All paws way up for the grooming parlor at Petco El Monte! My chihuahua dachshund mix Darby was due for a routine nail trim and gland expression - but thanks to my getting sick for a week followed by another week of heat waves, we couldn't make it out to our usual groomers. Since I met up with a friend for lunch in the area, I called in and they were able to accommodate Darby same-day! Shout-out to Emily for helping Darby when I misunderstood the conversation and accidentally brought him in "by 4:30" instead of "at 4:30" like instructed, oops! :) There was a short wait time for grooming since team members needed help at the register, so I walked around the store while waiting. The registers seemed a bit short-staffed for a busy Saturday, but it's good to see families picking up supplies for a new aquarium and good treats for their pups. I myself stocked up on some smelt fish treats that I usually add to Darby's meals. While waiting for Darby, I passed by the betta fish (of which I also have one) and some seem very lively and others more lethargic. Check clearly if you are in the market for a male betta. The fish supplies though, like Fluval's aquarium stratum for plants and Hikari pellets, are well stocked. read more

I bought two geckos earlier today and they died on me and when I went back, not even for a refund or for new geckos, the manager kicked me out of the store and said I can no longer buy geckos there. I wouldn't recommend going to this Petco at all everybody there is rude very insensitive, especially the manager. read more

I am new dog owner its been a wonderful experience, I took my puppy Miso for grooming at Petco El Monte and the staff was wonderful very patient for a nervous dog (and mommy) I decided to take the puppy lessons and has been a blessing! Miso has learned so much with his trainer Joseph! he graduated to advanced classes! he gets happy every time he sees Joseph who is a very caring and gentle soul, he really cares about the dogs and their parents explaining every step and every lesson we couldn't asked for a better trainer!!! thanks to all the people working at Petco El Monte!!!!!!! read more

Alright, from a glance this doesn't seem like too bad of a Petco location seeing that there's a lot to offer for our 4 legged furry friends (dogs & cats) and I do like that Petco has a wider variety than what I've seen at PetSmart more or less. BUT. Being a new lizard mom, I wanted to check out the supply of feeder insects since, according to their app and online site, they have a wider variety than PetSmart, mainly the black soldier larvae flies and dubia roaches. I wanted to get these here instead of going out of my way to a reptile specialty store or ordering them online. The reptile section was abysmal. Many of the feeders were dead and desiccated, mainly the dubia roaches. Looking through the meal worms, lots have pupated and are seemingly dead. Even found cobwebs all over the reptile products, prices weren't updated to reflect prices online. I didn't feel comfy buying anything after that... read more

Avoid the grooming department! I usually drive further away to PetsSmart Grooming and I decided to take my two dogs here since it's down the street from my home. I was never called that my dogs were ready for pick up . I came to pick them up and the cashier ( who was so rude btw and needs to learn how to be professional) told me the groomer left for the day and she doesn't know when they were ready for pick up . I asked how long my dogs were in there for and she didnt know . I had to assume they were ready apparently! I asked why I wasn't called and they said they don't call . The customers receive text messages . Which I never received a text message . They verified the phone number on file which was an old phone number of mine and my new number was given to them at drop off and they said it will take 10 days for my new number to be in their system . So if you knew my new phone number wasn't going to update in your system , then why didn't no one CALL me? It's a simple courtesy call to say " hey your dogs are ready " . Pets Smart always calls me when my dogs are ready. One of my dogs has horrible anxiety & this is unacceptable. I ended up speaking to a supervisor ( who also didn't have customer service etiquette) I didnt even get an apology and was a waste of time . I paid $200 for this and I'm so disappointed in Petco and this is why I'll never come back to this grooming place again . You need to show your employees how to be professional. And now one of my dogs eye is closing and smaller than the other one so idk what they did to her . read more

