I took my Pomeranian here for a $75 haircut and bath, plus an extra $25 for a longer cut to protect his undercoat. Despite my clear instructions, they gave him a very short cut that could damage his coat. The grooming was sloppy, choppy, and uneven with long pieces around his ears and one paw left untouched. While his tail looked nice, his rear was uneven, and the whole process took four hours. They made me pay before seeing him and tried upselling nail trimming, which is supposed to be included. He is such an awesome groomer! He does everything I ask for and my dog always comes back smelling fresh. Quick, friendly, skilled, consistent, gentle, and affordable are qualities I look for in a groomer and Modern Pooch has it all. I have no trouble scheduling a last minute weekend appointment here. What I noticed they don't do is put a bandana or bow on my dog after grooming like most places. To be honest that's something I don't care for. I have a ton of those from other grooming salons just collecting dust at home. As long as Modern Pooch keeps up the good work and affordability, I will keep coming back. The salon is located in Tito's Plaza on the side where the pharmacy is. They don't have an overhead storefront sign but there is signage on the window. read more

Wow! The price has increased tremendously this year. My pug is considered a large size dog :/. I am a loyal customer who came here since when they first opened at the old location. I was paying initially $30 which includes brushing teeth. It was additional $5 for brushing teeth. Then it increased to $35 (not too bad). A few months after it increased to $40. Then a couple months later it has increased to $50. The price has increased 3 times in less than a year. It is ridiculous!! So to do a regular bath it will cost me $50 for my pug and $10 additional for brushing his teeth. The $50 does not include applying paw balm and nose balm. This service was still included a month ago. Suddenly, the price increased and they take away the included services that I was paying for in years. You have lost a loyal customer. I am not coming back here anymore. I do not like the new management. They charge you much more and make you pay for every little service that was supposed to be included originally. It's hard for me to trust a new groomer with my baby cause I always hear horror stories of dogs getting mistreated. Had to find a new groomer cause my original groomer fell ill and it was impossible to get an appointment with him when he returned. Found this groomer nearby and decided to give them a try. Gabriel has been initially helping me with my baby. Super friendly, professional and helpful. They recently moved to a bigger location which I'm happy they're expanding a little. Their last location was cramped but this new location was very spacious. It is required to have a rabies certificate but other vaccines were not checked upon such as bordetella. They do text you your confirmation of your appointment and often would receive a thank you text. I love that I'm often able to call in and schedule an appointment either same day or next day. I also love that they now offer a package deal whereas before I believe it was based off of what services you would like and the size of your pet. I love how my baby came back looking and smelling so good and felt so soft. The only bad experience I had was his first grooming appointment with them, they performed a sanitary shave on my corgi and left a bunch of razer burns on him. Nothing to major but I no longer ask for sanitary shaves. It was also funny cause they shaved his anal area (hes a corgi) and it just looked so funny because his starfish was exposed. Also their pricing wasn't stable at first. My first visit, I paid $31 for a bath&brush for my corgi. My next few visits, it became $36 which I didn't question but I wasn't notified why I was charged more. Another experience I had was when they had a black out at their old location. I never received a call or a text that they needed to reschedule my appointment UNTIL I got there for my appointment. Luckily, Gabriel apologized and accommodated me the following morning at 9am. 10 mins after my original appointment, I receive a call from them telling me that they had a blackout and need to reschedule but I had already told her I just arrived and had rescheduled already. Then maybe 2-3 minutes later, they call me again (a different female) to tell me the same thing. Seems like a lot of miscommunication but otherwise I havent had bad experiences with them since. read more

Good groomers/open on Sunday. I have a super hyper pooch so finding a good groomer is hard! Price is good! Service is good. Parking- its in a small shopping center so plenty of parking! Appointment- I called in day of, and was able to score an appointment within 1 hour of me calling!!! Vaccination- have a picture of rabies, vaccinations etc. Pick up- there is a 45 min grace period to pick up your pooch. So plan accordingly. Service- I got the basic wash and excess trimming. Great job! Price is good too I payed about 50 bucks. Ps. Only sad part is I wish they gave bandanas/bows but not a deal breaker! read more

