Bessie's pet grooming has the friendliest staff. My dog always looks so beautiful and clean when I come to pick her up. They do a great job! They are easy to communicate with. One visit, I wasn't able to pick up my dog until after work and they assured me it was ok and my dog was on the receptionist's lap. Bessie's was a recommendation from a friend after a previous groomer was a complete disaster. I previously used to take my dog to From Head to Tail Grooming Spa in Alexandria until I found out my dog was bucking and hollering while on the grooming table. It turns out the groomer was squeezing his genitals while being groomed, which I had witnessed with my own eyes. I was very hesitant going to Bessie's and my dog never liked the previous groomer. Well I dropped him off for his appointment and called about 2 hours later to see how he was doing - lo and behold they said he was an angel. I picked him up and he LOOKED SO GOOD! I have taken him back since about every 6-8 weeks and they do such a good job there. I cannot recommend Bessie's more!! Absolutely love taking my dog here and he loves the groomers; they are so sweet and understanding with him. They said he is a statue when he's getting groomed!! it was terrible, i ended up having to go to urgent care for my dog because his eyes were bleeding. vet stated it was due to neck trauma , which means there was some choking involved either by hand or lead or had jumped off the table because groomer wasn't paying attention. They denied they even used a lead and said it was just because of stress ?? In the end they didn't want to reimburse me for $400 vet bill that was caused because of treatment at their practice. he has gone to this vet since a puppy he's a little over a year, they've always told me he was a nipper but NEVER recommended sedated grooming. after making them aware that it had to have been neck trauma they stated they didn't use a lead, but how can you not restrain a dog that you know is a nipper??? read more

Honestly, I was shocked at this experience. I was referred here by another groomer and was not prepared for how my dog turned out. His haircut looked ridiculous, long on the top and harsh transition to a shaved stomach. Shaved. He is a cavalier. There was still a small matted area left under his arm and he had a small nick in his armpit. To be fair, I'm not 100% sure they nicked him, but it looks like a cut from a shaver and it's a weird spot to somehow get a small cut. Additionally, his toe pads were shaved too far up and his feet were extremely irritated and some had open wounds. He did come out smelling good, they gave him a cute bandana, and they have standard prices. But this was not a good experience and unfortunately I will not be back. read more

My good friend recently took his puppy to get a haircut, typically routine care for your puppy right? Well not this time, from what my friend told me and seeing his puppy it was a nightmare! First off he had been taking him there for the last 2 years so you would think same cut no issues and quick in and out but no actually the complete opposite. His poor puppy was mangled, hair all uneven, blood stained fur on his belly, and to top it off his poor nails cut so short you could see the nerve. Upon my friend making these discoveries he approached the front desk asking what the reason was for his dog being in the state it was, they tell him "aggressive" dogs are a risk to their business and if his puppy bites them 3 times the have the right to put his puppy down. They then explained that his puppy was extremely aggressive and difficult to control forcing them to muzzle him and them use and chainmail glove to "save their fingers". Now let us recap, my friend was a regular of this groomer for 2 years with no previous issues, his puppy was returned to him looking much less than satisfactory, when speaking with business instead of them taking accountability for their actions blame a dog instead, nothing was offered for poor services but rather the topic of putting my friends puppy down. To me this entire situation could have been avoided if this business held their staff accountable while providing the best service for their customers and their fur babies. When you arrive at Bessie's you're greeted by a couple of happy customers (dogs). Rather then being kept in crates, dogs are allowed to mingle and play until it's their turn to be groomed. I have always had my Labs given a summer shave but hadn't found anyone to do it locally. Until I found Bessie. She gave my Lab mix the greatest cut I've ever seen! She's an absolute artist. I unfortunately have to write a very negative review at the moment for an incident that happened this past tuesday March 14th. When I arrived everything was normal, like every other time I've gone before, we discussed plans for the haircuts and then I left. Around 12:40 I received a call that my dogs would be ready to go around 1 and that was it. As I arrived, I was given two out of the three of my dogs and was getting ready to pay when the receptionist/cashier let me know that there was a "little" problem which was that the groomers almost choked out my smaller dog, they began to tell me he had collapsed and was not breathing, and needed compressions. I was still charged for all three dogs and then had to rush my own dog to the emergency room to be seen where he had shown up with bloodshot eyes and a purple tongue. I think it is absolutely ridiculous that this has happened and why was I not told when this happened is mind blowing. I'm fortunate enough that he is still with us but please be careful taking your dog here, as this can happen to anyone and you may or may not be told about the harm you are putting you're babies in the care of. read more

I went this past weekend for my five month old cockapoo puppy, and Bessie did a great job! I have been trying to find a new groomer for my puppy, as a previous groomer I took him to told me he was too anxious to get the full body groom done, yet still took four hours to groom him and charged me exorbitantly for only a bath, nails, and shaving his underside -- most of which I would be able to do myself. I wanted to find a groomer who would take the time to keep him calm and work with him to get him comfortable to cut his hair, since he was starting to get pretty shaggy and it's getting warmer. She only took 1-2 hours to get him fully groomed, and the before and after look great! Her pricing was also very reasonable, and I even got a new client $10 discount! a sweet small dog who was rescued over a year ago. she is very well cared for and groomed regularly. she was brought to bessies grooming for the first - and only time ever. the pup was kept in a cage for seven hours- with no grooming performed and no call to the owner. a call from the owner to Bessies grooming that afternoon revealed that her pup's grooming for nails, glands, ears and her fur-trim would be done in the one hour before closing. The groomer rushed through everything. she then stated that the dog was matted, which was entirely untrue. then she stated that the pup tried to bite her, but there was no mark whatsoever. this is a five year old pup who is gentle and loving with everyone. no aggressive behavior was ever observed. when she was picked up, the dog was frantic. she remained under the bed for two days! this is inexcusable. bessies groomers has no care or concern for your pup. Our Standard Poodles cut was done perfectly and without stress, which is important for a nervous rescue dog. A minor miscommunication brought about an issue, that was immediately and expertly fixed.