I have taken my dog Graham to grooming for the past 3 visits. We at first enjoyed our groomer Julie. It's a bit confusing when the name of the groomer doesn't match who is actually performing the service. At first it didn't bother me but after teetering between Kelly and Julie (actually having Julie for the first 3 visits) for the 4th time I was disappointed to get a stranger. When I came to pick up my dog Kelly was not present to go over the grooming service (something I was used to getting from Julie). My dog currently has a scrape on his paw, I was hoping to get feedback on his behavior. Before the appointment started, I asked Kelly about the upgraded package that I paid 10-20 more for and she assured me that all products used would be free of fragrance. Unfortunately my dog has the cologne/ scent he's gotten in the past. I was hoping for no fragrance due to me getting an allergic reaction from it and my dog also has skin sensitivities. I wish Julie was still employed and I hope I can find a groomer with more care for their clients. To end on a positive note IsIs was very helpful at pick up when I asked for at home pet nail grinders. She recommended 2 products and explained why they were reputable + good quality. read more

Waited 20 minutes for someone to help us with grooming. No one was there and had to go ask someone to help us. Went to go pick him up and had to wait 20 minutes for someone to help us again. He came home with a cut right by his eye. We tried calling the location and of course, no answer. He is a very timid and not aggressive at all. In the comments, it says that he was yelled at by a German Shepard?? Not sure what that even means. Do not recommend coming to this location at all. I didn't know there was a Petco so close to me, until I took advantage of their order online + pick up offer a few weeks back. I placed my order online, and within 10 minutes I had already received the message that my order was ready for pick up. Sweet. Upon entering the store, the associates here were quick to help and assist me with my pickup order. They didn't make me feel rushed and even talked to me about my animals (2 cats) and trust me, I love talking about my cats! Haha - I mean, which pet parent doesn't enjoy talking about their pets, right? It's kind of hidden inside this plaza, so if you don't choose to go into the plaza and explore what they have, chances are you won't know it's there. Worst vaccine experience ever. For the clinic area, there is not private room. The only thing is a table and several rude employees. They treat my cat like prisoner and the entire process was like punish. The force my cat to move his belly up and if he doesn't comfortable with it that he tried to revolt, the nurse will press my cat body using her entire body. I was trying to comfort my cat and I try to help and the other employee prohibit me. The doesn't allow me to comfort and pet my cat in the store and just put him back to the carrier and ask us to leave. Anyway, I don't recommended anyone to do vaccines here and I used to shop with Petco often and I will never do again! read more

