His younger sister has been adjusting or we thought she was until yesterday. We stopped to take Maggie to be with our groomer, Alan. Maggie started crying and scream barking. We had to have Melissa help us physically get Maggie inside. Alan greeted us. We sadly left her. Alan said she did well after we left. Later, we picked her up with a treat. Today, I called Melissa and asked if Maggie and I could pop in for a positive treat. We arrived. Maggie saw the special treat and we walked into the business with ease and a smile. Very disappointing experience. Despite clearly explaining the haircut and providing photos, my dog was given a different cut. Booked over a week and a half in advance with a specific groomer to avoid this exact issue, but was told the morning of my appointment that she was overbooked. This reflects poor organization and a lack of careful listening to customer instructions. When a customer plans ahead and communicates clearly, there should be greater consistency and attention to detail. I hope the business improves its scheduling practices and how it handles client requests moving forward. read more

1. My doggie (Shih Tzu) has 2 cuts inside each ear, which I noticed once at home. 2. Uneven, bad haircut. I sent 3 pics of what I wanted. Writing after a couple of days because I was very upset the day it happened. The groomer, Ms. Lux was very polite but she obviously lacks skills. I stood 20 min next as she tried to even out his hair and kept asking me what to do. I paid $85 and don't expect to explain something I don't know how to do it. If she kept cutting he would of been bold. I had to return to work as I picked him up during my lunch. I couldn't stay any longer and the haircut was beyond being able to be fixed. The owner was there and I wished she called me after I expressed my disappointment. I tried to call to tell her about the cuts, but was told she won't be there for several days. Jolie (my standard poodle puppy) has had two wonderful cuts from Hazel! The first cut was at 5 months and she gave her a teddy bear clip which looked great. The second cut was at 6.5 months and she gave her a Miami clip for the summer, which also looked great! Jolie gets excited to see Hazel, so that is a good thing. She's very good with handling puppies who are just getting used to having their faces, ears, and feet handled. I highly recommend Hazel! The first time I took Jolie to get groomed here another gal did her and charged $75 for just a shampoo! She said my then 3-month old puppy was too stressed out to get clean feet, ears plucked, and clean face. That was disappointing since I could've saved $75 and given her a bath on my own. She will use a baby wipe like you don't know your animal has not been bathed. I was suspicious about this for a long time until one day I came in and she had the nerve and audacity to do it in my face and think she was still supposed to get the full pay. their private contractors in there so it's nobody to check them and make sure they do what they're supposed to do very unprofessional setting. Lee does not have protective gloves when she's dealing with animals she's very unprofessional and unprepared animals are crying suspiciously I do not trust her any father than I can throw her, she has cut and damaged my animals on many occasions as well, and didn't even tell me I had to confront her to get the truth, I will definitely be reporting them, so consider yourself warned before you bring your animals to this establishment. It was his first time at a groomer and he was terrified to say the least but they allowed us to come in the back with him while he got his cut and let us hold him and pet him while he was groomed. So a fellow dog owner that we met at the dog park recommended Lee at For Pets' Sake. Overall she did a wonderful job, and my Doodle looks fabulous. I don't recommend going here - we felt super misled. My husband and I wanted to try a different groomer since ours was booked months out and pretty expensive. We called For Pets' Sake and they were available that same week (we now know why...) and quoted me $90 for my goldendoodle. That's a lot less than we usually pay so we booked it. The environment was chaotic with phones ringing, lots of employees talking and of course dogs barking but that last one can be expected. At the beginning of the appointment, they asked what kind of haircut I wanted. I showed a photo and emphasized not to cut the tail or her ears since they really didn't need it and we like it long. We dropped her off at 9 AM and she was ready at 2:30 PM (much longer than any other place I've been). They cut her ears short, cut her tail short and charged me $110 (before tip). Believe me, 2 stars is generous. I booked an appointment for a Saturday at 8:30, with a young girl who was either very new or clearly not a receptionist. Every question was answered with an "uhmmm, hold on, let me find out". My last question was "can you give me an estimate of the price?" Uhmmm, how much does your dog weigh? He's a Goldendoodle puppy approximately 50lbs. She said $65 to $85.00, after again asking "someone". My husband and I go to drop him off and Alex tells us Russo is not on the calendar but not to worry there was a groomer available. I don't know if they don't like doodles, although several folks in Fairlington take theirs there and recommended them to me. We go to pick Russo up and the girl tells us it's 120.00! For what, I ask!!! The lady that groomed him said that's the price for doodles and waited for the tip and walked away. This was such a terrible job of grooming, I could've done it myself with scissors. I called the owner 4 times in a week and was told she would get back to me. That was 3 weeks ago. I have been using For Pets Sake for over 25 years. Looking at some of the poor reviews makes me appalled! Jackie the owner is not only an animal rescuer but she has given her services for free at the Animal Shelter in Alexandria to the incoming animals that were badly in need of a grooming to help make them feel better and become more adoptable! I have had Yorkie all my life along with other dog breeds and cats. Jackie has groomed all of them. If Jackie was unavailable I used the other groomers and they all did a stellar job. But back to the Yorkie breed! They are prone to have luxating patellas. That is where the knee cap goes in and out. No groomer can cause that to happen! Yorkies cannot even get Pet Insurance to cover it! They are that prone! Some of these reviews are just plain hateful, I have to wonder how these people can sleep at night!!! read more

