I love tropical park. I've been coming to this park for like 30 years . Not sure if you are a fan of running you can use causeway and bridges for hill and speed work. There's something nostalgic about running up what used to feel like a mountain, but in actuality is a hill. This park has a bit of everything for folks who want to get in a jog in a safe and close place to birthday parties, events, family outings, even spend a little bit of time on the water There are basketball and tennis courts and a great equestrian center . The other side of this park used to be a winter time Christmas celebration. The park itself has a plethora of random parking spots , but my favorite thing has to be being outdoors in a safe place Please, no as with virtually all other places, I am not wanting to hang around after dark . Additionally, though there is a regulation 400 m track on the bird road side of the park that opens early, I am not one to arrive somewhere before the sun comes up. That being said the hours of operation are convenient for folks who are visiting and want to just relax or for those that are training for something physical and getting healthy and prefer being outdoors instead of inside a gym with recirculated air Tip: the distance from SW. 56th St. to SW. 40th St. is exactly 1 mile. If you run along the west side of the park, you can literally run safely without heavily tracking distance and instead focus on the run and how you feel I highly encourage anyone who hasn't been to this park to visit it and touch grass every now and then . This was a fun event until end of night we bought $100 in food from food truck and security kicked us out when we sat down to eat. My little brother who has cereble palsy in a wheel chair and my elderly mother. Mind you no apologies. Also food truck people didnt warn us we cudnt eat there and sold us all that food. We live in Homestead and food was cold by time we got home. Police officers were nice at event but security staff has no customer service experiance or value. What a sad way to treat people who paid for tickets. My little brother is what hurts me most he took one bite off his taco when the rude security in charge came to kick us out. read more

I first discovered Tropical Park back in 1987, when Miami was still a little raw around the edges -- a city caught between old Florida swamps and the neon-soaked swagger of Miami Vice. Back then, Bird Road felt like the edge of the world, and Tropical Park was this endless expanse of open space where families came to play, grill, fish, and escape the chaos. It's also where I learned to drive -- at the wildly responsible age of 10 -- when my grandfather slid behind the passenger seat of his 1986 Dodge Aries K car and handed me the wheel. There were no driving apps, no backup cameras, and definitely no safety lectures. Just "figure it out" and a stretch of empty pavement. Tropical Park gave me my first taste of freedom -- and probably shaved a few years off my grandfather's life expectancy. This park has always been Miami's backyard. Baseball fields, basketball courts, tennis courts, and trails snake around lakes where people fish, jog, and picnic. But for decades, the crown jewel of Tropical Park was Santa's Enchanted Forest -- Miami's gloriously over-the-top Christmas carnival. It was weird, chaotic, and perfect. And now it's gone. Santa's Forest packed up and left Tropical Park, and while it pops up elsewhere, it will never be the same. One of if not the premier park in all of Miami. This park has almost everything. It could use a disc golf course but maybe that's just me. You could spend a great day here playing some tennis, going for a nice walk around the lake, having a picnic on top of the hill, working out around the track or even shooting some hoops. Also, if they ain't going to put a disc golf course here might as well build a stadium for the Canes and Inter Miami. Great spot for it read more

Tropical Park in Miami is a great spot for all types of outdoor activities. I don't come into Miami too often for outdoor activities but this is my absolute favorite park to come to play and watch sports. The first time I came here years ago was to try out tennis with some friends and another time for a lil picnic. For recent visits, I've come to check out the pickle ball courts and they actually seemed to have opened new ones. They used to only have four courts that which would always be packed but they opened up 8 new courts so now they have a total of 12! I also like to come here and watch people play soccer and absolutely love their track that is open for anyone to walk or run at. A great park in Miami to get some physical activity in. read more

Earlier today, we went to Tropical Park to attend the 2nd annual Miami Dade Country Fest with a couple of friends. It was a nice sunny day but a bit hot. There was a good-sized crowd of families there. This is not a huge fair, but it is adequate in size. There are signs to the parking area as you turn into the park. Once you have parked, a bus will take you to the Fest. It was a bit of a wait, though. There were fun things to do similar to a county fair. There are also many photo opportunities, which were fun! There's a rodeo in the afternoon ($75), pony rides for kids at Farmville, games and fun rides, award winning cattle and horses to look at, and small business food booths and food trucks as well as small vendors. There's something for everyone. We enjoyed ourselves. read more

