Went to Perkins in Avondale PA. The food was excellent. The service was good and fast. The selection is great.

They always mess up our takeout orders, last one was soo disgusting that we wont be back!! First of all i ordered the Hibachi Shrimp. Got home to eat, it was some chopped up breaded chicken fingers instead, on scraggly peppers, totally wrong and disgusting, couldnt eat it and threw it out! Then my husbands grilled talapia was so disgusting, it smelled like rotton dead fish, with a few measly scrawy shrimp on it, he said it was the worst dinner ever!! These meals are like 16.00 and 17.00 each!! Theyve messed up in the past and we vowed to never go again, but this was the LAST straw! They have these inexperienced 17 year olds who dont know how to place a take out order, and whoever was the cook that day, April 8th, 2026 was the worst cook ever!!! Perkins quality and service has gone downhill for the last 7 years at least, it was soo much better in the early 2000s, theyve just lost us customers, we arent coming back ever again!! High priced garbage food!! read more

This was a solid option for dinner while we were in the area. I ordered the chicken pot pie with a side salad and a slice of pie. I think it was around $10. The chicken pot pie was hearty and the crust was decent as well. Portion size was nice; I ended up taking most of it home. My dessert, a slice of Lemon Merengue, ended up in a to-go container. The pie was a bit too sweet for me and there was not enough crust to balance the tartness. It looks like they run promotions on different nights. Great breakfast but the muffins are a disappointment. They had been a major draw but now, the muffins from BJ's are better. That was not a muffin made to a quality level that exceeded store bought. Either find a better distributor or excercise greater care in production. read more

Much better than Perkins in DE. However, they will always make you wait, regardless of how full the restaurant is. I'm not kidding - you give your name and before you can sit down on the bench they will call it. Ordered scrambled eggs recently and they were terrible. Service was great.... Disappointed with spread for waffle instead of butter. That fake stuff doesn't even melt. Also, carton eggs use for scrambled. Thin layer cooked and what looks to be roughly chopped by a spatula. Tastes like butter flavored cooking spray. So carton eggs that taste like butter and spread for my waffle that tastes like crap for my waffle. Will I go back??? Probably Not! read more

Stopped here on our way back from Lancaster. My first time at a Perkins. We had Dana as a waitress. She was very friendly. First meal of the day. I was so hungry I didn't even snap a pic of our food. I ordered off the fit menu. It was egg mushrooms and spinach scramble. It came with wheat toast and a fruit cup. The toast had no butter and the fruit cup was not as pictured. It had one grape and the rest was some unripened melon. the spinach and mushrooms were barely cooked and the onions were just about raw. It actually made me sick. My partner orders a combo meal, which included pancakes. He was pleased with his food. The coffee was fresh and hot. The manager and older gentleman stood in the kitchen and would scream something about every 5 min. It was rather annoying. You could even see it bothered the employees. I've been visiting this Perkins for 30+ years. I've never had a bad experience. The food is good, the coffee is good, and the staff are the best. I've probably tried most of the breakfast menu and my favorite dishes are the skillet meals. The breakfast potatoes are always cooked nice and crispy. The restaurant is clean but a little rough around the edges as it could use a new decor. But that's typical of any good diner. Perkins stills makes some of the best bakery items. You can stop in just for these goodies. Convenient location with a shopping center across the street. read more

We've stopped in here several times over the years. The hubby and I had a nice brunch here yesterday on our way home from a weekend in Maryland. The place was packed around 11:30 a.m. or so on a Sunday, so it's obvious it's a pretty popular place. Our food came out pretty quickly though and our server was pleasant and attentive. It's definitely a bit pricier than other similar chains, although I have to say I think their menu has a lot more to offer. I really enjoyed the Mediterranean Omelet that I got - plenty of feta and spinach and some roasted tomatoes, topped with a nice hollandaise sauce. I like that you have a choice of 3 kinds of potatoes (shredded hash browns, breakfast potatoes/home fries, and tater tots). I do love tater tots but went with the shredded hash browns this time and they were good with just enough crispiness to them. My husband had the corned beef special breakfast which was good, but it was obviously just canned corned beef. The pancakes were perfect and they have nice syrups to choose from. Overall, Perkins is a great place for a homey meal - if it were closer, I would definitely go more often, as I saw quite a few things on the menu that I would like to try. read more

