The good: I have gone here for supplies, dog food etc over the years and always to give my 2 small dogs self-baths. Today was horrible when I went to give their baths!!!! There are 3 tubs-2 large( which were being used w very large dogs) & one in the middle for small dogs. I washed my first pup & then the owner in the left began to blow dry her -obviously unbrushed- dog sending white hair EVERYWHERE! All over me, in my mouth, on my dogs, into my tub area and into the air! I just felt at a certain point that she was blowing it at me intentionally because she saw how annoyed I was. When I mentioned it to a manager and I asked him how long she would be because there is a 30 minute limit posted. I had been there for almost for 30 minutes already( set my timer)-she had certainly exceeded her limit! The manager simply said " I don't know" & walked away. I left with my wet dog and did not bathe my second dog. Not sure I will return to this location ever again. Horrible customer service. read more

Pet Supplies Plus opened not too long ago in the space that used to be Marty's Shoes. I never went to Marty's, but I drove by it many times on my way to Westfield. Being a pet owner, I always like to know what my options are when it comes to pet supplies so I decided to drop by this store for a visit. I have to say overall I am very impressed. Pet Supplies Plus strikes me almost like a "Whole Foods for Pets". They don't just carry regular brands like say, 9-Lives or Friskies. Instead, they seem to specialize heavily in more upscale and unusual brands including types of pet food stored in fridges in one aisle and even mice for reptiles! I was impressed by the wide array of brands (some of which I had never heard of) for food, toys and supplies. Like the larger chains, there is a dog washing area towards the back. I also found the staff to be extremely friendly and welcoming to the various dogs I saw in the store (and of course, their owners). The store was also remarkably clean and organized. The shelves were immaculate, showing a certain pride in the store by the staff. I did not buy anything this particular day, but their prices struck me as reasonable. I would definitely go back the next time I need some cat toys or 'nip. I recommend you check this place out if you are a pet owner in the area. read more

The owner is an idiot. He would not honor a manufacturer coupon that came directly ON EACH item when trying to purchase multiple of the same. Because he said he relies on the "computer" (register) to see what it would allow (LOL - apparently it is the brains behind the operation as opposed to himself) when he couldn't get it to accept more than one coupon scan, then he made up a rule on the spot that it didn't allow the processing of more than one coupon per customer per day. Therefore, he chose not to honor the manufacturer's coupon beyond the first and told me I'd have to buy the other two as-is even though the sticker coupons came with them! Furthermore, he refused to transact them separately as all other retailers do in such a situation if there was a system limitation not accommodating the manufacturer's intent of their coupon use. (And yes, I verified this later with the manufacturer!) When I offered to physically exit and re-enter the store to buy the others two separately, he said he would not allow me to buy the same product within the same day. WHAT?! WHO does that?! Then, rudely, he claimed I was trying "to get around the system." ??? ...Like, dude, the coupon literally came stuck ON each item! I'm not trying to get anything over on anyone! SMH! It's so sad the "owner" could not distinguish the coupon's meaning of "one per purchase" application of the coupon and would not let me (despite my then-diplomatic attempt to) help him from his misinterpretation that it meant "one per transaction / per customer / per day." The second coupon didn't work because he scanned only one product, then keyed in the total quantity INSTEAD OF scanning each applicable coupon per purchase/item scan. If you can't work a simple register system, please don't own a store! I'm all about supporting small businesses including franchisees but goodness, I cannot financially back the stubbornly stupid and confused. Update: Directly after this incident at the Garwood franchise within a little over an hour, I purchased the additional (same) items at the neighboring Short Hills Pet Supplies Plus location. WHAT a refreshing experience! :) There weren't ANY issues at all and they possessed common sense while being professional, to boot! And there were no exceptions or special handling that had to be made. After all, it was simply using each coupon that came with the product - just the way the manufacturer intended! LOL. And guess how the cashier processed it? -Yeah! He scanned one item, then the coupon and... just repeated the simple 1 - 2 step! Voilà! Genius! :D read more

The selection of products is excellent and the staff very helpful. I've been buying my dog food and treats here for years. Recently tried a new food that upset my dog's stomach. The owner let me return the product for store credit. While I was making the return, he shared some knowledge about different foods in the store, and which ones he finds best, and less problematic for dogs with sensitive stomachs. He was kind, warm and passionate about his store. I shopped around a bit more and when he rang me out, signed me up for the rewards program. He addressed my by name during the rest of our transaction, thanked me for my business with a handshake and offered to help me to my car with my purchases. I was so thrilled when the old Marty's Shoes turned into a Pet Supplies Plus. But, I had no idea how much I would actually adore this store. The first time I ever went in with my puppy, Charlee, during the store's grand opening, we were greeted so nicely, like we had been coming in forever. I cannot say enough about Barbara. She is one of the most genuine people I have ever met. She does so much for various local rescue groups and is so accommodating. I always look forward to going to Pet Supplies Plus as does Charlee. She gets so excited when we pull into the parking lot. She knows she's going to get an awesome welcome and lots of love from whomever happens to be working that day. I highly recommend checking out this wonderful store. They always have really great sales and treat you like you've been coming there forever. With a self serve dog wash, training classes, pet adoption events, vaccination / micro chip clinics, and basically everything you could ever want for your pets, it's really a no brainer. I see that my review was deleted, so I will continue to post it. I was recently harassed by an employee about putting a mask on my 22-month-old BABY as I was checking out with a bag of dog food (even though I had encountered three other employees during my time in the store who said nothing...because my daughter is clearly under the age of 2). I was in the store for all of 90 seconds and my daughter was buckled into her stroller the entire time. I was following the rules and wearing a mask. The employee refused to back down even after I calmly explained that my daughter was exempt from our governor's mask mandate because she was under the age of 2. I refused to purchase the dog food and immediately left the store and called the owner/manager, who was somewhat apologetic but I guess couldn't care less because my review here has been taken down. I took my money down the street to Petco in Clark and had no issues. There's a difference between following the state-mandated COVID-19 guidelines and having jackass employees on some sort of power trip who harass and belittle customers about masks. It's a nice store and all, but just be prepared that you may be asked to suffocate your infant/toddler in order to buy a bag of dog food. read more

Really enjoyed our time at this location. We usually go to the Berkley Heights branch but thought about giving this new location a try. I have to say I'm extremely happy they opened here in Garwood which is very close to me. The place is extremely clean and the staff are very attentive. we came in for the self serve dog wash for two dogs. Their wash station is really clean and spacious. There are two stations for big dogs and one station for smaller ones. Shampoo/conditioner are provided but we decided to bring our trusted brands. Staff are there to make sure everything is alright and that you have what you need like towels etc. Definitely coming back here again for all our pet needs. read more
