I was looking for somewhere new to get our 14 year old Cockapoo groomed, as our regular person had booked out too far. After doing a bit of research and getting past poor experiences with Petco Grooming, I made an appointment to bring her in. The building doesn't do much in the way of building your confidence, and the inside is pretty gloomy, but Rebecca who groomed our dog was absolutely wonderful. She was attentive to listening to how we wanted her groomed, and acknowledged her age and mentioned how they would look out for her and give her breaks etc. when I picked her up, she looked perfect! Exactly what we wanted, and even better than our regular groomer. I will be switching to bringing Sadie here from now on to have Rebecca groom her. She looked great, and our dog didn't seem overly stressed out and she was super happy. I would highly recommend bringing your dog here, and definitely recommend Rebecca. She is awesome! read more

I asked the manager for assistance, and he told me that an employee was helping another customer and would assist us next. I was there to buy about five koi fish. After finishing with the other customer, the employee said they would come back to help us, but they never did. We waited around 20 minutes by the fish tanks without anyone coming to help us. To make matters worse, the employee spent most of the time on their phone instead of helping customers. It was very unprofessional and showed a complete lack of customer service. Poor communication, no follow-through, and a total waste of our time. Horrible service. read more

I've used them several times, the Hagerstown grooming place is significantly better than the Frederick one. But what has me writing the review is that they specifically did something I asked them not to. I paid for 3 dogs to have grooming and very specifically told them to not cut the tail of one of them. We wanted it left long. When I went back to pick them up the tail had been shaved. They claimed it was because of matting but if they had left it alone like I had asked them to they wouldn't have even had a razor going through the hair to even know there was some small mats. It took 2 years to grow that tail out. read more

Update: after I posted about my dogs' grooming appointments being cancelled the day before (for the second time in a row), with no reason given, no make up date being offered, no discounts - nothing - Petco replied (copied and pasted): "...Please reach out to us at (301) 631-9010 to address your concerns under our 100% satisfaction guarantee." I called. Someone took my information, said I'd get a return call. So far - two days later - nothing. I guess that "100% satisfaction guarantee" is just for PR sake so that it looks like they care. Too bad they actually don't. Words are cheap; actions are a little harder. read more

I feel like this was a grocery store or something like that before becoming a Petco. It also appears that they did not do a very good job at covering it up. You can take that as the inside of this store does not look like a typical Petco. The layout of the store is a bit off because of this as well. It is a bit disorienting. When I was able to finally find the section I was looking for, of course I was let down. I had bought a litter box that was supposed to be top of the line. Ended up that this was about the only place that you can find the items you need. Sadly, overtime, the items are slowly disappearing from the shelves. Most times when I show up here there are only one item on the shelf at most. I can only ever find one item at a time. It's not very convenient. Once I finally did find one of the items, I made my way up front to pay. I give big props to the one employee as she was moving fixtures by herself to set up displays. However, the guy behind the counter was a mumbler and I had to ask him to repeat himself several times. read more

The groomers are terrific, but the management is horrible. I have been a client for years for my three dogs, who never posed a problem to the groomers. When I brought my elderly, blind dog, who the groomers were familiar with, for grooming after a lengthy time due to my own health issues, the manager and unfamiliar staff approached my dog roughly, sparking a reaction from my dog. The manager then refused service, stating my dog was on the brink of death. I just got back from the main rival of Petco, who treated my dog with respect and caring. The result is a beautiful groom and relaxed dog. I have 2 additional dogs, with almost a dozen more in the family. Petco has lost our business due to the aggressive, boarish behavior of the grooming manager. Do not give them your business, particularly for older or special needs dogs. read more

