Super friendly staff! My puppy had his first day in daycare and I was a little anxious about it but the staff was amazing and even let me look at the kennels from the doorway. They answered all my questions and I could tell they are well trained by the way they interacted with my dog. My dog is a rescue and I was worried about him being scared or not fitting in with the other dogs. When I picked him up he was so happy and wore out from playing with his new friends! We had a planned trip with a few days in Memphis. I searched for a good place to bring our pup for a day so we could enjoy some sightseeing. Mutt Island had such great reviews so we reserved a day. Our experience was great. Our Tyson had a great day totally happy and exhausted. I couldn't be happier with the employees caring for him today. I have used Mutt Island since 2022 without complaint. On May 13, 2024, I picked up my dog, Nyx, after a 4-day stay and the manager/owner, Stan, nonchalantly states that Nyx has incurred an injury [please see pictures] while he was alone in a commonly used area of the facility. There were so many failures. As a manager and owner, he did not personally inspect the wound when his staff informed him of it. He did not call me when it occurred, depriving me of the opportunity to seek care. There was no immediate investigation of the cause. And most disturbingly, there was no first aid applied to wound. As a medical professional, I knew that I could manage the wound but any other pet owner should and would have taken their pet to the ER. I called the next day to detail all my concerns and Stan's excuse was that he was "caught off guard" and apologized and stated would be reviewing the security footage to find the cause. Note: They still have not found it. I simply asked to give my receipts from Hollywood Feed which totaled less than $50 (cone of shame, bandages, antiseptic solutions, etc.) and this request resulted in them severing the relationship. Once I asked, Stan's demeanor changed and he became combative and unprofessional. He cited that I signed a waiver that agreed to not hold Mutt Island liable for injuries and is not responsible. This is my warning to prospective clients of Stan's questionable business practices. He is under the misguided notion that his waiver is enforceable and protects him from liability but having unsafe quarters demonstrates negligence. This post puts on record for the next incident to someone else's dog that Stan and Mutt Island are fully aware of these conditions and have not acted to appropriately correct them. Thus the waiver's verbiage "Mutt Island will not assume responsibility for illness/injury of my pet unless it is due to negligence on the part of the Mutt Island staff." will be void. Note: In full transparency, I did take a settlement credit of ~$200 for Nyx's recent boarding which was offered (only after I inquired about submitting the receipts) when Stan chose to end the relationship. Unbeknownst to Stan, this was far more than the $40 in receipts that I was asking to submit but it further highlights his lack of ownership for the poor practices of his business. read more

We are so happy we discovered this gem of a doggy daycare/ boarding/ grooming facility while on vacation. Mutt Island is just an 8 minute walk from the Peabody hotel where we were staying. Stan was awesome and took good care of our 10 year old Bella. She made new friends and best of all didn't come back to us stinking. We used Mutt Island 3 seperate days of our vacation for daycare for various links of time and I expected her to smell like a dirty dog but she was clean. This facility is kept very clean. read more

I think it's owned by Robert Lange (made that joke already) (not Robert Langdon) (there was a world before Tom Hanks people) or maybe it's owned by Boba my lovely cat because he owns Boba Island and this must be related to that because the names are very similar. It's a really great doggie place in Memphis which is legendary in the region for many dog owners. Definitely gets 5 stars from me. We were traveling thru Memphis and stayed for 1 night only with our 5 month old Bernedoodle, Rocco. We chose Mutt Island for just day care for our pup while we visited the Civil Rights Museum and Graceland. The facility is so close to Beale Street area hotels, so it's perfect for out of towners. It is an urban setting, but there is a decent grassy area in the side lot - which is nicely fenced in and secure (with privacy fence). The interior is pretty bare bones but large enough for dogs to play with one another and I did not see any crates (which I liked). The dogs are grouped by size and temperment in gated areas. After we dropped him off, we watched for a bit as the attendant took him outside by himself to get him acclimated first, then allowed him to mingle with the other dogs. While watching we bumped into a "regular" pet parent who had wonderful things to say about the management of the facility and how much her dog liked playtime, and that she brought him a few days a week just so he could play with other dogs. Upon our return, our pup seemed very happy and we saw him playing nicely inside with other dogs (it was a very stormy day that day!). The manager said he did great! I'd recommend Mutt Island to anyone who is visiting Memphis! It was exactly what we needed! read more

