Update: To clarify THE INCIDENT IS NOT THE ISSUE. It is the terrible service from ADDO. I never stated that ADDO didn't call. It is the fact that I repeatedly asked for guidance since she was picked up with her ear bleeding more than the "nip" I was informed of. It was ADDO's that became more and more unresponsive after I notified them about how bad it was when we got her. ------------------- We used ADDO for a year. Recently, our dog was boarded and I received a call she was bitten. Long story short. After notifying me that my dog was bitten, their response rate decreased until they no longer responded to calls or emails. This boarding facility can't be trusted as I was concerned and needed guidance and it sounds like they just want to cover their own behinds and don't care about the dog. read more

TL;DR - THE SUMMARY I was initially pleased w/ ADDO Springfield until they became unresponsive and demonstrated a basic inability to care for my dog, leaving me questioning everything. Specifically, while at their facility, my dog sustained a bite that was allowed to fester and get infected during his time in their care. - On 17 Feb 2023, My dog sustained a bite at ADDO Springfield, I was notified it was minor, and they would take steps to take care of it - Picked him up as scheduled on 22 Feb 2023, met him with a patch of clumped fur that smelled foul and was oozing pus (as acknowledged by the Mgr on duty) - On the morning of 24 Feb 2023, the vet confirmed and revealed an infected wound. - I sent an email to ADDO on the afternoon of 24 Feb 2023 requesting a meeting with the owners and manager. - The email - "Subject: Request to Speak About [Dog's Name] Bite Sustained 17 Feb 2023" was sent for a total of 4 messages: x3 -- 1 every 24 hours in succession and a 4th and final one on 28 2023 Feb days after the others, indicating that I would escalate. - As of of the posting of this message, I have not received communication from ADDO Springfield. Since it's a privately owned business that has failed to respond in a reasonable amount of time, I'm using this review as the only escalation mechanism available in this situation. *** TS; WM - THE DETAILS This review is meant to inform other pet parents of my experience, concerns, and observed shortcomings. Given the circumstances, I've done my best to present the facts and withhold emotion. I've waited this long, 1) in part to see if ADDO Springfield would ever contact me (they have not) and 2) to create distance from the incident. I believe that every pet parent who uses ADDO Springfield or is considering using them should know that a signed release of liability does not equal the release of a reasonable expectation to pet care by ADDO Springfield. Simply washing and observing the injury my pet sustained while in the care of ADDO Springfield would've avoided this infection (see the above description and attached photos). The fact that ADDO Springfield's team and protocols allowed this injury -- that my pet sustained while in their care -- to fester into infection made me wonder what other basic elements of care this team is not performing that we pet parents are unaware of. Realistically, the bite wound just needed to be observed and kept clean. My signed agreement also has a credit card on file and an agreement for it to be used for care. I was never informed that the bite was infected nor asked if I wanted to use the card for a vet. I trusted that when the team said they would care for it, they would. I followed ADDO Springfield's norm: no news is news. Meaning, they call you for immediate issues or let you know of minor non-health-related items upon pick-up. The lack of response to my requests to understand what happened and how to prevent it left me deeply disappointed and even more concerned about ever having them care for my pet. Additionally, this establishment had ample time to get back to me. My request to meet expressly stated that I wanted to meet to 1) understand the protocols and how this could've happened and could be prevented in the future, 2) what exactly happened the day of the incident, and 3) exactly what actions/care was taken days after the incident, preceding my return to pick up my dog. I provided three (3) written email requests, with the final one sent on 28 Feb 2023. As of the posting date of this review, I never heard back from anyone at ADDO Springfield. Note: Before posting this, I called to confirm they received the messages, the employee answering indicated that he sent my email to the owners who told him they would call me. A friendly and clean facility run by people who love dogs. Our pup is excited when he arrives and pooped when he gets home.

My dog goes to doggy daycare here on occasion. Having a 5-pack of passes that you can drop off your pup anytime is very helpful as sometimes my schedule is very last minute and hectic. My dog always ends up nice and tired after a few hours (or an entire workday) of playing with all her friends there. Not five stars because I wish pet parents could have an on demand live video feed of the rooms like some other daycares offer. It's nice to have that peace of mind sometimes. Also since they are independently franchised out you cannot transfer your credits or passes very easily between locations. read more

