Stopped by the Petco at Bailey's Crossroads to pick up some treats for my cats. This location definitely feels like one of the older stores, and the layout is quite different from the newer warehouse-style Petco locations. Instead of one large open floor, this store is divided into separate rooms--the main area is geared toward dogs, while the fish and cat sections each have their own dedicated spaces. It took me a few extra minutes to find the cat treats, but the layout wasn't difficult to navigate once I figured it out. My only disappointment was the selection. Several items in the cat treat aisle were out of stock, including the Churu Chicken Recipe 4-pack, which I'm guessing is one of their most popular flavors. They had plenty of 10-count variety packs, Kitten 4-packs, and Skin & Coat 4-packs, but none of the regular Chicken Recipe packs I was looking for. There were lots of other treat brands available, but as every cat owner knows, cats can be incredibly picky--even when it comes to treats. I ended up buying the Chicken with Scallop Recipe Variety Pack since it was the only option that included the regular Chicken Recipe. The staff at checkout was friendly and had me checked out quickly. While I wish the shelves had been better stocked, the visit was still pleasant overall, and I'd stop by again when I'm in the area. read more

This is regarding the grooming salon at Petco in Baileys Crossroads. Sang ("Sam") what's the groomer. I was impressed! Sam took the time to carefully understand what kind of grooming we wanted for our smaller and antsy dog. 2 1/2 hours later he delivered perfectly. Dog smells nice too. Had a party at my house later that evening and got great compliments from the guests. I would have to pay about double the price for the exact same grooming and nail trim in Alexandria. What's also nice is that I could go to the Panera Bread just a few doors down with my computer and have some coffee and do some office work while I'm waiting. Would absolutely use again. read more

Usually I have good experiences at Petco... One nice employee older man in the cat aisle was kind and helpful. The cat area is in a middle of a remodel. I got what I need and proceed to check out. One cashier ! For a busy Saturday Afternoon! It's my turn.. .. in most places we'll trained cashiers will ask if you need a bag. Cashier Hayden.. didn't greet me as he did to others before me... ok.. He began ringing my stuff and throw it in a bag. I said. I have my own bag... he takes it out.. and hands me my items. I pay and have my receipt emailed. Something in me told me double check. I did...and guess what ... he charged me the bag fee?! I go back and tell Hayden he charged me for a bag. He says so what do you want? And says here's a bag.. im like just my 5 cents ... please... So he takes on another customer before assisting me. No apologies given.. he credits my card ... I know its 5 cents you might say, but its the principal. How many customers have been over charged 5 cents, when they bring in their bags ? It does add up. If your a cashier ask first. The store bags are cheap and filmsy btw. read more

A bit shady! I called ahead to ask about walk-in grooming services and the person on the phone said sure. Just make sure you get here before 2:00 cuz we won't be fully staffed. Well, I walked in around 12:30 p.m. And I saw a sign for grooming happy hour, with a discount for walk-in grooming between 2:00 to 6:00 p.m.. That is some of the shadiest stuff I've ever seen man it's crazy. I asked them to honor the discount and they wouldn't do it. Plus my dog was visibly uncomfortable with the process in the made zero efforts to soothe or calm my dog, even as he thrashed about and began yelping. read more

My puppy Milley, has been getting groomed by David since her first grooming appointment last year. He does an excellent job grooming Milley and always takes great care of her. David is so patient and kind and treats Milley like family! Today, Milley came home looking adorable, smelling clean and fresh, and I could tell she was happy and comfortable. Because of David's consistent amazing service, we have not been to any other grooming facility, nor any other groomer. It's not easy finding people you can fully trust with your pet, but I can honestly say I highly recommend David to anyone looking for quality grooming services. Glad they had frozen mice. Yes I paid more than the laboratory, but the corn snake needed to eat. You do what you have to sometimes, and looking forward to the online order arriving. I took my toy poodle and I told them to give her a trim. And when I got my baby back, I didn't even recognize her. They basically shaved her down completely. She's a toy poodle, which means she should've gotten a cut poodle style. she felt so embarrassed and doesn't wanna even go out. I know they were in a hurry because it was July 4 but they should've told me they didn't have enough time or they should've canceled my appointment then giving my baby that haircut. read more

