I made an appointment online. The person behind the counter told me he didn't really know what he was doing and really seemed incompetent. After he apologized repeatedly to the customer before me, I finally got a quote for brake system, it was extremely high for just front brakes. I was in the waiting room when he approached stating I would have to reschedule because they couldn't find anyone to deliver my parts. It took me 50 minutes to get there. A half hour to check-in. A total of 2 hours and 15 minutes for nothing. I'm never going back. read more

The kid said he would call when they came in, still haven't received a phone call and it's been 4 days. Not to mention there were little kids, maybe 2-3 running around the shop bay area. I called on Saturday and asked if they do inspections on Sundays. Yes we do! Great, thanks. I go online and book it for 10:30 (they open at 8). Get there only to be told they don't have anyone who can do the inspection. When I mention I called, I got told I asked if they did inspections, not if they could do one tomorrow. They could send me a reminder text at 730, but couldn't look at the appointment and call or text me to let me know they couldn't actually fulfill it. A friend of mine had her car towed to Pep Boys because it quit running and wouldn't start. Acted like it was overheating and shut itself off automatically. Kenton told her the cylinder head temperature sensor had gone bad and two spark plugs have cracked ceramic. Gave her an estimate to replace those parts w/4-hour job for a total of $843.18. Had those repairs made and picked up the car. It didn't drive right, so took it back 2 days later. The check engine light had come back on and it wasn't starting consistently. After having her car for another 2 days, Kenton told her there was nothing wrong with it and to come pick it up. He said the codes for the check engine light were "invalid" and they cleared them. He said it started 12 times with no problems. The following day her car died. She had it towed back to Pep Boys. They told her that the head gasket needed replaced for a total of $3764.58. When she questioned them about why they would charge her when they didn't fix the problem to begin with, they just brushed her off. Come to find out, they never test drove the vehicle after making the initial repairs because the mileage in was the same as the mileage out. In addition, the vehicle had a recall for the engine for the exact same reason it was brought in to begin with but didn't communicate that or diagnose accordingly. When she asked Kenton this, his response was "they always put the same mileage in/out as the mileage when it leaves, so that's not proof that it wasn't test driven." They knew exactly what they were doing and found an opportunity to take advantage of a nice woman. read more

They were super helpful and understanding when I had to reschedule because I needed a tow! Switched out my battery in less than 30 minutes and only cost me about $200 for the battery and to put in! Me and both my roommates have had our cars worked on here and only have great things to say after every visit! read more

11-01-21 So there is apparently a remodel/ change going on with this store; can't hold that against them, but the place looks abandoned/deserted when you walk in; I guarantee you will think you have entered the wrong door. Someone was at the makeshift "desk" when I walked in, and promptly wheeled around and sped away without even acknowledging me (FYI to those of you who are "experience challenged"......... this is not a good sign.) After standing there alone for way too long, another employee popped through the door from the repair bays and greeted me. He seemed pleasant and willing to help. Since I had checked online, I knew what their stock showed for auto batteries, I also knew they had a block of open appointments, and the young man indicated they had a single one (although online, the stock showed several different ones), and to his credit, he went back to double check that one was available. Unfortunately the cost to purchase the battery, exchange the old one, and install the new one was going to be a full hundred dollars more than the discount store for a battery in the same price range, and with the same warranty period. The discount store's charge to install the battery was zero dollars. Pep Boys was advertised as a very reasonable 15 bucks. Heck, I expected to pay more- I went there instead of WM. But a 60% difference is well beyond my "not worth going somewhere else" threshold. Was I supposed to negotiate? Clip a coupon? Mention the internet code? Not sure...... But I am now sure of where I should go when I want a car battery. read more

I can not believe this Pep Boys! The worse one ever! I do feel sorry for "Derrick", who was there all by himself and was definitely stressed out to the max! We stood in front of the counter waiting for him while he helped 4 other people. We walked out and he came out to the parking lot berate us!! He said he didn't know if we had ever worked before, but we should understand! Well, wrong thing to say to a couple that have worked ourselves to almost death just to be able to retire. Very BAD choice of words! Please PEP BOYS, get this guy some help and train your employees better. I really don't blame it all on Derrick, this is up to Pep Boys to run their store better! My fiance and I drove up from Los Fresnos, TX to Chicago for my daughters bootcamp ceremony in Great Lakes, Illinois. We left Chicago early Saturday morning and by the time we were outside Springfield, MO we noticed that there appeared to be an issue with one of our tires. We stopped at this Pep Boys at around 600/615 (They close at 8PM) on Saturday January 26, 2019. My fiance got down to ask if they would check out our tire, it sounded like it might have a ball. They said no problem and asked us to park the car and give him a few minutes while he wrapped up with the other vehicle he was working on. I parked the car, got down and saw what appeared to be a manager/customer service rep come out and ask how could he help me. I explained to him that we were driving up from South Texas, coming from Chicago and trying to get to the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. I explained to him the issue we had with the tire, the sound it was making and what it was doing. His response was, sorry can't help you, we're about to close. My fiance stated that the website reads that the store closes at 8PM. He said sorry can't help you but go to Firestone and gave us directions to the store. Needless to say, we spent over $500 on tires at Firestone and they stayed late to help us get back on the road. read more

