I visited this location on March 15 to replace four tires on my work vehicle. I was told the job would take about 2 hours, but it ended up taking 3.5 hours. After that, they told me that two of the tires they installed were the wrong size and asked me to come back within three days to have them replaced. At that point, I was already frustrated with the wasted time and the need to return. I came back on Tuesday as instructed. The employee who helped me seemed unsure and told me it would take about an hour to confirm if they could fix the issue. After waiting 2 hours, I finally got my vehicle back. As soon as I got on the road, the car started shaking badly, so I had to return again. They rebalanced the wheels, which took another hour. By then, I had already spent around 6-8 hours dealing with this. A week later, I discovered that all four tires were losing air. On top of that, the TPMS system was not programmed correctly, and my dashboard showed incorrect tire positions. I tried going to other Pep Boys locations, but every time I was told the minimum wait time was 2 hours. Given how much time I had already lost, I couldn't afford to keep missing work. I called the company directly, explained the situation, and they scheduled me at a location near my home. I showed up at 8 AM for my appointment, only to be told the technician wouldn't be available for another 2 hours. At that point, I gave up and went to another tire shop, where they helped me immediately. Overall, I will go anywhere else for tire service but Pep Boys. I have never experienced such poor service from a chain. The staff were unprofessional, and their ability to fix their own mistakes was extremely disappointing. read more

I purchased what I was led to believe by Pep Boys were 4 NEW tires. I found out yesterday from a reputable tire shop that they put tires manufactured in 2017 on my car! Now I will need to buy 4 new tires and spend $1000 because of Pep Boys dishonesty. I called and asked to speak to a manager who was not at all helpful and brushed me off. This company seems designed to squeeze as much money as possible out of its customers. I brought my car in with an A/C issue. They charged me $671.04 for diagnostics and a recharge, then told me the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced for another $1,247.31. They couldn't give me any clear explanation of what exactly had failed, why the compressor supposedly wasn't working, or what test results led them to that conclusion. Once I realized how unprofessional the diagnosis was, I took the car to the dealership. The dealer found and fixed the actual problem in about 30 minutes for $200. Their conclusion was that the compressor was in excellent condition, did not need to be replaced, and replacing it would not have solved the problem. Based on my experience, Pep Boys is a rip-off. They charged me hundreds of dollars for a bad diagnosis and then tried to sell me an unnecessary repair. read more

Mixed Experience but Great Service from Anthony I came to Pep Boys for a quick Lyft inspection, which usually takes about ten minutes. I didn't realize an appointment was required, and when I first arrived an employee snapped at me about needing one. Not the warmest welcome, and it definitely caught me off guard. I went back to my car, scheduled an appointment online for 45 minutes later, and returned. This time, the experience was completely different. The woman at the front desk was kind, welcoming, and let me know the inspection would only take a few minutes. Anthony handled the actual inspection. He seemed quiet and introverted, but he was polite, efficient, and made the process smooth. The inspection was brief but thorough, and I appreciated his professionalism and kindness. Brought my car in today because I had a nail in my tire. The nail was dead center and absolutely repairable, but Pep Boys told me they "couldn't fix it" and immediately tried to sell me a brand-new tire instead. That didn't sit right with me. I took my car down the street to Firestone and didn't tell them anything Pep Boys had said because I wanted to see what they would say on their own. They patched the tire with zero issues. No upsell, no pressure, no nonsense. Just fixed what I asked them to fix. Afterward, I asked the guy at Firestone if there was any reason they would've been able to fix it if Pep Boys supposedly couldn't. He said no. The nail was in the center, it was perfectly fixable, and there was no reason it couldn't have been repaired. When I told him what Pep Boys told me, he was genuinely shocked and confirmed what I already knew. Pep Boys was shady and clearly trying to make a sale instead of being honest. If you don't want to be pushed into buying things you don't need, I don't recommend coming here. They are shady AF. read more

Go in on Monday just to get a headlight fixed. They said it would take 1-2 hours which was justifiable since I didn't make an appointment. I couldnt wait the time so I booked an appointment for Wednesday. I go in for my appointment just for the dude to tell me its going to take an hour for what should be a 10-15 minute easy fix. It ends up taking over 2 hours... They werent busy either, just deciding to help other people rather than helping someone who made an appointment for the easiest fix possible. Utterly ridiculous, I had to cancel my plans because these people decided to take 2+ hours for a fucking headlight. Shame on them, I was better off just not making an appointment if they're gonna help walk ins first anyways! Update: These scammers switched my bulbs and didn't even replace my missing headlight! I get home just to see my other headlight is mysteriously out. Wonder how that happened??? Same day I get it back my other one goes out. These people are absolute fucking jokes. They stayed after closing to help me! My oil pressure light came on while I was an hour and a half away from home and I popped in thirty minutes before closing to hopefully fix it in order to get my car home. They were so helpful and so willing to accommodate me. I got a complimentary car inspection and they found that my battery was on its last legs and I had no idea. They had the battery in stock and were able to install it all after they had closed for the night. Who knows, they could have saved my life. Highly recommend!! read more

