Since this place moved/re-named it's truly gone down hill. The things offered aren't as plentiful (it's a much smaller space, so it makes sense) but my number one complaint is that their hours are bizarre. They will just not be open sometimes, like today, a sunny Sunday. We like being able to support our local independent pet store, but we can no longer rely on them for our dog's food because they just decide to sometimes not open on Sundays, a day they have listed as open, or open late. So we decided today we are just ordering dog food online from now on. This has happened too many times to us now. We need reliability, and we don't have it here, sadly. read more

This is a review based off of the Temple of Groom which is affiliated with the shop. I took my senior dog in for a groom--this wasn't the first with this particular groomer. She had multiple health issues and was nearing the end of her life, and honestly, I regret that I had her groomed at that point. Our regular groomer there (who I am on the fence on whether to name) picked her up under her front legs without supporting her hind end, which you should never do with any dog, to begin with. This was obviously painful for her and so my pup nipped her. I apologized that she nipped her but that she needed to support her hind end when picking her up to lessen her pain. She was visibly annoyed that my dog nipped her. She later refused to groom her anymore, but said she would continue to groom my other dog. No way. I never went back, and regret that I ever took my senior girl to her, to begin with, as I'm sure there were other moments that I didn't witness that were not pleasant for my dog. Just be careful who you choose to groom your dog here. read more

Ok we've used this establishment for years its now called Temple of Groom. This review is about the grooming, I cant speak to the pet shop. The groomer we have used for years retired so we tried the new groomer Sherri for our Yorkshire Terrier. Sherri did a great job with Chloe's puppy cut. I highly recommend her. read more

We were excited to take our dog to visit Paws in the City for the first time. The storefront is well decorated and they carry some unique dog products. Unfortunately our visit was cut short by the cat roaming inside the store. While perfectly friendly, the cat served as a major distraction to our pup which precluded us from shopping at all. We were disappointed by this barrier to spending time in the store, but would like to try again in the future. read more

I've passed by this store several times and wanted to go in. I wish I didnt. The person working was not friendly. I was asking for advice and I felt like I was being an inconvenience because she was not interested in speaking to me. I love shopping downtown and expected this to be such a fun experience shopping for my new dog. I will be sticking to larger pet stores from now on. read more

This is in response to having a problem with their groomer...who i might add was very unprofessional. She stated after i was just a little late and in town I might add that she had a life too. This was said in response of my stating that no it was not okay to cancel him. This was the second time in a row that she did this. I came all the way from Damascus,M.D. Their owner obviously doesn't care...they have yet to return my call. So, evidently my money is not green enough. So, I will take my precious dog elsewhere. This is such a cute pet shop located right in historic Frederick. I was strolling along & saw it, and being the dog mom I ma, I had to stop in. First I must say the young lady who was working on 4/22/17 around 4pm was great. She was helpful and knowledgeable about all of the products I had questions about. Her customer service was on point. The store featured home made items, the really good leashes that you can place around you waist & a variety of doggy novelties. I definitely had to purchase the doggy beer. I have yet to tr it but will soon & see if my fur baby loves it. read more

I had a great experience with Sherri at Paws In The City. She was kind, and treated my rescue dog very well. The facility isn't fancy but the way they treated me and my dog far outweighs 'fancy.' I have a Mini Aussie. His cut was perfect! Highly recommend. read more

We walked into this store today and the cat urine stench was overwhelming. I'm usually a "don't make waves" type of person, but when my eyes started watering, I mentioned the smell to the person working. The response I got was "Yeah, we have a cat". We were in that store for 2 minutes before my son was coughing and I literally HAD to leave. As I said to the woman, I have a cat and a dog and I'm very tolerant of pet smells. This is a great store, I cannot say enough good things about it. The owners are awesome and have brought back the welcoming spirit that used to exist when Alison owned the store several years ago. The owners are active in, and support, the local community. My dog has a slght addiction to the Bare Bites that they sell. If you're in Downtown Frederick be sure to stop in, and if you're not in Downtown Frederick this store is reason enough to come and visit. read more

I was visiting Fredrick with my dog and we found Paws in the City- great food and treat selection- especially for the discerning dog owner that wants to feed their pet the best. I was recently at Paws in the City with my dog to buy him a treat. While there, the in-cat store attacked my dog whom was minding his own business. The dog wasn't hurt by any means but why have a cat in a pet store that doesn't like dogs? The store was also was also very dirty. Anyway my bf and I live an hour and a half away from the store and we accidentally left our car keys there. The woman behind the counter made no attempt to get our keys back to us. Once we realized our keys were gone the shop had closed. We luckily were able to get into contact with the owners wife who came to the store so we could get our keys. She at first told us "too bad" but then decided to come let us in. Once there she gave us a huge attitude about it. I'll be sure to never shop there again. read more

Sad that I have to give 1 star as I was looking forward to supporting this local business in my home town. I requested a quote through Yelp because my grandad's dog desperately needs a grooming and I wanted to be considerate in giving them a heads up on her condition- it's not horrible but it has been a while. I was told someone would get back to me shortly via telephone, this never happened and I had to call them. They explained their rates and told me they were booking a few weeks out. I took some time to think about it and call around, and decided to go with them. I called and left another message stating that I wanted to go ahead and make the appointment if someone could call me back- over a week later I haven't heard from them. I guess they decided this job was too complicated for them, which is a little humorous considering this is their job, but I will definitely be taking my business elsewhere. read more

Just had my Dutch Shepherd there. He's tricky, to say the least. A rescue still spooked by new people, with the potential to nip. Lisa handled him like a pro and cut every nail with calm and aplomb. I can't recommend Temple of Groom, Paws' grooming operation, enough. read more