Please avoid the grooming services at this location as best as you can- doesn't matter what service you want through the app when you get into the store they always say the price just went up and this is the new rate for your dog- they are very sneaky to tell you that your dog is difficult to incorporate for haircut since they don't have the stabilize equipment but they charge you a extra $45 for cutting one area where they insist to add the extra package. Very sneaky and dishonest, all they want is to get out the most from your pocket instead of truly hearing what you actually want. Reported to the customer service but not helpful at all. I've been coming here for this Petco's training classes for the past year. I adopted a dog, who came with some issues in May 2021, since my dog was surrendered by his owner. Since I knew that I needed support to train my newly adopted dog, I immediately signed up for Petco's adult package that included Beginner, Intermediate and AKC classes. For the past 11 months, the trainer for the training program, Joseph, has been such a great help! He is knowledgeable and patient. When others may have been quick to label my dog as "bad," Joseph has been positive about the progress that my dog has been making. He has offered practical tips and lessons to take home and practice. As a result, I have seen great improvements in my dog. My dog loves working with Joseph. After completing the adult package classes, we even signed up for private classes with Joseph, to focus on specific issues that my dog needs help with. Notably, California has recently passed some laws on selling dogs, cats, and I think rabbits. To deal with this, Petco has started to leverage its relationships with shelters in the area, to facilitate adoptions. This is actually a smart move, considering if you adopt an animal here, well... You're very close to the store where you need to buy all of the extra stuff you will need to make your pet's life happy. Not a dog or puppy to be found in the store, but there is a small display featuring some adoptable cats and kittens. Cute little critters. Plenty of fish, including freshwater and saltwater varieties. A tarantula or two, some bearded dragons... Honestly, people who are actually into reptiles probably don't buy their pets here, but if you are a novice, this is a good place to start. Today 9/9/21 called their grooming department early in the morning when they opened and asked If I could please take my 11 year old Chihuahua to get a bath, nails trimmed. Walk-in no appointment. She had been shedding excessively for weeks and needed a shampoo treatment ASAP. I spoke to a very nice guy over the phone and he allowed me to take her in. Only thing he asked was to take updated rabies vaccine card. Received excellent customer service, my dog was happy and her shedding stopped plus she smells so good. The employees here were friendly but I was not happy with how they handled an online order placed - in short the item was used/opened and I could only get store credit - not credit back to my card. I will no longer be placing online orders with petco and will not be returning to this location. I came to pick up an online order for a friend. We confirmed with the store beforehand that I am able to pick up the item for my friends order. The employee handed me the product (dog advent calendar) with 3/12 holes punched out - it is clear this item was used or tampered with. He didn't address it and I noticed while walking out. This upset me a but I let it go and went back in to ask for a replacement since the product was opened. He checks for the replacement and tells me this was the last one and he can offer a refund to any card (I made clear I was picking up an order for my friend so I did not have the the original card with me). After trying multiple times, the refund doesn't go through. I ended up taking store credit because it seemed like they didn't know what else to do and were stuck. Came in for a walk-in for a nail trim for my dog. It was our first time having a service at petco and it was pretty good. My dog doesn't like to have the leash/collar thing over his head and I let them know so they very carefully and slowly got it over him. They didn't give him a hard time about it and were patient with him. He's a spoiled brat with lots of fur. She did trim one of his nails too deep (into his quick) and he started to bleed but she put styptic on to stop the bleeding. Took my 2 year old daughter to the store yesterday to purchase a tank and a goldfish. She was so excited to get her first tank and another fish. She had won a fish at the temple city festival this past weekend so we were getting another fish so that her fish at home could have a friend. We go and find a tank for the fish. It was a 2.5 or 3 gal tank that's a combo with a filter and light etc. Everything came included. We go over to the aquarium and pick out a fish She wanted. Long story short the employee and manager named Brandon refused to sell us a fish because they wanted us to get a 10gal tank and up. I'm not sure if this is Petcos policy or if it's their tactic to upsell product but that did not make sense to me. The reason that didn't make sense is becuase the stores tank housed a couple hundred gold fish in a maybe 10 gal tank. There were fish already dead in the tank. Probably 10 or 20 fishes dead with the other fishes that are swimming. So for them to refuse to sell us a fish because the tank we were also purchasing was to them to small is BS. We would likely have given the fish a better chance of survival becuae we were only keeping 2 fish together and they were probably less than a half inch in size. Of course once they got bigger we would move them to a bigger tank but having us buy one right away didn't make sense. We left the store not buying anything becuase we were so upset. My daughter left distraught and the whole experience was just horrible. Won't be coming back to this store after that experience. The managers name is Brandon with purple hair that refused to sell us a fish unless we bought a bigger tank. Not sure if that's petcos policy or he's just trying to upsell their product but they need to do better. read more

