After we agreed on a price and terms (3 week job, $30k), including that all payments except materials, would be paid at the end of the work, on the day they were supposed to begin work, the company suddenly refused to do the work and canceled the job. The boss, Gelder, showed up demanding that his workers be paid by me throughout the work, and refused to accept this is simply a cost of doing business. Not only are they unreliable, but the day they were supposed to begin, they changed the terms of the agreement and canceled the job leaving me back at square 1. Well after about a year gelder simply began to Be inconsistent. He or his helpers suppose to be going to house monthly. Trees and hedge not cut as agreed. Without warning. Over grown lawn with weeds. My wife and I wanted to complete our patio makeover, which I had been chipping away at for many years. These days I'm just too busy to devote any significant amount of time to the project so we decided to contract it out to someone who really knew what they were doing. On the strength of many of the reviews here, we contacted Gelder. He and his foreman Efrain showed up the next day as scheduled, even a little early. We walked around and hand waved the job, which was mostly concrete work, completing a low retaining wall for a garden, and completing the patio ramps and slabs in preparation for a flagstone veneer down the road. We also wanted a simple irrigation system for the garden. After about 15 minutes of measurement, contemplation and consultation between Gelder and Efrain, a price for the job was offered, which I thought quite reasonable. We were a GO! The crew showed up on a Friday morning, at the appointed time. There was lots of digging and hacking of old tree roots, grading of soil, Steel rebar installation, and forming up for the retaining wall and ramps and patio. Gelder's crew worked like dogs for three days, getting everything ready for the pour (10 yards) which was scheduled for 6:30 am on Monday. Monday morning, the pump and mixer showed up on time, as well as Gelder's crew and his concrete finishing subs. The activity was frenetic and I had a little anxiety over some details, but Efrain assured me that all would be absolutely as I specified, once the finishers were done. By 2 pm, it was all over but the shouting. The job was exactly as I envisioned, Even better than I imagined. A week or so later, Gelder finished off the Irrigation system and garden, much to my wife's delight. Several weeks later one of the plants in the garden didn't make it. Gelder personally came over and replaced the plant. We could not be happier with the way the job turned out, and with Gelder and his crew. read more

The attention to small detail on the final product really impressed my wife and me. In addition to the valves there was a broken pipe that they fixed and made sure all the sprinkler heads were properly working. He didn't charge extra for the broken pipe even though it was more work. He also made sure I knew how to program the sprinkler and that we were aware of the sprinkler heads in one area when we mow the grass.
