They are selling cars out of their lot and when you want to inquire about them, you need to jump through hoops to get in touch with an unknown person (not at the shop) to get any info on these vehicles. Once you do, after a long hula hoop marathon, following the directions per that faceless person to meet, there is no response nor follow up at all after. How do you know you have an honest shop? When they, like a doctor, tell you that you have a terminal hospice patient and not something they can cure. I have never had a more honest shop. The news I got was terrible-tied with serious sentimental value-the answer I got was honest. I had to convince them to do the work to make it safe to drive-knowing there was no cure. Then they do it in record time, charge me less than others would or quoted and were nice as could be. They explained the in detail what they could and could not cure, advised that I not invest and after significant pressure offered a middle path. They stayed opened late to accommodate, did amazing work and did it well. I love this shop. You will too. read more

Drove in out of town out of state with a grinding noise in the rear of my canyon, put on the rack, Sterling showed me the problem- bad rear axle, gave me the options and worst news and best news, showed where it was occurring, i said go fix it, Andrew was excellent as a service advisor, Sterling's. super power is rebuilding a rear axle in 6 hrs, i could have been really hosed but shop is extremely fair and responsible, rear axle was completely repaired with just needing parts and 2 new shocks which were broken and original shocks. DiMaggio's service center replaced all of our bearings in our travel trailer. They installed all four inner bearings with the wrong size. After 200 miles our wheels were about ready to fall off and all the bearings were destroyed. This was pure negligence by DiMaggio's service center. I contacted the owner and he refuses to take any responsibility and threatened to not refund us several times. Not apologetic at all about almost destroying our honeymoon. I have been going to DiMaggio's for 9 years. In that time I have had 4 different vehicles. Tom, Sterling and Lonnie are as good as it gets. If you have a Ford question ask for Sterling. He is an absolute expert when it comes to Ford especially pickups. Having an honest shop is very important. I don't question Tom at all. I recently purchased a 2001 Ford F250 as a project truck. I knew it needed ball joints and I don't have the tool to do the work. I took it to Sterling so he could look it over and make me a list of items. He must have spent hours on the truck making me a two page list of things that needed to be done. I had him replace the front ball joints, front brakes and the front drive shaft. I figured since he already had it apart why not do the work. I was amazed at how low the price was for the repair. Tom was extremely fair with me and didn't charge me for Sterling giving it the once over. I was so impressed I bought the shop lunch. Tom will always have a list of things wrong with your vehicle. He does this to help you out. Most times people don't fix items until they break and are stranded. Work with him. Let his team make the list so you know what is wrong. Ask what items need to be fixed right away and what items can wait. I have done this with my wifes 2004 Ford Focus. We have had repairs that we planned out and it took 6 months to complete based on the money we had available. Tom is as honest as a person can be. Most people get frustrated when it comes to vehicle repairs because they don't know anything about vehicles. I suggest to take it to DiMaggio's, let them make a list of what is wrong, then do a search on the internet to get educated on the repair. You will soon see that they have the correct approach and you will feel more confident about the repair. read more

My first car was a piece of crap. A 1988 Ford Festiva to be exact. But I was able to keep it running thanks to one of the best and most honest mechanics I have ever met. I often would drive in thinking something major was wrong with my car, and this guy would find some simple repair that he often didn't charge me for. He was thorough, speedy, and most importantly honest. I've lived in several cities since then. Each time I moved I made it a point to ask friends and coworkers for recommendations on where to take my car to get fixed. So many places will take what you think is a major repair and make it just that. They'll charge you $800 for what probably was a $100 repair. At least that's the fear, right? I couldn't be happier that I found that honest repair shop in Dimaggio's. I worked at a place helping manage their vehicle fleet, and they were all serviced at Dimaggio's. So I got to know the staff there and started bringing my own personal vehicle there too. In one conversation I had with Tom about a goofed up repair my wife had done at Jiffy Lube, he said "I pay my guys a lot more than them for a reason." And it shows. The mechanics are honest, thorough, and will fix your vehicle in a very timely manner. Just like with my first car, issues I thought were major problems turn out to be simple and cheap repairs. In one instance, they didn't charge me. I think it's funny that each time I drop my car off I have to double or triple park it because there is literally no space in their parking lot. Just for fun, check each time you're there: You'll notice a different Charter Communications vehicle there every time. They're good people and I trust my vehicles with them. I had a break line leak so I got a few quotes. Tom offered to take a quick look at my car for free and then gave me a repair quote. he was clear and helpful in his description of the problem and the cost of the repair. Unlike the many other places I went to, he stated the maximum cost would be 650. this was much lower than other estimates I had received. Not only did he honor that quote but he finished the repair the same day. He also noticed my front brake pads were low so he replaced those for no additional cost! All the employees I encountered were polite and respectful. They will be getting my future business for certain. read more