I'm not from this area, but we had to buy food for our cats as we are leaving on a trip. We bought a box of cat food and when we arrived home the cans were open and infested with maggots! Thankfully they were dead but it was a horrible sight. Called the store multiple times without a response! We came here for the first time to use their dog grooming service (bath, nail trim, and teeth brushing) as well as to browse their store. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, they only allow one customer in the grooming salon at a time, and they wear masks and practice social distancing. They were nice overall, though they don't ever pick up their phone. We made the appointment online so in the end didn't have to talk to someone on the phone. Upon checking in they did ask for rabies' certificate. The grooming took about 2 hours when they called to say everything's done. The store is clean, well-lit, and well-organized. Two check out counters were open. The staff and customers wore face masks and practiced social distancing. The store was well stocked. read more

Due to the recent dog grooming death that occurred at PetSmart, I'd like to share a similar experience that I had at one of your stores on September 13, 2020. I was in the store on Sep, 13 2020 at 1:27 Pm My sister and I took our dogs (Simba and Oso) to get their nails trimmed and while we were waiting the groomer was with a Scottish Terrier. The dog had a small beard that was tangled and he was literally ripping the comb through the beard. The dog was crying and in visible pain and the groomer (had a long black ponytail) proceeded to keep pulling the comb over and over again. He was also on his cellphone the entire time. The other groomer, Fermin, roughly cut my puppies nails quickly and then didn't adjust the harness for the size of our other dog (25 lbs vs 80lbs) which caused it to be very tight around his neck. Since our larger dog was very uncomfortable, when he shifted he was literally hanging by his neck off the grooming table. It sounds like our experience could have led to a very similar tragic experience if we had not been present. In light of this I think there should be further investigation into the practices of your dog groomers. read more

We took our dog here for a bath/grooming since he's a shepherd/hound mix and even though he's one dog he does enough shedding for five dogs! They did a good job but miscommunicated with us on how long it was going to take. They told me one hour but it was actually two. If i'd known it was going to be that long I would've gone home and come back rather than loitering around Petco so long that I almost convinced myself to buy an aquarium while I was there. I'll probably go back here but be sure and clarify how long it will take for your dog's grooming so there aren't any surprises. read more

I haven't been to a Petco in a few years since Petsmart was closer to my house (and I take my dogs to the vet there). So I decided to check this place out and it has a weird set up. The racks/shelves block your sight line to the various parts of the store. So it basically felt like going through a maze to find what you're looking for. I saw a wide variety of pets (that were living thankfully). Then I got to the fish and aquarium area. Some of the tanks were clean and others were full of dead fish and snails. But I found a few bright spots where some fish seemed newer/healthy looking. But unfortunately there aren't enough employees working here at any given time. I came through yesterday to buy some fish and couldn't find an employee anywhere. So I asked the guy at the front if there was anyone working today and he said "I'll try to send someone back. It could be anywhere from 5-45 minutes..." !?!? So I waited for another 5 mins before deciding to try again another day. read more

