby and groomed her the same day. read more

The biggest complaint I have is the lack of knowledge in the aquatic department. I don't even bother returning the dead fish that don't make it home in the bag because they want so much documentation to decline your return/refund. I'm now stuck with a dead Gourami and two ivory snails. I could smell the odor from the snail tank before he pulled out the trap. I asked he said they are alive (many weren't, I've raise snails from eggs) you know that smell. read more

I came in to purchase a few fish for my outdoor pond on a busy Sunday afternoon (4/2/2023) and Tori did an excellent job handling customers and being helpful with advice. It was obvious she enjoys her job and customers. She took the time to listen to what I needed for my outdoor ponds and gave great recommendations. I came in only to buy an algae eater, but left with 2 fantail goldfish, 2 albino frogs and an algae eater she recommended! She is the perfect example of amazing customer service! Thank you Tori! read more

Petco - I always come here for my pet needs. Love this store - Pet Stores Near Me - Memphis, Tennessee

Savvy employees fixed me up with Drinking Fountains & Gourmet Pet Food! They were actively helpful & I appreciated it! Customer Service is so lacking @ many retail stores these days . . . But not here! Shelves were well organized with lots of cool stuff you will think you NEED if you come & browse without a List read more

The employees always close this business over an hour before closing time. If it says online they close at 9 they will be closed at 7:45pm easily. Also the employees are highly incompetent when it comes to any type of advice on products. read more

The cashier double charged me for the same purchase and when I tried to get him to cancel one of them and put my money back on the card he called the manager and the manager said he only gave me one receipt so I pulled it up on my online banking to prove it and he gave a 1-800# to call. After speaking to the manager there she explained that they only handle online orders & transferred me back to the store. It's been 2 weeks and I still have not got my money back yet. It was $56.00 read more

I have three dogs that require monthly grooming. Sometimes bi-monthly grooming. And given the exorbitant rates of Petco, I spend at least $400 on grooming at Petco a month. I know, it makes me sick too. Well, today they finally made me mad enough where I will never walk through that door again. And I mean it this time. Done deal, no going back. I just made an appointment with another grooming company (and a local one at that so even more of a win). So what made me so angry? Yesterday I take two of my pups to get groomed. She informs me that the shots for both pups had expired. I thought it was weird since I feel like I live at the vet these days so I asked her to be absolutely certain. She said both of the dogs' shots expired in September. Weird, and annoying, but I like they have a shot policy to make sure everyone stays safe. The lady was not nice...at all...which made me slightly grumpy but I'm all about responsible pet ownership so I went on my way. This morning I took those two pups to the vet and low and behold Scarlett did not have any expired shots! Holly did need hers though so we got them done. After the vet, I take the pups to Petco and I hand over all of the paperwork for all three of my dogs to the SAME lady from yesterday so she can update it correctly. She was INCREDIBLY rude and informs me that she will not bathe them since Holly had her shots today. Apparently they have a 24 hour rule. OK, fine, whatever, yeah, it was REALLY annoying that I took my dogs two days in a row and they wouldn't groom them but I will completely take responsibility for it and I understand they have certain policies. But this new chick that they've hired is so rude, insulting, condescending, and clearly just mad about life that she took the situation to a whole new level. Oh, and literally everything you buy here can be bought for a lot less money at Hollywood Feed (a local store). Goodbye forever, Petco! I will not be missing you. read more

If They Had An Option For zero stars, they would get it!! They are so rude!! Atleast 3 employees looked right in my face, and NOT ONE greeted us!!! It stinks so bad, as if some animals are dead!!! It's also junky!! I will never ever come back to this location!!! It should be closed down! read more

I went in to pick up my online order and needed to exchange an item. Aaron was super helpful and I was out within 5 minutes!

please fix your hours online if you're not gonna be open till 9pm I just ran out of food today & waited till 8 because online it says open till 9. The lack of consistency for a chain business is sad read more

Good luck trying to return anything! We got told we weren't able to make a return bc we didn't have a sheet that was never given. We were told they could look up the transition but we had to have the paper the employee wrote on... because we weren't given that we are out money. So evidently make sure you get the paper the employee writes on or hope you don't have an expensive fish die. read more

Petco, where the pets go! Lawd, I've rolled into this Petco more times than I'd like to admit. Every time I showed up, everyone was pleasant and very helpful. They have a vast selection of dog, cat, fish, bird, and reptile items to serve any need and concern you have. I got all my cat gear here and everything has long lasted. My fish, not so much. I had the bright idea of trying to maintain an aquarium a few years back, and that didn't last long. I'm happy to report the cats did though. LOL I've had my cats for almost 4 years now. One thing that I love about this Petco is they have a wall dedicated to adoption animals. You can view pin ups of different animals that are free to good homes and such. Check it out when you're in there. read more

I definitely feel now that petco is a superior pet store than petsmart. The selection is better. I really like the layout and they have some really neat animals. The associates seemed very nice and overall resulted in a friendly environment. read more

