She has been kept in a cage all day and now they report to me that she is cery nervous. I insisted she be finished immediately and they gave me a 40 mins. range. Unfortunately, I noticed that my dog was getting flee from this place! Also, everytime I took him home, I noticed some places in his body was not groom correctly! In addition to all these, once they charged me 15 dollars extra just to have flee treatment which later on I found out that they just used a flee shampoo which did not help at all! I have been taking my pup to here for almost two years. Not gonna lie, it's always been hit and miss. There were a few times I thought about finding another groomer (especially after hearing other's experiences) but I didn't want to have my dog go through more anxiety, than what she would already experience, by taking her to a new groomer. But, this was the last straw. I was so hopeful this time around because the last time I took her she came out so adorable. When I took her in this time, a groomer asked me if I wanted the same as last time, and I said yes. Just a trim, brush out, and the usual nails, etc. Mayté recently had to undergo surgery for a foxtail that was stuck in her paw, so she had done a lot of licking on one leg/paw, which made her fur really matted on that leg. So, when CoCo had called to tell me that the matting on her leg was too close to the skin, and they needed to shave down, I agreed, but was very specific that I wanted to keep her body long, with just a trim. She reiterated what I had instructed and that was that. They call me a couple hours later that she was finished, so I go and pick her up. Total was $85 and I gave an 18% gratuity. When they brought her out, after I was done paying, I was so shocked! There were more customers in the waiting room, and I'm not the type of person to make a scene, and I'm not usually one to complain. I took her out and thought to myself, maybe it isn't too bad, but as soon as I got into the car and examined her further, I was like WTF?!?! As soon as I got home I texted them and about 20 mins later they called me. I told them all the things that were wrong and the lady on the phone told me to bring her back so they could "blend." I explained that any time my dog goes to the groomer or vet, she is super anxious and it takes her a couple of hours to settle down and that I was not going to do that to her again. So, she apologized and then asked if there was anything they could do for me, instead of offering me a refund flat out. Even if I should have asked for one, I didn't ask for a refund because they did the job, just so very terribly. My response was, "well no, I'm just not going to be taking her back..." again she apologized. I had heard things from some friends that their customer service wasn't great, they were over priced, and that they had had some not so great experiences (all after I had already been taking her for a few months). This is my first dog that I've ever had to take to a groomer, all my other pups have been short-haired dogs. Well, I should have listened and found another place to take her. I won't be going back. The lack of consistency and the lack of care that went into grooming Mayte is so sad to me. Putting trust in people to take care of my fur baby is difficult enough. read more

I was unable to assess the quality of their work, as they arbitrarily decided that my my very well-behaved dog, being over the age of ten, was not welcome at their establishment. It was explained to me that "owners of older dogs do not always tell the truth about any health problems their dogs have." So I was categorically dismissed as a potential customer because some other people with older dogs did not tell the truth. I've brought my two dogs here a couple times since they are close to where I live and after the last experience, I am unfortunately going to be bringing my dogs somewhere else. While they make my dogs look terrific, what I dislike about this place was the fact they took so long. My last appointment, I brought my dogs in early right when they opened (around 8am). I felt like my dogs were the last dogs to leave. I did not get the call that my dogs were done until about 4pm. Can someone explain to me how my dogs were in there for 7-8 hours and not be done? I also have to mention that one of my dogs acted very strange the next couple days after his appointment at the groomers. Before I brought him in he was so happy and lively. When I picked him up and for the next day and a half, he was not himself. He was yelping and seemed very down. It got me worried that I had to text one of my friends who works at a vet, "should i be bringing him down? he's not himself". Both my dogs have gone to the groomers multiple times and neither one of them have EVER acted like this before. Because of the time it takes to get my dogs back from this groomer and the fact my dog felt traumatized, I will not be bringing my dog back to this place. Update: I received a call/voicemail from tails a Go-Go saying they saw my "review" and explained to me that they told me upfront if I was okay if my dogs could stay longer due to covid-19. I was never asked by anyone if my dogs could stay longer and whether I was okay with it. Clearly by them leaving me a voicemail and stating my dogs names, shows I am in their system and have reviewed the correct groomer. read more

This review is solely based on the quick response I received. After leaving a VM, Coco called me back within a few hours. I called back again when they were open hoping to make an appointment. Jasmine informed me that they do not accept dogs who are over 50 lbs. I regularly have to pick up my big wimpy baby when he's tired, to put him in my car (and he's HEAVY) so I completely understand that it must be unsafe to require employees to do that heavy lifting. My cat had a minor sanitary emergency (bathroom issues led to clumpy dirty fur that I was unable to clean and was getting worse), and it was almost impossible to find a place, whether vet or groomer, that could help with it on short notice. Then I called Tails A Go-Go! They were available 2 hours from the time I called. I showed up a bit early, they took her and immediately performed a sanitary trim that took all of five minutes. The best groomer in the East Bay, hands down. They take such good care of my elderly 16-year-old Bichion Frise pup, who is honestly not the easiest dog to groom in his old age. He has issues with people touching his paws, his back legs give out quickly and had some tender but benign tumors on his shoulder. All the groomers are so gentle and patient with him. He always comes out so happy and beautiful when I pick him up. Be mindful that since the pandemic started, you should allocate a couple of hours for the groomers to have enough time to take care of your pet and follow safety protocols. I don't live close to Albany anymore but will be taking him here as long as I can. Thanks Tails-a-Go-Go for two years of excellent service. read more