Our last 3 Westies have all been happy at A Dog's Day Out. I love that I can leave Monty for 3 hours, or half or full day without a reservation, unlike other day cares. He comes home and collapses on the kitchen floor - a tired dog is ALWAYS a happy dog!! My dog has been going to ADDO for almost 6 years now and absolutely loves it! Every time I go to pick her up she tries to run back and continue playing. She's always tired out, which is the best. We have often used ADDO in Springfield in the past with our other dogs. We have just adopted a 4 yr old mini dachshund, Sadie. We know little about her experiences with other dogs. She has had a few days of ADDO day care now. At drop off we ask the attendant to let us know her reaction to other small dogs. Each time we have picked her up, a new attendant is at the desk tells us 'Sadie did fine'. This past Friday, we dropped Sadie off and discussed our concerns of no report of details of Sadie's day with the desk attendant, Henry. Henry took the time to listen to our comments and reassured us that we would get a full report on return. I am not sure if Henry made it a point to be there and stay later than his shift, but we really appreciate him. He gave details of Sadie's behavior with other dogs, and even reported that he asked the other attendants about her precious visits. What a wonderful employee. We will definitely return with such caring attendants. Thank you Henry! read more

I have 3 Bernese mountain dogs and learned a hard lesson about getting what you pay for. We had been going to old town pet resort which is farther and a tiny bit more expensive. My experience here was dreadful. The customer service was horrible. When I picked my dogs up 270 dollars later they were still matted behind the ears, didn't have staff to do their nails and we're still wet. Upon brushing them at home they obviously weren't brushed out as well. We were granted a 5 discount for the nails. This doesn't make up for the cost elsewhere we will be paying for a trim. Also doesn't offset the 15 veal fee per dog. Facility smells of urine and the staff member lost control of my dog upon bringing him out. We had to chase him down to releash and collar him. Not safe. Started bringing my very active puppy here once a week at 6 months to give my grumpy senior dog a break from her. She is always welcomed by the staff and LOVES to go! After a 3 hour play session, she comes home happy, tired and relaxed. The free-style exposure to other dogs (all up to date on their shots) seems to have made her calmer around the dogs she meets on our walks. I'm so glad we have this place nearby! read more

Facility is always clean and our dog loves going to play. But, if you bring your own food for boarding, the staff cannot read instructions. She was supposed to get one scoop twice daily and they doubled it. So basically they fed her 4 cups of food in one day. Good thing she wasnt being boarded longer than a day and half. read more

I love this place for my Lab Shadow. She has been going to ADDO since she was 12 weeks old. She has moved from the small dog/puppy room to the medium room and now plays with the big dogs. Shadow had surgery for a torn CCL (human ACL) which did not happen at ADDO. When she was able to return to ADDO, the staff watched out for her and kept her in the medium size dog room for a couple of weeks as part of her final rehab. I would not board my Shadow anywhere else. I love the no cage environment. She frequently goes for "play group" for 3 hours. She comes home exhausted. The socialization and manners she has acquired make her a well rounded canine. I can't say enough good things about the staff. There is always someone with the dogs to stop aggressive behaviors. This day care is a hidden gem and I love love love them. read more

We've been bringing our dogs here for about two years and were always happy with the service but now that Justin is no longer the manager, things have changed. The staff seems disorganized and inattentive. I just called to make a reservation for boarding and I had to tell her things 5 and 6 times, she kept getting my dogs mixed up (one has behavioral issues and can NOT go into day care) and I had to tell her the dates 3 or 4 times. Not giving me a lot of confidence that my dogs will be well cared for while we're gone. I may try another location or cancel the reservation and find another arrangement. UPDATE: the owner saw my post above and took the time to contact me about my concerns which I really appreciate. I feel confident that they're working on these issues and I'm going to stick with them for a while longer because previously we were very happy. read more

We have used ADDO Springfield periodically over the past four years and were happy with the care except for our last visit in early October 2020. We boarded our dog over a long weekend, and arrived early Monday to pick him up. No one answered the door, and it was clear that, although it was supposed to have opened an hour earlier, no one was present inside. It took numerous calls to finally reach the manager, who apologized but said a staff member had had a med emergency and no alternate coverage had been arranged. When we finally got our dog yet another hour later when someone finally arrived, instead of being excited to see us he was shaking, evidently having been left in his kennel not only overnight but until mid-morning without care or company. We were very displeased and will not return. read more

I would give ADDO 10 starts if I could. Although I already rated 5 stars in a previous review, ADDO definitely deserves a follow-up shout out. We recently left our boys here for 8 days while we were out of the country. They were fantastic accommodating this neurotic momma. They recommended we set up alternate emergency POCs and made sure our vet info was up to date. I have no doubt that should anything have gone wrong they would have been treated as if our boys belonged to them. This was the longest we've every left our boys anywhere. We were extremely nervous. It was all for nothing!! They both came home exhausted and HAPPY!!! You've heard the saying a tired dog is a happy dog. This is especially important to us because one of our boys is dog aggressive and although he can be socialized it is a process. They accommodate his issues and keep him separated without making him feel ostracized thus keeping everyone's fur babies safe!!! Although he doesn't get play time with the other dogs he is SPOILED ROTTEN by the staff. Lots of people time. Lot's of play time. They even walk, sleep and exercise our boys (90lbs each) together to minimize separation anxiety. I swear its like going to gramma's house for them!!!! read more