Tropical park is one of miamis best family parks. With its wide spread area and many different activities to engage in. Tropical park is filled with paths to walk, run, or bike. Hills to jog up, lakes to sit by or sail small boats. Many individually spaced out cabanas to rent for family parties. A dog park for your furry friends. Exercise machines spread out as well as play grounds for kids. Wide spread fields that can be utilized for recreational sports and pick up games. Several basketball ball courts, tennis courts, and pickle ball courts. Tropical park also has outdoor turf fields for soccer and a whole football stadium. This park hosts many large events like food competitions, winter wonderlands, soccer games, football games along with many other sporting and non sporting events. I came here on Thanksgiving for the Miami Baptist Turkey Trot, so maybe not the best representation of the park. However, I did run through a lot of the park and walked around for a bit after the race was over. The park seems quite nice and well-maintained. There is a lot of space between things, so it feels more like a park than just a bunch of tennis courts and ball fields jammed together. So, I think it is a good place to go for a walk or a jog, too. There were also clean bathrooms in the middle of the park. There is plenty of parking and since it is right off of a highway, it is really easy to get to as well. read more

I'd like to make a formal complaint. I went to take my small daughters to the playground in front of shelter 11, and was unable to stay due to irresponsible adults camping out on the sand inside the actual playground area, smoking cigars/cigarettes and drinking alcohol. I tried calling the office to see if someone could help, but no one answered the phone. I had to jump through hoops just to get in contact with someone who didnt even seem to care. This is unacceptable. There are designated areas and picnic table separated from the playground (not ver far) for this. The playground area is for kids, not parties. ​ read more

Great open spaces and shaded areas to have family fun. There are basketball hoops, tennis courts, huge grassy areas, and pavilions available. The equestrian center wasn't open, but it looked huge. Plenty of parking and no one encroached on anyone else's space. It was nice for a family BBQ gathering on a hot summer day. The bathrooms were open, clean, and well supplied. The staff came around often to empty the trash cans! Huge points for that! read more

This review of the Tropical Park focuses on the Haunted Circus that is currently being held in there. I originally went there the opening week, not expecting much, to be honest, but I enjoyed the show. It is a light-hearted interactive show that is made up of a clue to be solved by going through 7 tents and getting a letter from each tent that spells out the name of the missing member of the circus. But don't take it seriously, this is not a escape room. Just enjoy the ambiance and the actors playing a part. So I decided to take my kids the next week. They had changed a couple of things, like they were now charging for parking and so, but overall my kids enjoyed it as well. The circus was more crowded and we were rushed through some of the tents, but a good experience otherwise. read more

This is one of the most awesomest parks that I have visited. They have absolutely everything. It is more of a complex. The park has a very nice dog park, Bark Park, which is the only place in the park that fur babies are allowed. There are two lakes near the front of the park with benches and picnic tables along it. They are gorgeous. There is no swimming in them though. This park just keeps going and going covering almost 250 acres. There is tons of parking here. There are picnic tables scattered throughout the park as well as covered pavilions with picnic tables. There are a row of very nice yellow pavilions with inside grills that look like a fire place. The park also has some very nice lighted baseball fields and batting cages. There are some nice soccer fields across from the baseball fields, but they were locked and no one could get in. There is however, an open field, with two kickball/baseball diamonds in the front of the park that can be used for other sports such as football and soccer. They are not as nice as the baseball fields in the center of the park, but they will do. There are also some of the best maintained tennis courts that I have seen in a park here. You will find two awesome full basketball courts by the tennis courts and next to the recreation center. I have never seen handball courts at any park that I have visited, but this place does. They are very nice too. Some places, such as the tennis courts and handball courts, require that you check-in and pay to use them. The park has an outdoor workout area with equipment in a circle. It is by the big playground. The big playground is lined with sand and has a very huge jungle gym and climbing stuff under a large blue canopy. You will find a spot with other workout bars, monkey bars and straps in that area as well. A few people were working out over there during my visit. There is a smaller playground near the back of the park, behind the community center. It is very small and consists of a spider web, parallel bars, jungle gym and a small slide. The floor is covered with the rubber mat material. Because the park is so large, it provides for some awesome running and walking. There are even some big hills that you can incorporate in your workout. The park hosts sports leagues and lessons. Even with all the amenities there is a lot of space to have a picnic, throw a frisbee, or sit and relax by one of the lakes. This is one of the best parks that you will find, and have have been to parks all around the country. If i could give it six stars I would. I promise you will find something you like to do here. read more

