Been coming here for years for self service dog wash. The place is located near Shirlington dog park so a lot of owners take their dogs to the park and then to the wash. 5 stars for location! The place gets busy on weekends - expect to wait up to 30 minutes. Prices are super reasonable and they have a loyalty program which adds up to a free wash. The place gets humid and smelly during the summer. (I don't think the air conditioning and circulation work well.) You get what you pay for in terms of cleanliness. The staff is friendly and always willing to help. Parking can be challenging. You might need to park up the hill where the townhomes are and walk down. read more

Great, no frills spot for a self dog-wash station! Staff was very friendly and patient while I struggled to get my stubborn dog into the tub. They provide everything you need, including 4 different shampoos, towels, treats, brushes, ear cleaning solution, and a heavy duty dryer (that my dog was terrified of - pro tip hold it far away from them and use it at the low setting). It's nice that you don't have to worry about cleaning the tub or floor afterwards too, they'll take care of it. I do just wish the parking situation was better, but it's nice that it's right by the shirlington dog park so if I'm ever there and he gets gross, it's a place to stop by on the way home. read more

TERRIBLE....My Pomeranian went to Muddy Mutts for a groom. She can home more upset than usual. Her ears were shaved back to the skin, and I think what happened is that the groomer slipped and nicked her ear, then shave the ears to cover up the error. That ear fur will never grow back. I tried to dispute the charge from my bank, but Muddy Mutts refuted wrongdoing and the bank told me to contact law enforcement. Honestly have zero complaints about Muddy Mutt. I've come here throughout the years any time I move back to dc/md. Recently came during winter because my new apartment is small and completely white so washing my dogs in my bathroom means dog hair gets everywhere and is easily seen due to everything being white lol. It was such a relief to come here again. It used to be $16 and now is $18 which isn't that bad at all. Super convenient and honestly wish I lived closer to it. read more

I have been bringing my dog here for years to do a self wash after my dog plays in Shirlington Park. Today I walked in for the first time in several months and was shocked by the deplorable conditions in the washroom. The tubs are falling apart there is black mold everywhere there was not a clean towel in sight. I found one deshedding brush with a broken handle and the floors were so wet, I could barely walk around. I asked the receptionist for some towels and she promptly brought some and then I asked about brushes and was told there weren't any because people keep stealing them. I asked to speak with a manager and she could not have cared less about my concerns. I hope they plan to remodel quickly and this is temporary because it's such a convenient location, but I literally felt myself getting sick with all the mold while I was there for 20 minutes to make matters worse they raise the prices as the place is going downhill. I've been going over a year (every 6 weeks) and get the same treatment every time. I went most recently and they made a mistake by not giving my dog the de-shedding treatment I asked for. When I spoke with them they blamed me for the treatment being wrong (despite having them book the exact same package every single visit) and then charged me more money because they tried to brush it. They never apologized or admitted their mistake and they didn't even offer to comp me for part of the treatment. Will never return. Terrible customer service. All I needed was an apology and a small gesture to make it right and they would have a continuing customer. Hostile service has ruined this business. read more

Super convenient, affordable , self service dog wash right next to the Shirlington Dog park. Stopped by after an impromptu trip to the dog park where the dogs decided to go splashing in the creek and got SUPER dirty and wanted to get them cleaned up before heading home. We had 4 dogs...and was able to get in pretty quickly. Things I loved: - super quick to get a tub even though it was pretty busy. (I believe there were about 5 stations so enough to keep the line moving) - staff was super kind and helpful in getting the dogs set up and providing additional supplies as needed - all of the tools you'll need to groom your pup (hose, three or four different shampoos), brushes, dryer, towels and stuff to clean their ears - very bright and clean in there (considering it's a place to get pups clean) - GREAT prices. I paid $32 for 2 self service baths which is 1000% cheaper than a spa. - they have some decent treats for your pups for purchase (which were also reasonably priced) Overall, such a great, affordable, conveniently located self Grooming place. I have been taking my dog here for two years. Last time I took my dog sadly disappointed me. I scheduled a 1 on 1 which usually takes 2 hours but my dog was there for 4 hours and a half. When I called I was only responded with bad attitude from the employees. The receptionist thought she put me on hold and she went to talk who I was supposed to have a 1 on 1 with and her words weren't polite. she didn't have any urgency in her voice and seemed to be bothered. When the groomer that I requested answered she said "it's one of those days". The point of 1 on 1 is for my dog not to be crated and yet he was. Also it was a $200 haircut that my dog didn't seem to get. I could hear him outside crying because of a careless mistake that they could've handled better. read more

