The hand pulled noodles here are so good. My partner and I got the small bowls (braised beef and lamb noodle soups), but the portions are HUGE. Highly recommend going for noodle style 6 (thickest, more chewy) or 4. We also got the pork and cabbage dumplings, which are super juicy. This meal was very filling; we could've done without the dumplings, but they're too good to pass up. Service was ok since only one person was handling most FOH procedures. Atmosphere was also fine. It was just really warm, even with the multiple fans running (open doors, no AC), but it was to be expected with the pots of noodles cooking in the front. Since everything is so tasty and affordable, we'll try to make a stop every time we visit :) (Having trouble uploading photos - check Google review) BRAISED BEEF SOUP NOODLE (S) - $13.99 CAD LAMB SOUP NOODLE (S) - $14.99 CAD PORK AND CABBAGE DUMPLINGS (15) - $11.99 CAD

Let's keep things simple so you can get your face in some dumplings fast! We ordered wonton soup dumplings (chicken and shrimp). We also got the pork original soup dumplings followed by the pork and crab soup dumplings. Everything came out quickly and nice and piping hot . The size of the dumplings were good along with sufficient soup in them! The cabbage salad also was delicious with a nice horseradish(?) kick to it! We've been to many soup dumpling places in multiple cities and Mai Xiang Yuan is definitely one of our top picks

One important thing to note: this place is cash‑only, and there's an ATM right at the entrance. That was literally the first thing the employee told us when we walked in, which felt a bit off‑putting. The dumplings themselves were great, and we ordered beers to go with the meal. However, the payment experience was not good. He quoted the total as 70 CAD and told us that was 62 USD since we said we had USD. When we calculated it ourselves, it came out to 49 USD. After we pointed that out, he claimed the "foreign transaction fees go up and down with inflation," which didn't make sense. It felt like we were almost being overcharged. So we ended up getting CAD from the ATM machine outside and paid him, however, we didn't appreciate his dishonesty and felt like he was trying to scam us.

We ran into the restaurant in the middle of a torrential storm, and the wait staff was so kind in giving us extra time to dry off and get settled. We ordered numerous dishes and appetizers to share--family-style dining is definitely the way to go here! So many excellent things on the menu. Come expecting to try something new! We were impressed with the quality of the ingredients, particularly the flavorful broths. The standouts were -- Wonton Soup: the broth was wonderful -- Cucumber Salad: crunchy, spicy, and addictive -- Potato Julianne: unbelievably good with its spicy, tangy seasoning; a must-order! -- Cumin Beef: my father--who usually dislikes anything that is unfamiliar--enjoyed this! -- Pork Belly with Sweet Potato Noodles: this special dish is rich and spicy --Eggplant, Bell Pepper, and Potato To top it off, the owner came out and talked to us about the history behind the names and ingredients of different dishes on the menu. So fascinating! We loved getting a taste of Chinese culinary history from him--what a cap to a delicious evening.

Read the positive reviews and visited for dinner. Came away underwhelmed. Nothing particularly bad,…read morebut nothing great either. Everything we ordered was flat-line on taste and flavor. Despite the forbidding, poorly kept exterior and stair landing, the interior dining area was clean. Food consisted of Vegetarian Spring Rolls (two absolutely tiny fried rolls with a flavorless yellow dipping sauce), Cumin Beef (perhaps the star of the show, relatively tender, with specks of dried chili - not at all spicy), Sweet and Spicy Eggplant (again, okay but lacked spiciness/heat and flavor), and rice, all washed down with marginally cold Tsing Tao beer. Portions were generous, service was hurried/at rapid pace for some reason, but lacked follow-up once the dishes arrived! The meal for two set us back CAD 58+ with hefty taxes and generous tips. Not a bad place by any means, but what we had was nothing spectacular!

Also has a little bit of a modern Hong Kong cafe. Friendly counter person and a great hustle bustle vibe. Upon an subsequent visit I can now say that the dim sums I mentioned above are spot on and the salt and pepper chicken rice bowl was also no slouch. I preferred the appetizers between the two and look forward to trying more of their focused and fun menu. Love the signature chopsticks and attention to packaging detail. They've got it going on!

All of the portions were large to boot. We split an order of two dumplings. One pork with scallion and the other chicken with mushrooms. Both were good, nice and brothy inside. These are the most interesting fried mushrooms you will ever have. They are also the richest fried mushrooms you will ever have. You will adore every single bite - and if you are lucky you can eat 1/3 of a serving before being totally full. I believe the trick here is that the batter is 100 percent egg yolk no white no nothing else. They also do a salt and pepper tofu that is creamy on the inside and crispy on the outside. How often do you see that? Braised seafood in ginger and garlic is the same dish you see in many other Chinese establishments but is lovely here. The squid is tough but the ginger is to die for. I am eager to get back. * * * * P.S. I DID get back. We ordered five more dishes. The amazingness quotient continues. Don't miss their fried spareribs.

Snow peas sautéed with Garlic was clean, fresh and crunchy. Garlic flavor wasn't overly done. Beef Stew over Baby Bok Choy was tender and beefy.
