Absolutely unacceptable experience at the Petco in Lompoc, CA. I was in the store with my family, including my 7-year-old daughter, to purchase a teddy bear hamster and a temporary cage. While an employee was retrieving the hamster, the General Manager approached us aggressively, raised his voice, and began scolding us about the cage, claiming a previous hamster had gotten ringworm from it. I tried to calmly explain that the cage was temporary and that we had done our research, but he would not let me speak, repeatedly talked over me, and belittled me in front of my child. His behavior was hostile, intimidating, and completely unprofessional. He then told us that if the hamster got sick, we should "not come back" because he would refuse to replace it, which felt threatening rather than helpful. Most alarming, his speech appeared slurred, and there was a strong smell of alcohol. Regardless of the cause, his conduct was inappropriate and concerning, especially from someone in a management role. What should have been a happy experience for our daughter was completely ruined. No customer -- especially a family with a child -- should be treated this way. Corporate should seriously look into the management at this location. read more

Drive to Santa Maria if you want customer service and not being judged. I had aquariums my entire life and they make it as hard as a child adoption. They are loud , argumentative and contrarian to whatever you say asking a ton of questions of which you will never get it right unless you have a pound . Just ask if we've had that fish before or if you have questions about care . those fish are there for only god know how long in those overcrowded tanks. Not even want to say on the betas. The first associate was nice and straight to the point and having people skills (prob new employee). While he was starting to retrieve the 3 fish I asked for, his manager (of someone who feels like it) asked him very rudely to stay away that he would take of the rest. But once he took over he asked me a ton of questions making us feel harassed then saying I could not take the fish I want . In front of my kid and wife making it a terrible experience for me and my entire family. read more

first time i went in to get shrimp for a new beta tank i had gotten. i looked for shrimp and ALL OF SHRIMP WERE DEAD. I waited 3 weeks and went again to get some shrimp just for one of them to have a horsehair worm also not even 100% sure these are ghost shrimp. they look like whisker shrimp, would explain the worm. read more

This store has a policy that THEY DECIDE what you can purchase in the fish dept! When I told them I wasn't going to discuss my aquarium set up with them, they refused to sell me anything. I have had aquariums my entire life (I'm OLD) and have never returned a dead fish to them. Today I wanted to purchase some fishes they refused to sell me she said due to short staff and closing no name tag but she's tall white with glasses and she said she has a lot of stuff to do by the way it's 8:12pm and it closes at 9pm there's two people working one in the register and her just roaming around being on her phone and she said she has a lot of things to do and be done before closing we have orders from our manger and he said no we can sell fishes due to short staff as she explained to me she said she got orders from her manager saying no we can sell you fishes due to shoet staff gave me a tone with an upset attitude I go and ask Taylor he said "we are in short staff we can't give you fishes so no is No!! and he said quote "you'll be surprise you how much time it' takes to bag a fish" I cant sell you fishes to you so NO!!! Person who was "covering" the shift of my dog's groomer had an attitude from the second we started talking to her. Unknowledgeable about dogs with double coats as she was insisting my dog had matting so she wouldn't have to get him in today. If you have employees who don't want to be there they should quit. Beware, this past week, for at least two days the manager demanded that customer use a card or exact change. There were no signs out informing customers about this, expect two handwritten notes on each cashier counters. The "manager offered to round up to the nearest dollar". I felt it was unethical and somewhat shady. While I complained, the supervisor, Taylor demeaned me when I suggested that he should put up notices on the front door about exact change so people would be aware of it before entering. He also lied to me at least five times, that I could count. Even to say he was waiting for the person to return with change. I already had been informed by a friend that it happened to her the day before. I've live in Lompoc my entire life, and after going to the store for my pet supplies for years, I quit as this was the second time I gave them a chance to make a difference to no avail. I took my dogs to them several years ago hoping things would change. I've been taking my last dog there for the last few appointments and they've been fine. However, today my poor elderly dog who is going blind and deaf (almost 13) went in for a grooming and was there for 4 hours. I called multiple time with no answer to check on her. Finally went to the store and the told they needed about 1 more hour. I can't even believe they would make an excuse and say its busy. I don't care how busy it is. Clearly they were overbooked. No longer can carts go out to cars. You have to bring car to door and they will put your purchases in it. Hopefully they do not have a long line waiting to check out while you are waiting for your purchase to come out. Store aisles blocked by merchandise to be stocked. This review is for the customer service from a cashier. NOT at all for the groomers, they are alway polite, professional and great with the pups. However... for a bit now there has been a employee who I've only ever seen at the cash registers. Sometimes he acknowledges your presence, sometimes you must get his attention. Heavy set white guy with glasses named John. Usually he's either whining about some pain he's having or how tired he is. Today I was unlucky enough to be standing behind a customer paying for something when he started berating an employee doing something near his area. Evidently the other employee had moved something that he thought belonged to someone else, but in fact, belonged to John. The other employee was apologetic, stating he did not realize that belong to John. But John would not let up on him. I asked him if he thought maybe there was a better time to admonish someone than when you have customers in front of you, his reply was " it hasn't stopped the flow of anything." I told him that it was making others uncomfortable and probably should stop. I'm afraid I was very unprofessional when I gave up promoting CS and I called him an a**hole. He immediately became sugary and disgustingly condescending. In an attempt, I guess, to "kill me with kindness." On 7/15 @ about 2 a wonderful gentleman named John assisted me. He was amazing above and beyond. When this location did not have a dog whistle, he called the Santa Maria location and then went so far as to call Pet Smart the competition amd finally Lemos in Lompoc who had them. He took the time to help me find what I needed for my science lesson even though it meant sending me elsewhere when he realized the day of the project was too soon to order it. Ten stars, good man! We were interested in adopting a second green cheek conure, we were ready with all the supplies plus another large aviary that we needed to roll out of storage. We were beginning the process of adopting the bird, with 2 very friendly and helpful associates. Then the "lead" cashier John yells at one of the younger associates saying he promised the bird to another couple, yet they do not hold any animal for any reason. He then brought the other couple interested in the bird over to us causing a very awkward and tense stand-off with them pleading their pity story to us. John informed us we must have the cage set up prior to purchasing the bird, and then we would have to see who can get it set up faster and come back, we then left. John was extremely unprofessional and rude because he made the mistake of promising something he should not have. The way he spoke to the other employees was appalling, he needs to work on his communication skills with both customers and co-workers or be removed from the floor immediately. P.S. The other two associates were truly exceptional employees even with this unfortunate situation they carried themselves in the utmost professional way! read more