Got an oil change and tire rotation. They did not rotate my tires. Apparently taking off the center caps to get better access to the lug nuts and to take the tires off would be too much work. There are also blatant scuffs on on the tire rims where someone tried to take an impact to the lug nuts without taking the center cap off first. Lack of attention to details and/or caring is what it seems like. Will not be back to Pep Boys since I could have received the same service without a coupon across the street at Valvoline for the same price and been done in 20 minutes. I feel like there's a reason for all of these negative reviews over the last couple of years on here. Stay away. read more

Made an appointment for my car to be worked on & told it would be completed that day. I finally received my car four (4) days later & several lies later. I was told on two different days it would be ready in an hour, upon arriving I was informed it was not ready. They would apologized and stated they would give me a discount for my inconvenience, which was also a lie. The brakes were not bleed correctly and I had to do it myself. DO NOT TRUST WHAT THEY SAY. NEVER AGAIN. So recently my car has been misfiring and had a bad sensor so I had replaced one of my sensors on my car by myself and the code came right back up about 20miles later so I didn't want to replace it again myself and put to mind the sensor I got was an oem sensor for about 85$ after tax. So I took my car here to pep boys and after a day or so I get a call saying that they've got my car done and they told me that they had replaced the same sensor I replaced and the other sensor as well and the codes are STILL THERE and my engine is still misfiring and starting real crappy and when I asked how it starts all they said was "it starts right up after about 5 cranks" 8 seconds later of cranking it over it finally turns on and I mean it drives but it definitely isn't how it used to be the quality of work that was done was very shitty and they didn't even diagnose what's really going on and charged me 251 PER SENSOR and another nearly 500 of Labor on top for a total of 975$. I SPENT 975$ FOR THEM TO NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. And all they could do for me was take off the diagnostic labor cost and said "it's either this or that or this and we can't do any of those things here unfortunately". THEN MAYBE GIVE ME SOMWHERE THAT CAN? I mean worker was nice and everyone was great it's just that they are bullshit and lowkey terrible mechanics. Worst service I've ever experienced, and that's saying a lot considering the amount of mechanic work I've had done on my 97 GMC Sonoma. I took my truck in to have a simple oil change and an antifreeze flush to prepare for winter and I ended up with a $179.52 bill from Pep Boys and a non working truck. They charged $70.19 for the oil change, $64.99 for the antifreeze flush, and $27.98 for wiper blades. The truck would not start when I went to leave and they said there was a problem with the alternator or the battery. The battery had been replaced last year and the alternator was replaced this July. Of course, they only wanted $291.77 to fix this problem. They jump started the truck in the parking lot and it broke down on the way home. I took the battery to O'Riley's (where I had bought it) and they checked it and said it was good and fully charged it. I popped it back into the truck and it worked so the next day I was going to get the alternator checked out. While I was driving the truck to have this checked, it again died on me and I had to get it towed again. I had a mechanic come out and take a look at it and he said whoever flushed the antifreeze had completely messed up. There was white residue all over the motor and on the alternator, so whoever had done the flush out had actually gotten the antifreeze all over the engine and it caused the alternator to mess up. I think it's great how they charged $180 for the services I did want, and then wanted to charge almost $300 more to fix an issue that they caused. This is the first review I have ever written because of the very poor and terrible service I have received and I plan to make sure as many people as possible know what an absolute nightmare Pep Boys put me through! I will never return to this place and would not recommend them to my worst enemy! I wish I could give them negative 5 stars! read more

We live in Anaheim at the moment, but we lived in Springfield for several years and are returning this year. I sent my wife to Pep Boys Battlefield Road in Springfield for a state inspection. This was the first and last time we went to Pep Boys, and the first and last time I sent my wife to get her own state inspection. When she drove home from her inspection she told me the car was acting funny, and showed me Pep Boys' recommendation for almost $1,500 in repairs. I was immediately suspicious, because I had driven her car recently and knew that nothing was wrong with it. I took her car for a short drive and it was acting funny. I got home and popped the hood to look at the engine, and sure enough, one of the spark plug wires was disconnected and dangling. I reconnected it and took the car out again, and it was running perfectly once again. The spark plug wires cannot come off on their own. This means that Pep Boys' inspector had pulled the wire off intentionally. I took her car and the estimate back to Pep Boys and asked them about it. Of course they denied even opening the hood, and I told them about the spark plug wire and showed them the estimate, and they denied everything. You can't trust Pep Boys. They tried to screw my wife, and they will try to screw you. read more

