I hate to be the one to sully the perfect rating Percy's has received thus far, but I've had a less than stellar experience. Upon the recommendation of a good friend who has been THRILLED with the station's work and the honesty of Percy himself, I called to ask if they could fit me in for some suspension work. I talked with Jerry, who immediately said they were backed up with work (understandable) and that the Monroe Street construction was causing them space and access headaches (again, understandable), but he took my information down and said he'd give me a call back with an estimate. I followed up three times over the next three weeks, and was assured the estimate was still being worked on. I ended my third call with "How about you guys give me a call when you have an estimate for me?" My initial call was FIVE WEEKS ago...and to this day I have not received a single call back from Percy's. Ended up bringing my car to Budd's down the road, where communication and customer service have both been extremely positive, even beyond expectations. read more

Noticed coolant on my garage floor so I brought my car in and was told I needed a new radiator. This seemed fishy to me as the drip on my floor was not even close to under my radiator so I brought it to a different shop for a second opinion and was told my intake manifold gasket was faulty. This should have been replaced by Percy's less than a year ago when he repaired my head gasket so I called 2 weeks ago to see if it was under warranty. Jerry said he'd check and call back the next day. Since that initial call, he hasn't called me once, he has ducked numerous phone calls, he's sworn it was still the radiator even though I have video evidence from the other shop of it being the gasket and that the radiator has no issues, and been completely unprofessional during the few calls I have gotten ahold of him. Today I had to hide my phone number in order to get him to answer. The lack of professionalism is unlike anything I've ever experienced before. read more

Jerry and Pat have serviced our vintage Beetle, Passat and Ford F150 since 2005. I now live in Nashville but still manage to have work done at Percy's when back in Madison. Not only are they top rate mechanics, they are great guys who take the time to get to know their customers. Percy's is one of the coolest landmarks in Madison and has been there since the 30's or 40's. They also carry a great line of tires that are specially designed for all seasons. I know that going to Percy's has saved me money over the dealerships that are always trying to up-sell repairs and over-charge to boot. Anyway, five stars to Percy's! read more

Awful. Percy's on Monroe St. had our van for over a year and a half - that's right, 1-1/2 YEARS!! Lied about working on it. Lied about getting parts. Had it sitting outside in snow and rain to rust away. Finally, my husband figured out what it was and he ordered the parts after they said it was difficult to find fuel injectors. My husband found them with no difficulty. Would not recommend this place. Sure seemed like they were up to something nefarious or just completely incompetent. read more

Jerry has been working on my cars for over 15 years. He works incredibly hard to figure things out to save me a ton of money. He really goes the extra mile to source parts or even make pieces to help save a money. He never tries to sell extras to pad the bill. He is incredibly honest and will keep trying to help even when the situation is difficult. read more

Jerry and his team are just plain good guys who know a ton about cars. I'm a loyal customer who will trust my cars to them as long as I'm in town. It's tough to get in there sometime because of high demand and limited capacity. But they will treat you well and give you a fair price. On a few occasions, they have charged me nothing to look at my car and fix a minor issue. They also do their best to find me "I know a guy" deals on parts. I had an old Chevy Blazer that had lots of quirks. I had it other shops and they just didn't have the knowledge to deal with it. Jerry knew all about it. Can't recommend this place any more highly. read more

Jerry is the owner, he is a VW guru! The problem is he is always booked so call ahead and make an appt and be prepared to leave your car for a day or 2. Labor prices are reasonable and work is excellent read more

Our daughter is a college student at UW and took our 16-year car to be repaired. This was our first time trying Percy's, and we were so pleased with how fairly-priced, thorough and competent their work was. Most service stations try to hit us with a long list of other things that could be done (as one expects with an older car) and then pressure us to do more, but that was not the case at all with Percy's. We are very happy that we have found mechanics near campus that we can trust to do excellent work at reasonable prices. read more

I have never had a mechanic say to me before that there is nothing wrong with my car. That just shows how trustworthy these guys are. I brought my Prius in to get a couple of things checked out and was so happy to find nothing wrong. This is a hidden gem of a place. read more

Recently my usually trusty 16 year old Ford wasn't running like it should....sometimes it started and sometime it didn't. I took it to Percy's where Jerry and Pat found the problem and repaired it quickly and at such a reasonable price. That didn't surprise me, though, because I have been taking my car there for oil changes, tires and repairs for years. I just think it is time that I give Jerry and Pat the deserved great review and thank them for their professional work. They run a service station a person can count on. read more

I've brought my '04 Passat in 3 times in the last 3 years for a broken hood pull tab, cracked exhaust pipe and brake replacement. I always bring my car back because I know Jerry is going to do an excellent job and for a better price than any dealership. For the exhaust pipe, they actually repaired the pipe instead of paying for a brand new part, something that would almost never happen at a dealership. read more