If you are traveling with your dog and staying at one of the many hotels in downtown Memphis or surrounding area, please check out Mutt Island. They are convenient and very accommodating. My husband and I were driving back to eastern Washington from Mrytle Beach, SC and we wanted to visit Memphis since it's been a long time since I've been there. When we checked into our hotel, they informed us that we could not leave the dog alone in the room. That poses a problem when you want to spend your time at Graceland, watching the ducks at the Peabody or checking out Beale Street for their BBQ & music. Well thanks to Mutt Island your day is saved. They are located almost directly behind LaQuinta Inn. Hotel located at 310 Union Street, downtown Memphis. I emailed them my dogs vaccination information and once they reviewed it, I was all set to bring him in. Once we arrived, we completed several pages of documents and left. Mutt Island closes at 7 (wish it was later but....) and we were there to pick Mo up. He enjoyed his time there and one tired dog. When traveling with a pet its hard on them and you especially if you want to see the sights and your pet isn't welcome. Hotels should include information as to pet day care facilities and emergency veterinary clinics close by in their room directory. While traveling through Memphis we needed some doggy daycare while we saw the sights. It was our first experience with doggy daycare in general and we were worried about how our pup would do. The staff was great greeting our dog, and putting our minds at ease. We brought him back on a second day and our dog was anxious to go back and pulled us through the door. I took my two dogs here for boarding and grooming. I'm sure services provided for boarding were adequate, however I'm never really sure how "well" it went except for if they came out alive and I traumatized. So for boarding - 5/5 stars. Grooming... I have a golden retriever that I requested a trim on. His toe, butt, and belly hairs were getting a bit unruly, and I didn't want anything cut down too much. When I picked him up, his entire behind was shaven down to the skin, his legs had been trimmed almost down to the skin, his chest wasn't touched at all, and his ears and tail were spotty. I am horrified. My second dog, I requested a bath and a nail trim since he is a short hair lab mix. The bath was done, but they didn't clip his nails due to him being "uncontrollable." I would accept this, except he has had his nails trimmed many other times at other establishments. And $30 for only a bath seems a bit excessive. Overall, I'd recommend Mutt Island for boarding and daycare, but stay away if you want your dog groomed. read more

Everyone here was pretty nice and it seemed like maybe they took ok care of our two dogs, but their communication is TERRIBLE. We left our dogs with them, one of whom had just been diagnosed with cancer (I couldn't help it; I had to go to a funeral out of town). I told them about it (and that she was on pain meds) and said maybe she shouldn't be with the other dogs -- they said they'd take her out to do her business individually. When I called to check in on her, no one called me back. When I called a second time, someone answered, but had nothing to say about how she was doing. Then he sent me a video showing her surrounded with all the other dogs (which wasn't supposed to happen). After I picked the dogs up, I discovered they hadn't given back one of my dog's collars. I called them up, left a message, but got no response. Called a second time, no response. I called a THIRD time and left a message saying I just wanted to know if they had the collar or not. No one EVER called me back. That is insane and unprofessional. read more

I don't think I can write a review with enough good things to say about Mutt Island. Our Siberians LOVE going to "school" and playing with their friends all day! They are excited to go and happy tired with we pick them up. When we board them, and load up their overnight bag, they are obviously excited for sleepovers with their friends. The owners and managers are truly "dog people" and their love for their work shows! Mutt Island has a HUGE well-ventilated indoor play area but even more exciting is the extra large outdoor play space! In downtown Memphis! And, in the summer? Oh they put up shade sails so the pups have shade when it's super hot. Seriously, we love Mutt Island and happily drive from Arkansas 3x a week to play with our friends. Picked up our dog after about 8 hrs. Dog was totally exhausted from playing with other dogs. The facility was located downtown, indoor outdoor facility. Very happy with the stay. I absolutely love Mutt Island. The whole staff has treated Thor and every animal there like they were their own pet and fur family member. I can't imagine anywhere else I would take my almost 100 pound fur son anywhere else. From the moment I drop him off to the moment I pick him up, he doesn't even pay attention to me because he loves it there so much. For the first time in two years, he finally gave me a dog hug and kiss good frolicking off to play with his friends at Mutt Island. The whole staff pours their heart, blood, sweat, tears, and soul into the business. You can tell by the animals reactions and love. Absolutely an amazing place, the owners were so accommodating and wonderful with our Boston Terrier Ziggy. We visited Memphis with our Ziggy and stayed at the LaQuinta Inn across from Mutt Island. They took our Ziggy on a drop in daycare basis while we went to Graceland and the following day while we went to Beale Street. (which was on a Sunday) Ziggy had fun and came back to us all played out and tired. They have an outdoor fenced in area for the dogs to play in and there is windows where you can watch the dogs play inside. I highly recommend Mutt Island. They rock!!! read more

