TLDR: cut is okay and service not too friendly. We're new to the area and found this groomer seemed to have good reviews. Booking was easy over the phone. We dropped our little shih tzu poodle mix off and showed them the cut we wanted (a photo of a previous cut he got). Picked him up and he did not look like we requested/was much shorter in the face, almost shaved all his chin hair off. My husband went in to pick him up and he said the staff wasn't too friendly either, which doesn't track with other reviews. We are used to getting a little report card on how our dog did from our previous place (I know that's not necessary); when he asked how our pup did in the appt, they didn't really give him any response and just handed our dog over. It was $95, and while it's not the worst cut he's ever had there's not much making us want to go back. read more

DO NOT COME HERE!!!If I could put zero stars I would !!!, I take my dogs here all the time and I have a senior dog who is very traumatized and scared of groomers but she would tolerate this place for a couple months because I thought they were treating her well. She's a very difficult dog to groom and I let Sisi know that and I always get charged extra for her which I don't mind because I thought she was being treated well, the last time I took my dog here she came back with nicks all over her body and not just that but she was flinching at every move I made towards her and now she will not let us put her a leash on her AT ALL!! The moment she looks at the leash she starts whimpering and whining. She fights the leash and cries every-time we try to bathe her and brush her hair. And when we brought this up to sisi she just used the excuse of that she's a difficult dog and they had to have 2 people to groom her. I think they used way too much force and cruelty because no animal should be this traumatized after a grooming these people are cruel and inconsiderate of dogs who need a little more care than other these people are cruel. This is very belated, as I have been taking my dogs here for over a year. I have two huskies, and Kate does a phenomenal job grooming them. When I pick them up they look like they lost five lbs in fur, and I actually have a few days of no/reduced shedding after. And my big guy greets Kate with kisses when we arrive so clearly they are treated well there. All the other staff are incredibly friendly as well. They clearly love animals here. Prices are pretty standard but the effort is worth it. My dogs can be here for up to six hours for a grooming appointment and the results speak for themselves! read more

As much as I do not want to leave a negative review, I feel that it would not sit right with me not to share my experience. This was my first time taking my dog to get groomed here. Based on the history of positive reviews I felt comfortable and decided I would give Annandale Pet Spa a try. I booked a full grooming service. With their service they require all dogs to be dropped off in the morning. I met with my groomer Sisi and explained to her what type of cut/look for my dog. She asked if I would like nails trimmed and I said yes. My experience up until this point was all positive as the staff were very polite and friendly. When I returned to pick up my dog, I noticed that in BOTH of my dogs EYES was SCRATCHED. I showed the groomer and she dismissed it and said it was hair. She then proceeded to rub my dogs eyes to which my dog yelped in pain. She created a larger tear in one of my dogs already scratched eye. She dismissed everything I said and was not concerned whatsoever. When I looked at the rest of my dogs body, I noticed that the nails were cut very jaggedly. Sisi responded before I said anything. She said that my dog did not like her nails cut and that's why her nails looks jagged. I'd like to note that prior to seeing my dog, I asked for an envelope to tip Sisi. I noticed I did not have enough cash and asked what her Venmo was so I can Venmo the remaining tip. I tipped her $18 for a $80 service. I quickly grabbed my dog and left. I did follow up and call to share my experience. I have not received a call back, an apology, or response. I understand and know mistakes happen but dismissing and not addressing the issue is not a way to handle this. I will never return here. I took my stray cat here as she was dirty and needed it. My multiple attempts to clean her resulted in a blood bath so I decided to go to the professionals. Joe was so kind and patient. Don't book with Stola (I think that's her name). Maybe it's just her but I will never be going back here to get my cat groomed. This is only my second time going here, the first time Kate did an amazing job with my cat. She took a few minutes with me before the service and clarified what she would be doing and the cost of the treatment, got to know my cat a bit and even texted me throughout the service with updates and questions she had. Overall I was pleased with her work and was still interested in going back until today. When I arrived it felt like Stola was in a rush despite me being the only person in the store. Asked me what I wanted, and I told her I wanted a trim for my cat and her nails clipped. Then she mumbled something under her breath and took my cat to the back, and never came back to the counter. No getting to know me or my cat, no clarity on exactly what to expect of my service or anything.She didn't even tell me that I could head out. This would have been easier if there was just somewhere with the prices and services written down but there's no website and nothing in the store indicating that that's easily accessible to guests. Regardless I had the conversation I expected to have with my groomer with another person working there, who let me know I was misquoted the last time I came in. I was told to my memory that there was a $45 cut, and nail trim treatment. Today however, I was informed anything with cutting was $100. So I explicitly stated whatever the $45 treatment was, that's what I wanted. So how do I then get a call an hour later from Stola saying she trimmed my cat and it would be $100... Wth??? They corrected it and only charged me the $45 which I appreciate them for and would have let this whole incident go by as just a miscommunication, and maybe even just booking with Kate next time- but ... When my cat came home to me I was shocked to see her coat was cut very poorly, it was a very choppy cut, she wasn't even brushed, and about 5 whiskers on the left side of her face were cut more than half their original length. That was the final straw for me, this wasnt even communicated to me that this could happen, and if it was an accident I'd understand but it feels very weird to me. I don't like the vibes. If she had a question about something she could have texted me and I would have clarified it with her. Don't do something you're uncertain of, its best to just ask for clarity. read more