I actually hate shopping here, but it's close to home so I find myself here more than I want to. The staff is extremely friendly and professional, and I usually find what I need, but getting around the store is nearly impossible because of all the stock items sitting in the aisle, on carts, or even pallets, waiting to be shelved! And it's ALWAYS like this so it's not a one-off. Pretty frustrating when I can't reach the item I need/want when there's a cart or pallet full of merchandise in the way. I want to love this place. This review is really for the grooming section but it's part of the store so I guess that counts as the same. FWIW, pre-pandemic, I've shopped in the store and had decent experiences, ones that lead me to check out their groomers. I have two new young kittens. Twenty dollars to clip a cats nails that can shred the uninitiated new cat owner like a Nightmare on Elm Street victim is a great deal. So knowing that some Petco's trim cats nails is a real boon. However I also know how retail has really gone downhill post-pandemic and didn't want to waste my or more importantly my cats time because as cat owners we know that they don't like change. So going anywhere can be traumatic, at least at the time. It was a Saturday. I called the store and they were busy so I called the main corporate Petco. And they told me that Bailey's Crossroads does the nail trimming for cats. So I packed my cats up and went to Petco. When arriving, they referred me over to the main store part which apparently they thought I needed a vaccine for my cats. After telling the vaccine people, they nicely redirected me back to the groomers. There was someone on the phone and a customer with two dogs ahead of me. As I patiently waited, they took the customers dogs and I was left waiting with the front desk guy on a lengthy phone call from an inquisitive customer on their services. I was there about 10 minutes total. When he gets off the phone, he tells me cat grooming services aren't done on the weekends due to it being a busy dog time and it scares the cats. He couldn't have briefly put the customer on hold and told me this? The groomer who took the dogs couldn't have told me? They saw I had cats, they saw I was waiting but instead I had to wait 10 minutes to find out something I should've been told when arriving. The front desk guy writes down the hours on a business card and sends me on my way without any extra information. Mind you of the 3 days provided only one day has a 4pm to 6pm option which is the only time most business working pet owners can do unless you take off but I set my calendar to return then. So I come back Wednesday at 4pm and the cat groomer lets me know I need my rabies vaccination paperwork. I let her know that the guy from Saturday who was also there, never told me that I needed that. And he promptly told me that it's corporate policy (something corporate Petco never told me) that they don't touch a cat without it and that it's common practice for all grooming service companies. Well that may be true but having done a number of customer service positions in my life as well as my current customer facing IT roles which I also have years of experience in, it is good practice to inform people of requirements that can save everyone a headache instead of telling them that they should've known. I get that some people know about it but this is terrible customer service. The tone, the delivery, the lack of consideration for my multiple visits. I get the point and didn't push for them to do it anyway, not that that they would've. I didn't go to the manager which may've gotten me something free or something. I just called the vet that will be doing the spaying and they let me know it's included which is a huge relief. This groomer may be great for dogs. Maybe they're great for cats...three days a week. But their customer service sucks. I called and went twice with no heads up for something that will send a person home if they don't already know and then to act like well you should is crap. Especially a service company who deals with animals that they know don't like going anywhere. So basically they at least when it comes to the person to person interactions, lack compassion. It's par for the course in this post-pandemic retail world but if you've got a choice for where to do it, maybe do it somewhere else. read more

David did such a great job! First time having him service my pup - I usually go all the way out to Annadale b/c I like to stick to the same person. My guy was booked too far out - and I'm glad, because my pup looks so great. There's always a slight anxiety or cautiousness when taking your "fur-baby" to a new groomer so David's patience, calmness, and chill but professional manner - on top of his skilled grooming - was so needed. No knicks, no cuts, and David followed my desired cut on my thin-haired schnauzer/yorkshire pup which is not always easy. Basically: THANK YOU, DAVID! Go take your pup to him! read more

I'm updating my review to reflect my most recent experiences. I've probably gone to this Petco 10 times in the last few months because my kitty has been having stomach issues and I've been trying different foods with him. I was told about the food return policy (return within 30 days with receipt and more than half eaten for full refund) and I was so happy to hear it and took full advantage of it. I knew my cat was going to have to try many different bags of foods before I found the right one and I did not want to dump $$$ into wasting food until I got it right. Every time I came, the staff was friendly and willing to offer their advice for me and my cat. They never judged me for returning food and was always helpful and understanding. Without this Petco, I probably would've thrown away over $100 and bags of wasted cat food. I'm glad to know most of the food I returned were donated to a shelter for a good cause. Now I found what works for my cat (apparently wet food only now) and I didn't waste a single dime! Thanks Petco! read more