Great local business. It's much easier to book a time for service there than at the Zimbrick dealer, and I've always found them to be a lot more helpful, friendly, and affordable too. I've dealt with Lonny a number of times and always had positive experiences. Oftentimes I've been able to get work done within 24 hours, sometimes they very day I bring it in, and always for a good price. I've had them patch a hole in my tire, replace a headlight, do oil changes, and a number of other services. read more

A few years ago I was asking around work for a recommendation on a reliable repair shop in the Madison/Monona area. A guy I work with absolutely raved about DiMaggio's, so I decided to give them a try. It turned out to be the best auto shop recommendation I've ever received! I've taken multiple cars there over the last five years and have always found the people that work at DiMaggio's to be honest, friendly, efficient with repairs, and extremely knowledgeable. I recently had an issue with my car that I thought would be extremely expensive to fix. In fact, I was thinking I'd need to start looking for another vehicle. However, they identified the issue as a problem with a part that was still under warranty. They saved me an incredible amount of money...and even fixed/tweaked a couple of things that I didn't even know were wrong! Amazing! Went to Dimaggio's with what seemed to be a loose muffler making a clunking sound. Dimaggio's took care of the problem quickly and fixed what was a loose hanging clamp. I was amazed that they did this and said there would be no charge for the repair. I will certainly take my vehicle to Dimaggio's for all future service. read more

I went to get my tire fixed, they got me in & out which was perfect!! I needed my car looked at because it was bouncing all over the place! So, I bought my car in they took it for a spin and said I, My 2008 Blue mustang needed struts & shocks. So I bought my car in the next day to have my car repaired - after they got through working on my car, low & behold, My "Pearl Blue" mustang was " purring" down the highway once again!! Evidently! They know what thier doing & know how to work on my particular car and it truly shows. My mustang shines inside & out!! These guys are the real deal! At first I was hesitant to take my vehicle to them because I have found their prices are a little higher than average, but after now going to them for years (we even tried other shops) I truly believe you get what you pay for. Dimmagios came highly recommended for their customer service, and I couldn't agree more. It's the first place I've been to in Madison where I know that they are not screwing with us - we've taken our car in for issues and have had it returned with a $0 bill (no problems, or something super simple). On the other hand, we've had some hefty bills there as well - that's what we get for driving older cars! My husband and I had our car door just fall off once (yep that is still a fun memory LOL) and even though they don't do body work, they helped us wire the door shut and got us in touch with a guy who fixed it up for $100. SERIOUSLY. I just know time and time again that they'll be straight forward, and get the job done when they say they are going to. We also have started buying our vehicles here, too - not FROM Dimmagios, but they have a small lot outside the shop. We're both in amazing, reliable vehicles that we got for well under market value! My husband and I started bringing our only car to DiMaggio's over three years ago. My in-laws had been using them for years and always said they trusted them. Since we have only one car, a trustworthy auto shop is very important to us, so we went with DiMaggio's as well. I usually deal with Lonny since he picks up the phone most of the time and he is the one at the counter. He's always very friendly, professional and is very good at explaining what needs to be done to the car and how much it will cost. Most of the time Lonny is able to schedule an appointment the same day I call. Tom is the owner and is very professional and nice to deal with as well. After being with DiMaggio's for over three years I guess we are regulars - these guys recognize me and call me by name as soon as I walk into the shop. And it's considering that we mostly bring our car there for oil changes (we did, however, buy new tires from them, had a flat once and had some issue with oxygen not getting to the engine this past winter - all services were addressed promptly and professionally, and our car is running like new). These guys make customer service their priority. We lost one of our hub caps and they suggested they search junk yards for us to find one that would match. And I thought I'd have to spend $50 for a new one. Needless to say, we highly recommend DiMaggio's. They really know what they are doing and have a full spectrum of services. read more

I always take my car into DiMaggio's. They have wonderful, honest employees. I have an old piece of crap. I took my car in to get the breaks fixed. They needed to be completely redone along with several other issues. The clerk at DiMaggio 's asked if I really wanted to pay to fix it because he didn't want to charge me that much if I was just going to buy a new car. I will not take my car anywhere else. I have never met more honest people. I tell everyone to take their cars there. read more

