Their customer service is always on point - tonight I was helped by two gentlemen, one who rang me up kept going the extra mile to find the treats I was looking for, offered to throw away my dog's poop bag (I carried it in since it was right before we entered) and was just overall friendly and helpful. It was nice to meet kind humans after being on the road with crazy Friday evening commuters. They also have a great return policy and accept donations of leftover food and treats. I come here for all of our treat needs!

I love the products, the customer service, the staff, the environment. I try to only come here for my kittens needs.

Absolutely the best experience that I have when I shop at this here. The staff is amazing, the best prices, amazing products.

Very time I've been here the customer service is awesome. This place is light years beyond Petco. My cat loved every item that was recommended. She's a picky eater but has enjoyed the food and treats that was recommended!

My dog's life is NOT disposable. This is what happens when corporations care more about making a profit than our pets' lives.

For anyone who takes the time to read this story I urge you to PLEASE never shop at the Albany 'Pet Food Express' location or to do business with 'Pet Food Express' again. Please also remember that they are connected to Amazon as well. I purchased a new dog food brand from this location that is almost exclusively available through 'Pet Food Express' at the recommendation of my veterinarian. The first one and a half weeks of feeding the new food to my dogs went well. However, the new batch of food that I purchased over the weekend at the Albany 'Pet Food Express' location left two of my dogs extremely ill to the point where they had to be rushed to the ER for treatment of symptoms which included bloody diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy, loss of appetite and labored breathing. My older dog currently has a severe case of gastroenteritis and it is unknown whether she will pull through after what the vets claim to be caused from "ingesting a toxin or bacteria" in the new food that was purchased from the Albany 'Pet Food Express.' That said, my review is in no way related to the specific product that I purchased as I have been in direct contact with the manufacturer of this particular food brand who have been very responsive and are working diligently to identity what went awry in their quality control practices leading to the toxic pet food. 'Pet Food Express,' on the other hand, took a very defensive and cavalier attitude regarding my concerns. This morning I called to let the manger of the Albany 'Pet Food Express' know that I had two dogs who required ER care as a direct result of a product that had been purchased at his location as I felt that it was the responsible thing to do so no other dogs would get sick or potentially die from consuming the same product they are selling at this location. At no time did I request a refund for the product that had poisoned my two dogs nor was I looking for any remuneration for the hefty vet bills I had incurred due to the poisonous product that their establishment had sold to me. I was simply informing them that they had sold me a product that had led to two of my dogs ending up in the ER. The manager's response was dismissive, accusatory, and downright defiant as he cut me off and spoke over me in order to tell me in no uncertain terms that there was nothing he would do to prevent selling potentially toxic pet food to unsuspecting pet parents at this location. I am astonished that a business who caters to pets would be so callous to the suffering of pets and be so unconcerned about causing further suffering of even more pets in the future. After speaking with the 'Pet Food Express' customer service department after calling the store just in case the manager at the Albany 'Pet Food Express' was somehow not following company protocol it was made abundantly clear that 'Pet Food Express' as a corporation chooses profits over the health and safety of pets which is completely despicable and immoral. As an aside, if you are still not convinced that 'Pet Food Express' doesn't deserve your business, please consider that their entire business model is based on opening up locations near locally owned and operated "mom and pop" pet supply stores in order to drive them out and take over their clientele. This is indeed the case at the Albany 'Pet Food Express' which they opened no less than three blocks away from a well-established and really wonderful pet supply store that was an asset to the community and would, without a doubt, have pulled any potentially toxic pet food from their shelves immediately without hesitation. My dogs' health is worth more than the loss of some measly profits. I had hoped that this company would just do the right thing and toss out toxic pet food before it could hurt more pets but they unequivocally do not care about you, your pets, or who they harm in the interest of turning a profit. SHAME on 'Pet Food Express.'

Carmina said something like she would use a special shampoo and a lavender spray. I agreed. There was no mention of the $20 up charge for "specialty shampoo"?! ($10 per dog plus a $6 "materials fee" per dog.) It would be nice to give the customer the option to decide if they want to pay more. I have one female and one male. They came out with the same bandana. I was expecting a bow in my girl's hair but this is minor; maybe they ran out or something.. Carmina seems nice and they were ready in two hours as quoted. The price for two dogs to get a bath and blowdry was over $100! I'll go back to doing it myself and just bring them for nail trims and anal gland maintenance.