I'll make this brief because there is no need to belabor the point: Their groomer took a dime-sized chunk out of my dog's snout. I didn't notice it right away when I picked him up, and the groomer didn't call it to my attention. I called the manager and she was BEYOND belligerent, accused me of wanting a free haircut, and said flat-out they had no duty to tell me they'd injured my dog. This is a tentative first review - I'm new to the area and, noticing the "Hill's" sign in the window, stopped in to see if they carried Science Diet Large Breed for my big little guy. Initial observation was that it was the calmest grooming facility I had ever seen: there were three groomers working on three dogs, and none of the animals were making a peep as they stood calmly while receiving services. I don't have the type of dog that needs grooming, but I would imagine that it takes a pretty skilled groomer to get a dog that relaxed while clippers are buzzing, dryers running, etc. - and the two spaniels who came in for their appointment while I was there seemed super happy to see their scheduled groomer. Anyway, I inquired about the Large Breed variety kibble when I didn't see it on the shelf, and a gentleman who I believe was the owner gave me his card and said that if he didn't get any with his weekly shipment, but it was something I'd need regularly, to just give him a call and he'd add it to his order. If he can beat the regular PetSmart price for the food (I haven't called back yet), he has just won a loyal new customer - it's nice to have that kind of customer service in the neighborhood. Hazel groomed our feisty one-year old Cavalier and did an excellent job. His ears were jagged and unbalanced after a prior grooming experience and now look perfect. She listened to my requests for what to trim and parts to leave alone. We are relieved to finally find a groomer who can work our pup! I am not usually one to write reviews, however I very strongly believe that this is not a place that will take care of your animal. I had never been to this place, however after looking at the five-star reviews from Google I decided to give it a try. (Some of the reviews on Yelp tell a more accurate story and I should have looked here first). My dog went in, perfectly healthy and energetic, however when she returned, her eyes were bleeding and she could barely walk or even stand. We asked the staff member if anything had happened and he said there were no incidents, but there was clearly something wrong with our dog so we took her into the vet and had her examined. The vet told us she was either strangled or there was blunt force trauma to her head. We went back to the groomers the next day and the employee finally confessed that something had happened. Due to his negligence, our dog had fallen off the table and was hanging from her neck for a long enough time that the blood vessels in both of her eyes popped. I will add that my dog is NOT squirmy, she sits still and is very well-behaved. I am thankful that our dog will recover, but I would NEVER trust this place to take care of my animal, and I do not recommend that you do either. read more

I went in because I needed a martingale collar for my easily-excited dog. We ran there, and they gave him a bowl of water while I picked out what I needed. They had the color (camouflage) and size (fat neck / meathead) I needed. The guy working even held my dog's leash while I adjusted the collar so I could make sure it was the right size for him. Meanwhile, my dog splashed the water all over the floor. The other worker laughed and grabbed a towel. I left happy. I feel like they tolerated his sniffing and curiosity really well. If I could give zero stars I would. I went to this place for a year thinking there weren't better options in the area. My dog would be there all day and come back distraught. Once I got my dog back and her cornea was scratched and had to get medicated eye drops from the vet. The final straw was when I was picking up my dog and she saw me and got excited. The groomer at the front table (who I learned was the owner) told the receptionist to "shut that dog up, it's upsetting my beagles." I have been taking my dog here for a year and I could not be happier. She is a rescue and is practically scared of everything from loud noises to strange people and places. Ms. Rosie grooms her and is super gentle and understanding and does an excellent job. She takes her time and never rushes my frightened pooch out of there. My dog gets a hand scissor short cut for around $75, which to me is cheap considering my other dog gets groomed for $100+ at another location. This was my first time bringing my three year old POM to "For Pet's Sake" I made an appointment the day before and was able to be seen the next day at 12:00PM. I needed a full groom.. which included a cut, wash, blow dry, brush, ears cleaned, and nails trimmed. They charged me depending on the size and what would be needed, but the price was very reasonable. My Pom doesnt have much hair and didn't need anything fancy so it was only $60.00 bucks!!! I paid extra to get his teeth cleaned cause his breath was something serious $15.00!!! Pros: First time drop off no problem! Quick in and out sign up Very friendly lady at front desk and introduced me to who would be cutting Zues's hair and she asked me what i was looking for ! Got a call back in 2 1/2 hours!!!! Great turnover time. There is a store inside which gave me some time to browse. Looked very clean Pick up LITERALLY took 10 mins if that He was clean and they tied a cuttteeee christmas bow on him. Cons: The cute was nothing fancy; but then again I didnt ask must for much. Some places spray smell goods after the grooming, This one did not. I will return to this place for sure! While I lived in Alexandria, for a few years, we used For Pet's Sake on our dog. He always enjoyed being there, not necessarily going but once he was there he was fine. We used Lee she was great with him. I did discover early on that if you didn't request ASAP for pickup my dog would be there all day, as an older dog, he doesn't do well after a few hours. read more
