In May of 2023 we adopted Dakota a 90 lbs. German Shepard / Chinook 2-year-old puppy. We did not know much about our boy's first couple of years growing up. He did settle in with us nicely. However, the more comfortable he felt the more he became a resource guarder, nipping at people who came over to the house. We had tried a couple of in-home trainers and found that we are great dog parents. However, we are not good dog trainers. I brought my one year old, recently re-homed to me, Shichon (Evie) out of desperation to find a way to address the escape artist tendencies and nervous piddles her previous owners and I experienced. Evie just completed her 5th week of training with Olivia and is like a whole different dog. I can't say enough about how wonderful Olivia is to work with and how much love she showed my pup. Your groomer decided way before I told her that I gave my dog meds that she did not have time to groom my dog. I admit was nervous to leave my pup here as he's my baby and honestly, doesn't need much training. But he gets distracted easily...squirrel!!! And once he does it's like tunnel vision. I was told Sit Means Sit was great for distraction training and could get my dog ready for K9 Good Citizen and in a program to be a therapy dog. I had a meeting with one of the owners and brought in my dog before signing up for everything. He took the time to sit me down and show me the collars they work with. I was very opposed to using a collar to train my dog until I found out that it is NOT a shock collar! It's just like a TENS unit they use at the chiropractor. It just gives the dogs a tap tap as another sensory item (in addition to a verbal command and a visual motion) to cue the dog that you want them to do something. I even tried it on myself before signing papers, just so I was "sure"! I think the intense training over 12 days and the introduction of the collar was the key to getting rid of distractions and the results I wanted. I saw them right away...and now it's my job to keep up on it! Two other things to note: 1. The package includes some private training sessions and then free group training for a year. I'm definitely taking advantage of that! You may have some sticker shock, but with what you get, it makes sense to me. 2. They send you videos, photos and email updates every few days. This really put my mind at easy, especially because I saw how HAPPY he was at training. I was worried that he would come back and want to stay with his trainer, Jenny. She is great at what she does and you can tell she really loves the animals. It seemed that way with all the other people I've met there as well. read more

Just want to put a shout out to Cole (Frederick office) for doing a amazing job training our Katy (little mama). Katy (black lab) was totally out of control when we dropped her off for the inhouse training. We have a completely different dog now!! What a relief to be able to say "come" and she does it!!! We keep the collar on but most of time we don't even need to use it. We really haven't had to many problems with her "High prey drive" either. L.K.'s "moral opposition" to Sit Means Sit training methods are unfounded and based in ignorance. If you need dog training and have found the conventional trainers do not work for your pup, Sit Means Sit is the most amazing, life changing answer you can hope for. People clutching their pearls and agonizing over the "shock collars" have usually never seen, much less felt one. They are based on the same science as a tens unit, used in physical therapy. You can raise or lower the pressure as needed for your dog, low pressure for non high distraction situations and raised for high distraction. This method, like anything; car, gun, knife, Twinkies, Ben and Jerry's....if in the wrong hands, can be abused and misused. Do I recommend buying one off the Internet and training on your own, heck no. But if you're here, reading this, your dog probably needs this style of training. Read the testimonials on Facebook, pick from the long list of happy clients willing to tell you about their experience or go get a consultation. Even if it's not right for your pet, it will help stop the misinformation. There are so many dogs saved from shelters and that are healthy members of society now because of this training. If even one dog missed out on this from hysterics spewing bad information, that would totally suck. My now 18 month old dog completed the 16 day immersion when he was 10 months old. It was life changing for him and our household. He is literally able to travel the world with us now. We dropped off our German shepherd, Luna who had very bad habits. She took their 12 Day Immersion Program and came back very well behaved. She no longer chases after rabbits and squirrels, pulls on the leash, or jump on people. Her trainer, Walker did an excellent job teaching Luna (and us) how to communicate with each other. We are no longer afraid to take her out on walks because she listens on command. The owner took the time to explain the program to us and we were pleased with the video updates and emails during the 12 days Luna was in training. We spent over $2,000 to leave our dog with them. At first we were so excited when we saw how well our dog was listening when we picked him up. I soon realized that the only reason our dog was listening was because he was TERRIFIED of that horrible shock collar. When you go in for a consultation, they tell you it doesn't hurt the dog at all and they even give you sample shock on your hand. No, the lowest level doesn't really hurt so you think it's no big deal. But then I went to one of their "free" classes, and proceeded to hear many of the other dogs yelping and crying when their owners pressed the button. It killed me to hear this. Every owner hitting that button to make their dog listen and then turning it up when they wouldn't. That thing HURTS SO BAD when you turn it up from the lowest level. I tried several levels on my hand and the pain actually made me cry. I don't know how or why this could possibly be okay. The dog is listening to you only because he or she is so scared. I hated this whole process. We threw the collar away immediately. Our dogs was scared of us for months after this experience. I would pay $2000 to remove this experience from all our lives. Im still traumatized by the whole thing several years later. read more

This is honestly the most positive dog place on the planet. The owners are friendly and honest, they help dogs on all levels and our dog was no exception. Jake was overly excited and needed help moving his energy in the right direction. Cole was his trainer and they instantly connected. The time invested was quality and getting the videos and emails about his progress was invaluable. 3 years ago we got a 50lb lab/ridgeback mix. He's an incredibly sweet pup who loves people, but had a bad habit of jumping of guests and not listening to us when he was excited. We let his bad habits slide because although it was annoying, it wasn't really hurting anyone. This summer we adopted an 80lb pibble. This big lug loves people, but wasn't so great with other animals. I was terrified thinking we made a huge mistake adopting a second dog and briefly thought about returning him to the rescue. Prior to the training I had very little hope for the newest addition to our family. I felt like a bad pet parent for adopting an aggressive dog and putting our other pup in danger. We kept them in separate rooms or on leashes at all times. It was not a fun way to live and my anxiety was through the roof. We signed the aggressive pup up for a 2 week board and train with Peter. Peter sent us updates and pictures almost daily. It was so reassuring seeing how happy our pup looked and knowing he hadn't eaten anyone! The two weeks flew by and the dog that was returned to us was a 180 from the dog we sent to training. He doesn't try to eat squirrels, is able to walk by other dogs on walks without losing his mind, and is less aggressive with our other pup! In fact, I cried during our first lesson after the board and train because I was just so happy with how well our big lug was doing. We still have a ways to go, but Peter has continued to be there for support. This was also the kick in the butt we needed to sign our other dog up for training. We chose private lessons and group lessons for our little guy. This week was the first time I was able to walk in the front door without 50lbs of puppy slamming into to me. My fiancé and I rescued a year old Rottweiler mix who had a history of aggression tied to resource guarding. With our dog's size and history, we wanted to be sure he would be responsive and obedient regardless of situation. After consulting with other trainers and facilities, we chose Sit Means Sit because of the involvement of training and the resources you can access following training. Our dog went to the 16 day immersion program and had Cole as his trainer. Cole was fantastic with our dog, kept in touch frequently to let us know what was being worked on and updated us with pictures and videos. Cole was able to pick up on our dog's personality quickly and develop a great rapport in order to complete the training. Following the immersion program, my fiancé and I completed our private lessons with Cole where he took the time to work on any concerns we had and fine tune our training with our dog.