I had good initial service from the beginning. But I got new tires so I wouldn't have any issues on my long trip. I had HUGE issues on my trip! It took one hour longer than they said it would so I thought that they were just trying to thorough. After 6hours of driving (that's only half the distance of my trip) my tire sensor goes off. We stopped to put air in and the valve stem completely let ALL the air out of my tire! We were stranded! Was able to get help getting a doughnut put on, but I had to waste money on a hotel, waste more money on something I shouldn't have (that she tires) and waste 12 hours of what was already a short time frame to see my family. I am beyond ticked and plan on getting reimbursed for the money and time I had to take out of my trip because they couldn't do it right the first time. read more

They never did the diagnostic, he just repeatedly lied to buy more time. Horrible business. Keegan openly admits they only have one mechanic on duty, the rest are techs. I'm here again, this time getting a tire replaced after a flat. I'm very pleased with the service. I had somewhat of a tough order with my tire, and the guys (Ken and Mike) took care of it with a smile. Also, the tire I originally ordered and paid for turned out to be out of stock, so the guys gave me a better tire which was about $20 more for the same price, and didn't charge extra at all! I'm very pleased with my experience and think that both Ken and Mike here at Pep Boys should be rewarded for great customer service. read more

Yesterday morning (Sunday) my little brother's car had a flat tire. He went to the spare in his trunk... it was also flat. Aaak! We had to get him up and running before Monday morning so he could be back to school before his first class. We weren't able to make it into Springfield until around 4:30pm. We were concerned that we wouldn't find any places open or that they would all be too busy and wouldn't be able to fix his tire. (We only brought 1 because I only had room for 1 in my car). The guy at the counter was SUPER nice, took it in the bay to "take a look at it" and 10 minutes later he rolled it out, FIXED! I can't say enough nice things about this shop and the people that work here. I had an excellent experience and I intend to go to them with all of my automotive needs when I am in the Springfield area (it is about a 45 minute drive one way for me). read more

I have trusted, relied upon, felt dedication to, and referred Pep Boys for the past several years. The past two visits have eliminated all of that. The first of the two, I noted a complete change of staff, bit accepted that as "things change"; except that change resulted in being left 1quart low after an oil change. The second visit, for another oil change and request to look everything over carefully, as I am planning to make a 1K drive/back, resulted in oil overfill of 1.5 quarts. After draining off the excess myself, I had another surprise - dirty oil. So, what I got for around $85 was an overfill on top of my existing oil and old filter? Anyone else know the damage that can cause?! No More. Sorry boys, I should have stopped at strike one, definitely done with you after strike two. Not to mention it was twice the $ as last oil change. Good service = loyalty. Shoddy work and shady fees = have a nice time on your trip down. My references to PB will now be much more colorful and shared with great enthusiasm. read more

Coda at the service counter is really great with his customers, he WOW'd me. That doesn't happen often. I mean he will give you professional advice and doesn't try to sell you just to make money. My tires have flat spots and he told me that he would check alignment for me free of charge. Told me to get alignment done, at the dealer because my car needs special computer and theirs is on order. So he referred me to couple places and warned me for them not to try to sell me new shocks because my shocks are still good. Plus addition to that as I was sitting and waiting for my car....he went and bought a bag of gummy worms for one of the customers kids and another time I came there he asked me if I wanted snacks or anything to drink and he pays from his pocket. I have used this particular shop three times now. I take the vehicle there, I tell them what it is doing (or not doing), and then an appointment is set. There is always a service fee or inspection fee initially, but I've never paid it. They always waive any additional fees for me without me even asking. Never once have I had to take my car back once they've repaired it. Their work is solid. I took my Dodge to the dealer once to have it repaired and consequently had to take it back again and then to another repair shop after that. This shop might seemed overpriced, but it is worth the accuracy, customer service, same-day service. Plus, I was quoted $300 and by the time I actually paid, I drove off with a car driving like new for $205!. They're just awesome! read more

