Wow! Petco.. You've given me some really bad experiences in the past, but finally... FINALLY... This visit was amazing!!! I visited Petco to get a tank for my Betta fish, Buddy. Needless to say, we walked in and it was a quick painless process.. 23 dollars later I found a cute tank with a killer price on it. Besides that though, my partner and I were looking around at saltwater tanks and different options... Now we are NOT educated on the subject by any means, but let me tell you.. Cameron? He knows his stuff! Cameron came over to help us and schooled us on everything we needed to know... Not only did he educate us, but he really helped us by giving us a break down of all that goes into a saltwater tank. He was patient, answered all our questions, and even went as far as to point out what starter fish would be best. He was amazing! Kudos to Cameron and the staff at Petco. They have stepped their game up and really took care of me and my partner. :) read more

This review is actually for the vetco vaccination clinic. They will treat you like garbage if you only want to get the vaccine. They tried to upsale me on a package. I explained I already had a vet and was just trying to save a few bucks and not have to take time off work as the appt was on a Sunday. The attitude toward me completely changed. Also they hide their prices and call themselves "a low cost vaccine clinic." One shot was 50 dollars. To top it off, the tech came out and told me my kitten had worms. I asked her how she knew that as he had just had a fecal exam 2 weeks prior and she said because his "belly was big." She then proceeded to argue with me in front of everyone else in line about how he had worms. Horrible experience. Would recommend just going to a real vet or if you're looking to get vaccinations only, the kern co. Animal shelter has most vaccines for under 10 dollars and no judgment. read more

I scheduled an appointment for grooming for my shih-tzu today at 12:30pm. I brought her in at 12:10 and was told she cannot be checked in early. Their new policy requires them not to check in any pets early. This was really frustrating because it's 92 degrees outside. I spoke to management to suggest they let pet owners know about this new policy and she just said "oh well, I'm sorry." She was no help whatsoever. I've been coming to Petco for many years. I stayed loyal not because of their cuts (because they weren't very good) but because of their customer service. That's no longer a reason to come for grooming. The nice new Petsmart on Calloway now has our business. read more

I will never step foot in this store ever again. I'm usually the type of person that gives everyone the benefit of the doubt maybe they're busy or they've had a bad day but every single time there's this one employee who is awful and rude and this was the 5th time I've had a bad experience with this employee. I had actually stopped going to Petco because of this particular employee, who I won't name on yelp. Lately I've been going to PetSmart but they were out of what I needed so I hoped this person wouldn't be there tonight and I'd try it out. The employee was there and I couldn't find anyone else so I asked nicely for assistance and made sure to say please, thank you and smile and this person could barely make eye contact and was very short with me and I got stuck waiting and waiting until I walked out. I would rather drive across town to the other PetSmart than spend my money here ever again! Plus the last time I was there and looking at the fish a different employee was saying how you can hand feed a lionfish!?!!?! Ummm NO!!! Getting stung by a lionfish is EXTREMELY painful, you can end up in the hospital, and in severe cases die. Very misleading information, all of the saltwater fish are sick/ dying/ or dead and really bad customer service. read more

Today, I went to get a refund on Frontline plus I had purchased almost a month ago. Apparently the stuff doesn't work anymore. One of the staff with long white/grey hair I believe (I'm not sure what her name was) was so helpful and efficient! She did my refund promptly and also helped me pick out a better option for flea and tick control. She was very knowledgeable and my dog has finally stopped scratching thanks to her recommendation. Even though my questions were making a few people have to wait, she didn't rush me or hurry me up and continued to explain options. I was having a bad day so her kindness went a long way! read more

I normally only come in here if I'm looking for something specific for my dogs. The store is well organized and clean so it makes it easy to get caught looking around. Products are on the expensive side . Every week they have cat adoptions and occasionally will have the dogs out for adoption as well. Customer service is average. I haven't met anyone that is amazing or horrible. read more

I had bought a betta fish from here that I loved for three years and had absolutely no problems with him. I wanted to upgrade to a 10 gallon for it and decided to put some plants in as well. Their plants are INFESTED with snails, not only snails but white worm parasites. Their plants killed my fish. read more