It's been a long time since I've stepped into a Perkins restaurant. I think the last time was back when I was a teen many years ago on a family vacation in PA. It was good then, and it's good now. I stopped in with the family yesterday for semi breakfast/lunch. It was about 2 in the afternoon but none of had eaten yet so the majority of us sitting at the table had breakfast. The only stray was Mom having a sandwich called the Super BLT. I had a Corned Beef Hash breakfast combo, my brother had a Chicken & Gravy breakfast combo and my nephew had chocolate chip pancakes. They were on the down side of the lunch rush and still had a fairly full dining room. Our server was very friendly and took care of our drinks while waiting for us to make up our minds. She was also very attentive and cheerful throughout the visit. Food order to serving time was also quicker than expected. They really did a good job. My meal was delicious and I didn't hear any complaints from the rest of the table. Portions were excellent and every plate was empty. I'm looking forward to stopping in again during a future trip up here to PA. read more

The food is almost what you'd expect, it's similar to a denny's or an ihop, or any real diner. Although my experience was ruined when a worker by the name of Keith kept hitting on my girlfriend and making inappropriate remarks towards her. I believe that he is the manager so there wasn't really anything I could do about it other than not leaving a tip. Keep in mind we are both 16 so this was a very uncomfortable experience. read more

Tried to go with my family last weekend after having multiple bad experiences there. The manager sheron was yelling at everyone. You can clearly hear it from across the restaurant. Stopped here for breakfast on the way back from the beach. Didn't have any expectations as I'm not familiar with this restaurant chain. Obliviously business is good because the place was packed but we were seated after a short wait. The lobby area could use some work though.....very little seating and people standing around awkwardly...hard to tell who has their name in or who is in line for the register etc... Menu was plentiful, actually a little too many options. Some dishes seemed to be repeats with just minor changes. The prices I felt were high compared to other places we've been. But with that being said the food came out fast, although it didn't look as good as in the menu, it was tasty. A selection of 3 different syrups were presented o us which I liked and our service was fast/friendly. A bit of confusion at the end of our meal when we were presented with our bill. A restaurant of this size/service should have waitress service take the check but instead you go back out to the lobby to wait in line to pay the bill. I expect that from a diner but not a full service restaurant, just a pet peeve of mine I guess. Overall ok experience, not great but not horrible. Really enjoyed our meal here. They have coke freestyle with 100+ drinks. I had breakfast and eggs and pancakes were perfect. My son had a big burger and he enjoyed it with onion rings. We did not have room for the baked goods that looked great at the counter. Service was good and fast. read more

This Perkins is on northbound Route 41, just to the north of Avondale. The restaurant did get very busy on the weekend morning when I was there, but I thought they handled the crowd pretty well and had everyone seated in a timely manner. The food is typical diner-like food, similar to Denny's and IHOP. Service was good and the restaurant interior did appear to be kept in fairly good condition. read more

We always stop here whenever we go to Longwood Gardens due to its proximity. Food is nothing fancy, but consistently good, inexpensive. Service is quick, coffee is good, array of dessert to choose from their bakery. I think their garlic grilled tilapia is not seasoned for the benefit of those cutting back on salt, but it is moist and not overly done. One can always add salt and pepper to taste. I like their wild berry pie with no added sugar. read more

Little slow getting in. Getting food was about 20 mins and that was just the kids meals then another 10 for the rest of the plates. Mac and cheese for one child was defiantly from the box. And the blueberry in the pancakes were from frozen. All food was warm not hot when we got it. Service could have been better wait times shorter and just a little bit friendlier. read more

My friend and I enjoyed a delicious meal at this restaurant tonight. The hostess was friendly, the waitress was so accommodating, and the bus person was so enjoyable to talk to that we thought he was the manager. It was such a happy place! EXCEPT for the sour manager who came out of the kitchen and stared at the hostess, stared at us, and then walked over to the bus person who was now cleaning the floor. I wished he could have found the professional sense to ask how our meal was as we were walking out the door instead of just staring. I would have told him what a wonderful staff he has working under him. Now I have to think that it might be in spite of him. But he cannot take away the five star rating that they deserve. read more

