We came to try this restaurant after seeing a review from Phoenix New Times magazine. At the visitor gate, we told the gentleman we were going to the restaurant and he said "great" and let us through. We parked and walked in with our child, where the hostess greeted us. While standing at the hostess stand, we noticed the lobster tail advertised and commented that it sounded perfect and something we would definitely order. The hostess then asked for our name and where we lived, and informed us we could not dine there because we were not members or residents. If this is a members-only restaurant, that should be clearly communicated upfront - before guests are allowed through the gate and into the restaurant. We might have considered membership, but after this experience, we definitely will not. read more

Went here with my husband for dinner and sadly, it was a letdown. We waited almost 45 minutes for our food, and when it finally came, it was just okay -- nothing special at all. What really rubbed us the wrong way was the 20% service charge that was automatically added to our bill. It was just the two of us, and the bill even said that the charge wasn't a tip or gratuity. Seriously? They did offer us a free dessert because of the long wait, which was a nice gesture, but it didn't make up for the slow service and average food. We won't be going back. read more

I live in the Anthem Country Club so I eat here often. In 11 years I can honestly say I've only had one meal that did not impress me.

We live in the area and I wanted to try the club restaurant. We had heard mixed reviews and wanted to see for ourselves. The service was good, the food was ok/good (not great) and the atmosphere seemed a bit like a slightly higher end retirement community room. I was disappointed at the feel as the menu would seem to call for white tablecloths and some better looking seats. That would dress it up. I had the Bass or Cod (cannot recall as it was not all that memorable). It actually looked great and the presentation was nicely done, but the flavor was more on the bland side. My wife got the stuffed chicken which was stuffed with a sausage mix. She liked it although I did not get a taste so it is hard to tell. I had an old fashioned which was good and came in what seemed like a better than average portion. We also had a bottle of Cabernet. Overall, we likely won't go back despite it being so close and with menu items that are in the the higher end in town but if it is not made exceptionally well and with an atmosphere that doesn't match the menu, why go? For my money, even with escalating gas prices, I will just take the trek into Scottsdale. read more

I was excited to take my wife and her parents here for seafood night. $62 a plate and the Seafood was poorly prepared and bland. The worst part to come was when the bill arrived. There was a $42 service charge. Not an included gratuity. On a very poor $250 dinner, I ended up paying $99 for service fee and gratuity. About 45% of total bill. I would not recommend eating here. This restaurant is in a private club and you cannot gain access unless you are a member or the guest of a member. This should really be stated on the Yelp listing. Update: I received two nasty messages from Turner C., who I would guess is the owner, manager, or otherwise connected to this place. The first said "Your reviews suck. Not a single helpful." The second said "It's your fault you didn't know it was a private club. Everyone else does that lives anywhere near here. It's not their fault that you have no brain in your head. That's why it's called a country club, genius." If this is the type of person who owns the place, I wouldn't WANT to be a member. I suggested to him that, if he doesn't want non-members to complain about it on Yelp, he should either state on the listing that it's a private club, or don't have a Yelp listing. Kudos to the new management team (Steve, McKenzie, and chef) and both the former wonderful service team like Miss Esperanza and new members like Jalen. Finally, it seems, Anthem Country Club members and Club Corp guest have both a great upscale dining facility with great service PLUS an excellent menu with well prepared and presented top quality food. This past weekend we were thankfully surprised to fully enjoy an all around great dining experience here, our first in 14 years of residence! The house wine is excellent as was the Barbecue Shrimp appetizer, main course House Filet and Grouper! Deserts of chocolate and carrot cake made for a perfect meal. Some how, some way, this place disappoints because they promote themselves as a restaurant but in fact they are a private club. Non members are turned away. I found this out after driving for 30 miles to have lunch there and refused service. Before I went there I reviewed their website wondering if non members were welcome similar to other golf courses I have visited. We lived in the Anthem Country Club for nearly ten years and came here for a few special occasions. The views from the window overlooking the golf course were breathtaking. The food has been a hit or miss here. The service is pretty good and its a kid friendly atmosphere. They offer Pasta Night, Taco Night and provide a brunch for Easter and special dinners for Thanksgiving and Christmas. This restaurant use to be open to the public but now it's strictly for members of the club. There is an adjoining bar that has happy hour. Dress here is casual to formal depending on what your celebrating and what night of the week you come. Menu offers pastas, steaks, seafood, chicken nuggets for kids and a great wine menu. Since this is Anthem and upscale dining is limited, this is a great option if you're in the club. read more

