The workers are not that knowledgeable, and are also condescending. I think small pet stores give better advice without the attitude, and are also more helpful. Petco tends to be good for supplies, but that's about it. read more

I drive from Riverside to get my dog groomed by Alexandra! She is the best! She has been grooming my dogs for years. My 15 year old Cairn Terrier looked like a happy puppy again after being groomed by her. She also groomed my boxer and now she takes care of my Boston Terrier! I have to drive a little further to Corona now, but it's definitely worth it! She knows what every breed is supposed to look like and her passion and love of dogs shines through! This rating is for the grooming department. WELL --- First of all, I asked lots of people where to send my dog to get groomed and get a haircut. We've taken him somewhere before and had a good experience, but its far away. So...Sunday I spent an hour calling all these different local groomers getting details and pricing info. When I called petco and told them I had a 7 month old dog they told me if I bring him in before he's 8 months he will qualify for this $33 puppy package. On Monday I decided to call Petco back because that was the best deal. Again, I was asked what kind of dog I had and how old...and was offered the same $33 puppy package. I made the apt. Trent took Conan in today at 1pm. First of all, they told him it would be $49 because puppies cease to qualify at 6 months old. When he argued them they lowered it to $42 but that was it. Then, he had to leave him for 4-6 hours. When he went to pick him up at 5:30pm they were just starting - they had him in a kennel that whole time! Then, when he came out he was shaven down to his SKIN! The other place shaved him but not to where I could see his SKIN, it's so sad! They told Trent it was because he was "matted" (we brush him everyday VS when he went to the first place he had been at the pet store for 5 months and never groomed or brushed once - explain that one). When I called to complain they told me that there is a new worker and she is probably the one who told me the puppy package expires at 8 months and that prices over the phone are just quotes and I could come pick up my puppy early if I wasn't happy (which I couldn't because I had work/class). So I let them know if they are okay with having their workers lie about pricing over the phone I will make sure that is their reputation! And to top it all off Conan was all lethargic and scared afterwards. I learned my lesson - we'll be driving far from now on! Worst customer service and dog treatment ever! I've started getting into aquariums a few months ago. This Petco is the only place available in my area at the moment. I'm so disappointed because I really need a place where I can get supplies and fishes so I can be able to enjoy this new hobby. Unfortunately, I can never find anyone in their aquatics department. I think I will drive the extra miles to Lake Elsinore to go to Petsmart. I don't know what it is...are they just simply understaffed or unmotivated? The customer service here is very hit and miss as well. Sometimes the guy that's always there is friendly and other times he's just blank, like he's bored and doesn't want to be there or even make conversations. Get with the program Petco, Even your Lake Elsinore location is understaffed. BTW, some of their fishes are not healthy. I brought back a fish that was already weak when I got him then eventually died. I even had 2 water samples (one for the tank that I had the fish in and one for the tank that I quarantined the fish into after I noticed he was weak). They tested both my water samples and both were fine. Then they ask me how I moved the fish to the other tank as if I would have caused it to die... When I told him I drip acclimated, he was super quiet and just gave me a new fish. If you read all the other reviews here you will find that most of the 1 and 2 stars are related to the aquatics department...smh read more

Me and my mom went into Petco around five this evening and left Petco around 6..during the time we were in Petco we had a hard time debating which reptile light would best suit our needs, so it took us awhile and after choosing the correct light without any help offering from employees we went along and looked at the Beta fish. After we waited(and walked around looking) for someone to help us with the water plants to go along with the beta we decide to go ahead and use the bag and fish nets that were on the counter to grab our own plants. While checking out the cashier named Daniel notice we got our own water plants by the way we tied the bag containing them. Daniel then with attitude says to us he is "very particular about HIS tanks and that we are not allowed to get our own plants because of the lotion on our hands" Petco needs some employees that want to help you instead of avoiding you until you pay then giving you attitude! Great place for pet supplies; but I would not purchase an animal there (this does not apply to rescue dogs and cats, but to the reptiles and other animals Petco sells. This review is getting a two because they have a good selection of pet supplies, a one would be for the conditions in which their pets for sale are being housed. This is my feeling about selling special care animals like reptiles, fish or birds, which require highly specialized habitats: if you're not willing to do the research and house the animals for sale in the appropriate habitat for their species and in the appropriate numbers for their age, gender and species, then just don't sell them. Petco justifies stuffing some of the reptile enclosures with far larger numbers than what is appropriate for certain species by saying the enclosures are "temporary housing". This is all determined at the corporate level, not the store level. I was told by store management that this is done because the animals are sold for profit. That being said, it is not ok. And please do not attempt to bring it to the attention of the employees at the store; they become defensive and hostile. Store management is aware of the conditions, but justifies it by stating the enclosures are only "temporary housing". If you consider 3-6 months temporary housing in inadequate habitat enclosures as acceptable, then great. To the store's credit, they are following corporate procedures and their hands are tied. I would suggest not buying these animals at this chain of pet stores for that reason. read more

They did not have a huge variety of toys for my dog as I hoped, but the over all experience was great. The woman at the register was all interested in my dog's breed and gave her a treat before we left. The whole staff is super friendly and you can totally tell they love animals as much as the owners. Deidre is great! She clips my little, old lady just right. She takes her time because she knows my little Missy is old and fragile and a little skittish. Missy used to shake so much when I took her for her grooming but Deidre has made her feel much better and unafraid. read more

My review is regarding their dog grooming services: We've been here once before around 2008, and we recently moved down the street so we were hoping to continue grooming services here. The first time they charged to have my dog muzzled. My dog looks like a pitbull so I chalked it up to they were scared or wanted a little extra charge. Since we have gotten him as a puppy, he has been to many grooming & boarding places, we've moved around from Chino to Moreno Valley & between. He has never needed to be muzzled! But now they insist he has to be muzzled because they claim the other Petcos have written that he was muzzled. Alessandro Animal Hospital in Moreno Valley & (just today we picked him up from) Amber's luxury pet hotel 5 mins south of Dos Lagos both told us they love him. They had no trouble at all and he did not need to be muzzled. read more

Just went in today to get my dogs nail trimming, it was horrible. The lady up front at the desk was lazy and rude. She had her hair tips dyed green. The other lady had tattoos on her arms and she had a mole on top of her lip. She was rude as well, I told her that my dogs bites and she came on with a huge attitude saying " you're telling me right now that he bites? We don't take dogs that bite. Plus he's drooling heavily. " My dog has all this vaccines done. This was also my first time going there. Horrible service for a first time visit . I felt super discriminated because of how they were talking about my dog . What kind of dog doesn't drool when it's about 80-90 degrees out?. I was also waiting, the employee with tattoos was talking to this other customer very nicely and right when she got to us she gave us full attitude .