I was at this location for a CAL/OSHA inspection, a Camry oil change & cabin filter change. The Manager, Gus Mendoza, was very friendly and helpful. I was pretty disappointed in Pep Boys in Thousand Oaks and I wouldn't recommend it to anybody. I brought my car in with squeak coming from my brakes. They sold me new rotors and when I drove away it was still squeaking. I was out $500 and learned my lesson. I took it to the dealer and they said the work Pep Boys did was terrible and pointless. I like Pep Boys. The reason is because when I buying tires, there website is easy to navigate. You can all the pricing info you need and make your plan before you make your appointment online. Simple one stop solution. Pep Boys also benefits from a huge Network of stores so they have enormous buying power which means if your patient, you can usually get a 4 for the cost of three deal. Also the discounts and options are easy to see on the site. My only complaint is, although you can make appointments on line for something simple like a tire rotation, I have been waiting over an hour. Did I mention I had an appointment. It just makes me laugh how fast they can change tires during a Nascar race and how dreadfully slow it is to rotate 4 tires. My text just came. The tires are rotated. I went in today just for an oil change. They came back with a $1,000 quote for new brakes and discs. I took my car next to America's Tire for a rotation and was able to inspect the brakes and discs while the wheels were off of the vehicle. The technician told me it wasn't necessary to replace any of the discs, that I could just replace the pads myself for around $200. And, when America's Tire removed the wheels, they found cross-threaded tire studs on both the front and rear tires on the same side of the vehicle. I theorize that Pep Boys pulled one front and one rear wheel off to check out the brakes, and then just used the impact driver to reinstall the bolts without performing the first few turns of the bolt BY HAND AS THEY SHOULD HAVE. This is one of the most basic things a mechanic should do when working on vehicles. America's Tire took care of me, sending me to Brake Masters at no charge to have the studs re-threaded, at no cost to me. America's Tire is AWESOME. I got a quote of $500 from Brake Masters to perform the same service that Pep Boys quoted $1,000. I'm guessing that mechanics quote repair prices of around $1,000 because it is a dollar amount that makes it more profitable to perform a service, and it's a price that people can usually pay, if they absolutely have to. I am not a regular Yelper, but I had to share this info to save others the hassle of dealing with poor service. To clarify--Pep Boys gets a poor review, but America's Tire is THE BEST. I have purchased tires there for 6 vehicles and have had a GREAT experience every time, in multiple cities and states. Brake Masters seem good too, although I've always serviced my own brakes. read more

Car was ready very quickly. They charged us $80.00 for this service. Including waste disposal. I called 4-5 other shops and they all quoted me $120.00 or more. My car battery died so I bought a new one at Pepboys. 2 years later, that battery died again. It was under warranty so I took it back to Pepboys to get it replaced. They require a battery test and each time (3 different times) I took it in, they said they couldnt replace it because the battery tested OK. So they sent me away and said I needed to drive the car more. So I took it home and did just that and it still died. This repeated over and over again until I was finally fed up and demanded a new battery! But it was like pulling teeth! Gus was so mean to me! He spoke to me like I was an idot (maybe because Im a woman?). I wasted so much time here. They gave me a new battery after complaining. AND THEN THE NEW BATTERY DIED TOO!!!! IM NEVER GOING HERE AGAIN! And I definitely don't trust them to work on my car ever again. read more

This was a day wrecker. We unfortunately ran over something this morning in my boyfriends truck and got a leak in the tire. We filled it with air and made it to Pep Boys. They were busy and said it was 'up' to a 2 hour wait. 3 hours and 47 minutes later it was done. That's the bad news. Good news is they were able to patch the tire and it was only $9.95. I have gone to just about every local tire shop in the past. When looking for a new set of tires I picked a set that was difficult to find. I gave Pep Boys a try based on my son's past experience. The manager Gus found my tires and gave me a great deal too. On top of that they were ready for me on my scheduled time and finished the job on time as well. Could not be happier with the service. This location has a very lovely and hard working staff. Michelle is super friendly and went out of her way to make sure my custom tires were properly installed in my car. When Carlos they thought there might be a delay they kindly paid for my uber back home. Their prices are fair for the area that they are in. My only complaint had nothing to do with the employees but the shop was under heavy construction to the point where it was hard to even hear the employees and the air was full of dust from the workers and there was no heat. But i blame that on the corporate level not on this shop specifically. From a consumer standpoint they should have closed the shop during renovations it was very unprofessional and i could not even imagine working in that environment. It is obvious whomever owns them is greedy and did not want to lose money but sacrificed customer experience. But it is what it is. read more