Tropical Park is located at Bird Road and Palmetto Expressway. From 1931 until 1972, this was the 245 acre Tropical Park Race Track where people could place bets on horse racing.. Financial pressure led to the track being sold to Miami-Dade County for 9.7 million dollars. The county also bought additional land increasing the size of the park to 275 acres. With some more money kicked in by the federal government, Tropical Acres Park opened in July, 4, 1978. Popular activities for park goers at the time included tennis, racquetball, baseball, fishing, swimming, horseback riding, and picnics.. Today more than 1,500,000 visitors to the park every year still enjoy the same activities. Many people come to the park to bike, walk, run on the miles of paved pathways. Other amenities include a fitness court and boxing center. The Ronald Equestrian Center hosts 36 horse shows a year while the Mary Abreu Community Center has 4,320 square feet of meeting space and can hold up to 250 people. The tennis center has 12 wheel chair accessible, lighted tennis courts. There is also a track and stadium. There are four lakes in the park with paddle boats and fresh water fishing. For the four legged furry friends there is a 2 acre dog park,. The park is currently being used as a Covid testing site. Tropical Park is also famous for its yearly seasonal event, Santa's Enchanted Forest, which runs from November through January. They have currently lost their lease with the city and they have launched a petition to try and save the popular event. If you search on the internet about them there are many claims of animal abuse so Miami may feel that this is the right time to end Santa's Enchanted Forest and replace it with something less controversial. I had a great time exploring this massive park that truly has something for everyone. I especially loved exercising on the large hill by the dog park. Hills are a scarce commodity in South Florida so I always take advantage of incline running when I find it. As I was resting at the top of the hill I saw the four person surrey cycles ride below. It looked like so much fun and I definitely want to come back and try that. One visit to this park and you will quickly see why this has been such a popular destination for recreation in Miami for more than forty years. read more

Beautiful park and one of my favorites here in Miami. It's a bona-fide classic, and for good reason!Whether you want to have a picnic, hit the batting cages, walk along the lake, bring your dog, Tropical Park has got it all! We love to come here and go to 'the mountain' , a hill that near one of the larger lakes - it's a great place to get a heart pumping workout running up and the down the hill. We also enjoyed a great afternoon of Kite Flying with our son here. Very big park and lots of parking. Free to get in. There's also an equestrian center and I've been to some of the shows and livestock events here - they're good! As an added bonus there are some GREAT restaurants and breweries nearby, so it's great to make a day out of it. This park is a big one! Opening way back in 1978, it's showing it's age big time. There's a paved path that almost goes all around the majority of the park that people use for the rented bikes or walking. Hanging out by the lake here is peaceful, as well as relaxing on the hill that's just north of it. There's a few restrooms throughout the the park, but we were only able to find one set working. There's many activities here with a few baseball diamonds. Come here on the weekend and you'll see lots of people enjoying themselves; many family picnics. Loved coming here as a kid. So much to do and so much space for it all. It's been years though and although I drive past it all the time, haven't been in a minute. Then the Asian cultural fest moves from its prior location to here, perfect. There's so much to do here so be prepared and have patience for parking. After about 10 minutes I found my spot (walked the miles and miles just kidding) and walked just across a field while passing skaters, runners, a playground and bicyclists. Once paying for the fest we were met by numerous vendors selling all types of things from clothing, plants, pop up cards, handmade purses, jewelry, incense and more. The entertainment ranged from traditional Thai dancing, martial arts performances, drum playing, and much more. There was plenty of space to bring blankets and chairs and the view was greenery, the turnpike (lol) and one of the parks lakes. On the lake they did have a rowing event and even invited people to join their club. Dance performers on stage encouraged the crowd to join in. There were dance routines from the UM dance troupe also performing so there was lots to see. Food vendors weren't as big but there was plenty to get your appetite going. We always get the lemongrass sausages, fish balls, papaya salad, the beef and pork jerky, boba and thai tea etc. We go all out for traditional dishes. While walking around there was an actual art gallery pop up show casing Covid art and the artist herself encouraged you to write on the art pieces that spoke to you. Not going to lie, I had an emotional moment. There was no prejudice here. You could write whatever you wanted. It was a moment to let go of everything you felt. For kids activities there was rock climbing, a jumping thing, rocket ship slide, and fave painting. It was a beautiful sunny yet windy day so this outdoor fest was a perfect day and not to mention after to enjoy the park itself. read more