We've lived here for 1.5 years and continue to enjoy the high quality and consistency of the food served at both Persimmon and Ironwood at every meal! But something is changing and not for the good...Over the past 6-8 mos we've seen a drastic change in the number of excellent servers managed by Maggie. It appears that about 90% of those servers have since left; leaving just a few like Ramon, James and Efren. 5 STARS FOR SERVICE: KUDOS to our "server friends" as we continue to appreciate and admire their professionalism, attentiveness and tenacity to ensure everyone is promptly served, treated with respect and feels special as they call us/them by name. 3 STARS FOR THE NEW MGMT: But we can't help but see our "server friends" and ourselves be impacted every now and again by extreme delays from the kitchen and/or missing items from the menu delivered by flustered servers trying to cover up some issues behind the curtain. We can only hope that whatever is happening with new management that it gets resolved soon!!! We need both of these restaurants to continue their awesome reputation and be able to maintain the high quality of the few excellent servers that remain. It was our first time to Persimmon Bar and Grille, we were invited as guests and were pleasantly surprised. The steak was seasoned and cooked to perfection. The hummus plate came beautifully prepared with crudités. My daughter ordered nachos which I was a little disappointed that she ordered. Once they arrived I was pleasantly surprised. They were beautifully plated for nachos and some of the best I have had. I'm not someone to order nachos, and I would not only recommend but order them myself. They do a really beautiful job at taking simple food and making them something special. Service was good too. read more

The Anthem Country club does a spectacular job taking care of it's grounds and the service in the Persimmon bar & grille has always been 1st class in our experience. We moved from Anthem to Desert Mountain and we missed Anthem so much, we've moved back. Anyone who says service is bad here must have come on a really off day as that is not the norm. Getting Better! When we first visited this country club restaurant for Sunday breakfast last year, it was awful. However, the management has listened. When we arrived, we were greeted by a smiling host who asked if we wished to be seated in the dining room or bar area. I love choices. The water glasses were filled immediatly and he asked what we would like to drink. Our nice waiter, Ethan, was equally prompt to take our breakfast order. Hubby ordered an omelet and it was large with hash browns and toast for $8.95. The quality of the ingredients were good and it was well cooked. They should have different jelly offerings than orange marmalade or grape. One berry should always be offered. I ordered eggs benedict and the eggs were perfectly cooked as ordered and the other ingredients were good quality. The potatoes have really improved!!! $12.95 is a little spendy. Our recommendation is to ask the waiter to leave the metal pot of coffee as they do not refill the cups often enough for breakfast time and this is more convenient. Also, since the walk to the kitchen is fairly long, it would be a good idea to bring out tabasco, ketchup and any other items before breakfast is served. My potatoes got cold before the ketchup arrived. Yes, my review is picky but when you are charged a mandatory 20% tip, you have no problem with it if the service is excellent. This restaurant is getting better and we look forward to coming more often. read more

Just tried Sunday breakfast and cannot say enough bad things about the whole experience. First of all there were only 5 tables with patrons when we arrived, but it took almost an hour to get a breakfast that was cold upon arrival. The table next to us was there before us but did not get any food until several later arrivals were served. They complained and still had food that arrived wrong and cold. This place was just remodeled but even the views could not entice us to ever try this place again. read more

I dined here for the first time yesterday evening as a guest to a member there. 2 of us ordered the Seafood Pescatore and the Mussels were spoiled. Very Gross smell and didn't realize it until after i ate one. We sent both plates back. The server seems to have issues with the bottle of Shirah wine we selected. The cork fell apart on her and she had to retrieve a second bottle. Same thing happened and she disappeared for a few minutes to return with an open bottle. One of us has a bit or cork floating in the wine. Overall ambiance was non- existent as it was so loud one couldn't hear another at the table speaking. Service was lackluster. Even after sending the food back and choosing another entree, had to get up and find someone to give me a fork. Glad I don't belong to this club............. read more