Have been purchasing GloFish aquariums and supplies from this store. We had an early annoyance because we had purchased multiple fish, and 2 died right away. When my DEAF son tried to return the fish they hassled him. So we decided that we would no longer return any dead fish just give them "burial at sea". This past Saturday he (my DEAF son)went to the store as we wanted to add 2 more fish. He was again hassled about our water quality, etc. and they wouldn't sell him the 2 fish we wanted, they told him he had to buy 3 fish and they all had to be the same and the same color, which the GloFish website does not say must be done and defeats the purpose of having a colorful GloFish aquarium. I usually send my son because I have a service dog and going to pet stores in the middle of the day on a weekend when everyone is out is not fair to him. This same Saturday I dropped off my dog early in the morning and spent over $170.00 getting my dog groomed. Because they seem to like to take advantage of people with disabilities and they will not be getting any of my business any longer. It is sad because my service dog loves getting groomed there but I have already cancelled all my appointments with Petco and am looking for a new groomer. read more

Bought an aquarium online, picked up at the store, with some online discounts. When I got home, the aquarium has a big crack so I had to go back for replacement. The guy on the counter processed it as return instead of exchange. The price of the tank has already increased so if i rebuy, i will have to add twice the price. No matter how i insist on just exchanging it, he still asked for the prove difference! The guy was very unfriendly as well. I needed the tank that day so I had no choice but to pay up. Lesson learned, not coming back for the fish nor the bird and cage i was planning on buying in next few days. Will go somewhere else. read more

The grooming dept is not well equipped for large dogs. I have a large Alaskan malamute that is very rambunctious. There used to be a groomer employed at this location that also owned a malamute who took great care of my dog. However, most recent visit was cancelled because the current staff is not equipped for dogs like mine. read more

My primary concern is the lack of consistency and logic. My experience with Petco started out fairly good but has only gone downhill from there. I downplayed early flags (surly and indifferent frontline employees, unkempt/chaotic facilities, malfunctioning online accts and slow check-ins) because I rationalized that the end result outweighed the process. My attempt to arrange our 4th grooming was fraught with frustration. In response to advertising, I opted to take advantage of their "now offering walk-in services," promo only to be told they couldn't accommodate us because "walk-ins still need to phone ahead to confirm availability." They reserved an alternate appointment for days later, but before we could make that one, they contacted me to cancel due to a scheduling conflict so I ended up going to a different groomer for expediency. Earlier this week, I requested specific services on the website and chose a same day 2pm appointment from the available time slots listed for those services. Again, I was subsequently contacted to cancel because the groomer said there was not sufficient time to complete the service before s/he was scheduled to get off work that day. I rescheduled again for this morning. Despite having previously registered, provided vet records and being a repeat customer, I was asked to complete a pre-visit questionnaire. I was contacted later and told I must provide a letter from the vet stating that, despite my dog's (level 1) heart murmur, she was cleared for grooming. My vet provided the requisite info in an email with the logical caveat, "if she becomes stressed, discontinue grooming," then that became the new issue. By this time, I'd been trying to get my girl checked in for nearly an hour (on a workday). I reasoned with them that she had been there multiple times with no problem, received no negative feedback, and had no notes in her file. I shared that she has previously been serviced at my neighborhood pet salon as well as at two different businesses in another state where I travel to help care for a family member--all without incident. The employee then said that my dog was currently exhibiting anxious behavior. She was not. Hers is a rare breed that is not commonly familiar. She can simply present as hyper because, although she looks like a lap dog, she's an energetic/working breed. She is also very affectionate and attention seeking. Moreover, I would never nonchalantly risk the significant financial and emotional investments I've made in my pet for the convenience of a typical grooming service if I thought for a minute it would be life threatening. I've been pleased with Petco's grooming in the past and (regrettably) recommended them on my community social media page. I purchase their value add services, subscribe to their Vitality plan, and tip their techs generously. I even offered to sign an indemnity to remove liability, and they still refused me service. Go figure. Fortunately, there is no shortage of pet groomers in Frederick and surrounding localities. read more

