I want to share about the consistent care Highland has always provided. We have three furry family members, and seven total over the past 7 years*. Highland has seen them all. *It's worth mentioning that we cared for a few hospice and elderly dogs at the beginning. You can usually get an appointment within a week, but if it's an emergency they will squeeze you in. They also care for other animals. I've seen cats, birds, and ferrets in that lobby. My crew has had annual check ups, teeth cleaned, teeth removed, anal glands expressed here. I appreicate their love for our furry family and recommend them to others.

My current cat is also under his care and I can tell you from this many years of experience, he really cares about his pet patients. The staff is wonderful and caring and Katie gets lots of love on her visits. She is now 15+, with chronic kidney disease and blindness. She just spent 3 days in the hospital and the care she received while there was excellent. Her last labs before discharge were much improved from her intake labs. First and foremost, the young lady at the front desk (who was not Peggy) was kind, smiling, welcoming, and friendly with both her words and demeanor. She asked us to wait one moment while she checked out another customer, which was quick and easy, and immediately checked us in. We discussed the reason for our visit, and she happily took our pet to the back for her immunization. She returned a few minutes later with my pet and led us to an exam room so that Dr. Henderson could speak with us. There was no lengthy wait this time; Dr. Henderson was in the room within two minutes. She went over my pet's health, reason for our pet's visit, and asked if we had any other questions regarding our pet's health or the visit in general, of which I didn't have any. Dr. Henderson then apologized for the events of our last visit. She reassured me that the new office manager had been informed of the events, and instituted changes that should prevent any further issues in the future. To be fair, it appeared to me that these changes were effective considering the night-day difference between our last visit only two weeks ago and now. Dr. Henderson offered me an opportunity to speak with the manager myself, to which I declined, and commented that our visit today was a completely different experience from our previous visit. I thanked her for the opportunity, and that was the end of our interaction. Checkout was super quick and easy, and the bill was much MUCH better this time, and on par with previous billing for the same type of visit. I hope that this experience is the new standard at Paradise: A friendly, professional, and welcoming front desk; adherence to appointment times with little or no waiting (things do happen, it's understandable. But minimize the impact on other appointments); a quick, no-nonsense appointment with an awesome, knowledgeable, friendly and personable veterinarian; comparable and competitive pricing for services. I went to the Augusta Humane Society on Monday to adopt two older cats. When we came there we saw several cats outside and inside running around and just being cats/kittens. My heart was ready to adopt. Now it smelled like animals/stinky and I could tell that they had a very small budget, so please donate to this place. As we talked to the very friendly lady we realized that we were not "eligible" to adopt the older cats. The primary reason was our intentions were to declaw them in the front. The lady told me to "do the research" on declawing kittens/cats. She told me several times that not only did the Vet at the Humane Society not approve in declawing but one other local vet did not either. We were also told that other states like Maryland had laws that it was illegal. She also said it was illegal in many places overseas. So I did the research. The reason this against declawing even came up was from the Big Cats. Meaning, declawing exotic or native wild cat species. I did my research and found out Georgia HAS NO LAWS about this and this woman and her vet did not want to let anyone adopt these poor animals if they thought you would declaw. I have had cats who lived INSIDE the house for 21 years and they were declawed. Yes, I am saddened that this place have placed their own "opinions" over the needs of the animals. Too many animals need a loving home and sadly again, depending on the vets opinion, not Georgia legal laws, many will not ever find a home. Sad, sad, sad.

In the last three…read moreyears I've spent probably thousands of dollars and many trips to the vet for various cat ailments and check ups. Some in Pennsylvania and some here in the CSRA. At almost all of them I've been disappointed in the cost and lack of expense disclosure before a service is done, but it's also just a hassle to get scheduled for things that aren't super emergent but also can't wait for a month. CSRA Life Saver is a low cost preventative vet clinic. That means they do not treat sick animals, and they can't prescribe much other than some preventative flea/tick/heart worm medicines and dewormers. What they DO offer is walk in appointments (they do not schedule ahead except for spay/neuter surgeries), vaccines, microchips, pet health maintenance (like ear mite cleaning, deworming, nail trims, etc). Their prices are listed clearly online and in the office, and they require that you fill out a form ahead of time and clearly mark which services you want that day. When you arrive, you fill that out first (or you can print it at home and bring it in) then go in to the desk and sign in. By the number of chairs I saw, the wait can get long at times but both times I've been so far there was very little wait. Because they do minimal services, appointments don't last very long and they can see a lot of people. Their prices are the lowest I've found by a LOT and they seem interested in just doing what they can to help animals and owners in a timely manner. The office itself is pretty simple- it's an old house type building converted to an office. There is some indoor waiting room area but many chairs on the porch for overflow. I did not accompany my cat into the exam room and didn't see other owners do that either, so just be ready for that. They take cards and cash. The only issue I've had is the microchip I got on my kitten seems to have moved from the shoulder blade location I assumed they inserted it at, but I think that's more likely my kitten being a little underweight for his age (a recent stray we took in). I wish they had mentioned prior to the microchipping that you can't bathe the animal for a few days, and now with the movement of the chip I wish I'd waited to get that done til they neuter him or something but it's too late now. Overall, the prices cannot be beat and they offer helpful guidance on saving money and getting what's best for your pet.