I just visited this Petco in El Cerrito and it was horrifying. I counted over 20 dead and dying gols fish, betta fish languishing in a tiny cups, and a mouse who is very sick and likely going to die. I asked them if I could please take her to a vet and they refused. Their apathy to her suffering is digusting. Stores like Petco that sell animals for profit do not care about animals. The only good thing about Petco is that they host cat adoptions with local rescue organizations on weekends. But why promote rescue and adoption for some animals, while supporting the cruel breeding and exploitation of other species like rodents, reptiles, fish, and birds?

"Open Paw - Good Habits Are Hard to Break."…read more http://www.openpaw.org/index.html This review is based on attendance at several lectures by Open Paw speakers as well as direct experience with the Open Paw program and the programs founders. (BTW, while I love cats, I own 3 dogs and work with dogs on a daily basis. My bias therefore, leads me to write about dogs.) Open Paw is a multi-faceted approach to making companion pets (more) adoptable, educating pet owners (preferably before an adoption), and keeping pets in the home once they are adopted. When the Open Paw program is employed at the animal shelter level, staff, volunteers and visitors to the shelter are encouraged to feed the dogs part of their daily food ration for displaying appropriate behavior (sitting quietly instead of barking and lunging) at the front of the kennel. The dogs get lots of repetition for this appropriate behavior throughout the day and dogs that are shy or aggressive around people learn that the approach of strangers is a good thing - this is how they get their dinner! Special care is also given in the Open Paw program to teach and maintain housebreaking by ensuring that the shelter dogs get adequate time out of the kennel - housebroken dogs shouldn't be forced to soil their kennel. (In most shelter situations, the mental and physical health of the dogs is constantly deteriorating. Constant barking, lack of physical exercise and mental stimulation as well as inadequate levels of staff and volunteers to get the dogs out frequently enough - these are the ingredients for doggie stress and deterioration found in most shelters.) In and out of the shelters, Open Paw strives to educate prospective pet owners BEFORE they adopt. Far too many dogs are returned to shelters because the new owners don't have realistic expectations of their new companion and they don't know how to resolve insanely simple problems. Post-adoption, Open Paw continues its efforts to educate pet owners and handlers with the goal of keeping the new pet in the home for a lifetime. In addition to a vast amount of resources available on the website, Open Paw also offers - for free - a electronic (pdf) file of "Before You Get Your Puppy", by Dr. Ian Dunbar. (Dunbar - a very well known and respected veterinarian, animal behaviorist, dog trainer, and writer - revolutionized the dog training world when he opened "Sirius Puppy Training". He is also the founder of Open Paw.) The Open Paw program and what it strives for is nothing short of brilliant. The priceless information is appropriate for anyone who might come into contact with domesticated animals. Pet lovers, owners, the general public as well as people that don't like pets - all would benefit from OU (Open Paw University). Check it out, get educated & gain some knowledge about our fuzzy friends! This is pure win-win-win!

I'm pretty sure they're friends, so I was hesitant to leave a review. I told him that I just needed the basics. Sanitation cut, glands, and nails. I dropped my dog off at 10. I called at 2 and he wasn't ready. I don't know how you need 4 hours when I made an appointment, but whatever. I finally got to pick him up around 3. Was charged almost $100 and was griped out by the guy saying that next time he had to "do all that" it would be $120. All that? He did way more than I asked. I am actually find with that. Hair grows out. I'm not okay with the nicks and razor burn. He's been licking and chewing himself for 4 days. He never used to do that. He keeps licking his anus, which worries me about how gentle they weren't with expressing him. The cut itself is super choppy looking. Like he has short spots and long spots right next to each other. But even if he looked perfect, I'd be upset by the razor burn and the little nicks. I wish I had listened to myself. I really didn't want to leave him there. My brain kept screaming for me to leave. I should have listened. Now I had to spend another $40 on hot spot sprays and skin soothing lotion.
