I stopped in primarily to view the cat room. I had heard about this store from the Virginia Cat Festival last fall, and was curious to check them out while in the area. Before entering the cat area, a friendly worker had us sign electronic waivers. There were plenty of places to sit and toys to play with the cats from Heritage. I will say it wasn't my favorite cat room, however, as it didn't feel ventilated at all and it smelled strongly. I think perhaps if they add some air flow or clean the litter boxes more often that could help. The cats themselves were cute and I was very tempted to adopt Loodles, specifically! Precious girl. Once I was finished in the cat area, I stepped back into the shop and browsed. I saw a cute treat dispenser, so I purchased that along with a catit fountain. I haven't tried the fountain yet, but I did notice that it was $8 cheaper than I paid at other retailers, so that was pretty disappointing. I'm just chalking it up to supporting a small business. Hopefully the cats like it, as they ignored the last fountain I purchased! My orange does love the treat dispenser and has largely figured it out, so that's been a success. They also had some cute toys, and I bought a little birthday cake toy that I gave to one of my cats on his birthday about a week back. He's still playing with it, so that's a good sign! Overall, I think this is a great space that could be excellent with a few tweaks. I appreciate what they do to help pets. read more

Be wary they hire people that are pitbull apologists, the store is way too tight and confrontational too they need a better floor plan, prices are a bit high as well but they have a large selection of good products here too. Be wary of one lady in there too that they hired, idk what her name is but she certainly has a discriminatory view on properly bred dogs which irritated me, basically blaming proper breeders for the issues in shelters instead of backyard breeders and ignoring the fact that pitbulls cause over 60% of fatalities every single year calling "German shepherds more dangerous than pitbulls" just because of the bite psi.. they are third on the listen karen, get it right, if ur gonna argue about something like that and be in the shelter business maybe you should properly research facts like that instead of spreading misinformation through your "agree to disagree" idiocy. It's sucks cuz I like this place to peak in like twice a year and see if they have anything new and cool for my dog to try out but instead I'm met with pitbull apologists not once but twice now. Owner needs to do a better job in who they hire. Will be buying stuff when possible online and through other small businesses now instead of this place. read more

Nautical Dog is an excellent pet supply store. They really take the time to do their research on all of their products to ensure the quality is there. They have a wide variety of food, toys, treats, and even breed specific animal collectibles for pet parents. They recently have opened a different section of the store where you can bathe your pets, and also an area where they adopt out cats that needs homes- you can go inside and spend time with them which is super sweet. I brought my miniature poodle in today for a self serve dog wash. All of the employees were friendly and helpful. The washing area was clean and stocked with shampoo / conditioner, after bath spritzer, massage brush, brush, rake comb, apron, blow dryer and amazing microfiber towels. I came in on 2/25 around 5:00 and was immediately greeted which I love. I felt welcomed by everyone. I inform them that I'm a first time dog owner and needed help with the care of my puppy and also asked if I could wash car her. I was informed of all the sales and pricing of the wash. Seeing that I didn't know what I was doing as far as washing my puppy many associates came by to make sure everything was ok during the wash and offered a different tool to comb my baby hair. One lady in particular sorry I didn't get her name (raspy voice) was super nice and answered all of my questions as far as grooming and treats for training. After visiting this location I felt more comfortable taking my puppy home to SC. Great job on hiring these ladies and great business all around. Hopefully I can find a place similar to this. 10/10 would recommend to everyone!!!! read more

Oh my goodness. We just got our first puppy ever, and are visiting Williamsburg. Came here thanks to a dog recommendation website (www.bringfido.com) and wow - this place is beyond "the best place to bring a dog!!" that I've ever seen, in my one week of dog ownership. Oh my goodness, the amount of treats and chew toys and atmosphere and let's face it, the love love love love the staff put on my puppy. Oh - and the visitors too!! I wish we lived here, we would visit weekly, very easily. I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. It would be: 1 star for awesome staff + 1 star for awesome dog treats + 1 star for how much everyone loved my puppy + 1 star for the resident cat + 1 star for oh-my-gosh-they-have-doggy-raincoats + 1 star for doggie cookies + 1 star for how clean they are + 1 star for how smart the employees are + 1 star for how they taught me about raw feeding + 1 star for how they taught me that my veterinarian pet food (for my cats) is not ok. My dogs are now extremely stylish due to the nautical dog! They have matching collars and leashes, not to mention their adorable sweaters and coats for winter! I absolutely love Nautical Dog! Besides the incredible inventory, the staff is amazingly knowledgeable about each and every item. They have helped with my dog's allergies, and I believe, maintaining her great quality of life. Molly does not have the digestive or skin issues that plague some dogs. She has a beautiful coat and clean teeth. I'm not sure what Mason J. experienced. Seems that most folks enjoy the store and the employees. They are always friendly and merchandise high quality. This store exceeded all my expectations of a private pet supply store. They had such a large selection of pet gifts and pet food. Their treat selection really impressed me with how adorable and delicious looking everything was..I almost wanted to buy myself a dog treat cookie to see if it tasted as good as it looked! The girl that was working the store was so nice, helpful, and full of information on all the different foods and treats. That really blew me away to know so much about the "higher quality" foods. I stopped into the store while I was visiting my folks, and I'm glad I did. I had been looking for a new winter coat for my dog and not having much luck. So my wife explained to the owner what we were looking for and she guided us on our options, showing us the differences between each coat and also helped us pick the right size. She was extremely helpful. When we got home to test fit the coat onto our dog, it fit perfectly. I really couldn't be happier with that experience, and I feel great about helping a small business. Love, love, love this place. We live about 4 hours from them and the store owner, Amanda, was extremely helpful with trying to place the order to save us the most money on shipping. Our Border Collie, McKenna, really enjoys her bully sticks and the Roxie & Brownie dog treats that are made in the USA. YAY!! Wouldn't buy anything other than treats from the USA now. We have a special plaque that we found there after the loss of our dog Autumn. "Pets lead us from patience, to love and then to loss, but it's always a Journey worth taking." This last trip a few weeks ago we were able to find McKenna a life jacket and some more treats. She originally didn't think much of the vest until we had her in the boat and then she didn't mind it because she thoroughly enjoys the boat.
