After the Mission Bay branch sadly closed, I now make the morning trek to bring my 80-lb Siberian Husky to this location. They do an amazing job with washing, conditioning, and deshedding. He always smells great for a couple of weeks--even with all the mud rolling he loves to do. Most importantly, the groomers take such a gentle approach. My dog was unfortunately traumatized by two other groomers in SF, but he's never had any anxiety coming here for a bath. That says a lot. I'd like to thank the team for their great service. While it's not the cheapest option, they provide excellent value and flexibility for the price. read more

I found out an this store through K-9 Grillz. My dog has his teeth cleaned here. They do not use anesthesia. $250-275. It's well worth it. You have to schedule an appointment through K-9 Grillz. First time here, I was not familiar with many brands so I only paid for the cleaning. I encourage pet owners to try "mind body and bowl" products. K-9 Naturals has been my go to topper. There's plenty sales online also, which the store honors. Next cleaning will be in March. I have had positive experiences with their products. Prices are great. Seems like the quality is better than some competitors. The dental cleanings have been helpful. It's hard brushing my dogs teeth. He eats more fish and zero junk food. My dog had his teeth cleaned by K9 Grillz in Berkeley. Usually my dog is nervous when seeing a vet. My dog began peeing as I handed him to K9 Grillz. I would recommend pet owners attempting to use their service. Dental health is critical. They examine your dog well and perform a physical. If your dog is not complying, they will not force the service. It's worth the exam at least and opinion by a dentist who is not affiliated with a Vet. I will continue booking appointments. The price is reasonable. Anesthesia is dangerous. For your pets sake, it's worth a try. I bought Open Farm Dehydrated Cod Skins. Tough to find elsewhere. We have been using what is now called Healthy Spot in North Berkeley California for years, and the staff has always been very helpful and they carry the best products, including frozen Primal nuggets which are not freezer burned as they are in many other local pet stores. Recently we went for our supply of Primal and to ask advice about our new Boston Terrier's harness, collar, and car restraint. Diane is amazing with expert advice beyond just sales. She knew dogs and she advised us in great detail. She spent time with detailed advice, and knowledge of her products and alternatives. We were amazed at her expertise. Came in to purchase some food for my dog and the person at the register looked up, made eye contact and then went back to what they were doing without an acknowledgment or greeting. After not finding what I needed, I went up to ask a question - the shopkeeper began to say something (potentially - "what can I help you with", however eye world will never know...) when a gentleman walked in and they turned and instead asked him what he was looking for or needed. TF?! The gentleman then said to me "Hey I think you're asking for help??" and motioned towards me - meanwhile the shopkeep still made no move to help, but rather just stood there in the middle of us until I said "I need help looking for something". In the end they didn't have what I needed and no alternatives were suggested - I left and thanked the gentleman for seeing and acknowledging me. My family and I only come to this place when it comes to our animals. Heidi (the owner) is so knowledgeable that she knows what the right product is if our dogs have an issue. She also recommends great treats when it comes to one of our dogs who is a very picky eater. I would highly recommend coming here if you want someone who knows the items that they are selling and what is best for your animal. Other than our vet, I truly trust Heidi with anything. Lastly, everyone that works there is welcoming and are always there if you need help. Even if you show up the first time they will come up to you and ask if you need any assistance. Holistic Hound, now renamed Healthy Spot, is the best place to go for your dog and cat supplies. We have an older cat Seuss who is a very fussy eater and turns her nose up often when presented most foods. We asked the man behind the counter, who has always been super friendly, what to do, and he suggested his cat's favorite food (which our cat loved), and another trick we would never have thought of: sprinkling grated duck liver on her food (go to the store to get instructions for this). Works like magic! She's eating food she wouldn't touch before. They also gave us great flea advice and we've stopped her medications and are using products they have recommended. Really awesome store. The staff here are SOOOOO helpful and knowledgeable! They've always been so kind, considerate and thoughtful to me, which makes a world of difference when you can't decide what food to get for your beloved animal friend. One of their staff members recommended feeding raw chicken necks or guinea fowl necks to my cat (under supervision, of course) to help clean his teeth. And it has tremendously helped to clean his teeth! So much so that as a 10 yr old, the vet has never said he needed his teeth cleaned. They have a return policy on raw food so that if your pet does not like it, you can return it. Amazing! They also have a discount point system based upon how much you spend, so you get $5 or $10 off here or there, which is lovely. I few years ago I purchased CBD oil from the previous location (Holistic Hound) and they helped me out with getting the right dosage from my dog that was experiencing anxiety. She was 17lbs. She passed away. The dog I have now is 5lbs. When I asked about purchasing this for a dog that has issues with separation anxiety, I was told to purchase a bottle of 100 mg (I asked for CBD). When I received it, the bottle states that's it's for0.25 ml for up to 8 pounds. I was very clear about the weight of my dog. The level of expertise when it comes to dispensing this kind of "medication" for lack of a better word is horrible. I will not give my 5lb dog more medication that needs to be given. I may be giving her way too much medication based on their recommendation. I'm really frustrated as the bottles are given with "droppers". So it this should be dispensed based on drops when it comes to less then 8lbs. If you have a dog that is less than 8lbs, don't use this company. read more