Perkins has come a long way over the last 15 years. Always a nice time to sit back and people watch although the service varies it's either great or horrible. Wish they had regular servers that always cared about thier jobs. Desserts and coffee are my favorite my kids love love the pancakes and my husband is an omlete lover. read more

Had a bad dinner at another establishment so decided to skip dessert and come in for some pie. Not only did we have great pie and an amazing cup of coffee but we also had tremendous service from Derrick. He was attentive and made sure we had plenty of coffee and water. He mentioned that they had some special chocolate coffee creamers and brought them out to us. He even offered to-go cups of coffee when we left. Thanks for turning our night around! Came here on 11/12/11 with my bff and god daughter. Typical family style restaurant set up...in the middle of the "Sticks". Of course the baked goods are on showcase as soon as you walk in setting your tastebuds up for something sweet. MY goddaughter who is 5 yrs old LOVES this place, so of course, as a cooperative godmommie I am, we had to go to her favorite place. They sell breakfast all day. She got the rainbow pancakes (pancakes with sprinkles on them). My bff got french toast and I ordered a chicken sandwich with swiss cheese and bacon (which I actually do not eat) but there were NO substitutes...:-( the meal came with fries as well. I asked for everything besides the lettuce to be left off the sandwich...but there were pickles on it when I got it. I was a bit disappointed as the chicken was grilled and I wanted it crispy and it wasnt a fillet...it was a few grilled chicken strips in a toasted hamburger bun...kind of not what I thought I read on the menu. Needless to say, I was SO hungry, I had to eat it. The waitress was REALLY sweet. Again, very family oriented place. Lotsa families. Prices werent too bad. My goddaughters pancakes were kind of cold. :-( I did pick up a sample on the way on of the pumpkin creme pie. I ordered a piece of apple caramel pie to go. When it was time to go, our waitress virtually disappeared which made it hard for me to FIND her to tip her. The older woman with the big blonde hair seemed a lil "standoffish" (not sure if she did not like people of color...or people at all) she was NOT friendly or personable. I mean, I would like to see the same SERVICE carried out when I PAY for my meal. Sorry, just not happy with her. Otherwise, nothing special to write home about. Typical Perkins food, which is not 5 star quality (it's a huge chain for those who don't know). However, this location is incredibly clean and the service is what really stood out to me. Our server was 5 star- there when we needed him, not rushing us when we just wanted time to sit and talk. The table next to us had a woman with cancer who needed her toast extremely soft. The patient server apologized when the first round of toast came out too hard and the manager brought out the second try. He talked to her for a good 5 minutes, listening to her story and exchanging a personal story of his own. On our other side was a table of 7 or 8 with two younger kids. Again, the patient server waited on their every need- from more napkins, to extra sauce to an extra fork when one was dropped. One person in their party apologized for keeping him so busy to which he replied "it keeps my night moving faster" with a smile. I know this isn't 5 star food, but when you have service at an establishment like this you have to give credit where it is due. Hats off to the manager on your excellent employees and great location. Been going to this restaurant for awhile, mainly cause theres few options in this area where I live..I have had some bad experiences and some good ones..It all depends on the waiter and the cook....yesterday was one of the worst! They have BOGO dinners on Wed..(now they are limiting it to one first Wed a month, so we wont be coming anymore) My husband and I get the Salmon skillet when we have the BOGO, so its a hit or miss if youre gonna get a good one or not..these were the worst! Salmon dried up and no balsamic sauce on it, the vegetables were disgusting.,the sauteed onion was nothing but onion skins, absolutely TERRIBLE!!! Not much of any veggies at all, dried up burnt mushrooms, same for the squash too....usually I wouldve complained, but didnt feel like going through rigamroll!! my husband and I have been 2 this location a few times for breakfast recently. We were pleasantly surprised- the omelettes were very good and the pancakes were delicious.
