The owner (Cynthia) of this establishment is incredibly rude to her staff and mistreats them. Yesterday I witnessed her yelling at a barista when the restaurant was incredibly busy after the winter carnival. Other customers were saying that they were sorry for the barista too. Customers shouldn't have to console staff because the owner mistreats them. I've witnessed this multiple times, so I see that it is the owner being unreasonable and irrational. I won't be bringing my business here anymore until Cynthia cools down and learns that places of business are more successful when staff are happy and enjoy their places of work. No wonder there is so much turnover. I know there aren't many eateries in Hartford, but we shouldn't be supporting an establishment like this in our city. read more

Food is usually very good. Service is almost always poor. Very slow. Been going here regularly for almost three years. So this review is based on many visits. Cozy little coffee house that serves up gourmet style breakfast and lunches. The Mayan mocha is my personal favorite. You can find things such as quiches, wraps, stuffed French toast, and so many other unusually good things. We were just driving through town and at best were expecting a sandwich place to grab a bite for lunch. Oh boy were we surprised with the quality of our meal when we settled on Perc Place. The decor is cute and welcoming, and the staff is very friendly, I noticed one waitress talk with some locals at a table for at least 10 minutes. The food was delicious and even adventurous for what we expected in the middle of rural Wisconsin. I was pleasantly surprised at the relatively exotic Jerk Chicken Sandwich, which had ingredients such as melted mozzarella, pineapple, and their jerk mayonnaise sauce. The snickers cheesecake for dessert was rich and sweet, and all this from a coffee shop. If you're in the area, don't be fooled by Hartford's small town rural feel or Perc's coffee shop name and appearance, this place serves meals as good as any for miles around. read more

I'm amending my earlier review which I'll leave below. We were going to a show at the Schauer Arts Center and figured we'd try dinner here. I'm glad we did. Complete different experience from our first time around (see below). Wine in a bottle is *very* reasonably priced (Not sure why the price of *one* glass is 1/2 the price of a bottle, it's almost like they are pushing to you get a bottle I guess). By the glass pricey, but by the bottle very reasonable. We started with the Spinach and Artichoke dip. The bread was *very* strong garlic, but excellent with the dip. The dip wasn't piping hot, my only complaint. Wife had Fish Tacos. Outstanding. Great flavor and the black beans which came as a side were simply fantastic. And even the corn tortillas had a different (but good) flavor. Very good. I had one of the specials which was a roast beef panini. Also outstanding with the house chips. Both were served piping hot and the service was excellent as well. Much different experience than the last breakfast. My only complain was the dip, otherwise, great place. We will go back. The homemade biscuit was outstanding. The gravy had a lot of sausage in it and good flavor, but was a bit dry. It might have been ok, but both both the poached eggs were overcooked. Yoke wasn't the least bit runny in either egg, which would have make the somewhat dry gravy AOK. And it wasn't that hot. It's like both our dishes had been sitting for 10 minutes before getting served. Had a lemon poppy seed muffin instead of fruit. It was good, but again.. execution. The top was kind of soggy. Not crisp like a muffin should be. Wife had the almond brioche french toast. Hers was lukewarm at best. And pretty tough. It could have been good, but the execution was just lacking. Service - Meh... part of the problem I think with the lukewarm food. We had to wait quite a while to get our check at the end. The waitress seemed pretty distracted the whole time. Coffee was excellent. I might go back, I'm thinking this could be a 4 star place at least if we had a different server or went on a different day. I'll likely give it one more try. Perc Place is my absolute favorite place for a much needed pick me up. The atmosphere is amazing, the staff is incredibly friendly, and the drinks are delicious (we haven't really ordered much beyond that! Well... Except for cookies... I'm rating this 5 stars for several reasons. One, because their food is excellent, I love their pepper bacon. I'm not all that into many different coffee drinks, but I love a good cup of old fashioned strong black coffee, and in serving Alterra they give me that for sure. Their service is always excellent. I, for one, am glad they don't have wireless access. As someone who is only able to visit them on the weekends, I'd hate for their already busy cafe to be clogged up with people who are only there to sip on a coffee while checking their twitter accounts. As far as I'm concerned, keep your laptops at home and get a smart phone or tablet with 3g if you're that worried about being online constantly. read more

It's a very cute cafe with delicious sandwiches and the smoothies are great. It seemed like there were too many workers that had nothing to do, so they were standing around and one was literally walking by tables over and over asking if we were done and could take anything... Just a coffee shop serving normal food. Our party of six waited a while for a clean table. Then had very slow service from the start. I enjoy have coffee refills offered, but here we were begging. For the price I think all portions were tiny. Turkey club was just average. Rueben sandwich was a small portion with a few of the homemade chips.The use of large heavy plates disguise the small portions. The Quiche was a tiny flat pie shaped piece of unrecognizable ingredients lacking any quality. Two orders of mozzarella appetizers were very disappointing. The strawberry rhubarb french toast was the highlight of the entire table. Two buckets of french onion soup was average at best. They could try a little harder. We left hungry and in search of food. The employees are pretty rude however one was very rude to another employee who seemed to be new and overwhelmed by a busy Sunday morning. Atmosphere here is very charming, but that is all I can say nice about it. I stopped in after a long day in the field (still wearing my construction vest) got a table really quickly and was given a menu and some water. I thought the menu looked great but was a little disappointed at the high prices. I think $10 for a ham and cheese sandwich is a little steep. I noticed the Italian and French sodas and quickly decided on what I would be having. I was very hungry and could not wait to get something good to eat. Unfortunately that did not happen. I sat and sat and sat and no one ever came back to my table. Other customers came in, were greeted, seated and served while I sat and sat. I even pushed my menu out to the farthest edge of the table before falling off hoping to attract attention that I hadn't ordered YET. Nothing. I tried making eye contact with the waitresses making small talk with customers, nothing. I just sat there and got nothing. I see this also happened to another woman that came in here alone. Bigger is not always better. When I first heard about Perc Place 8 years ago, it was advertised as a coffee shop. Decent coffee shops are hard to come by in a rural small town region of Wisconsin such as this, but it surpassed every expectation. It was a legitimate coffee house... a small but comfortable place with a relaxing lounge-like atmosphere that welcomed you to not just come, but to stay. Coffee and other assorted drink and food selections were diverse, reasonably priced, and were high quality. Staff were good workers and friendly; even became great friends with some once I became a regular. Unfortunately, the owner decided quantity over quality was the way to go. A full renovation and update overhaul took place, dismantling the coffee house aspects and turned it into a full-on restaurant. The menu wasn't "expanded", just formatted for, you guessed it, a restaurant. Mind you, The Mineshaft, arguably the best and most popular restaurant/bar (and about 4x larger in size) in all the county is right across the street. I'm not sure what kind of business model the owner was going for when she decided she could compete with a business that size, which also has the alure of night life with kareokee and a $1 million game room... it's pretty rough competition at all times of the day. Perc place as a coffee house would at least have the appeal of variety and add diversity to food options and business on a busy city street like Main St. of Hartford, WI. Now, it's just another restaurant. And it's disappointing. read more