My review is from an older experience in 2011 to 2012. I took my car there to get my tired repaired. The owner seems like an honest guy but I can't say as much for the other employees. Although my tire wasn't able to be fix permanently, they offered to plug it for a temporary fix until I could replace them. (I was due for tires within that year). I've heard Cat no longer works there, which is probably the best thing to happen to this local business. She's a crook. She was going to charge me over $30 for the tire plug. Luckily the owner interrupted her and I was charged I think around $13; much more reasonable. Over all my first experience was good. I went back a couple months later for an oil/filter change and to get new break pads & rotors. Of course Cat had bad news to tell me I needed this, that, this, that and this fixed and she really didn't feel comfortable letting me leave unless it was repaired. Being that I wanted to trust a local business and find a shop in Madison that I could be loyal to, I agreed. One thing I am extremely nervous about is getting any maintance done on my car because I'm a female, I've heard the stories about places NOT being honest, not really fixing anything but saying they did, not actually changing the oil, etc. They didn't have the parts to fix all the things Cat claims were leaking, broken or needed repair. So I paid for the brakes and oil change/filter. The total for that day cost me over $700. Now I've never had to do much repair on my cars, prior to this one I don't think I had the same car for more than two years. I told my friend who also replaced her brakes that month how much mine cost and she was just as surprised. Her's cost less than $300 (with no oil change) at a franchise shop. I still took my car back for the other maintance repairs.. although skeptical now. I "fixed" them and declined any further repairs that Cat recommended. Oddly enough after my visit my heat stopped working properly. I had my boyfriend call in the repair and meet me there. I refused to pay for it and they fixed it for "free". About 13 months later my rotors warped - just one month shy of the warranty. I still didn't want to take my car back there because I had lost trust in the place. I made my boyfriend call it in a again and take my car down with me, they fixed them for "free" (as they should if I'm paying over double what other places charge). My heat went out again at the start of the cold season. My car may be inching to the older side now as a 2004 with higher mileage near 142k but I would not classify it to be a POS, a beater, or on it's last leg. It was my Dad's brand new and he gave it to me for a sweet deal in 2007. I've loved that car since the day my Dad bought it, I've taken great care of it, I'm a good driver and until my experience at DiMaggio's my car hasn't needed any major maintance (nor did any other shop say anything was leaking, broken, needed repairs). I don't think my heat going out the second time is the fault of DiMaggio's, I think that one might be because my car is getting up there in. Although I hear Cat is gone from the business, I still can't bring myself to try this place again. Since then I've taken my car to get maintance at franchise shops and I haven't been disappointed. I spent $600 on tires elsehwere and haven't hesitated to tell anyone about my experience with DiMaggio's. I gave Dimaggio's 3 stars because I think the owner is most likely an honest man. read more

We've been bringing our cars here since moving to Monona a couple of years ago. My wife discovered them in a vehicle "emergency" that year, no idea who to trust, wandered in and was blown away by how quickly they responded, got her right in with a shop full of other cars. And, shame on me for not Yelping about them sooner. Alas, this last week, we had an oil change there prior to a road trip. And on said trip noticed some oil under the car after stopping, just a wee bit, but we also noticed an issue with the front CV joint, a repair these guys did last year. When I called them about both, they said take the car in somewhere and make sure it's safe to drive. We did this, and the other mechanic noticed the drip pan was loose, and he said it could have been age, could have been related to the oil change, hard to tell. I reported this, and the CV leak, DiMaggios said bring it in right away when we got back. Dropped it the night we returned, the next morning they called to say they replaced the drip pan and all clips, replaced the front axle and CV boot free of charge because it was done recently and the owner felt that shouldn't have happened, AND they refunded me the money I had to pay the other mechanic. Oh, and they apologized. And I didn't ask for any of this, they just took care of it. I have never, ever had such amazing customer service and I'm almost 50! They bent over backwards to make this situation right, no arguments, no haggling, they are just that customer focused. Good luck getting this kind of service at a chain. No reason to go anywhere else, we found our neighborhood mechanic! read more

We have taken 2 cars there the last year 7 times. And 4 times we have come back from oil change and tire rotations with new problems: air conditioning not working, key component broken, electrical light issues, axel problem etc. The front man Lonnie was extremely rude and bullying last time I was there demanding that I get 4 new tires for $500 and he also said the CV joint was broken which he said would cost $450, we took it somewhere else and it was a broken axel which was $250 and the man said to wait on tires till fall. If you are from out of state and don't know them personally I would avoid Dimaggio's like the plague. read more
