On a Saturday afternoon, we had a situation at the tire store where they couldn't remove the lug nuts on the 4th of 4 tires that we purchased and said if they took the seized lug nuts off, they would not be able to repair the tires. The tire company recommended Break Masters in Camarillo. We were able to catch them early on Saturday afternoon, and they were able to make the repair swiftly and very affordably. During my visit last week to America's Tire, the technician pointed out that one of the wheel studs was cross-threaded, and asked my permission to break it to get the tire off (I gave it). I was then very surprised that America's Tire didn't have the ability to replace the wheel stud, but glad that they recommended that I go to Brake Masters to get the stud replaced. I called ahead, talked to Ben, and showed up early. They were able to replace the stud, and some worn lug nuts, very quickly. While waiting, I found a dollars-off coupon online, which they were very happy to accept. Altogether a pleasant experience. read more

My rear brakes started grinding on 5/3/23. My mechanic couldn't take me in on the next day, so I went over to Brake Masters in Thousand Oaks. The manager at Brake Masters told me that the rear brakes needed new pads and and a new rotor. I asked him if he could show me the rotor damage. He seemed surprised and irritated that I asked him. Reluctantly he shone his flash light on the brake assembly and said "It's there." I didn't see any damage, but knew that there was an issue so I approved the work. Less the two months later, I brought my car to get an oil change with my regular mechanic. He noticed the rear brake pads were new but that the new pads didn't fit properly and were not lubricated. My mechanic showed me the issue and provided detailed pictures. Even to a lay person, it was obvious that the Brake Master installation was not done correctly. I went back to Brake Masters and met with the same manager. I explained to him what my mechanic said, showed him my mechanics report, and asked him what he could do. He said people do brakes different ways and that there was no problem with his installation. I asked him if he could explain or show me why his "way" was adequate or better than what my mechanic suggested. He avoided answering the question and said again that people just do brakes differently. This went on for about a minute and the manager simply couldn't give me a straight answer. It was then clear to me that the manager was not professionally knowledgeable concerning brake repairs, so I left. I plan to have another repair show make the adjustments to the installation. read more

I went in without an appointment and they squeezed me in, put in an immediate order in for the parts they needed to do a brake pad and sensor replacement. We came here several months ago to get new brakes and have the rotor ground on my 2018 Audi a3. A short time after we noticed the car started making weird squeaking noises. We didn't relate it was the brakes and suspected others things. After getting an oil change and inspection at the dealer, they found no other reason for the noise. We also noticed every time we braked while tuning the wheel a certain way, the brakes squeaked. Fast forward to this weekend, we decided we needed the brake pads and rotors replaced. Saturday we called brake masters for a new quote for brakes and rotor replacement. It was really high. My fiancé decided to just do it himself. Not only did we realize how much Brake Masters was over charging, after completion which took very little time, mind you, we don't have all the fancy professional equipment this place has, we realized ALLLLL the squeaks are gone. Turns out the calper on the driver side was put on crooked the pads didn't even wear evenly, front of driver side had worn down to metal, passenger side barely anything. read more

Got an alignment and when i got the car back they broke a small trim piece, and the car didn't even drive straight. I brought it up to the guy in the front and asked him why is the alignment off on the sheet and he literally told me that they align all the cars to pull left to compensate for driving on the highway. Then said if iI was unhappy they would redo it. Why i would want my car aligned by people that couldn't do their job properly. Never have I ever received the most BS answer. I came in here on a Saturday to get my car aligned after having four new tires put on it it took him a couple hours and I got my car back and paid about 130 bucks and my car. Still pulling to the left. Now I got to go back there in a week when I have time off work to deal with this all over again because nobody here knows what they're doing. You had one job aligned the car and make it drive straight and they didn't do that. I don't care if they go back in there and they do it right this time now I have to waste half of Saturday dealing with this don't take your car here go somewhere else. This place is awful and they don't take peoples lives into consideration. Also, I was recommended to come here by America's tires, so don't waste your time there either. read more