This salon is a bit hard to find. But find it I did and boy am I happy! To start with, the pet spa in S Washington in Old Town Alexandria broke my pups leg when she was 4 months old. She was in a cast for 7 weeks with no outside activity and mostly crate living with lots of sedation. Naturally, I was hesitant to find a groomer after that experience. I got lucky when I found this spa. Annandale Pet Spa has a staff that is considerate, patient and careful with your pet. They have groomed my Sansa since the horrible experience in Old Town. Joaquin clarifies all the services before he starts. The spa schedules appointments easily on the phone. They also call you as soon as your pet is ready. My Sansa has never returned with any degree of trauma. She is as happy to go there as she is to return to me when I pick her up. Her grooming is perfectly done and she smells great. They are a bit of a distance from where I live, but worth the drive. They are professional and consistent, and gentle with my dog. That's all I can ask for. read more

I chose this groomer based on the reviews, and I am SO glad I did. I have an elderly rescue dog who is very anxious and has a ton of separation anxiety. When anyone who isn't family comes in my home, she hides behind me and begs to be picked up - and that's in my own home! But as soon as I brought her in, everything went smoothly. All my concerns and warnings - like, she WILL bite through a lead or leash in seconds if given a chance! - they agreed as if they took these concerns to be commonplace. They were gentle with her physically and spoke soothingly to her. They called not that long later to say she was ready to go, and I was thrilled with the results. Yes, she was fluffy and clean and smelled sweet - but even better, she was only "normal anxious" to get back to me. She even tolerated being put down to sniff around the place some on leash - and she was completely her normal affectionate self! She even licked the owner's fingers good-bye, which is a very rare sign of favor. Clearly she liked them, and they appreciate her loving nature under the anxiety instead of treating her like some kind of problem child. This was all an hour ago, and she's been herself - but even happier! - ever since, bringing me toys to play with and cuddling even a little more than usual. They did a horrific job on my Doodle. Went from looking cute and handsome to coming home with a weird cartoon like face and a shaved down body - about 1/4 inch. They also left the tail bushy and untrimmed which looks ridiculous - kind of like the tail hanging down from a Raccoon cap. This appeared to be a rush job with a lot of unevenness. I spend a lot of time each day brushing and keeping the mats out so it really hurts to see my dog looking this hideous. This was the third visit, and two out of three have had quality issues. Very inconsistent. The value of this cut is worth only a fraction of the $140 cost. It's not worth rolling the dice on this place and I will not be returning. read more

I've taken my dog here a couple times now, and been pretty pleased. I have a ~25 lb fluffy shelter mutt (sheltie/chow/spaniel?) and it costs about $60 to have her bathed and trimmed down. The owner is great, and was able to fit me in when I called the day before or day of to set up a Friday appointment. I dropped my dog off early in the morning (8ish), and was able to come get her around 2:00. When I picked her up, her tail was wiggling and she knew where to go for treats, so I'm assuming she was spoiled while she was there! The groomer who did her was very knowledgeable and talked to me for a few minutes about what I wanted, to make sure we were on the same page. The only downside is that there were cigarettes on the counter/in pockets, and people looked a little disheveled, but meh...it's appearances. My dog came back pretty and happy (and smelling wonderful!), and that's all that mattered. read more

It has taken me nearly a year to post this, but I think it's important for potential customers to know both the good and the bad of services that businesses provide. I took my dog Bailey, who's a shih tzu to get groomed here last summer. Bailey was a senior dog and had had a seizure during her last grooming appointment due to stress. I had been grooming her at home and was resigned to do so until I met a lady on the street who had her dogs groomed at Annandale Pet Spa and raved about how good the staff was with traumatized animals. Given how much hair Bailey had, I thought I'd give it a chance. I spoke to the specific groomer on the phone that was recommended and laid out Bailey's entire story, including seizures and my concerns with grooming. I would never put my dog in any danger and the only reason I was considering this was because of the expertise of this groomer and my trust that if anything got too intense that they would know to stop. I dropped Bailey off and wrote down her issues on the card provided to give direction, including that she didn't like having her head touched and that she required a lot of patience and may need to take breaks to walk around if it seemed like she was getting stressed. They told me that it would be about 2 hours. This should have been my first red flag as for a dog like Bailey, it should be at least 3, if not 4. I told them not too rush it and to please take time. I received a call about 40 minutes later that Bailey had bitten the groomer and that I should come pick her up. I immediately went over and asked what happened. Apparently one groomer had been forcefully holding her head still while the other was trying to groom between her eyes. I was so upset to hear this as clearly all instruction I gave had been completely disregarded. If they are the experts they claim, it should be obvious when a dog is in distress and the action should be stopped. And if the distress is too much, the entire service should be stopped. But instead of listening to Baileys needs, they went ahead. Based on Bailey's history, this could have caused another seizure, which for a dog her age, could cause death. And again, no regard. When I got there, the woman I presumed was the owner, who was also the one who held her head, said that Bailey was going crazy and that at previous groomers she had worked at, the workers would just slap a dog for acting like that. I was shocked to even hear that and surprised she would even say such a thing to a customer. Of course there was no apology for the trauma that they caused Bailey, nor any real indication of concern for her wellbeing, and on top of everything she charged me $100. This entire experience makes me never want to go to another groomer unless I can hear first hand from someone I trust about their service AND have the grooming set up in a way where I can see. I used to go to Life of Riley in Adams Morgan and they were wonderful. They do their grooming in front of a large glass window so it's easy to see what's going on. They also know when to stop by paying attention to the dog. I moved to VA and was hoping to find another groomer out here for my new adoptee after Bailey passed away, but based on this experience, I will stick with what I know. read more
