Our American Bully Tiny posing with her friend Froi.
Surindha T.

We have been taking our two bully breed dogs to Froi for their pedicures every couple of weeks for several years. Froi is the kindest person. He always makes the dogs feel happy and at ease. He cuts their nails quickly, efficiently and painlessly. They do squirm sometimes, but he is always gentle and calm and loving. We are so glad to have him close by. Our dogs know when it's pedi time and they get super excited, tails all wagging when we set off to see Froi. What more could you ask for. They love him

After!

I have been going to Froy for 10 years, starting when he was in Sausalito. Today was our new puppy's first cut and I am just wow'd. He always does an amazing job but this pup was particularly challenging. Froy, you continue to amaze me and I happily drive from Marin to see you! I refer all my friends to him. He's the grooming whisperer! Here is the before and after

If I could give this establishment zero stars I would. I took my goldendoodle there today after someone recommended him. When I arrived, I said, I want my Doodle done medium and I was told because she had some knots on legs, he would shave those but I said not to shave her body. Well I went to pick her up and he acted nervous and said he had to shave her all over. I was shocked when I saw her. Not only was she shaved all over but her cut was sloppy and uneven. He shaved areas way too close to her skin. She was very stressed and just wanted to leave. I asked him about several spots that were definitely uneven and I wanted him to fix these areas, but he kept talking over me and then left the room abruptly. I'm posting photos so you can see for yourself and make an informed decision if this is where you want to support this establishment. Furthermore, he has no love of animals and is obvious how he grabbed my dog when she acted fearful when we first entered. It's normal for most dogs to feel stressed when coming to a new place and you would assume the owner would take some time to calm the dog down. I should have left right then! I will inform all my doodle friends to avoid this place. I don't mind spending $175 to get my dog groomed, but this is unacceptable and very unprofessional!

Before shot of a cute, raggedy Bernedoodle

Mr. John's is one of the few places that will even accept large dogs (over 50 lbs) so we're lucky they're great! The owner is so nice, greeting us upon arrival. Scheduling has been easy with a quick phone call- we can typically get in for an appointment within a couple days. Steet parking out front has always been available. And the shop smells and seems clean from the lobby. We've brought our 18 month old, 80 lb Bernedoodle here about 4 times, starting with his first puppy cut at 6 months old. Each time, he ends up needing a shorter cut than I'd prefer but when the dood's got some sneaky matting, I'm glad they aren't willing to torture him for my own vanity. The big guy doesn't seem super nervous when we arrive so that's a good sign. Only downside is that he's usually there all day, and not ready at the predicted time which can throw off my schedule. Plus I feel bad having my dog there so long. Luckily he looks cute and silly with his new cut and feels good afterward. Post-cut, he's sometimes itchy or irritated in delicate spots but he's never had any cuts injuries so I feel comfortable that the groomers are taking care of him.

He does it again! Best grooming job ever! Thank you so much!

There seems to be a new owner--Debbie, the previous owner, has retired, the person who answered the phone told me. Has anyone had experience with the new owner?

Froy used to be a partner at another grooming place in Marin. I've been a loyal Froy client for 3 years and I am now driving my dogs to Oakland once a month. He is gentle and loves what he does. My Bella gets carsick and the new medicine my vet gave… Read more

Heather gave me really good instructions and commentary on how to prepare Curry for a grooming appointment so that she wouldn't be nervous or in pain and was super accommodating and patient with her. This is a positive review for Heather.  She was very knowledgeable and helpful. She also showed…read moregood character. I had reached out to Heather seeking advice on how to help a stray cat "Miss Kitty".  Miss Kitty comes around 2x a day for food in my backyard. She is a very pretty kitty with medium length black hair who seems to have some matting issues. Miss Kitty is very skittish but I have been slowly building trust with her these past few weeks. So can now pet her. Given she has been outdoors she is not used to being brushed and gets scared when she sees it. I contacted Heather seeking advice for how to best help the cat with her coat. Heather very generously spent 30+ mins talking with me.  We covered all sorts of topics. Including ways to desensitize the cat to brushing, which sort of brush/comb to use, and how to make sure it's also paired with a positive reward (like a treat). HEather also explained that I should first get her used to me brushing/combing her where there are no tangles, just so that cat can get used to the experience. Then as I build comfort with cat, gradually work my way over to the tangles to gently work on them.   She also gave her take suggesting that maybe this was winter undercoat growing out with some tangles. Versus extreme matting that was pulling the skin and causing pain to the cat. Which was a huge relief in itself! We also spoke about the pros/cons of shaving her. She explained it would definitely give her a fresh start for the coat. However, Heather voiced that if it was done now (April) she worried the cat would get cold outside.  So suggested if it was done, either to wait until warmer months or until the cat maybe was more socialized and willing to live indoors afterwards. We also spoke about if eventually the cat was shaved that would also be a good time to bathe her, which type of soap to use, etc. We also spoke about if I did ever get her socialized to that point, how we could make any future appt less stressful for the cat. During the conversation Heather also spoke with me about not rushing things, given strays have a lot of trust issues. So Heather understood how fragile the budding bond is with this cat. (She mentioned her mother in law did feral cat rescue, so was familiar with how to work with these types of cats who generally are not used to human interactions.) If Heather was as different type of person and greedy - she would have just wanted me to bring the cat in for an appt immediately or tried to sell me a bunch of products.  But she really seemed to care about the cat's well being which I really appreciated.  There was zero attempt to sell me on anything which these days is very rare. Heather also declined my offer to pay her for the phone consultation, saying she was happy just to help. Again very rare! If you want someone who is a knowledgeable and experienced groomer, genuinely cares about the animal's well being, and is a wonderful human being to boot - you will be in good hands with Heather.

We've recently moved to this area, and all our previous grooming experiences elsewhere have been positive. I had provided Taj with clear instructions for my dog's grooming: poodle paws, teddy-bear face, and a summer cut for his body. However, my dog came back with visible razor burns, uneven patches of fur, and nails that weren't trimmed. I was also in absolute disbelief that his face was completely shaved, contrary to our discussion. Along with the traumatic experience for our dog, Taj's interaction with my husband was less than professional. Instead of acknowledging the mistakes, Taj was defensive and lacked courtesy. Given our experience, I am genuinely surprised by the high reviews Taj has received.
