We started with a seasonal special event, the Mango Tasting Tour. Our guide, Madelyn was a font of knowledge about the park itself, the trees we were passing through, and the fruits we sampled. I think in the end it was about 8 different varieties and everyone on the tour had their own favorites. Then we went back to base for different tasting tour with Phillip, who showed us new areas of the park and we tasted another 6 fruits with him! Really cool fruits like longan and caviar limes, but also things I'd never heard of, like bael and bilimbi. Once our tours were done we went back to the gift shop / lobby for some cold drinks. They sell iced coffee, soda, energy drinks, Gatorade, and even beer, wine, and cider, so something for everyone. You can also simply walk the grounds on your own if you don't feel like riding around in a tram. Anything on the ground is up for grabs, so if you want to try something go ahead and taste it! They do have rules, no picking growing fruits, and you can't take fruit home, but they welcome you taking all the seeds you want.

The path will wind and walk you around the property, where you can not only see the trees, but also the ponds and invasive iguana population. Beautiful little waterfall features are also on the property. We took the tram tour, offered daily at 11:00 and 1:30. Andrew was very knowledgeable, excited and passionate about his work and interests in gardening, and since there were just four of us on the tour, he offered samples of some freshly picked produce. He also shared interesting facts and information - the bananas we eat today are overproduced and so prone to disease, that likely we will no longer have them in the next 8 years! Instead, we should diversify our farming practices and learn to enjoy things like the dwarf Brazilian bananas, and any of the plethora other varieties.

We're absolutely delighted to overnight in quiet Pod 5 site 1 which is a back in site with full hookup. Larry Thompson was a humor columnist for the Miami Herald for more than two decades until his death February 18, 1973. He is in the Florida Newspaper Hall of Fame. His wife Gladys "Penny" Thompson (née Rhodes), who died September 22, 1975, was a pioneer in women's aviation during the 1940s-1950s. She is in the Florida Aviation Hall of Fame and the Florida Women's Hall of Fame. She was the Florida chapter president of the Ninety-Nines, the women's pilot organization founded by Amelia Earhart. While in the Civil Air Patrol, she flew over the Gulf of Mexico searching for German submarines during World War II. Her plane was one of several hundred destroyed in a 1945 blimp hangar fire at the Naval Air Station Richmond, part of which was rebuilt as the park.

There is a river/channel running through the park, it's really nice to stroll along it, though the bridges could be prettier. There are people sitting along the river feed ducks (though there are signs telling you not to). There's a Meditation Garden. We went on a Saturday and found a farmer's market. It doesn't have any fresh produce stand, despite the name, but there are plenty of delicious eats and artisanal crafts.

The field is ginormous and has a disc golf course. A little further down from that area is another part of the park. There is a large parking lot over there and a huge football/soccer field and 8-10 artificial turf soccer fields that are enclosed by a fence. They have a covered patio area with picnic tables over there as well. Even though there are a bunch of trees around, there is not a lot of shade on either section of the park, so plan accordingly. You do not need a military ID to visit the park, as it sits outside of the gate. It is a very peaceful park and easy to get to. If you are looking for a low key park to hang out and relax then this is your spot.

There is a vast amount of trees to have a picnic, relax, take a nap, climb, take some shade in and more. There is a soccer field on one side that you can catch team players breaking a sweat every weekend to. They have a small sheltered pavillion and picnic tables scattered throughout. I've seen alot of people have events like birthday parties and picnics here and it's so spacious you can invite your whole family and not worry about getting crowded. Parking is everywhere so it will never be a problem. This park is more laid back and alot of open space greenery type. You can make the best of it by getting creative and bringing your own sports equipment and gathering with some friends to really enjoy it. I've even come out here with golf clubs just to hit some balls out. So if you want to get some fresh air and enjoy the outdoors this is a great park location down south.

Even has a few grills and picnic tables available for a BBQ. The only reason I give this park 4 stars is because there was quite a bit of litter. The landscapes were beautiful but we were excited about the animals too. The gardens close at 5:30 pm but they take the animals (donkeys, cow, goats and pig) away at 4 pm, which we didn't know. So they were being put away as we got there. The playground is nice, although not very big, my girls enjoyed it. The water park closes earlier than the rest of the gardens too. Overall a lot of the "experiences" seemed to be closed on the Sunday we visited. Not sure it was worth the drive.

For the most part, owners are very observant and responsible for their dogs. If a dog is causing a problem, I've always seen the owner remove it from the park. Thank you for that!! Responsible dog owners are the best. I wish there was more parking, because during busy hours it fills up fast. Lots of great amenities, including trash/recycling cans, dog poop bag stations, water fountains, pet wash station, pavilion with picnic table and an outlet, little free library, etc. This park is also HUGE- we love doing laps on the walking path or watching our dog play in the water. Overall very clean too.
