I've been taking my cat to Smitten Kitten for 4 years for grooming. They have two locations; one in DSM and one in Ankeny. I screwed up our last appointment and thought I booked in DSM, but really I booked in Ankeny. I was so bummed because 1) the wait to get into Smitten Kitten is long and 2) I didn't want to lose my hefty deposit ($70) Their employee, Carrigan was so helpful & she helped me get things straightened out and was able to reschedule me:-) After I expressed that it was a human error(on my part) and I wasn't just a no show, Carrigan was helpful and professional about communicating with the owner and myself. Smitten Kitten is great. I've taken my cat here numerous times to get her nails done and a few times to get a bath. You need to schedule online for all grooming, but it's super easy and affordable. My cat is always so soft after her baths and I love it when they do nail caps on her nails. The staff are always friendly and ready to help. I even got a Christmas surprise box for my cat one year and it was filled with treats and toys. She loved the little tube treats so much that they've become her go-to treat. I did board my kitties together once at Smitten Kitten. I felt like the prices were affordable and they gave me a live stream so I could check in on them any time. I moved to NYC and I am so sad because I constantly think about how amazing this groomer was. I still have yet to find another groomer that will do a teddy bear cut. I love this style so much it makes him look like such a little baby. He was so soft too. Finding a cat only groomer is also so hard. A cat store in DSM?!? Only the best news Ive found out since moving to the area a couple months ago. The owner(?) or whoever was working was phenomenal and a total cat mom - that energy is so real haha I have two bigger boys and have a hard time finding cat beds that fit them. Smitten Kitten had a wide variety of beds and all at reasonable "boutique" pricing! So the boys were able to get a xmas gift and have been so happy with it. They have a great variety of food, treats, toys, beds, litter, and some fun gadgets. Im pretty sure they do grooming as well! This only became an issue once. I complained about them being inconsistent with with their reminder calls. Then it became and issue with having Miss Priss groomed but before that they didn't bring it up. Weird how something becomes an issue when you have an issue with them. They don't want reviews that tell what kind of customer service they have by either having your review removed blocking you from making a review or giving a review that isn't focused on the true issue on hand and that's the customer service they have and how they treat people. read more

My cat was so soft after grooming! I really appreciate that the scent of the products they use is very light as cats have a heightened sense of smell. They groomed her exactly as I asked and they seem to be a caring and fun staff. My kitty was in her carrier and ready to go at the time they told me to pick her up. Smitten Kitten has a great little shop, too! I am happy to find a store with several kitty food, treat, etc. options and they carry a wide variety of Yeowz! Catnip toys! Hands down these are absolutely the best catnip toys ever made and Smitten Kitten has a lot from which to choose. I will be going back again soon! read more

My little sphynx baby Thea is THE live of my life. I am on vacation this weekend and just dropped off my skinfant for her first time boarding. The staff was friendly, amazingly accommodating, and knew their cat stuff. Thea was unhappy when I left her, but she quickly warmed up to everyone there-including the owner's daughter! I was feeling sad about being a part from my little nudacris so I called - yes, already. The Ankeny location is still working in getting their camera system up, but Liv offered to send some pictures of happy Thea to me via email to soothe the hold in my heart. So great! Love this little shop so much and I wouldn't leave my kitten with anyone else. 11/10 recommend!! read more

Smitten Kitten salon is excellent! I call to set up an appointment, they can typically get me in within a week of when I call. I get my cat the lion cut which includes a bath, nail trimming, and ear cleaning. They provide an excellent service and are very affordably priced. All the staff there are very friendly and really love the animals. I like that this is a cat only salon, it makes the experience less traumatizing for my cat than an all pet salon. The in house kitties are really friendly, they also have cats available for adoption! Great services provided and great people!! read more

Adorable little shop, cute name and awesome cat wallpaper. Came to shop for my cat's birthday. Found him so many toys that he absolutely LOVES! The staff was very friendly and helped me select a good snack for him. He also loved that- and he's a picky dude. They have adoptable kittens running around, which made it so much more fun, it was good to see what toys they reacted to. I could've left with much more than what I bargained for. Do not take your cat here. I repeat DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAT HERE! Staff is very rude and it seems they are all about the money. Especially the $30 deposit that they make you put down! I learned the hard way! I had an appointment that they messed up but then blamed the mix up on me so they could keep my $30. Wanted me to rebook and give them another $30 deposit. I walked out. Called my vet to bring in my cat to have his underbelly shaved as he was very matted. They now have a groomer there that did a GREAT job giving my cat a lion cut. No deposit, no drop off and no appointment. I was so impressed and thankful. When one door closes another one opens. Hopefully the employees will start to be nicer to the customers as more people are doing lion cuts while treating their customers very well. Read the reviews and you will see where some people cats got infections and was even hurt in their facility and they refused to pay vet bills. If you love your fur baby do not take them to smitten kitten. read more

Several years ago our 4 year old Maine Coon kitty died in their care - cause of death, cardiac arrest. Gave them another chance, and yesterday our 6 year old Himalayan kitty also died in their care - same cause. No idea what stress they put on these poor souls, but be warned!! My cat was boarded there for 4 nights and on the second day I caught a worker jab a broom at my cat on the camera set up in his room. I called the place right after seeing this and received no compassion or apologies. Just received excuses from the manager. I never thought a business that specializes in cat needs wouldn't know how to handle one without using a broom in a jabbing motion to keep the cat back when entering his room.