During COVID there's not that many people at the park and if there are any people everyone is very spaced out so no one is at risk since you are outside. Nevertheless, I enjoy this park every time I come whether it's bike riding, walking, jogging, or having a quick work out session. The views are very relaxing and calming. Plenty of parking, spaces, soccor fields, dog walk area, exercise/training area, pavillions, bbq covered areas and lakes. Tropical park is right off of the highway and has 2 entrances/exits. I was here for UYE. We had Pavillion #12 which is next to one of the soccor fields and by the lake. The pavillion came with electrical outlets, plenty of benches and garbage cans. There is a bathroom area, I am sure plenty throughout the park. The park was busy with people and the various activities going on. read more

I love tropical park. There is literally something for everyone to do there. The park is huge in between bird road and Miller drive. I've come here for numerous occasions spanning from a baby shower, sport event, to walking around with the kids. This time we came to tire the kids out. The have a huge hill on one side next to the dog park(yes they have a dog park). We made the kids run up and down the hill playing with a soccer ball. Then my son rode his scooter down a trail they have for a while. Other kids were doing the same. We took them out by the play yard and they got some more fun in which included sand. The park is great but it can get packed and parking can get hectic. That's my biggest pet peeve. Great park for any outdoor activity. read more

I recently moved closer to Tropical Park and am slowly becoming familiar with all it has to offer. Spoiler alert: There's a lot! Whether you're into tennis, track, baseball, soccer, boxing, running, walking, biking, or ya know, just hanging out, there is something here for everyone! So far, I've come twice for a 5K walk and a couple of other times with my pup. What is probably the biggest bummer for me is the fact dogs are solely allowed in the designated dog park, and cannot walk around even if on a leash (although for the 5K they let you bring pups). That being said, the dog park is nice and big, with plenty of room for them to roam around. There are two sections to separate the dogs by size, as well. I just prefer walking WITH my dog. I must come in off times, because I've never seen it overrun with people as others report. There are different entrances and parking lots all around, so you can pick the spot that best fits your needs and where exactly you'll be heading. It's good to have this in mind and not "wing it" because you could end up walking for a very long time to find your group. All in all, this is a solid go-to park for residents in the area. I'm sure many more days spent here are in my future! read more

They have plenty of amenities and you can play basketball, football, soccer, baseball, tennis, exercise, use the play ground, have a picnic, rent some bikes on the weekend. You can also rent the shelters for parties, gatherings and celebrations. They also have a dog park with 2 sections. One for small dogs and another for big dogs. My new summer spot for the month of June and I ain't mad at it lol! My son just recently joined a running crew from his school that's called Press on (you can find them on eventbrite as well) and he really enjoys it. I on the other hand have been doing a little jogging and just enjoying the trails inside the park. I sometimes take my dog because the have included a dog park for small and big dogs. On Saturdays they have a fresh market. It feels good to be out there and seeing so many families enjoying themselves rather then being home or playing video games. I have amazing memories here growing up this park was the Birthday party spot and still is. They have two entrances one on Miller and Bird Rd. The park is clean with an occasional iguana or raccoon appearance but overall a great park in Miami. read more