I asked the two young ladies at the front if they were aware there was mold at the back of the refrigerator in their public space. One of them, a heavy set woman with long red-orange hair, quickly dismissed me, nearly rolling her eyes, while the other, though polite, replied, "Yes. We'll tell the owner." I simply followed up with, "That's pretty serious, especially since you all are out here breathing that in all day." They then turned to each other, started whispering, and laughed, clearly mocking me right there. It's not even the first time I've encountered attitude from the front desk for no apparent reason. Usually, I chalk it up to them being kids and let it slide. Not today. And honestly, I don't need my dog breathing in mold either. Safe to say, this will be my last visit here. read more

I called a few weeks ago and tried to make an appointment to see Leti, the dog groomer who has saved my puppies from awful hair so many times I can't even count. The girl at the counter (she seemed really inexperienced and it was unnerving) said Leti was booked up for 6 months. I talked to Leti later, and she was so confused because this was not true. I dont know why they lied to me? It doesn't make sense but was vary upsetting. I find this to be a really irresponsible business practice. I am a loyal Leti customer, and I know there are a lot more out there. Hugely disappointed. read more

I came in for a grooming visit and they failed to notify me that they needed updated vaccine records which is I completely understand you need them to take a dog but when I asked why wasn't I notified the girl simply said you should have been I'm not sure why you weren't. I didn't have a copy of her records available because there's no digital portal for my vet. She let me know I wouldn't lose my deposit but I could move it to a new day. I asked for a refund because I needed my dog bathed today so I would just do it myself at home. She said that wasn't possible and when I asked to speak to the manager she said she's not here but she'll tell you the same thing. When I said that's fine I'll just call my credit card company, she looked down, smirked/giggled under her breath while texting on her phone and told me to have a good day. When I said you don't need to smirk at me when I'm clearly standing right here and she just looked at me and as I walked out I asked her name Fernanda/o I believe she said but she had long curly hair young girl. As I left I heard her say it's not my fault you don't have the records. They've always done a good job grooming my dog but honestly after how rudely I was treated I will not be back. This is a great place where you can wash your dog at a reasonable price. They provide shampoo, cologne, ear cleaning solution, brushes, and combs. You can also use their aprons you don't get wet. We opted to get them to cut our dog's nails and that was a really easy process. They have some kibble you can use to help keep your dog calm when giving them a bath or getting their nails trimmed. They give you a punchcard where your seventh or eighth wash is free (I can't remember exactly how many until you get a free wash). I will be coming back! read more

More like 3.5 stars. No frills place to wash your pup and the attendants were customer centric. We were told we'd be given towels, but they didn't have any that finished drying which is not their fault. Next time we will bring our own towels and I noticed other people did too. There is a high speed blow dryer that gets the job done. Although they do have shampoo, we brought our own with our grooming brushes. It was a busy early Sunday afternoon when we arrived and were given 45 minutes for our two small dogs. This place is conveniently located next to a dog park entrance. Don't wear nice shoes as there were puddles in the wash room which was not surprising given what it is. And oh, wear the apron they have available. I saw a person whose shirt and jeans were all wet as she did not wear one. Solid place to wash your dog, just don't expect anything fancy. The attendants do a good job of washing down the bathtub before the next customer. Would come back for the convenience. read more