BE AWARE! This was our first booking at this location and definitely my last. I experienced horrible customer service, lack of professionalism from the manager Jamie. On time for my appointment and she refused to provide grooming services to my dog... her tone was very unprofessional she told me to leave out of her shop as her staff insisted on laughing! Both Selena very rude, Omar laughing as he listened to his manager telling me we're not serving you just leave.. UNPROFESSIONAL Please consider elsewhere..could you imagine if the manager is treating customers like this just think how she's treating your Pet when you leave. I noticed she was very comfortable with her behavior and clearly she's training her staff to be unprofessional. My questions were not clearly answered when I checked my dog in, when ask to see written policy, request was declined and she insisted on being rude. I immediately ask for the store manager Jen, she totally agreed and was apologetic for the treatment and advised me to please call corporate. I immediately contacted another groomer in the area to schedule services and shared what I just experienced and was amazed without even sharing names only the location they knew exactly who I was talking about, customers have shared many complaints regarding W Patrick Petco manager Jamie...that was sincere confirmation for me to past the word for pet owners to consider elsewhere. Grooming staff do not know how to handle dogs! They were rude to me and aggressive with my dog. They were rough when nail trimming which resulted in hurting my dog and him trying to jump off the table. I became upset because my dog was choking and they were doing absolutely nothing to help him until I asked them to. Instead of trying to work out a solution, they tried to tell me I had to leave without a refund despite not finishing the trim and hurting my dog. They proceeded to argue with me and were very rude during the entire process. Eventually a manager gave me a refund however after the way they handled my dog, I will never go here again. read more

She called not 5 minutes later to say that my dog snapped at her. I booked near end of day so idk if she just didn't want to deal with another customer. The employees are generally very nice and knowledgeable in this store. The store is not why I am giving it a 3. Corporate policies and poor maintenance of the live animals they have in the store is why. Also - for a store that sells small animals (including chinchillas, ferrets, and guinea pigs) they don't carry much in terms of options of foods, treats, cages, and cage needs for these types of animals either. Most has to be bought off the internet. I bought my little ferret here in March. About 3-5 days later when I took him to the vet, I was told his stool tested positive for giardia. A parasitic bowel disease. It's only transmitted through ingestion of contaminated feces through infected water/shared food/ and general close quarters. He had to be treated for this with antibiotics for ten days. This is a disease that can be transmitted to humans as well. Petco buys from marshals which is a known ferret mill in the U.S. (wish I had known before getting my little boy there but you live and learn). I called the store this morning and spoke to Terry, the store manager. He was very nice. I understand a lot is over his head. He addressed my concerns and said nobody had ever reported giardia infection to him before. He assured me the little guy I was worried about in the store the other day was adopted out. All in all took responsibility for things and was receptive to feedback. Hope to see some higher up changes in policy so the employees don't have to face the brunt of what happens when big policy sells the general public sick animals or poor products. Edit: updated review. I did the stupid thing and bought a second ferret here. I love him to death so he was not the stupid thing. Me trusting them again was the stupid thing. I got another giardia infection but called to report it immediately. The woman I talked to asked for proof and I gave them all the labs from my ferrets vet and a letter. They certified my ferret to be disease free. I was asked upon report of the second case of giardia, quite literally, "so do you wanna like, return him?" And I said no, I wanted my money back. Which surprisingly they did refund me just the cost of my ferret because all their corporate offered me $5 voucher in pet perks and a half assed apology. I dropped off paperwork on a Friday and was told the manager would call me the next day. I had to call again on Monday and was told the employee I gave the paperwork to on Friday had hid my packet with information and lab results because she was scared the manager would get mad. I only come here on the off chance I need litter and won't have time to order it from Chewy. They keep selling ferrets they can't take care of. When I reported my second case of giardia the woman I spoke to had no idea what it was, and said she had never heard of it. Had about nine in there the last I saw. Overly disappointing that they blow every chance I've given them time and time again. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place like the severe cases of giardia they've given my ferrets. read more

Why does Petco not use PurVac rabies vaccines? Vaccines with preservatives can cause tumors in animals especially cats. At the very least Petco vets and mobile clinics should have to disclose this information to anyone who brings their pet in for a vaccination. read more