This is the Petco that is closest to me that sells feeders. Service is ok, though sometimes they can be under staffed, and you might have to ask the cashier to help you if your getting anything in the small animal section. Besides that it looks like every other Petco. Tip: Not every location offers mice feeders, but this one and the Tyson's corner location does. Parking lot gets packed later in the afternoon and on holidays since there's a popular Best Buy and Trader Joe's in the same shopping area. read more

This location is always clean and the associates are always very friendly. Today I had the pleasure of meeting Darion, a new associate. I recently bought a double tail male beta fish for my students as our class pet to replace the one that passed during Snowzilla, when schools were closed for a week and a half. We named our new pet Atlantis on Friday! So imagine my surprise and heartbreak when I saw him at the bottom of the fish tank Monday morning. After school I return to Petco with my receipt (always keep your receipts because you never know when you have to return something!) and the deceased Atlantis. I went straight to the available register and handed them my fish and they instructed me to just go back and get another. I grabbed another double tell male beta fish and in less than five minutes my students had a new class pet. Then I remembered that I needed to pick something up for Gemini because she's been suffering from allergies and dry skin. It wasn't very busy, but rather than just telling me that it's located in the back Darion left the register and walked me to the back, helped me pick out an oatmeal Teatree conditioning spray and then walked me back to the front and rang me up. Before I left the I interacted with three associates and they were all very helpful and very nice. It was a really good experience. read more

This is a review for the Petco management: Shaun, Nick, and Kelsey. I didn't have the greatest experience with one of the groomers. I have a papillon and I'm always very clear about not touching the hair around her ears (the hair is really thin and it doesn't grow back... papillon ears is what the bread is known for...). She now will forever look like a Pomeranian :( The staff was incredibly understanding and super professional issuing me a refund for the service I wasn't happy with. The only groomer I would recommend on this location is David. I'm really upset I didn't ask for him. Petco offers food and supplies for pups, cats, fish, reptiles, birds, and other small animals. I was a little surprised that they didn't carry certain food brands for pups, but their boutique version 'Unleashed' does. They do, however, have a good selection of all-natural food, snacks, and grooming supplies. The grooming services are adjacent, and the store also offers obedience lessons/training. I understand stores are doing their best during these challenging times, but this location in particular is one of the least convenient locations I visit. A quick trip to pick up food ends up being an hour long, because you're climbing around the mess of boxes or unable to reach certain products if their shelves are surrounded by partions for animal training. Planning on a 10 min trip? Let go of that farcical expectation while avoiding tripping hazards such as scattered self-serve cat litter and giant boxes/pallets blocking your ability to find the product that has been relocated to a diff part of the store for the 4th time this month. Really need that product? Brace yourself to look like an entitled asshole for disrupting a time-limited class. Partitions still up from an earlier training? Get ready to wait up to 20 mins for an associate to come move them aside. Need to purchase an upholstered item that's ONLY ever located on the tip-top of shelves near the ceiling? Hope you have an N100 respirator mask and a hazmat suit. They are unwrapped, layered with dust, and will leave you coughing for days. read more