After playing at the shirlington dog park, we came upon this place to bathe our half husky pup. We have been having issues with our normal groomer so haven't found anywhere else to go so decided to chance the self wash here. We've had doggie self washes at our apartments before so this was similar but had more amenities to offer. We came in and there were a few dogs waiting but we were able to get a spot right away since ours was smaller and there was a tub available. We were walked in and got set up. Now the only con I have thus far was that nothing was explained on where things are or how to use. We figured it out but asking if this was our first time or something would've been great. This was great because our pup sheds so much and bathing her at home is a pain. Would definitely come back! *DO NOT GO FOR HANDSTRIPPING* My experience with the Muddy Mutt ended up being disappointing on a few levels, and I wanted to like this place because it was conveniently located close to my home. I called and asked specifically about hand stripping my Irish Terrier and explained that my dog had NEVER been clipped before. The receptionist said they absolutely could do a full hand strip my dog but I would need to wait nearly a month for an appointment because only Leddy does hand stripping. When I get there, Leddy says she didn't know she had to hand strip my dog because the receptionist never put it in the notes. I waited a month specifically because I wanted hand stripping and the groomer was not even aware. To accommodate me they gave me a free self dog wash and we rescheduled. When I arrived, I reiterated that my dog has never been clipped. No one ever said at that point, "well we hand strip and clip or we clip these particular areas." Because if they did, I would have gotten the hell up out of there. My dog has been hand stripped her whole 6 years of life for a REASON. When they brought my dog out, at first I thought she looked cute. But when I observed her closely, I saw that my dog had been clipped all over. Her signature Irish Terrier beard had been shaved down. The fur on her back was choppy from the clippers. And she was a wheaten color, not the red she is when her blown coat is removed. When I complained, they said there was nothing they could do about it. When I asked for the supervisor, they said she's on maternity leave. Then they bid me goodbye with a half smile. It has been over a month and my dog's coat is a different texture, a lighter color, and her beard has not grown back. These people lied to me. Their knowledge of their own services and prices are lacking. They charged me the price for hand stripping which is more expensive, and maybe pulled some fur here and there, but they cut corners and relied HEAVILY on clippers. I believe they ruined my dog's double coat and got paid a pretty penny to do so. I am super angry and disappointed. I would avoid this place if you are looking for hand stripping and straightforward, honest communication. read more

This place is just fantastic on so many levels. The self wash is easy and generally quick (if you don't go in at peak times), but the "we wash" option where they take care of your pet is great. If you love your dog, on Google read the not so good reviews because they're probably true. My review is there too, as RD. I know this because my little dog was injured at The Muddy Mutt and the owner and the manager have been rude, ugly, defensive and dismissive! I can't find out exactly what happened because no one will tell me aside from what is going on by my little dog's vet. Since this summer, my "rescue dog" has been suffering! I have been ghosted by the owner and the groomer who had been there years and who left soon after my little dog was HURT while being bathed or groomed at The Muddy Mutt! My post/review on Google is under RD from July 2024, the month my dog's young life changed for the worse and probably forever! Neither the owner, of about five years, or the staff that has changed for the worst, care about your dog(s)! They are rude because they know they can be because the owner is rude, immature and heartless based on my personal and shocking experience within our email exchanges. She and the rude manager refused to have an adult discussion over the phone! Their email to me was unprofessional and defensive, following having seen my review on Google. There was no regard for my dog or her pain! There just was no regard for my dog and I did not slam them on Google, just advised dog lovers and owners to pay close attention to how their dog is acting and how they're trying to communicate with them in their own way. To you folks reading this, please to not be blinded by convenience or the positive reviews. I guess just see my review on Google, written in general terms not specifics what was done to my dog because they won't tell me what exactly has caused her suffering since July 2024 and i emailed again Dec 2024 and went in person with someone, only to get the run around the owner. I reiterate, find a place that is not overwhelmed by the number of dogs to the point where their safety is at risk. This has been and absolutely horrible ordeal for my little one and for me!! Rescue dogs, in particular, have suffered enough without being re-traumatized by a business whose owner and most of the staff does not appear to care! There is a standing adoption event by Lucky Dogs which takes place in Shirlington, near Muddy Mutt. Some random person sent me there for their self-bathing option when I got her directly off transport. I gently bathed my little as we got to quickly know each other under those circumstances. That said, self bathing anywhere is convenient. As for grooming, the best groomer (I thought) resigned from Muddy Mutt to do her own thing but it was the timing.... My dog's cut was not like the usual one so who knows groomed my dog and who hurt my little one! I paid extra for one on one so there is no kennel drying and those risks. I believe once, given my dog's poofed out coat and anxiety level, my little one was put in there, now that I am fully aware of the owner and staff's clear lack of regard! They hurt my dog and we are nearing six months and I can not get a clear answer. As a rescue pet, you don't really know what abuses, emotionally or otherwise they may gave suffered but you give them a better and a safer home. The owner of The Muddy Mutt has chosen to withhold much needed information regarding my dog's well-being, willfully and deliberately and there are cameras in the bathing areas and everywhere! It is cruel! It is animal abuse, in my opinion, a reportable offense! I'd welcome any advice out there as well!! read more

I've taken my dog here for a walk-in nail trim and was surprised that they didn't require a muzzle since he's so nervous about getting his nails touched. This was a huge plus!