I enjoyed going to this park very much. I love that they have different shelters for special gatherings and occasions. It is very pretty and green with lots of wonderful amenities such as tennis courts, soccer fields, play grounds, and even a boxing center. I love the different shelters throughout the park as a nice way to gather with friends and family to celebrate special occasions. The only issue I encountered was that it took me 20 minutes while inside the park to find shelter 12 while on the phone with someone at that location. I noticed a lot of signs for covid vaccines and testing which I think it wonderful. I think it would be good to also incorporate signs leading to the shelters and signs outside each shelter that are visible from the street with arrows to better direct visitors looking for specific shelters. Overall, the park was amazing and the lake view was beautiful. I enjoyed being surrounded by nature. The bathrooms were clean and were located within close walking distance which was nice. I would recommend this location for family gatheringa, parties, play dates, and sports related activities. The staff was also very attentive and came by and checked on us a couple times to turn on the shelter lights and to make sure we had what we needed. read more

Been going to Tropical Park sine AI moved to South Florida many years ago, but never did a Yelp review on it. Today had a my cousins daughters bridal shower at pavilion 11 and figure be a good time to do it. Tropical Park is one of Miami Dade's lager recreational parks that has tennis, racketball, basketball and even boxing. The park has a large lake and paddles boats that can rented out along with many pavilion that can also be rented out for family, corporate or social events. Tropical Park was once open to horse racing, but now uses stables and area for equestrian events and occasional local concerts. It's also home to Santas a Enchanted Forest, motorcycle clubs gatherings on Thursday night to show off bikes. The site of this morning's 5am workout: a 45 minute run at easy pace on paths around the park and concluding with 4 x 30 yard flying sprints to engage some fast twitch muscles. I was surprised we were not alone and a significant number of people on the track already doing some sort of interval training. Expect to be here Tuesday and Thursday morning's as indicated on Steadfast Running (steadfastrunning.weebly.com). The workout went well although legs were a little heavy from Monday's 70 min run. Feel free to join us for our runs any time. Previously visited this park looking to enter the annual Enchanted Forest, however upon noticing the traffic jam I said, "Maybe next year Dear. This park has a lot going for it. It's got many wide open spaces to run which are set back far from the street and parking lots so there's no vehicular traffic to be concerned about; There are also lots of meandering walking/biking paths, shelters and areas for picnicking or parties, a big hill to run up and roll down, a few lakes and ponds and lots of activities including a playground for the kids, a number of tennis courts, basketball courts and baseball/softball diamonds, a multipurpose football/soccer/track field with bleachers on both sides, batting cages and even a dog park. This is also where the infamous "Santa's Enchanted Forest" is located from early November through mid January each year. One hidden and unexpected gem inside Tropical Park park is the law enforcement officer's memorial, which, if reviewed by itself would get 5 stars from me. There are names listed of all the men/women from various law enforcement agencies who've lost their lives in the line of duty in our area, a smaller memorial dedicated to the law enforcement personnel who lost their lives in the collapse of the World Trade Center in New York, and even an area dedicated to police dogs who've been killed in the line of duty. There's a large statue of a German Shepherd and there are probably 300 bricks with dog's names inscribed in them, and their date of birth and date they passed away. So why only 3 stars for this park overall? I bicycled to and through this park on a Sunday afternoon a few months back with one of my buddies, and simply put, we couldn't really check out the park itself or enjoy the ride through because it was so completely overrun and over capacity with people. They were having fun and enjoying themselves, which is what a public park is all about, but there were so many kids running around, people riding the rented 4 person bicycle carts and people scattered everywhere that it was nearly impossible to ride or walk anywhere without being completely concentrated on 1) Not hitting anyone and 2) Watching out for others who weren't watching where they were going and would randomly plow into you. After seeing this park and nearby AD Barnes Park which is only a few blocks away, I think I'm a bigger fan of AD Barnes. It's smaller, more intimate, seems to be a bit more civilized, there are less people and it also has a swimming pool, a nature center and nature trails that I'm a fan of. read more

Went to Tropical Park the other day. Found it to lack privacy and way too crowded. It was dirty with a lot of trash near ponds. Not well maintained. Lots of loud music and too many families. Not my taste. If you're for a quiet place to relax, this isn't the place. read more
