If we are able to write bad reviews when things go wrong, then it is only fair to update it with a good one when things go right. I took a break from coming into Pepe's after the service that I had in the past. What was once my favorite place to go to in the mornings turned into somewhere I felt really uncomfortable going to. Even though I could speak a good amount of Spanish, I felt ridiculed whenever I went in speaking both english or spanish. Within the past year, there has been a younger girl working there (who I heard was the daughter) and she has been kicking total butt. She is bilingual and the moment you walk in, she is there greeting you and ready to take your order. Not only is she really nice, but she is also fast because she gets people in and out pretty quick. One of the biggest complaints that Pepe's had in the past was the attitude problem from some of the older women who worked there. Ever since this girl has taken over the front, she has treated everyone who walks in that door with respect. I could tell at the beginning, she was a little nervous because she would mess up on orders or would get confused on which order was which. That being said, I think she has it down now and having her there will really help Pepe's business. I came in this morning and the entire experience went really smooth. I finally left happy and the food was great. If you are reading this and stopped going due to the bad service, then give them another try when she is there. So this happened a while back, and I debated posting this considering they are a small business; however I can't help and think this could've happened to someone else. Just to preface I've been going here, and my family has been ordering Pan Dulce from here for years. However once I got sick from here I haven't been here since. I ordered a Chorizo con Huevos burrito from here. It was delicious, but as soon as I got home a few hours later I got sick. For about 2 weeks and some days I was bedridden and had excruciating stomach pains. Eventually, I had to get my stool sampled at my urgent care. Unfortunately the results came out that most likely someone didn't wash their hands or they didn't cook the chorizo. My test didn't show any major diseases, but I will always know something wasn't sanitary there! I will never go back to this Panderia, and I will continue to tell others not to buy from here. read more

Place went down hill since these new people came in very slow service there was only one customer in line they took 20 minutes for two tacos . Also they lady in front of me ordered an item and the counter lady forgot to add it to her order so she got charged another. 75 for fee of Atm . Horrible service. I've been there once before and the same rude woman was there. I don't care if if it's a mom and pop hole in the wall, you should treat every customer in such a way that they return. She is so rude. The last time I went there was a fly in the bread shelf. She didn't even seem apologetic/embarrassed. She just opened the cabinet to let it out. I was so grossed out. That fly could've landed on all the bread. Ugh. I love my local panaderia!! Our office was treated with their delicious breakfast burritos! We get the chorizo and eggs with beans! It is to die for! Loaded up with cheese!! To be fair every place deserves a second chance right? In this case, visited Pepe's panaderia after the shutdowns at this point probably 5 times as of today. Walking in, I noticed they had a lunch menu on TVs that was very nice it made their Panaderia look legit. Decided to try their menu items and they did not disappoint, it was very delicious and not pricy; I recommend trying the Asada meat! Like I said the conchas and every other bread are always fresh and so good! I like to go in the mornings because that's when you get them still warm from the oven. What influenced me to update this review was the employee who works as the cashier and I previously complained that she was not professional by not greeting customers, not saying thank you, and always looking mad. Best Pan Dulce in Riverside! My review score is mainly on the sweet bread. They sell other food, but I have not tried it, other than the tamales; which are delicious. I discovered this Panaderia back in 2006 and continues to be my #1 choice for sweet bread. It is now a family tradition to stop by on Saturday mornings or Sundays after church to get sweet bread and some good tamales at Pepe's. The bread is fresh and very soft. No over night old bread. They bake it every morning. I believe they are only open half day or till like 5pm Sometimes they have Atole. It is delicious. 2 years ago, I ordered a cake, thinking about how good and soft the sweet bread is, but to my disappointment, the cake was very dry. I don't recommend them for cake. I'll stick to the pan dulce at this place. The lady at the front never smiles or greets people, but I think that is just her personality. It doesn't bother me, I'm used to her. Only giving them a star for Customer Service. They were very rude this morning when I went in to buy masa to make Christmas Tamales. I was told they had run out but they were still selling some to people who "supposedly" had pre-ordered. In the spirit of Christmas I asked if she could tell me if she knew where I could find some this early in the morning. She named a couple of the chain super markets that make terrible masa and I told her that. She answered "Do you think I'm really going to tell you another good place to buy masa besides us?" Well, so much for Christmas Spirit! This is the kind of sweet bread you bring in when you're trying to impress people. If you go early in the mornings the bread is right out of the oven. They carry a vast selection of sweet breads and they also make food which is delicious as well dried Chiles, hot chocolate, Masa, and drinks are also sold at the store. The business specialize in making cakes for occasions. There are no restrooms located inside of the facility and the parking is a little tight. My grandmother and I would come here and have a few pieces of bread. While we would do our laundry next door when I was a child and the recipe has stayed exactly the same today. read more

There are days I really wish I either lived close to Mexican Bakery, or could make bread as amazing as this Panaderia. Their business bakes some beautiful things: who can deny the deliciousness of a freshly baked Pan Dulce? The variety is also vast - and I believe you can pre-order items if you call ahead. PS. My all time favorite: The Pumpkin Empanada (they don't keep them with the others, so you have to ask for them at the counter). Sin embargo: This place is a bit of a hole in the wall - minus the charm. Their bakery would benefit from a face-lift. . . I really don't understand why so many Mexican-Bakeries think it's OK to not bother with interior decor? Some modern Cafe Furniture would surely cheer the place up. Their current conditions are a little dim, bland and rather melancholic....maybe that's why the staff seems so miserable. It's one of those miracle hole in the wall places that everyone in the neighborhood goes to. It's funny how people can actually recognize the unmarked cardboard boxes the bread comes in. Even family I have in other states have come to recognize the plain boxes containing the famous (well, in my family anyway) bread my aunt or cousins take back with them after visiting here. Despite the simplicity of the container, there's nothing short of top notch and amazing-ness inside. STAFF: The staff is friendly and once you start being a regular customer, you can practically be considered part of the Pepe's family. As long as there isn't a line behind you, often they take time to get to know you and chat for a bit as they box away your bread. WAIT TIME: Considering how many people make the pilgrimage here and how long the lines can be, the cashiers get everyone in and out in a fairly reasonable time. (Disclaimer: Christmas lines are the exception! Even though they usually have three to four people working furiously up front and like 10 staff members in the back constantly replenishing the bread and masa and tamales, the demand is so high the line can go out the door! But smart people know it's well worth it!!) PRICE: .50 cents for literally the best conchas (the bread with the shell pattern on top in pink, white, or chocolate) I've ever had is practically nothing! The burritos are amazing and deserving of their price (like $3, I think, depending on what you get in it, of course). In my MANY trips here I've heard one or two people complain how expensive they are, (one of my main reasons for writing this review) and I say to those people: where exactly are you comparing them too? And in this fictional bakery, do all the conchas and empanadas and burritos and tortas and tacos even come close to matching the quality of food you get from Pepe's for less? Ordered a large order of their breads for our family for Easter gathering. When I arrived, I found out that the order was never even written down or made. This is not the first time this has happened however. I've been coming here since I was a little girl. There Mexican bread is beyond good and fresh and so soft. I tasted their carnitas and omg bomb. They have tamales also bomb. They make menudo on weekends. Prices are great. I would highly recommend them...