My girl comes here at least once a week, and has been a happy patron for over 7 months. She is happy, exhausted, intact, and doesn't smell too much worse after coming home from here than other places. I'm convinced they used her to mop the floor at another place in Fairfax. They feed her and keep her safe here, she's only ever come up with a few knicks, meaning there's microscopic evidence that she did have a fun day of play. For about $25 a day (b/c I get the passes) she'll be exhausted and spent for a few days because she doesn't know how to sit out of any of the fun to be had here. They segregate based on size after a sufficient evaluation process which tests the dog's interaction with a stranger, then a stranger and one dog, then in a play area with a few dogs with others crated/barking/spectating around the perimeter. Then a free for all. They have some plastic playground items for them to climb and jump on (ramps/stairs/bridges). There aren't any toys or balls for them to play with to minimize prevent toy aggression and possessiveness. Dogs that are less friendly with others are still able to attend daycare here, there are kennels to make sure they're separate from others but still have humans to look after them during the day. I wish they had a webcam and an outdoor space, but I'm very pleased with all this is available here. Their staff always gives me an update to let me know how she does at the end of the day and whether or not any trouble was encountered or if she had tons of fun with her furry friends. I found this doggie day care when I moved to Springfield. My German Shepherd has separation anxiety and wasn't the most doggie social dog. They gave her two visits to get used to the other dogs. They were very patient with her and now she loves it. The staff has been very friendly with me too. I love this place almost as much as Marie, the wonder dog. read more

This is an update to my previous review on 4/1/17. Charlie Richardson, the owner of ADDO in Springfield took the time to contact me on his own and provide his sincere apology for the incident that occurred at his property. During this conversation, Charlie expressed his plans to work directly with his staff there to ensure incidences such as the one our dog experienced and also the poor customer service provided by his young staff will be a priority to correct. As part of this apology, Charlie also agreed to pay 1/2 the cost of the vet bill we were told we must pay from this incident. This in itself shows a sense of concern and sincerity towards the proper treatment of customers using his facility and hopefully with better staffing, ADDO Springfield will again have the stellar reputation it had when we first boarded our dogs there when it first opened 3 years ago. I've been taking my little guy (5 month old pug) here for the past 2 months and it's been awesome. I haven't had an issue with any of the staff members that other reviews have mentioned as everyone has been extremely helpful, open and caring for my puppy. The only thing about this location (and is only meant to be a tip) is the lack of smaller dogs from time to time. I end up calling in to see who is there (are there small dogs or not) and the staff is very well versed in knowing which small dogs are playful, not playful, etc that can match up to my puppy's energy level. It's also worth mentioning that my dog goes there and comes home pooped. He doesn't make a single peep and falls fast asleep after barely staying awake to eat his dinner after doggy daycare. I've even had times where he dragged his feet to go potty one last time before the evening because he was sooooo tired from the daycare. All in all, I recommend this location and it's a plus if you have a medium or large dog since I often see more than I see small dogs. read more

I've had good experiences with this location. When I first moved into my new apartment, we brought our dogs here for multiple full day daycare and they seemed to like it. We boarded our younger dog here for a long weekend and she did fine, ate all her food and didn't seem to show any anxiety. Booking was easy and price is reasonable for cage free care. Staff is friendly and accommodating. I also don't worry about my dogs getting into fights or anything like that as the staff seems to be on top of the dogs behavior and I'l think they do a good job evaluating when they decide what dogs to take. The only thing I would criticize is the fact that they don't have outdoor areas for the dogs to do their business, but that seems to be the case for every daycare really. Dogs never smell bad when they come home and it hasn't affected their house training at all. The actual place doesn't smell either. Dogs seem happy to go in, older one is slightly nervous sometimes but the staff is able to coax her through it and if she seems very nervous they mover her to the medium size dog area with her sister (she is 75lb) because she behaves there and seems more comfortable with medium sized dogs. Overall I really don't have any issues with this place and I'll continue to bring my dogs here when needed. read more

I just had my dog here for the first time last week, and was so impressed that I put her there the whole weekend while I was away. I have a "reactive on-leash" dog and I was very nervous to have her out for doggy daycare, I originally had planned on kenneling her there for the day while she had to be out of my apartment. When I left, they did an evaluation on her and she passed so she got to stay out and play with the other dogs. I was so happy that they didn't discriminate at all when I had explained the way she acts around other dogs while on leash, they know what they are doing when evaluating their behavior and I trusted them to do so! I am so relieved that she is able to play with the other dogs, and I have already noticed a difference with her behavior on leash now after socializing for a few days. I will 100% be coming back here on a weekly basis for my dog to play with the others, and I trust this team with caring for her while I am away. Thumbs up! My only recommendation is that they get a camera system that allows the owners to check in on their dogs through the website, I am so interested in seeing her play with the others while I am at work! :) read more