Scheduled Appointment for 3 month old Miniature Schnauzer on 7/29/2021.I explained to the girl on the phone that he does not have second series of shots yet, but I would like to get his grooming done. I asked if they were able to do it without his second series of shots, I was told yes, not a problem, So I reserved the 8:30 AM 8/7/2021 appt. Show up at 8:30 AM, the front door is closed, but unlocked, so I open it, go into the groomers area and am greeted by some guy sitting behind the counter. He asks for vaccine records of rabies and parvo. I explain that the girl I spoke with said i did not need to have the second series of shots, that is why I scheduled the appt. This clown ask if I knew the name of the girl who told me that. NO, but he works there and knows who works with him right? Get your shit together groomers of petco. This is solely for the grooming section because I haven't done much shopping in the store. This is because for the food that my dogs like they don't carry the largest sized bag. For that reasonI have to go to Petsmart in Santa Maria, and because I buy dog food there, I make my other pet purchases there too. Regarding the pet salon, everyone there is very cordial and outgoing. They make me and my dogs feel welcome. I've never been dissatisfied with my pet's haircuts, and they are open to my feedback during the de-brief, which made the subsequent haircuts better. We have taken one dog to this location twice and our little dog once and took both dogs to the Santa Maria location once to see if they were any better. At both locations they told us it would be a 3 to 4 hour grooming appointment. It took OVER six hours every single time.... and the groomer was annoyed that our one dog finally peed! The dogs were there for over six hours with no bathroom break, what did she expect? Then on top of that, the Santa Maria location gave our dogs flees. So I carry bag up to front. Waiting sometime while the mngt and a customer chat. The cashier does take me. So I put my 4lbs at $22 priced dog food, $20 more in snack and the lowered priced brand. I show her "$2 off" but does the mngt say "take $2 off"???? Nope says they'll price match. How the heck am I going to know the price? And if it's $2 off at the other place with the coupon, you're going to match it anyway!!!! Promptly left the stuff there and heading to Santa Maria petsmart. While Lompoc has many empty store fronts now, I hope and pray to see this one closed soon. Update to the mngt. I did go to the store next door. BEWARE DO NOT TAKE YOUR DOG HERE. I took my dog to get groomed here today for the first time and I will NEVER come back ever again. I was told to bring my dog at 2pm and was supposed to pick him up at 5pm. When I arrived at 5pm, the lady named Glenna was working on another dog and claimed that my dog was being difficult and wouldnt stay still so she gave him a "break". Told me to come back till 6pm. I left.. but I had a bad feeling so I came back earlier. As soon as I walked in she was working on my dog and was carelessly chopping away his hair, I was horrified at how my dog looked, HORRIBLE! I said I wanted to take him now, so she said that he was so matted and had to cut more than what I asked. LIAR! I brush my dog's hair daily, his hair was not matted and he just needed a trim. She said she would give me a discount (origional price $46) she said she would charge me for the bath $20. I said no because he is full of hair and still damped and his hair looks really bad. Not what I asked for. She went and called the manager, lied to him about the whole ordeal. He backed her up and I was told that due to the condition that my dog was in they didnt want him back there again. No apologies. No customer service. I even got called a bitch by the groomer as I was walking out with my dog. I hope nobody will experience what I did today and I hope my experience help others. Do not take your beloved pet here. This is a review for the groomers. The staff are extremely friendly and very good with my dog. She has a thick undercoat and as much as I tried I couldn't even come close to brushing her out. I chose the full bath with deshedding and added the pick 3 package. She was groomed by Evan and after 3 hours (this is normal for her grooming) I picked her up! SHE LOOKED AMAZING! I could tell that Evan treated her well because even as we were leaving she went to get a last pet from him. I know Petco has some not so positive reviews but they are old ones. My baby girl looks amazing and I couldn't be more pleased! read more

This Petco has everything we need and the staff is always friendly. Our main reason we go here is for dog food and having three dogs we need a lot of it. The problem I have is there are never any shopping carts. We have been told the last four times we have been there they are getting more. How are we supposed to purchase large bags of dog food without a shopping cart? One of the nice employees even had to help me carry out a bag one time but I felt so bad for him having to do it. I hate to say it but if they don't get any shopping carts soon we will start getting our pet supplies at Walmart or Costco. They always have plenty of carts. read more
