Here's a polished Yelp-style version that keeps your voice and observations:…read more I was told Char Broil on Monroe Avenue was one of the more affordable breakfast spots in town compared with places like Steve's Diner, so I decided to give it a try. I ordered a make your own omelet with sausage, cheddar, and mushrooms, and at just $9.85 for a three-topping omelet, it felt like a great value. The omelet itself was tasty and well-executed. Nothing revolutionary, but it's hard to complain when the quality and price line up this well. My friend ordered the Char Broil Special, which came with a double stack of pancakes and eggs over medium. The eggs were a little runnier than expected for over medium, but fortunately my pumpernickel toast came to the rescue and soaked up the yolk perfectly. The real standout of the meal was the grilled cinnamon roll we shared at the start. It had a nice crunch on the outside, just the right amount of sweetness, and was perfect for sharing. The corned beef hash was probably the weakest part of the meal. It was a bit greasier than I would have liked, though the flavor itself was still quite good. Overall, breakfast for two, including a coffee and an iced tea, came to about $41. Believe it or not, that's more affordable than many diners these days. Solid food, fair prices, and a few highlights that will definitely bring me back.

The menu only offered the fish fry dinner but my waitress said I could get one. Great! The fish was piping hot & a nice crispy crust. It hung over the ends of the roll. The roll spoiled the sandwich. It's too soft & mushy. A nice piece of freshly fried fish like that deserved a quality bun or roll. I think something like a simple ciabatta roll would be a better vehicle to deliver a great fish sandwich that would hold up. I ordered a side of Cole slaw in place of french fries. It was decent - nothing to write home about.

My son was the last to arrive, but Nicole (& other servers) made sure my sister and I were content while waiting. We had coffee and tea and then we all ordered. I had the Sloppy Frittata which was a take on a Garbage Plate and it was amazing- plenty for two days. My son ordered the omelette with kielbasa and Swiss and my sister the English muffins with egg, spinach, artichoke and Hollandaise Sauce. Anyway.... you know I overshare. Furthermore, I've tried a few of the restaurants up here but I had a GREAT experience at the Great American Diner and was inspired to leave a review!! My lovely boyfriend suggested we try this place out. He said it used to be Wimpy's and it was new to him as well. Turns out that was a great decision. Walking in, all of the staff had a great attitude- everyone was in a good mood. We were seated quickly in one of the cozy booths, despite it being pretty busy. This place reminds me of the diners I used to enjoy back home. Assorted jams on the table and condiments for our use, very convenient! For seating, there is also a bar and regular tables. There are TVs that were playing game shows. The menu is quite expansive, you can get all sorts of breakfast items (omlettes, pancakes, waffles, french toast, wraps/sandwiches, platters) as well as plenty of lunch options (sandwiches, burgers, wraps, plates like roast turkey, country fried steak, garbage plates). There are even gluten-free and vegan options. I saw gluten free bread and vegan / gluten free pancakes. I decided on something simple.. a chicken salad sandwich on a hard roll with lettuce and onion. I got tater tots and mac salad with it. The bread was soft, topped with a hearty portion of the chicken salad. My tots were so crispy and delicious, and the mac salad was delightful!! Not many places get the mac salad right but I really enjoyed it! My boo got a breakfast garbage plates.. mind blown lolz!! It had home fried, sausage links, over easy eggs, cheese, and of course topped with meat sauce. You can decide if you want sausage or bacon, how you want your eggs cooked, and what kind of toast you want (bagel, biscuit, english muffin, wheat or white toast). He pretty much cleared his plate. He really liked it. I definitely want to come back here and try their other items, maybe some of their breakfast options this time. Oh, and their milkshakes... gahhh I really wanted one but I had to go into work and was worried I would have a tummy ache lol. It would have to be a day I'm willing to risk it (yes I'm lactose intolerant but sometimes it's worth it). Anyway... we will be back !!