Lorri is always great with my dog Luna. Luna is a rescue and is very shy but has taken a liking to Lorri. She always greets us and takes time with my Luna to put her at ease before she takes her to the back. She always makes sure she gets her in and out and has the best customer service I have ever seen. Love the layout of this store, much more so than Petsmart. But it's the fact there are cat adoptions ALL the time. The Cat People are there almost every Saturday, and it's refreshing to see a group of local people actively volunteering to find homes for unwanted cats. During Christmas, they even have photos with Santa! It's great to see a large corporation partnering with a local animal group! read more

My boy, a Great Pyrenees mix, was in desperate need of some grooming. We originally had scheduled him with Petsmart because they are closer to the house, but Petco had an opening that day, so Petco it is. He got the de-shedding treatment, with a trim, got his nails trimmed too, his dewclaws were bad and he'd never let me trim them so I'm happy that they were able to do it for me. Not only was I very happy with the finished product, but it was cheaper than Petsmart too. I was very happy and will go back, staff was very friendly and accommodating, my dog smells good and he feels like an expensive stuffed animal. read more

I typically don't enjoy coming to petco because there is one cashier and the checkout is always slow. I went there today because I have not received an online order from their corporate offices and their customer service, specifically from manager Josh and Brandon who I spoke to on phone, we're both just outstanding. The online service was impossible to contact so these two took care of my online order, at a discount. I was set up with a new online automated delivery for food, no delivery fee, includes any special discounts...I really can't imagine better service. When this was done, Josh carried my bag to the front register, made sure I got checked out at the new price and then carried it out to the car for me. Delighted!! read more

I was returning an item and she rolled her eyes and huffed and puffed loud and I paid for my dogs food and she didn't bag my items or anything, while I was carrying my dog. I'm very concerned about what MAY have happened when my long haired chihuahua went to the groomers there. He is about 4 years old. No current health issues. When we went to pick him up he acted differently. Very timid and unsure of his surroundings. But when I had to go to him. He is typically very friendly and will roll onto his back almost immediately. He did not do that this time. Something was off. Less than a week later we came home from work and he was wobbling and shaking. His ears were hot. We took him to the vet. They took X-rays and it appeared that around T12 there looked to be a disc compression. We were hoping with some meds he would get better. In less than a week from that day he loss all use of his hind legs. We took him the the vet hospital in LA. The VCA. They preformed an MRI. His disc was compressing his spinal cord. He had to have surgery. Between the emergency vet visit, MRI, surgery and a 2 night stay in their hospital. Over $7,000. He has gained some use back in his legs. He still walks like he's drunk. He gets his stitches out tomorrow. Now I can't prove he was injured here. But he has had no other opportunity to get injured. As far as I know they don't record the entire visit so I have no proof. read more

Last week I took my dog in after going there for 18 months and the groomer who usually took care of my dog was no longer working there. So, that meant a different groomer would be taking care of my dog. My dog does not like a lot of messing around her rear feet near her dew claws and I let the new groomer know this. She promptly flipped Mindy onto her back and tugged on her rear feet! Needless to say, my dog did not like that! So, she said she was aggressive. My dog is not aggressive! She has this one definite dislike. The much ballyhooed 7 point exam is there to unnecessarily to aggravate the dog, which is what she did. Anyway, I left and scheduled an appointment with Fast and Furriest in Bakersfield, and I informed them about her rear paws issue and told them if they needed to use a muzzle to get the job done they had permission to do so. Well, I returned one short hour later, and guess what? The groomer did not need to use a muzzle and Mindy looked fabulous! The groomer stated that I was right about my dog not caring for her rear paws being messed with, but her rear paws looked great. Not only that, she really loved her new groomer! Don't go to Petco! They take far too long, and most of their groomers are in training. Dogs don't like uncertainty when being handled. They sense it, and since Petco doesn't use muzzles, well what are owners to do with a dog that has a sensitivity or two? While I "get" it, what I don't get is the extensive use of trainees in the salon. Three to four hours in a pet salon is way too long. Find someone else, who can do it in an hour or two. Yes, that means find a very experienced groomer! There now, I have said it! I won't be going back to Petco because of this for ANYTHING! They don't sell anything I cannot get online from Amazon or elsewhere! read more