This review is for grooming, hopefully it'll get posted because it is not fake. I made an entire account to let people know how I feel about this Petco. It's been about a month or two, but I will never forget what happened to me and my dogs here. I knew this experience would suck and it did and it always does because the people who work here are consistently unprofessional. I try to make a grooming appointment and the guy doesn't ask me what I want. Fine, but don't make me feel like it's my fault you don't know what I want when I walk in. First walk in, girl is brushing her hair and staring at the computer. Doesn't greet me right away. Weird, but I'm forgiving. Until she tries to give me attitude because she insists both my dogs need baths. I can and do do that myself, I don't need to pay someone for it and I don't need to be made to feel like a bad owner for it. She was apathetic when she discovered I wasn't dishing out hundreds of dollars, and it showed in her work. Starts on my first dog. She lets my dog FALL OFF THE TABLE. I've worked at a grooming salon. I've worked at a vet. I know that was HER fault. She tries to blame my dog. My poor dog gets partially strangled and INJURED during the fall off the table, her whole nail cracks off. She is bleeding everywhere at this point. Someone else would've flipped off right about now, but that's not who I am. I am an UNDERSTANDING PERSON to a fault. Even past the fear that I felt watching my dog bleed everywhere. Even when I am literally alone with my panicked dog while she and her manager scramble to cover their bases so they don't get sued or something. Even when I feel nothing but apathy radiating from every single person in that room, I can still understand. Accidents happen. Until she tries to BLAME ME and implies my dog's nail cracked because it was too long, ie I'm not trimming them often enough. Are you serious? Maybe it happened because you let her flop off the table? Maybe if you didn't have to work early in the morning? Maybe if you were getting a fat check from me, it wouldn't have happened? Make a mistake, fine. But get off your horse and take responsibility for it. She's a know it all, tries to diagnose my dogs with things me and their vet are already aware of and she's not even right about the diagnosis. Last time I checked, you're a stylist, not a vet. The most valuable thing I got from her was a mouthwash recommendation that I didn't ask for (she used some enzymatic BS instead of brushing my dogs' teeth like I wanted). Absolutely terrible place for dog grooming. Let's begin with the forgivable part: the hair was extremely uneven, and far too short in the body and the face, while some areas remained super long. in some cases the dog's reddish skin was showing and appeared to have cuts from the trimming machine. Now, the unforgivable: I can't understand why the dog appeared to be traumatized after picking him up from petco. He appears to have cuts on his body, he does not want to socialize with other dogs, and he is now always shaking. I do not know how they treat their dogs while they are being groomed for it is impossible to see their operation, but I cant imagine it is with any compassion. I would advise anyone who has a dog to avoid this place to keep your dog's mental health. Very disappointed in petco and the trauma it inflicts in dogs while "grooming". read more

Messy store. Boxes of unshelled merchandise everywhere. Only two saltwater systems, but stocked with the same inventory as a normal Petco with over six systems. Tanks are subdivided into 3-4 sections per tank with upwards of 30-50 fish per tank. Every saltwater tank had dead fish. I wouldn't buy livestock or dry goods from here. They don't price match market dry goods. They only pricematch Petco.com. Amazon is at least 20% cheaper on everything, even if you pay for overnight shipping. Aquatics staff was too busy talking about their friend's new child to even help two customers that were waiting to get freshwater fish bagged. No one even greeted me, despite staring at the same tanks for 15 min. Petco can be hit or miss, depending on the staff. This one is definitely a miss. read more

I really loved ordering a pick up order that had a one time use coupon on it, driving across town to pick it up, seeing wierd signs saying the store was temporarily closed, calling the number they provided for pickups, waiting 15 min for no one to answer the phone, then spending 20 minutes with corporate customer service arguing with them to cancel my order because I couldn't pick it up, and then arguing with them to try to get the coupon code back to I could re-order for pickup to a different store. I already wasn't a fan of this place, but I will not be coming back again. read more

I normally come on weekends and they're so attentive of people coming in. Today a Thursday at 11 am I went to ask for assistance in the fish section as I wanted to get a plant. He said he called someone and I waited 15 minutes before leaving and just driving over to PetSmart. Don't waste time go to PetSmart. This Petco is pretty average, but there are a few things about the store that make me want to shop elsewhere. Firstly, it is quite cluttered and sort of difficult to navigate. I appreciate that they want to provide as many items as possible, but somehow the inventory didn't seem good, just a lot of it. Second, the bigger issue is that the store doesn't seem clean. It's a pet store so I'm not expecting it to be glistening, but I also don't want to feel like I am about to suffer an allergy attack every time I come in. The grooming salon was especially overwhelming. I think this is related in part to the crowded, cluttered issue. Employees seemed friendly and the parking lot has plenty of parking, though it gets busy since it's near a slew of other stores. Convenient location by several other shopping plazas. But I probably won't come back here unless I need something in a pinch. read more