The grooming department has very poor customer service. The groomer Kelsey had a bad attitude and do not want to do her job. My dog was groomed in September here with verified shot records when I returned in December , the first groomer said she couldn't find his records , a second groomer came and found them in the system. The first groomer then says the weren't verified so he could not be serviced. I then asked to speak to the manager who also wasn't very helpful. She began to make excuses saying that the system was wiped out and all records were lost. My question was ,why when the appointment was made were we not informed to bring his records again for verification. Horrible experience, I will not be returning. read more

My husband took Miss Eleanor Rigby here to get a bath today. She also got her nails trimmed- and painted a frosty pink shade- and was dressed up in bows for under $30 bucks with a 2 hour turnaround time. For the record, we are so not the paint-your-dog's-nails-dress-her-in-bows people, and I'm not quite sure what was going through my husband's head when he requested all this. Regardless, she smells nice and is quite proud of all of her loveliness- so he gets a high five. I think I was most impressed by the fact that the Petco staff carried Miss Rigby to the car for him because he took in our 3 week old son who was being quite a handful. That right there is worthy of a fifth star. That's what I call service! read more

I used to get decent grooming at Petco. Not recently. My last grooming appointment was at 1:15 and they finally called me at close to 6 and said she was finally done. And that she was the last dog of the day. Her grooming looked like it, too. Uneven lengths all over and I even found matts on her. Isn't that what I'm paying for?? The appointment before that they forgot to clean her ears & I had to take her back to get it done. They no longer seem to be answering the phone and forget about them returning your message. They charge boutique prices for a sweat shop operation. It is horribly mismanaged. I liked my groomer a lot and tipped her very, very well. But, I've finally had enough. Going anywhere else has got to be better than this. read more

I love the staff here. Not so much the location or this specific store itself. The staff are ready and willing to help and offer advice when you need it. They seem to always have a smile. However, this store is tiny and carries a TON of merchandise. Not really a great marketing strategy. I feel like I'm walking around pallets of goods that don't really have a place on the shelf far too often. In addtion to this, the store is set up really poorly...the layout doesn't make logical sense in terms of where you have to go to get things for certain types of animals....it doesn't 'flow' per se. You can't go from dog food to food dishes. It's more like dog food to pooper scoopers to cat food to leashes to food dishes. Kills my soul. Overall, good store...lots of merchandise...great staff. Just not a place you want to go if you have a large animal accompanying. read more

Although we already liked Petco for our dogs' food and toys, we have spent A LOT of time at this location since we got a saltwater aquarium. They have a good selection of fish and corals, as well as a decent amount of equipment and supplies. It's not as good as the specialty stores in town, but sometimes you can find some really neat things in their tanks! What really makes this location great for us is the staff-Aaron is SUPER knowledgable about reef tanks, and he is willing to take time to answer questions from newbies like us! It's definitely something to check out. You might be surprised about the individualized attention you can get in a "big box" pet store-we were! read more

So I hit a rough patch and was getting lonely and wanted to find an animal friend, so like anyone would I went to the pet store, Petco. I was also wanted to cook something exotic. I was very disappointed that they advised me not to eat the fish they provided. I got some fish anyway along with getting a bearded dragon. I've noticed it likes to take my socks and underwear. I would like for Petco to have more right in the head animals.....good food tho. read more

The new groomers are not nice or helpful. Petco has always been too expensive, but now their bad attitudes outweigh the convenience. I was buying all of my dog products at Hollywood anyway, so now I will get my dogs groomed there too. read more

Alright, this is tough. I went in tonight to get my son groomed and was very pleasantly suprised. Every person in the grooming salon today was so friendly and helpful. My baby boy looks so handsome, they gave him exactly what I was hoping for. I really could not be more pleased with my experience. It was a surprise because sometimes this store is not the most pleasant place to be. Many times employees don't really seem to care and it's hard to find someone to help you. Also, most things are outrageously overpriced here. There are, however, some gems working here that make up for the other issues. read more

Of course I had to go get things for my furry feline babies...and this particular Petco has become my go to spot on the way home from work. The staff is helpful, they actually have a decent amount of cat things (since most Petcos are decidedly dogcentric) and the staff is always friendly and helpful. So if you need things for your kitty or puppy...head on down read more

Jonathan in the aquatic department really knows his stuff! He was able to answer all my questions on a new tank set up. Many of the online pet communities will put down employees of big chain pet stores as being unknowledgeable, but that is clearly not the case with Jonathan. Oh!.. and all the stuff I had bought and Jonathan told me I didn't need, they took the returns with no problems. That is what I call "Good customer service"! read more

We have a pretty neurotic large rescue dog who can act like a damn fool and quake with fear all in the same minute (she is terrified of men and has zero interest in other dogs). Don't get me wrong, she's an amazing dog but sometimes "outsiders" have trouble understanding what we see in her. She also occasionally breaks out of our yard and rolls around in anything that stinks (dead animals, feces, etc.). Any time this happens, we pinch our noses and march her into Petco Grooming without an appointment and they never complain and always accept her. I honestly don't know what we would do without them. Sometimes they are slow, sometimes they are distracted (and I have heard some horrible graphic conversations about dogs in heat amongst workers mid-job as if I weren't there), sometimes they order pizza from Domino's in the middle of a grooming, but they always take great care of my dog and she always leaves happy and smelling fresh and clean. And that is no small accomplishment. read more
