I tried another trainer and the methods didn't work but Tonja came in, assessed the issues, explained why Betsy felt the need to take over as leader, gave me exercises and non-physical corrections to use and Betsy is even better than her old self! Going in I knew that I was the one needing training and made the commitment to both of us to do as told and I'm so happy I did! Tonja doesn't sugar coat things but she isn't rude either. While I appreciate that, I suspect the person who left a one-star review who also owns a small dog wasn't wanting to hear what she really needed to hear and didn't really want to put in the time to make her ankle biter less yappy! Dogs behave similarly regardless of size and I'm as guilty as any for letting a tiny one get by with more than I have with my larger dogs. It's been 3 weeks now and we are still doing our exercises and continue to be better all the time when out for walks and seeing other dogs. For the first time in a long time, she'll calmly lay in my lap! I've also used Tonja for boarding Betsy and it's the first time she has been boarded that she ate while I was gone and came back rested and relaxed! Love Mystic Moon and everything Tonja stands for and does!

Tonja and her husband Chuck are truly the greatest things since sliced bread! We adopted a 1 year…read moreold terrier mix named Chico that had very little training when we got him. He came from a home with a lot of other dogs and so he was very anxious/aggressive around other dogs. When he would see another dog, his hair would stand up, he would growl, and would drag us towards the dog when we were walking him outside. We tried to do training on our own with no success. When we started looking up dog trainers, we couldnt believe the prices. $100 an hour? We can't afford that. What if it takes 12 hours? That's a lot of money. Although Chico is worth it, we just couldn't fathom spending that kind of money. We continued searching and came across Mystic Moon. They were affordable and had top notch reviews, so we decided to give them a try. Sunday came around and we anxiously pulled up to our first class praying that he didn't attack another dog or something. As we walked in, he was pulling us, growling, barking, and jumping. Tonja walked over and told us to put a training collar on him and directed us to seats that were a little away from the group so that he could calm down and we could try to train him without distractions. Now, fast forward to week 4 (4 hours total of training classes and doing the homework that Tonja and Chuck assigned us every week)...he is a completely different dog. Chico is no longer the aggressive dog he was before. He doesn't bark, pull, or growl when another dog comes around. His hair no longer stands up and he seems to have more confidence. When we started this journey, we had little hope. Everyone told us that based on his past and his breed, he will more than likely always be aggressive and that he might get better when he gets older. I truly thank God every day that we came across Mystic Moon. Chico is quickly becoming the dog we have hoped he would be and we are quickly becoming the parents that he needs and deserves. If you need someone to help you train your dog, look no further. Tonja and Chuck are the real deal.

I have had other in home trainers in the past and definitely would recommend Clint over anyone else. We had Clint in our home for I believe six in home sessions for our year old German Shepherd rescue, Konah. We adopted Konah at 8 months after she was abandoned by her original owners. We did not have a lot of information on her upbringing. She started exhibiting concerning behaviors every time we had guests over, she would not stop barking, she also had lunged at and nipped at a few guests - which can be really scary for a guest to have a 70 lbs German Shepherd lunge at them. She would also freak out on walks anytime we walked past other people, especially if they had a dog as well. In general at home, Konah is such a great dog, she is a huge cuddle bug and sweet as can be. She also excelled at two different group training basic obedience classes, so we were really not sure how to stop these fear based behaviors with guests and strangers. Clint was a huge help!! He provided us with tools and support and was very responsive to any emails when we had questions and concerns for Konah. He would go on walks with us to observe her behavior. He was very kind and polite to us and very understanding. He provided us with great insight into what was happening with our usually sweet as can be pup. She still has a lot of work to do, but I wouldn't hesitate to ask for his help again. It is not a miracle solution for your dog and you will have to be willing and patient to put in a lot of work with difficult behaviors!

When I adopted him, I was told he was terrified of men. Clint immediately knew how to act and make himself less intimidating so that my dog could feel comfortable around him. He also gave me some awesome training tips. It takes discipline on my part as well, but my dog has gotten so much better and it only took two sessions. He even knows hand signals to sit and lay down. I highly recommend!

This large facility has either 3 or 4 large (rectangular) rings with a different class being given in each. There are a few daytime classes, but most are in the evening. All of the instructors are dedicated, experienced, and knowledgeable volunteers who must love working with all breeds of dogs and their owner/handlers, as evidenced by their patience and understanding of the many dog training challenges. My dog also took basic obedience and the Canine Good Citizenship class which upon completion, he and 6 of the 7 the other dogs in the class passed on test day. My only criticism of this class is that we trained with treats the whole time, but the class before the test, we were told treats were not allowed by the AKC certified tester. (If we were told before, I must have been in denial.) This made a huge difference in my dog's willingness to listen to my commands once he realized there wasn't going to be any "pay/reward". I worked with him the week before the test giving him treats randomly as the instructor had suggested, but I feel that transition could and should have been emphasized and practiced more during the previous classes. DMOTC is still a terrific place for a wide variety of classes for your dog and I plan to continue taking my dog to their classes. They are also more affordable than other private for-profit dog training schools. We are lucky to have this established club in our community.

We decided to try DMOTC because it was closer than our previous trainer- Rover's Ranch. Signed up for puppy class. What a waste of time. Not only will you spend 45 minutes trying to listen to someone read a page of information to you, with two other classes going on at the same time, but she will only pause briefly periodically to let you try something occasionally with your dog. Useful things for good dog behavior like scooting their butt back while in down position or doing high fives (versus walking on a leash or good solid recalls) There is absolutely no socializing of your puppy with any of the other puppies in the class. One woman had a puppy that had not been around other dogs. It was trying to play, but no one was allowed to let dogs off leashes and people were encouraged to leave as soon as class was over. No playing-little, if any, interaction between people and other dogs or any actual skills the dog might need. We stopped going as it wasn't worth the time. If you are new to owning a dog or want your puppy to have experience with other dogs, save your money and look elsewhere.
