DO NOT SHOP HERE.... unethical owner! they sold me Dog food that was 5 months PAST expiration date. I noticed when I got home and returned to store a few hours later (same day) to return and get refund. they could see the transaction on my account, verify, but owner refused to refund the purchase. The store customer service is EXCELLENT. Unfortunately, the grooming is lacking (NOT the groomers personally, the lack of technique). The prices are just ok. I've had many issues with multiple groomers, not doing the basic grooming practices offered by the store. Not cleaning ears, not filing nails (always requested) trimming too short, too long, never evenly. This last appointment was by far the worst when I picked up a wet dog with coiled hair due to the lack of drying and brushing. I don't blame the groomers. They just need more training. I'd be willing to pay more for proper grooming if they'd make sure their employees are getting what they need to be successful! read more

I was greeted by Scott the owner when I came in with my birdie backpack that day to purchase two parakeets. Had a little brief conversation with him and he was in fact the owner. It's good to see somebody engaged in the business. I showed him the parakeet but I wanted and he deftly and quickly assisted me with getting them into my bag. The birds are healthy and reasonably well adjusted despite the fact that parakeets are known to be anxious. The owner does actually go and take pets to the vet who end up sick and has a lot of care for the animals that are in his store. With all of this said I was very very pleased at my visit and will be back in the future to support them 100% better than Petco and PetSmart. read more

Great selection of higher end pet foods including frozen raw diets. Their fish tanks are well maintained with healthy looking fish. Groomer always seems to be enjoying her job even with a grumpy cat I saw her grooming on my last visit. The employees have always been friendly and helpful. A great addition to our neighborhood. Their rewards card is free and offers additional coupons, discounts and points toward offers. Simple sign up. I have no affiliation with the store but have worked at veterinary offices and pet stores for a good portion of my life so I am familiar with how they run. read more

They don't update their supposed care sheets about animals and last week I had bought 6 guppies in which two of them passed away I did a water test came back everything is perfect I hadn't done a water change that day of getting them neither the time they were in my tank (I have a 75 gallon... it was literally just the four guppies in there one betta and one Cory) and as everyone in the hobby knows the bigger the tank the less issues it will have with the water parameters... Anyways I go to get a replacement for the guppies and brought a cup of the tank water to prove my tank was healthy... I'm not sure what that male managers name was but if you see this go f^ yourself, this is the second time being deservingly rude about a manager but probably the first time cursing in a post... the guy proceeded to ask me so many questions about my tank etc and when I answered he nit picked my tank routine thoroughly, if my routine was bad then my tank would have reflected that... nothing was wrong with my bio load I have a sponge filter and used it previously before we had to reset the tank due to moving some stuff around in which we kept the microbiome and the filter healthy and fine so obviously this filter was more than prepared for 6 (eight counting the Cory and betta) measly fish especially since I used to have angelfish and other varieties before I had to give them up when I moved the tank around... when I mentioned the Cory that's been there since the start of the redo of the tank he explained it away saying that "there's always one fish that survives a nuclear blast"... except mine didn't mine was placed in a fully cycled tank with a heater and with plants and has always been a happy and active lil guy we feed our fish a variety of foods including blood works at least once a week all foods in rotation (flakes, bloodworms, pellets, wafers if it's not live we give it as long as it's healthy) Either way that manager was awful and should show more respect to their customers instead of trying everything in his power to put the blame on me, I test my tank water once a week I'd know if anything was absolutely wrong with my tank in any way shape or form, he had the audacity to use not one test strip but then use a whole test KIT as if I was lying about something... dude is a whole POS that shouldn't be in the aquarium industry let alone in the pet/sales industry if he doesn't know what he's doing. This video I posted is the exact video I showed him I took it in the same day I went in to get replacements... oh and u know the best part? The replacements died... a lot of the fish there are dying for random reasons and they have fish that aren't even compatible with each other together, ironic how the two replacements that passed away would be my fault according to this b^stard. If you in particular are reading this, leave the job... I'd do a far better job taking your place guaranteed since I know how to work with costumers and I know proper animal care unlike your POS self... don't forget that your care sheets literally explain how to abuse rodents and other animals you have available. I'm editing my review... I found out the other day that the POS guy was ironically the owner. Don't be in the pet industry if u don't know how to take care of animals, you're gonna end up like that pet store that was in Hampton/newport news area that pet lovers were successful to shut down. You deserve all the bad things that come your way, oh and btw I heard from other reviews that your wife's a bitch... I guess yall attract what you put out, worthless pos. Another edit: they pretend to care they ask people to call them but the number they give goes straight to the store... I don't want to talk to the owner of that store because it's clear he thinks he's correct to treat his customers the way he does... if you're gonna try and make things right then at least put some actual effort, if there's someone above that sad label of an "owner" there then I'd rather speak with them rather than the same POS that will just continue getting defensive and causing more problems... it's sad that the female managers there clearly are understanding and costumer orientated vs the pathetic owner, you know that says a lot about a business when the person "in charge" knows less than the managers he hired. read more

I bought a Glofish about a month ago which died after a week. When I went back to the store to replace it, they asked for a receipt, but I didn't have it, and bought a new Glofish. I have 4 in my tank at home which are about a year old and doing fine, but the second replacement died as well. I brought the receipt in for a replacement or refund, but a different manager said I needed to bring the fish in to prove I wasn't looking for a free fish. My fish and cat supply shopping will be elsewhere. read more

Once again, I'm checking out and I am accosted the owner refuses to sell me cat food, knowing that I take care of 53 cats in the Yorktown, Williamsburg and James City County area and I walk out of his store. He comes out after me up to my car because apparently he thinks he owns the parking lot, it does explain everything that I've been told about these owners. He wants to try to put words in peoples mouth and he does cater to the nonprofit. But individuals like myself that do not get help he does not want to help. As a matter of fact, he just turned my business away, and I didn't say one word out of line to Scott, the owner, while his smug wife stood there let's not forget that I always buy donation food for the homeless shelters, so not only did he keep things away from my homeless animals he kept donations away from the shelters to- I'm guessing he let his pride stand in the way of helping homeless animals such a shame people like that shouldn't own pet stores read more

I bought a dirty dog discount card 2 weeks ago and misplaced it. When I came into the store today I asked the associate working the counter what I could do about it. She was able to pull up (with my phone number) the purchase but was unsure about the protocol. Then asked 2 other associates to help her and neither of them knew what to do either. The only thing they could tell me was to wait for the owner to get back from his break. So I stood there and waited. When the owner came back he said "sorry but theres no way for me to track it". So he just made a good $40.00 off of me for NOTHING in return. Didn't even offer me 1 wash for the 40.00 I clearly paid. Don't you think someone would recognize me if I had been in there that frequently to use up all the washes I paid for in 2 weeks?! And it seems there's no protocol on this, he just said what came to mind right then & there. I was warned to stay away from this place but they carry my dogs food and it's in a convenient location, but I'll be sure to drive out of my way to get anything my dog needs from now on. And I will be sure to tell anyone I know to STAY AWAY from this place. Coming from someone who works in retail, the first words out of your mouth to a customer are never "there's nothing I can do", especially not being the owner. Prices are far higher than Harris Teeter, just a few feet away. Plus they have a lot of sale signs up but tiny little print says "with card". I don't want one of your shopper cards so I guess I'm not considered a valuable customer? Not impressed. read more