Originally I asked for a four wheel alignment and the staff told me for my vehicle that only two wheels was needed, they didn't try and oversell me at all. I asked for them to inspect the brake pads during alignment and they didn't try and up sell me on new brakes or other services either. My brakes were screeching and came here for a fix. They found the rotors were warped and the pads were worn. Brake Masters replaced both front rotors and pads. Immediately after I drove it out the lot, brakes were screeching louder and grinding. Here is what other mechanics found: - Grinding was caused because tires were grinding against the disk shield. During Brake Masters' installation, the new guy accidentally bent the disk shield causing it to make contact with the tire. - My car model had a TSB -- this is when an automaker issues a technical service bulletin (TSB) when it becomes aware of common problems with a particular make and model. My car needed to use OEM pads, not the aftermarket Centric pads Brake Masters recommended. - This is the most surprising find. THEY DIDN'T LUBE THE BRAKE PADS WHEN INSTALLING THEM!! I thought to myself: "How can I go wrong? They specialize in brakes. It's in the name." This is not the type of service you'd expect from someone that calls themselves 'Brake Masters.' read more

America's Tire (whom I love) accidently broke a wheel lug when rotating my tires. They referred me here for the repair, at their expense. During that repair, I was advised my front pads were nearly shot but the rear pads were fine. I thought, "here comes the upsell," but realized I had never serviced the brake pads before (I was at 52K miles) and the OEM pads were present. I authorized the work and all is well. I was happy with the service I received and will come back when it's time for rear pads. read more

Keith (district store manager): 100 stars out of 5 stars. Store manager guy: Negative stars and in debt. I went to get my steering realigned and after sinking in 1.5k into the car, according to the store manager's suggestions, I got it realigned. ..or so I thought.. till I drove it. Did I mention that this was their 5th attempt at realigning my car? Yeah, so, as you can imagine, I was furious. I made sure to not call back immediately because I would have cussed out the manager and I would have regretted it. I called back 2 or so weeks later when I was calm, told him that his suggestions/diagnosis did not solve the problem and neither did their steering alignment. The manager then proceeded to tell me that the company didn't recommend anything or diagnose anything and that I was confused. Then I read him my receipts which in bold declare "recommendations" and diagnosis. That shut him up quick and he had nothing to say, so he said after an extremely long, awkward pause that I can come in Monday at 11 am. This is where the hero comes in to save the day. Keith (the district store manager) met with me and fixed my car personally. My car drove straight and is still driving straight. Keith is amazing. The store manager at the thousand oaks store is rude, apparently incapable of doing his job, and a liar. After spending 1.5k on his recommendations to make the car drive straight, WHEN HE CAN'T EVEN DO HIS JOB TO CORRECT THE DAMN STEARING (!!!), makes me FURIOUS. After talking with Keith, the district store supervisor, and seeing him effortlessly communicate and execute on solving my car's problem, it became extremely clear that I was being talked down to, lied to, led on to believe this shop could do their job, and wasted much money and potentially scammed out of 1.5k on RECOMMENDED parts (that the manager initially said "we don't have records of/we didn't recommend you to get"). I'm so glad Keith was there to help me, and I can't wait to see this shop clean up their act, starting with the store manager. Keith is amazing and because of Keith I'm willing to come back to this shop for future alignments simply because I believe Keith's excellence will get this shop in order and on the right path. HIGHLY recommend! I went into a Shell gas station auto shop on Moorpark Blvd to get an oil change and was told I need to replace all my brakes. I just bought this car from a certified dealer. Anyway, thank GOODNESS I took my car here for a second opinion. They were great and quick to look at my car, which does not need new brakes. They told me that my front brakes were actually brand new! I had been told by Preferred Auto that I had only 1mm left on the rear brake shoes, and I should replace shoes & cylinders for $575.
