Brought our new baby here for the first time. I was a bit anxious as there were plenty of dogs there on a Saturday late afternoon. All owners were vigilant of their dogs. Mine had a great time just roaming and smelling his new friends' butts (That's a fist pump in doggie language). This place continues to be as beautiful as always. Plenty of bags and water stations around the park. The landscape is well kept. We will be back! Hope to see you there !

This dog park has an interesting history associated with it. There is a historical sign in the park explaining about the Perrine Land Grant. Dr. Henry Perrine, a noted horticulturist was given a land grant in 1838 to introduce new tropical plants and seeds into the area. Dr. Perrine introduced the key lime to the United States giving us our state dessert, key lime pie. At the time he applied for the grant the Second Seminole War was taking place. While waiting to see if his grant was approved Dr. Perrine took his family to Indian Key which he considered safer. On August 7, 1840 Dr. Perrine's home was attacked. He was able to get his family to safety before being killed in the house. After his death his son and business partner attempted to claim the grant but homesteaders had moved onto the land. The railroad backed the Perrine family and after a court battle 2,000 acres were awarded to the homesteaders, 10,000 acres to the Perrine family, and 5,000 acres each to two railroad companies. The Perrine family petitioned to have part of their land transferred to Biscayne Bay and the rest became the community of Perrine As the railroad construction began a camp sprang up forming the community of Perrine. The whites lived on the east side of the tracks and the blacks on the west side. Perrine became an incorporated city in 1948. After a black mayor was elected in 1949 the all white city council dissolved the city. The dog park that sits here now is 3 acres of beautiful landscaped park for dogs to roam and play with their owners There is no fee to use it. The park has been recently upgraded to include a gazebo, dog water fountains, and benches. The best feature of the park is a lake with a fountain where dogs can swim. There is also a paved walkway and agility equipment. I was there on more of a history tour but when I saw how nice the park was it made me wish I had brought my dogs.

After living on and off in this area for couple years, I just recently discovered this dog park while browsing for a place on Maps and Yelp. I could not believe this dog park existed! And it was walking distance for me. Today my friend and I finally took his dog, Spanky, to the dog park. We ended up going the long way to the entrance on SW 160th St close to the day care or kindergarten. Later on we discovered there was another entrance that's on US1. There's a little parking area designated for dog owners, which is convenient for drivers. Doggy bags, benches, and water fountains are provided. Owners must clean after the doggies. Each water fountain station has low, medium, and normal height faucets, which is really convenient. Dogs can swim in the water but at their own risks. There are turtles, fishes, tadpoles in the pond/water. Fishing is not allowed haha. Spanky enjoyed walking around the park. We let him roam around in the fenced small dogs section and then in the normal area. A lot of people go there and let their dogs free. It's wonderful seeing all the dogs play and sniff each other. It's like play dates for dogs so they can play, explore, and have fun. I haven't been to a lot of dog parks but I thought this park was nice. It's great for any age dogs. It's pretty well maintained by the Palmetto Bay government staff. Bring a towel or paper towels with you if you want to wipe your friends' paws after the park, they can get pretty messy from the dirt haha.

This is a fantastic dog park tucked away on US-1 in Palmetto Bay. My three year old German Shepard - Coonhound mix (Riley) absolutely loves coming here (and frankly, as a dog lover, so do I). This park offers a lot of space for dogs to run, a water feature for dogs to swim in, and a walking path for their human companions. The area is nicely shaded, which is awesome. There are places to sit, lots of waste bins and bag, and even a dog wash area to clean up. Like any responsible dog mom, I had looked into this place before moving down to Miami. Riley had spent her entire life in Michigan, playing in snow and (in the warmer months) swimming in Lake Superior. I wasn't sure how she would do at a dog park, but now I wonder why I ever thought such a silly thing. While she's friendly to other dogs, all she wants to do is look for squirrels, find sticks, and swim in the water at Wayside. It is by far her favorite place to visit. Most other dogs that come to the park are friendly and it seems that a lot of people decide to introduce their new pups to this particular dog park compared to others. There have been only a couple of instances where some dogs haven't been super friendly, but I haven't seen anything get out of control (most owners are responsible and watch their dog(s) very closely). Most of the other dog owners are very friendly (what kind of dog lover isn't?!). If you haven't brought your pup here, try it out! The busiest days are the weekends, typically between 3-5.

This park is super good if you want to let the dog run around and it doesn't get super full of dogs. It is great for puppies too

I don't like dog parks in general, I dislike that owners have no control over their dogs. I train dogs for a living, so people that have control over their dogs are my favorites! I head to this park with pooches in the middle of the day. Usually then we make a friend or two, whom are good people who watch their dogs. I'm not sure how clean the water is. The water looks blue and pretty. I enjoy walking the trail around the big park with the puppies, then letting them swim. And then doing another lap to dry off. Tons of shade to sit under, benches, poop bags, trash cans. Two entrances

Following review written by Maddie and Brody F. We love going to any dog park but this one is our favorite. We're on the small side according to mom and dad so we love that there is a separate area for dogs our size. We do love to walk around the big park too, and we find that all the dogs seem to be on their best behavior. We don't go swimming much but the big dogs love to swim in the pond. The only complaint is that there's lots of dirt which often turns to mud. This is no problem with us, we love the mud but the problem is when we get home mom makes us take a bath. Mom likes the easy, safe parking, the bags for clean up that are all around, and that the park is well maintained. Four paws!

Pulled this needle out of my dogs paw this morning, stay away from this dog park!!!!
    Philip L.

MY DOG HAD A 1inch NEEDLE PULLED OUT OF HER PAW THIS MORNING, AS IN A SYRINGE!!!! Don't go here We used to love this park, it was so close to our house and our dogs love swimming there. Unfortunately I took them yesterday, April 3, 2015 and as we're leaving my dog was walking on the edge of the grass and then started running in circles and shaking her arm. Couldn't figure out what it was yesterday, but she was favoring her paw on and off all night. This morning we take a look again and find the syringe tip being pushed out slightly by a bit of puss. We grabbed the tweezer and pulled a one in needle tip out of her paw. Vet said she will be okay, got some antibiotics and pain meds. I suggest going to tropical dog park or trails and tails

Toasty(on right) gets a smooch from a new friend
    Mark D.

I've taken my Pitweiler Toasty here twice and she loves it. The park is situated around a rock pit that was dug many years ago when they were building US 1 and the FEC railroad. Even in the summer, temperatures are bearable as there are an abundance of picturesque shade trees. I go during the week when there are fewer dogs, but on the weekends I imagine it gets busy. Still the park is large enough for a dog to get plenty of exercise swimming and running. . One star off because the dogs' drinking fountain had very little pressure and the water was really hot. Also, a restroom facility for the humans would be nice.

    Hanging out by the pond!

It's a clean park but the available space for little pups is too small. I met some nice pet owners which made the trip a nice ride.

Nice place. Not a park to run your dog but if ur looking just to relax with your dog it's a cool place.

It felt really nice to be able to have a place for the doggies to play and run again. The water fountain inside the big dogs area finally got fixed. I love this park and am so thankful that it's open back to normal now. My dog loves his furry friends that frequently comes to this park too and I love walking around to get some exercise in while he plays. The park staff members that I've encountered through the pandemic so far have been nice, considerate, and helpful. Lately, this staff member has been opening the doors for us, that's so nice!