I take my dogs there for nail trims and they are always able to accommodate me on the same day I call. The ladies are very nice and seem to really like dogs. One of my dogs is a cry baby and you would think he was being murdered, but two of the ladies were able to cut his nails. the other dog is easy so no issues. The price is fair and they are fast. This one star is for Alex's friendly attitude and her cute dog. I'm sad to say that we will not return to Tails A Go-Go. I was utterly shocked and disappointed after seeing my fluffy bichon, Gingy's final haircut. I fully acknowledge when we were doing the first walk through that she has patches of matted fur and was okay with the groomer keeping her hair short. I was under the impression that the groomer will be able to at least keep her body's fur longer, since it was not matted, and keep her hair as long as possible on her legs. However, the total time (a little over an hour) Gingy was at Tails A Go Go, led me to believe that the groomer did not do her due diligence, and cut corners on Gingy's haircut. Instead of thoroughly brushing her and de-matting her, as any groomers would, the groomer opted out for the easy route and shaved her completely. This is just lazy and this shaved haircut is absolutely unacceptable! It takes at least an hour just to wash her fur, so this made me believe that the groomer was quick on the razor, and did not care about a thing I said. She just kept mentioning "Teddy Haircut". Well my dog is not a teddy, but did you have to make her into a rat dog?! After mentioning that she gets incredibly embarrassed the last time she has shaved 6 years ago, I'm sad to say that no one acknowledged the fact that this affects my little girl deeply. She's now completely embarrassed on our walk and tries to run back to the house as soon as she's done. It's sad because I really wanted to like this place, especially Alex was so friendly. However, I think folks with two-layer coats dogs need not bother. I saw another dog getting shaved when I picked Gingy up. You can make your own judgment from my experience. read more

I didn't see any of the 3 groomers working next to each other talking to the dogs or connecting with them at all. This is a sign that they are probably underpaid and overworked. They seemed sad and not interested in getting to know the dog at all. My groomer seemed kind enough but looked tired and spent like the others. The grooming is done super fast and seemed like they were all getting super short shavings.. all boiler plate. The dogs were shaking like a leaf and it would have helped if they would talk to the dog and look at them in the eyes on occasion and be soothing. I won't return... I think it's a hard job and the owner should allow more time for the groomers. What's interesting is that they also do not ask for any paperwork before you bring them in. Super convenient for most dog owners, but risky in the case the dogs are not vaccinated for contagions. read more

I took my cat there for the grooming and haircut. I found both of her claws has blood on when picking her up. The lady told me the cat was struggling during the bath so she hurt herself by holding onto something. She also told me it happened a lot. At the beginning I thought it might be just a small scratch so I didn't pay much attention on it. I checked her nails as soon as I went back home. It looked terrible. One nail from one claw split in to couple pieces but still hanging there, and the other nail from the other claw broke into pieces and even has one piece missing. It looked like two small holes with blood. I can't imagine how the cat felt but my heart broke at the moment. I hope they could be more gentle and patient when giving bath to pets. They must grab her so hard so even the nails were gone. I bathed her many times by myself and never hurt her once. The stuff there are pretty friendly and the price is reasonable. The haircut is alright, but I don't think I will go there again. read more

The grooming resulted in over $500 in vet fees. I returned to this business after a few years because it is close and others had recommended it. I thought things might have changed in those years but this experience was the worst yet. After the grooming appointment, my usually happy dog was cowering under furniture and shaking. I brought her into the vet where they found areas where she had been shaved and nicked to the point of bleeding. Only one anal gland had been expressed and was showing signs of infection. I'd stopped going to Tails a Gogo because they'd nicked her teats. When I've brought up concerns in the past, they were defensive. There won't be a next time. read more

Lawd. We have been going here almost 4 years now. FOUR YEARS. We've now been here twice since Alex's departure. The woman at the front desk is not very friendly at all, on the phone or in person. I'm not even sure she likes dogs, watched as she dragged them to the back. My dogs used to happily enter the facility as we arrived, now they shake. We used to live in El Cerrito so it made sense, since then we have moved and continue to take them there because we loved Alex and Coco. I'm not sure who groomed them this time, but they now both have severe razor burn on their butts, that I'm applying Neosporin to. Never in four years have we had this issue. Think it's time we start looking elsewhere I'm super disappointed and sad because we had to move vets this year too. Lame. So glad we found Tails A Go-Go. The groomers here are very friendly and caring. Both ladies have tremendous artistic grooming talent. We have been here twice already and both times have been great experience. My poodle is very comfortable with Erica. She is gentle and skillful. The first time she gave her a poodle puppy trim and today she gave her a modified continental groom which is what you see on dog shows except slightly different in length for easier maintenance. Grooming is a form of art and poodle continental is no easy task but she definitely nailed it. If you are wondering about price, for this particular haircut it is time consuming with lots of scissoring so it is not cheap. Unless you groom your dogs you'd understand grooming takes time and patience. It is a form of art. If you want a nice haircut on your dog with great care Tails A Go Go is a place to go to.