A super neat store! I just got my first dog about two weeks ago (a miniature Australian Shepherd) and was dreading having to travel far to go to a Petsmart for blah products. Then I turned to my handy-dandy yelp and found this place! Super conveniently located, friendly employees, and a fantastic selection of products. They have beautiful collars and leashes (some a bit out of my price range but wow, they're gorgeous), vast selection of raw food items, GOOD healthy treats (bully sticks, Himalayan cheese, etc.), and so many unique toys. I love the doggy shampoo I bought from here and it makes bath time very enjoyable. My dog also loves the CBD dog treats. They have a great calming effect. Holistic Hound may come across that way in passing, when you consider the location in a wealthy part of Berkeley but it really is nothing like that. It is an exceptional place. Those other stores actually just make me appreciate Holistic Hound even more. I trust the quality of all the foods, toys, and remedies I buy there and find their products very tasteful/useful. The staff genuinely care for animals and are equally welcoming to me and my dog every time we come by. It is very clean and well organized in the store. My dog also had a very effective, non-anesthesia teeth cleaning there which was great. I also appreciate that they put up pictures of pets for adoption in their window. We are FLOORED by how well this oil is working on our arthritic dog!! She is a 10yr old Rottweiler-Shepard mix who had a high jump injury in her elbows at 6mos and who's elbows have progressively lost cartilage ever-since. She has less than 20% in each joint. She's been on Meta-Cam, Rimadyl and MSM etc as well as oyster shells (which were quite helpful) and every other product under the sun. But nothing listed above really worked as effectively as this CBD has. We noticed a difference after 1 dose! (She's 65lbs and I give her 1 dropper a day.) she can now run on the beach or down a hill and not limp for hours after. And she asks for longer walks. It's seriously unbelievable. read more

My little furry kiddos are the loves of my life even though sometimes they can be little devils. One thing we have been working on is the excessive barking when cars pass by the front of our house or neighbors opening doors and garages. We tried some CBD oil from here at first but our dogs couldn't tolerate it and had diarrhea each time we attempted. It is most likely the carrier oil that is too much for their tummies. We decided to try the CBD treats and while we aren't sure we see a huge difference, they do seem to bark less and for a shorter time when they have these treats. They also love the treats and we are happy to have a place in the East Bay that carries these products as well as nice staff to answer any questions. We don't live nearby but have stopped by twice to get treats for the kiddos. They have other treats/toys and fun things for your dogs so it's a fun store to check out. I like this store. It's nestled in this little shopping nook. From Vine St. you head up the stairs and follow the path way to this charming store. Inside is all the pleasures of keeping your hound fed and cute. The staff treated my dog to a little treat and offered help during my visit as I was looking for a new collar. Compared to some other stores I've been too, while they had a nice selection, they didn't have the stuff I was hoping to find. But, the staff was kind enough to offer to order whatever I might be looking for and at the mention that I'm in the market for a "dog tote" that I can put my pooch in while I shop, the manager offered to add that to her list of things the store should carry.