I went to this store Sunday evening. When I arrived in the store I had to use the restroom. i walked to the back of the store not knowing the bathroom door needed to be unlocked, so I called my wife to ask her if she could please see if there was a key for the restroom. She asked the clerk who told her she would send someone. I had to use the restroom really bad, and I paced back and forth in aisle waiting for someone to come 5 mins pass and still no one, my wife asked a dog trainer if he had a key, he tells her no and she has to ask the cashier. She told him she did and he said oh well someone will be right there. About two minutes pass and I walk to the front at this point irritated because I needed to really go to the restroom. I asked her is anyone ever coming to open the door i've been standing there holding my pee for almost 10 mins. The store wasn't busy either so no excuse. She goes yes and sends a page throughout the store which she never did the first time. Finally the boy who works at the store comes over and I tell him that it was unacceptable they had a customer waiting that long and he goes it's not my fault I didn't know you needed to use the restroom. i was one expressing to him my frustrations of standing there waiting. I proceed to tell him it doesn't matter it's unacceptable for someone to wait that long and no one having a sense of urgency. At this point he is going back and forth with me, telling me he doesn't have to open the door, and continuing to say girl it's not my fault you waited for the restroom. Finally after he stops running his mouth he opens the door and snarky like says "you're welcome" and I returned back a color word. I go into the restroom no tissue i had to use the hard brown paper towels as tissue. I come out and Steven another store clerk waiting for me near the restroom starts walking behind me asking me what happen. I told him it was unacceptable i had to ask three separate times for someone to open the bathroom and I still waited 10 mins. Then the other guy comes in you said the f word to me i'm human, but he wasn't playing the victim when he was arguing with me. As i'm looking for my wife Steven continues to follow behind me and ask me to leave the store and I did absolutely nothing wrong. I got ignored by some big guy with glasses and another skinny white dude (cashier) he just left me waiting there .. wasting my time. This is a review solely on my Petco grooming experience on 12/24/18. Let's start off by saying that Stephanie is the saving grace of this review. She was so helpful and nice that she alone made me want to come back again. So I had scheduled an appointment for bath/haircuts for two of my Pomeranians, the appointment was scheduled for 12/24/18 which I confirmed several times with the person on the phone, when I went in that day the appointment had magically been scheduled for Sunday 12/23/18 instead of Monday 12/24/18. Stephanie was more than accommodating and took my dogs in, she even threw in some stuff for the inconvenience. Onto the actual haircut, I had two different stylists for each of my dogs. One stylist was Stephanie who took care of my brown pom (did a great job), the other one was Natalia who took care of my white pom (. . .) . I came into the store 3 hours after I had dropped off my dogs and I could see through the glass that they were getting their haircuts. Brown pom was doing great, however white pom on the other hand I had to watch her scream each time Natalia kept jerking on her back legs. I had specifically made sure to tell them to put into their notes that she has some pain in her back legs so that they could be more careful with them. Needless to say I was pretty mad but decided to give Natalia the benefit of the doubt. An hour later my poms were ready to be picked up and Stephanie took great care of me and even recommended some joint pain treats for my dog. However, upon coming home and doing a full body inspection of the white pom, I noticed that a small piece of her inner right ear had been cut off while on the left ear she had started to developed a rash. Went to purchase 3 fish for my girls tanks. Met Ely who was so helpful and very knowlegeable about all the fish. He spoke to my 8 yo twins about their new purchases and got them more excited about their new pets. Excellent customer service. He is a young associate but as I stood waiting in line, I see him restocking shelves, helping with fish purchases and when he glanced over to see that the lines at cashier were long, he quickly came over and opened up another register. As a business owner, this is one employee one would look to be a manager one day. Great role model! I look forward to making this our families petstore of choice. read more

Very rude customer service very bad don't recommend this place won't be coming back again

Dropped my pup off at 9:15 am for a grooming appointment that normally takes at most 3 hours. Once it hit the 4 hour mark, I was concerned and decided to call and ask when he would be ready. I had to call 3 times before someone finally answered the phone. On the phone, they said it would be another 40 minutes. After 40 minutes, I walked into the store, and was told another 30 minutes. At this point, it had been 5 hours since I dropped him off. After the additional 30 minutes, I hadn't received a call, so I went in to talk to a manager. I asked the first associate at the register, and he claimed to be the manager (not sure if he was, though. Don't managers wear name tags?) He went to the grooming area and came back and said it would be an additional 30 minutes. He made it seem like it was me and my pup's fault for it taking too long based on the type of cut I wanted on him, even though I've been there multiple times for the exact same cut. He told me I can either take him mid-cut, or wait the ridiculous amount of time. I left and had to have arrangements made to have him picked up at a later time. After another hour, they called and said he was ready for pick up. My boyfriend got there to pick him up, but they were STILL working on him. We paid money for a "special" (schnauzer) hair cut, and it turned out really bad. He paid for nail trimming/buffing and his nails were not short or buffed out at all. They were still cleaning his paws right before they gave him to my boyfriend. If he's not ready, don't charge me for what they didn't do. The best service that we received was from an associate named Brandon, who rang my boyfriend up and gladly answered all questions as to who to get in contact with about the situation. Never again am I going to this location, and I will never recommend this place to any of my fellow pet owners. The one star is for Brandon, and Brandon alone. read more