He is unable to sit and becomes aggressive when touched in that area. I don't understand why I wasn't informed that he was nicked. Fast services and open during this weird limited-business-hours pandemic time. I brought in my 15 year old and 1 year old dogs in for their first groomer-performed nail trims. Made an appointment same day, 2 hours after initial text. Parking: private lot inside Tito's Plaza. The Modern Pooch sign is hard to see, but it's right in between La Flor Mexicana and the massage parlor on the east side of the plaza On arrival, 2 staff members were working; they greeted and took my 1st pup in immediately, then the next right after. Both dogs were done in less than ten minutes and they didn't cut into the quick (their "fingers"). There was some buffing done on a few, and I'm glad they took the time, lest the claws splinter afterward from an uneven cut. Overall, what a relief to have their claws cut by a pro rather than chasing or secretly clipping them in their sleep. The staff were very kind about the mess my younger pup made. (I'm sorry! If you love your pets, please think twice before going to this groomer. After an accident that my pet had while being groomed, and a very expensive vet bill later- I asked to view the video of the session just to understand how it happened. You would not like to see how your pet is handled under the care of these "groomers". Employees lack the appropriate experience or temperament to handle a stressed animal appropriately . The groomer reacted with aggressive handling and looked stressed themselves. When asked why they didn't call us when she got hurt - their answer was _ " she was almost done" wow so finishing up and moving on to the next dog was more important than the well being of our pet. I would much rather they stopped called us to inform us of the situation and asked how we would like to proceed . While viewing the video their only concern was making sure they stated every reason why they were not liable and placing blame on the pet and customer. Hmmm as a business owner - shouldn't your concern be the safety of the pet and compassion for your customers and learning how you can make the experience better for everyone involved? Instead they made us curious how many other times our pet suffered while in their care and what their employee training requirements were. I have used other groomers before and she has never reacted this way ... and now I know why. My dogs will NEVER ever go back and I hope that your dogs don't have the same experience. read more

This trimmer hurt my puppy really bad in three places and I'm really upset, he has careless razor burns and cuts all over his bottom and groin area he can barely sit down now. It's super sad, we had to put a cone on him in order for him to stop licking the wounds. When I spoke to Trimmer he said it happens all the time and if it was "that bad" he would have caught it. Wow really, my dog can't even sit on his behind and cries all night, he is now weary of anyone and doesn't let us touch him. Don't bring your babies here, this man doesn't give a damn. Dogs are just money to him and goes through them like hamburgers at Mc Donald's. SMH read more

I was extremely worried taking my dog to a new groomer due to my dog's temperament and anxiety. I'm glad to have be recommended to Modern Pooch since I would normally take him to my local vet but due to covid grooming wasn't available. My dog is an older medium sized poodle/terrier mix and went with the following package. Dog wash, drying, cleaning of the ears, expressing anal glands (unless specified not to do it), the paw balm that is an extra $5 dollar service. All in total I paid $56 ($1 card fee). He had his appointment at 8 am and Gabriel was able to take me 4 minutes early and by 8:45 am I was told he was ready! I was so impressed on the timing of it all since my dog had very long curly and semi matted hair. I want to say thank you Gabriel and staff for taking in Spotty. Spotty is a difficult dog that moves a lot and has a temper. This is why I would return and recommend Gabriel! read more

Charged $100 for a haircut & nail trimming for a small/medium sized dog only to cut her and leave her hair butchered then trying to hide it with a bandana. We were so excited that this new dog grooming place opened up so close to us. Our dog is regularly groomed at a different groomer, but thought we would try out Modern Pooch in South El Monte. When we picked her up our dog seemed terrified and we had to get her from under a table. We hadn't noticed the butchered hair cut and where they nicked her until we got home. I understand accidents happen, but they should have told us instead of trying to hide it with a bandana. I will NEVER take any of my pets there ever again. From another negative review I saw below: apparently instead of being sympathetic for cutting someone's dog, the owner likes to make excuses for awful work! I am the one who requested the short cut not the workers recommending it per her response. "The cut is not choppy', I'm sorry if you actually look at the photo you can see the cut is NOT even! Instead of trying to fix the issue, they are creating larger problems. I'm sure the better business bureau would agree that injuring someone's pet and not notifying the owner is not standard/good practices. I went to this place a few months ago. I called and asked about nail trim and grinding. I was quoted $5 and I thought wow what a steal. I asked if he had time for my 2 dogs and he said yes to bring them in ASAP. I arrived shortly after and there were 2 young men. They performed the service and when it was time to pay I was charged $20. I told him I called and was quoted $5. He said he knew but he quoted me the wrong price. I was pretty annoyed that he KNEW he quoted me the wrong price yet when I got there he didn't tell me this before they performed the service. I felt stuck but the young man said I could pay $15. I paid the $15 and left. When I got home I noticed they did a horrible job with the grinding. Both of my dogs nails looked sloppy. The top part of their nails had been grinded including the area near their fur and base of the nail. It made no sense to me that they would grind the top part of their nails. Some of my dogs nails were also sharp which leads me to believe they also skipped some of the nails. I was in disbelief that a place with such wonderful reviews would leave my dogs looking like that. Our usual groomer was booked and my boyfriend booked an appointment for our two girls at modern Pooch. we had been to their old location so I decided to give it a try again and when we got there I was going off their website prices and we ended up paying $170 for two small dogs and I messaged them the day after and they told me they were going to get back to me and it's been a week and they still have not gotten back to me about anything l. I don't think it's fair that they have one price online and then they just charge you another price at the location. 30 minutes after I picked them up I got a call that they accidentally nicked my dog but that she didn't even cut her skin or anything and I trusted their word but now a week later I am brushing my little dogs hair and I see a big scab on her armpit and I don't think that's OK they should've told me when I was there instead of calling me 30 minutes later. read more