It's tough to assign a bad rating to any business that provides local jobs in these economic times. There are some things about Pep Boys that are convenient and the employees themselves seem like hardworking people; on the other hand, it sucks to feel like you just paid a bunch of money for work that you didn't necessarily need to have done. I have an older minivan and it's never started up easily but this summer it got worse with the stalling out in the heat and refusing to start until several hours later (and of course it would start up immediately when I would take it to my usual mechanic making it next to impossible for him to diagnose the problem). One Saturday in September disaster struck and I couldn't take it to my usual mechanic. My tow service offered 10% off if I took it to Pep Boys and since I didn't really have any other ideas about where to take it, I gave it a shot. The Service Engine light indicated issues relating to two sensors: Cam Shaft Position and Crank Shaft Position. $300 later it seemed everything was ok. 6 weeks later my little light was back and a quick stop at Autozone for the diagnostics revealed my computer was giving off the same error as before. I could still get from "A" to "B" so I didn't deal with the issue right away. The light would come and go and the van was always hard to start but as the months grew colder, it became impossible to start once the temp was below freezing. Once it warmed up it cranked right over but with the service light on. I finally gave in and left it with my brother's mechanic, who confirmed that the computer was indicating the cam shaft/crank shaft position sensor(s) error. I called Pep Boys and they had the van towed to them since I was under warranty. A couple of days later I had to call them just to get an update. They couldn't get it to repeat the symptom. It started right up for them every time and the sensors didn't seem to be malfunctioning in spite of the computer's error message. I heard from them a few days later: finally, a clue: my fuel system wasn't holding pressure overnight. They had eliminated the fuel line up to the fuel pump as the problem, so they had determined it was likely a leaky fuel injector. Time to tear the van apart for $170 plus parts (about $50 per injector). Of course all were leaking once they got in there. Picked it up after a week, took it home and the next morning.the temp was below freezing. Nothing was fixed. I eventually got it started and drove it back to the shop. They apologized and pledged to find the problem. I didn't hear anything from them. When I called a couple of days later they informed me that they had discovered the van "seemed to have a problem starting when the temperature was freezing." and "We have our best guy on it but frankly, he's stumped." Finally. At least it was repeating the symptom for them. I didn't hear anything for another couple of days. I called one evening after work and spoke to the guy who'd been "specially appointed" to fix my problem once and for all. He claimed that he'd gone back in and checked the fuel system's pressure again only to find that it was still leaking. Apparently one of the brand-new injectors was leaking. At this point we were at a warm spell so he couldn't fully test the issue in below-freezing temps. I opted to pick up the van anyway with the ability to call 1800 PEP BOYS at any time to have it towed back at their cost if the next sub-zero day proved the problem still was not resolved. My vehicle seems to be running properly for the last couple of days but it's nearly six months later and over $800 (closer to $1000, probably, in all) spent, not to mention countless hours of frustration and the general inconvenience of being without a vehicle. As a single parent who works full time, having to hitch rides for the last 2 weeks while these guys were "stumped" is something I never want to have to deal with again. They fixed the slow leak in one of my tires and threw in an oil change after everything was said and done so it does feel good to have everything in seemingly good order for the moment. Temps are supposed to drop pretty seriously over the next few days so I may come back on and update if I end up feeling differently one way or another. The hardest part is not knowing whether another mechanic would have diagnosed this more quickly or efficiently. I'm not even certain it wasn't something even less expensive than the sensors and the injectors, like, say, a sticky EGR valve. read more

I recommended another shop; he took it there and found out he did not need ball joints and got his inspection as well. Shame on you, Pep Boys, for such underhanded practices! read more

Terrible experience. I took my car to Pepboys to get my SUV inspected. Not even an hour later, they call me and told me that my ball joints needed replaced and my wheel bearings on my front passenger and driver's side. They said since it was so labor intensive, it was going to cost $1400. I had just gotten it inspected 2 months prior to get new tags and nothing was wrong with it. However, now all of sudden, my car is falling apart. My mom set me up with a small shop in West Plains and he passed me with flying colors. The guys at Pepboys saw this 20 year old girl coming a mile away and took advantage of my ignorance. Do not go to Pepboys! read more

I needed help replacing a bulb because my blinker went out in the rear passenger side of my car. I asked for assistance and was treated very rudely and was told that it would cost between $40.00 to $80.00 to replace a bulb. My husband is blind so he could not help me and they offered no assistance unless I paid for it. By the way the bulb only cost $6.49. read more

6 months ago I order tires and had it sent to pep boys to install. I made sure it was correct. 3 hours later, they told me the tires I ordered were incorrect. I insisted and tried to explain that the tires are correct. The front and the rear are different. They didn't really want to listen. Turns out, I was right. They installed the rear tires to the front, and front to the rear. Wow... Is it that hard? Poor customer service. Unfriendly and I always get the judging stare the whole time I was waiting. I am a woman, and they treat me poorly. They are more friendly towards men. Yes, I don't know much about cars, but I hate that they just assume I was wrong about anything I said. read more

First the cool thing about pep boys is that they will let you being used parts of you need something replaced. I needed a windshield wiper motor replaced, or at least that's what I thought I needed to replace. I was quoted $200 for labor of 2 hrs. When I got there Derrick came out to take a look to see what was actually wrong and turns out all I needed was have the bolts tightened on the windshield wiper arms. He didn't charge me at all. So not only did I save money and time but he did say that he tries to help people save money, which made me feel like he actually cared. They're probably the fist shop I've ever been to that didn't try to rip me off because for one I'm a girl and I do not speak car. read more