The groomers were very kind and I could tell my dogs would be in good hands. When I went to pick them up they were incredibly clean and my husky looked so much leaner due to the amazing brushing they did for her! This location on West Patrick Street in Frederick is doing a wonderful job when dealing with difficult customers. Their was a man who didn't want to wear a mask and they were being as polite as they could they never raised their voice. Just simply asking him to wear a mask. He kept yelling for them to stay 6 feet away so he didn't need to wear one, but the law states you need to wear masks in public buildings in Maryland. He was yelling and spraying his germs all over the employees if he would have just said put a mask on their would have never been any conflict. I am very impressed with the professionalism that they held when he put them and the customers at risk. Even wishing him a good day when they finally got him to leave the building. I tried to shop at this a Petco on Memorial Day, 2020, but left when I was denied use of the bathroom. I live 25 miles away from this store and was in Frederick, MD to patronize several stores. By the time I got to Petco, I needed to use the bathroom, so when I walked in, I asked where it was. I was told I could not use it. I said that I was there to purchase a sizable order of cat food, and that I couldn't shop until I used the bathroom. Again, I was denied. I said I would have to leave, and they said they could not accommodate me. I left there and went to a local grocery store and used their facilities and was under no obligation to purchase anything. I then traveled to the local Petsmart where I purchased $159 worth of cat food and supplies. I will not ever go to another Petco as they are not set up to accommodate their customers' bathroom needs while they are shopping there. read more

Petco in Frederick has always been incredible. I don't take my dog anywhere else. I was taking him to Petsmart and the cashier there made an extremely hurtful comment about my Great Dane and that was 5 years ago. Every time I go to Petco, the cashiers and staff or more than accommodating. When I get him his bulk hydroxyl cookies, they always make sure he gets the unopened packages and the freshest ones. They let me know about specials and are always very welcoming and friendly. I have never had a bad experience at Petco and it's the only place I will take my dog for his treats. read more

I have always gotten my dog groomed at PetSmart, but when her groomer quit, we decided to try Petco. What a mistake. My dog has always been afraid of the groomers so we let them know and they assured us she was in good hands. After picking her up and taking her home, I noticed a small nick above her eye. I was already upset about this when I noticed another larger cut on her elbow. I was outraged. I went back and was given a weak apology and a refund. I'm extremely disappointed and will not be coming back. My poor senior dog will surely be 10x more nervous going to her next grooming appointment. I have been going to this Petco in Frederick for a while and multiple times for the grooming. I just called today and I asked the young lady a simple question of if my puppy would be given a bath right away or if he is held in a kennel for a while until his bath and she puts me on hold. Comes back on the phone and says that they are usually busy on Saturdays and I completely understand. The only reason I was asking was because the last time I took my puppy the groomer suggested that I take advantage of the Rush Rover system however, I can not because I work during the week and work far. Once I asked the young lady again and explained to her why I was asking her, I hear a guy in the background say "If she has an issue with it then tell her to use Rush Rover" with a snippy attitude. I asked her for the guys name because that comment was unnecessary and uncalled for, especially with that tone. She puts me on hold and then the Salon Manager comes on the phone and explains to me about their service, I respectfully told her that I am not and was not asking about why it takes 2-3 hours for a bath. I was asking for the guy's name and she wants to go ahead and say that she doesn't know why I need the guy's name and explained to her the situation and she still didn't give me the name. She said "all I am trying to do is schedule the appointment for you and I don't know the situation". Well I told you the situation and as a customer, I am asking for the guy who made the unnecessary, disrespectful and rude comment. I won't be going back there. EVER read more

We just had our three dogs groomed here and I am floored by how well they did. We have a border collie(ish) dog with longer hair, a boxer/rottie mix with short hair, and a recently rescued Great Pyrenees with impossible mats and dirt. Not only did they come home gorgeous, but they were calm which is rare post-grooming. I have never had better groomers...and I have a long history of disliking groomers. They were awesome. No concern about going back to them. read more