We're traveling cross country with our dog and took a day off the road in Memphis. Dropped our dog at Mutt Island for a few hours so we could do some touristy stuff, and she could run off some energy with other dogs. I have been bringing my baby here for grooming for a year even though we now live in Olive Branch. I called to reschedule an apt which they had no idea I even had. They keep saying they are going to an electronic schedule and that apts have gotten lost. Horrible experience today so sorry to say I will be looking for a new grooming service. I had spoken to Heather about my apt today 4/19 and was promised that I could pick her up by 130 no problem. I dropped off at 945. Arrived back at 1:15 to find out she hadn't even been started yet. We were in town visiting Memphis. We have a 4-month old lab. We wanted to take the bus & boat tour (7-hours). Didn't want her alone all day. Brought her to Mutt Island. I was involved in a serious car accident Monday evening. My dog had been there for day care that day & I was on my way to pick him up. My closest family or "emergency contact" was 5 hours away. My mom was able to call and explain to them the situation and with no hesitation they made him a room and even adjusted his food to help with his separation anxiety issues. I finally was discharged and my dog was obviously the only thing I was crying over. My dad and I went to pick him up & they told me all about his week && even offered to give him a bath tomorrow if I would like to stop by. I cannot put into words how amazing this place is. The ownership is hands down the BEST and the most loyal, honest, hard working people in the MidSouth. The day I move from Memphis, I will definitely not cry because of leaving this city. But I will cry knowing that NO other doggy daycare will love my baby and me as much as they do. If I could give them 500 stars, I would ask to give 501. Absolutely amazing. read more

We absolutely love Mutt Island. My husband and I recently moved back to Memphis from Los Angeles -- and we were in need of finding a daycare for our mini schnauzer. I popped around town looking for dog daycares. I'm so glad that I stumbled into Mutt Island! The location is great (we live downtown) -- but the staff is so chill and down-to-earth. Walt (our pup) used to get very clingy to me when I dropped him off at daycare in Los Angeles. Now, he goes back to the room without any hesitation. He really loves going to 'school' and he gets sassy with me if he hasn't been in a few days. The package options are great -- makes it hassle-free after a long day - you just sign him out and go! Fantastic grooming. Used to take my yorkie to a chain groomer, never again. They gave her the best yorkie cut I've ever seen on her & cleaned her ears without my prompting (the chain I'd have to tell them to please do it, with it still not being done most of the time). I expected to pay high dollar because of mutt islands location, but was pleasantly surprised at the bill. It was only 10$ more than the bowl-cut chain haircuts. Worth every penny. The employees were fantastic! They were both so friendly and genuinely engaging with both of our dogs. I gave them a call the morning of to see if we could bring our boys by for a day of daycare and Stan let me know that it wouldn't be a problem at all and we could bring them right in. We filled out a small bit of paperwork and our doggies went off to socialize. Their prices are very reasonable as well, especially for two dogs! They have multiple wide open play areas for the dogs to all socialize in (no kennels, which I personally loved). The doggos are also allowed outside frequently to run and play. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone who wants their dogs looked after while traveling in Memphis! read more

My wonderful dog Mike spent many days at Mutt Island and they are like family. I trusted him with them for boarding when I went out of town too. Everyone is so caring and sweet with every pet. My sweet Mike was 17 years old and slowed down so much in his last few months. Heather took such good care to keep him in a good space with dogs that were at his pace. Several days he just stayed with her and roamed around. He passed in April and Heather followed up with me on how things were going and even sent flowers. First time visit in TN we brought our little dogs. Stood in La Quinta and although dog friendly hotel, you can't leave dogs unattended. Lucky we found this gem across hotel. So happy we found it. Great rates, very clean and hip location. Owner is very friendly and loving towards dogs. She made our 4th of July trip so easy. Bear and Koda were welcomed and treated nicely. If ever around the area with your dogs I highly recommend this place. Must read more
