    No call to owner.

I have used Mutt Island since 2022 without complaint. On May 13, 2024, I picked up my dog, Nyx, after a 4-day stay and the manager/owner, Stan, nonchalantly states that Nyx has incurred an injury [please see pictures] while he was alone in a commonly used area of the facility. There were so many failures. As a manager and owner, he did not personally inspect the wound when his staff informed him of it. He did not call me when it occurred, depriving me of the opportunity to seek care. There was no immediate investigation of the cause. And most disturbingly, there was no first aid applied to wound. As a medical professional, I knew that I could manage the wound but any other pet owner should and would have taken their pet to the ER. I called the next day to detail all my concerns and Stan's excuse was that he was "caught off guard" and apologized and stated would be reviewing the security footage to find the cause. Note: They still have not found it. I simply asked to give my receipts from Hollywood Feed which totaled less than $50 (cone of shame, bandages, antiseptic solutions, etc.) and this request resulted in them severing the relationship. Once I asked, Stan's demeanor changed and he became combative and unprofessional. He cited that I signed a waiver that agreed to not hold Mutt Island liable for injuries and is not responsible. This is my warning to prospective clients of Stan's questionable business practices. He is under the misguided notion that his waiver is enforceable and protects him from liability but having unsafe quarters demonstrates negligence. This post puts on record for the next incident to someone else's dog that Stan and Mutt Island are fully aware of these conditions and have not acted to appropriately correct them. Thus the waiver's verbiage "Mutt Island will not assume responsibility for illness/injury of my pet unless it is due to negligence on the part of the Mutt Island staff." will be void. Note: In full transparency, I did take a settlement credit of ~$200 for Nyx's recent boarding which was offered (only after I inquired about submitting the receipts) when Stan chose to end the relationship. Unbeknownst to Stan, this was far more than the $40 in receipts that I was asking to submit but it further highlights his lack of ownership for the poor practices of his business.

We are so happy we discovered this gem of a doggy daycare/ boarding/ grooming facility while on vacation. Mutt Island is just an 8 minute walk from the Peabody hotel where we were staying. Stan was awesome and took good care of our 10 year old Bella. She made new friends and best of all didn't come back to us stinking. We used Mutt Island 3 seperate days of our vacation for daycare for various links of time and I expected her to smell like a dirty dog but she was clean. This facility is kept very clean.

Great facility with lots of space, and an awesome team! My pups were a little anxious to be dropped off (they're a bit anxious in general) but the person doing check-in knew exactly how to handle them. The facility has different groups to cohort the dogs so it's not too overwhelming. They had a great time, and were appropriately tired after a drop-in afternoon of play.

Owned by Robert Mutt Lange, who no longer has Shania Twain but still has his doggy shop. Oh that sounds bad. Sounds like Barbie tings really. What a lovely little dog business. I think it's owned by Robert Lange (made that joke already) (not Robert Langdon) (there was a world before Tom Hanks people) or maybe it's owned by Boba my lovely cat because he owns Boba Island and this must be related to that because the names are very similar. It's a really great doggie place in Memphis which is legendary in the region for many dog owners. Definitely gets 5 stars from me. We just met the vet when we were in town and he is a super great chap.

Passing through, we wanted to spend a day at Graceland. They where very nice and easy to deal with . We used the day care services. Dogs seemed happy, no worries. We would use them again. Thanks, Tony Rancho Cucamonga, California

I took my dog (and subsequent foster dogs) there over the course of the four years I lived in Memphis. My dog, Tikva, has some pretty intense stranger danger but immediately loved the owner Kathy and her daughter Lana. We also loved Emma and Lillian, and the rest of the staff. They always put her needs first and never pushed her out of her comfort zone. I always got amazing personalized communication (and cute pics) from them. I really appreciate how they offer solo daycare/boarding to accommodate her issues. The extended hours are also a big plus! My dog LOVED going to River Dog Inn. I wish I could've taken them with me when I moved! We miss you!!

They were able to offer daily reports on our pup and she had a great experience when she boarded there, as well. Maggie is high energy and honestly difficult at times, but they handled her so well! They all knew her by name quickly. I could give story after story of how helpful they were, but I will just select a few. 1. Our dog had some issues going to the bathroom due to her long hair one day and needing groomed. Long story short, the owner gave her a sanitary trim without being asked! 2. I had a few last minute scenarios where Maggie needed boarded at the 11th hour, and they were always caring and happy to accommodate. 3. They shared which toys Maggie liked so we could purchase them. 4. They cared for Maggie like family! I cried when we said our goodbyes!! They also took interest in us, which was so kind! If you are in Memphis and need a doggie daycare-look no further. Seriously, we had the very best experience and are so sad to be moving to another state because we no longer get to be patrons of this establishment! We will miss River Dog Inn and cannot praise them enough!!!

Before boarding, I specifically explained that my dog eats too quickly and will vomit if fed too much at once. I offered to provide his slow feeder and gave clear instructions that he should be fed slowly they refused and promised they would feed him slowly. Despite this, after watching the camera he was fed approximately 4 cups of food at one time in a regular bowl. This was the exact situation I was trying to prevent. I was also concerned about the amount of potty breaks he received. My understanding is that he was only taken outside about twice per day, which I do not feel is appropriate for a puppy of his age. Another concern was the way I was treated as a customer. I monitored the cameras because I wanted to ensure my puppy was being cared for properly. In videos that were sent to me of my puppy, I felt that I was being ridiculed and mocked for checking on his well-being. As a pet owner, I do not believe that caring about my dog's safety and treatment should be met with that kind of response. After learning about prior allegations involving the facility, these experiences raised additional concerns for me about the quality of care and professionalism provided. My review is based on my personal experience and concerns regarding my dog's treatment while in their care. Pet owners should ask detailed questions and make sure they are comfortable with a facility's practices before leaving their animals there.

In the last 11 months I "discovered" he is smart, curious, but also stubborn! He is not particularly fond of other little dogs. On day 1 - I saw him nervously walking around until he bonded with another dog and they started to play! The indoor outdoor arrangement by size is just wonderful as I watched him play in & out side. I checked in with the FurBabySitters and they said he was nervous at first. I watched him for the rest of the day and saw him do his "prance walk" around the indoor perimeter and I knew he was home! The FurBabySitters are really dog folks!! They are invested and courteous and treat their FurBaby guests as their own. I was unable to see Aléjandro's room camera and due to my asthma I did not personally visit the area though I was offered the opportunity during intake. The cameras did not work consistently-at times I could see other areas, but not the little dogs'. At the end of his stay the FurBabySitters confirmed by phone the scheduled pickup date & time and when I wanted him bathed. Upon pickup he was happy and well taken care of. He had not been overfed and was surprisingly calm and jumped into his wheeled carrier only to snooze on the way home. My only concern is the lack of human folk overnight; though I was reassured they had a great camera system for employees. Staffing one person who would be allowed to sleep and be paid 1/2 (as they are sleeping) would cost a little, but not too much... The owner/operators might be as to who would actually l volunteer for the overnight shifts. Overall, this facility is a well thought out and executed. The extras far outweigh my concerns and included a stocked area of doggie supplies if owners forgot to bring something. The FurBabySitters are exceptional and seem to enjoy working with FurBabies!
