This is a letter I wrote to Pep Boy customer service: I genuinely want to thank Stephanie and her crew at PEP BOY on Scranton Carbondale Hwy in Scranton, Pa. On February 20, 2015 I was driving from NYC to Ithaca, NY with my son for his college audition. We were making great time. And then the car suddenly overheated. The temperature outside was below zero. AAA towed us to your shop. Our good friends, also going to Ithaca, detoured to pick us up and we left the car in your shop overnight. From the moment we walked in the door we felt well taken care of. My car came into the shop completely dry. No coolant, no oil, nothing, in spite of being checked just the day before. It could have been a number of things, ranging from a minor repair to a major event. Stephanie was knowledgeable, thorough...and honest. Stephanie knows what she is talking about. We felt like she really wanted us to be back on the road in a safe car. And that is what happened - at a very low cost. Not only that, but when we came to pick it up the next day, Brian gave us a ride to a diner so we could get something to eat while they took one more look to be safe. They even offered to pick us up after we ate. Aside from giving clear, informative updates, Stephanie sets a positive, friendly and honest tone at the front desk. We saw her interacting with a lot of customers, calmly answering every question in detail. That must take a lot of energy. I mean, nobody is happy about bringing their car in for repairs. And it was busy and late in the day. This could have been an awful experience. Well, it was pretty exhausting but we met some good people, and we got back to NYC... I had a good experience for new tires so I thought I'd come back and get my breaks serviced. After the inspection, there was another problem found. All in all the total came to around $2300. At that price I wanted to get another opinion. While the diagnosis was correct, the quote from PepBoys came in $1000 higher than another full service center. Today I had my tires remounted and balanced after replacing a defective rim. I was blown away at the friendly service and speed at completing the work. I've had most of my tire work performed here and will keep coming back. Thanks guys! read more

Scheduled an appointment to have my cars TPMS replaced a week in advance. The day of my appointment I drove 30 mins there for them to tell me sorry they didn't have the cable to the computer they needed to reset them and couldn't do the service. I never received a call, email, or notification before showing up and they just shrugged me off like there was no inconvenience. read more

I received terrific help from two different employees today! My oil pressure light came on while driving down 81 and stopped to get oil. They helped me get the correct oil, confirmed how much I needed and showed me how to properly add it to my car. Well outside the range of their duties! I finished my trip safely!! Thanks!! read more

The first time I took my truck here a few years ago for them to put new tires and rims on the hit the side of my truck with a large bar. Which I just happened to be videotaping at the time because I knew what was coming sure enough in the video he hit the truck. Upon me asking them they said absolutely not they did not do that. Then I called corporate showed them the video they ended up having to pay $3200 for the damage done to my truck. Last week I went in for the first time in two years to order lights for my car they said they would call me the next day to tell me if they came in I'm still waiting this place is a joke!! read more

If I could I would give it a negative below 0 stars. I went online and scheduled a state inspection. Later on got a call stating they could not do the Pa inspection and had to cancel due to not having someone certified to do the inspection within the next 3 days. Was ok with this about a week and a 1/2 later called up and made an appointment for a Saturday at noontime and when I called verified with employee that there would be someone available to do the inspection and stated Saturday at noon would be the only available slot so I scheduled the appointment. Arrived at pep boys 1/2 hour from my house. Talked to gray/white haired associate, took a phone call after talking to me as I stated I was there for an inspection, made me wait until he was done with the call. Then went to the computer and stated I didn't have an appointment and there was nobody there that could do the service. He stated he didn't know who took the call. Needless to say I left very pissed off. A friend of mine was a manager here in the past and it was ok for a while now it seems as shitty as the rest midas and so on where you get treated like crap and ripped off, and do not provide the service you ask for. Never again this place is dead to me now. Stay away to avoid a bad situation. read more

There is no situation too small for this team lead by Matt who went above and beyond the call of duty. And simply for my Mercedez key which needed a new battery. Not only did this team all work like a well oiled engine together (from the young lady who greeted me when I arrived and realized a Benz key was not the easiest thing to figure out due to the sensor, to Matt who searched none other than YouTube on his phone for exactly how to open the mystifying key toggle.) They took good care of me and treated the problem with the same seriousness as a much more expensive situation. He opened it and successfully changed the battery. All for less than maybe a five dollar purchase. I love Pep Boys for this reason (excellent service and I appreciate a staff and managers like Matt. I guess it doesn't have to be lonely on that extra mile of excellent customer service. Thanks. read more

A few bumps that were promptly resolved, and I did not even have to raise a fuss. They saw the issue and they chose to resolve the issue. The service manager is extremely polite and never talks down to his (me) lay customers. read more

We stopped in to get a headlamp for my friend's car and when he asked the cashier if they were difficult to install, the cashier, Matt, jumped out from behind the counter, followed us outside and installed the lamps without being asked. Took my nissan titan in for new tires, and an oil change. A couple weeks later my truck starts dying intermittently, have it towed to dealer. Cause...missing airfilter...idiots at pepboys pulled the airfiltrer out and didnt put it back, intake full of dirt. Called gm, and service manager refuse to followup or return phone calls. Then start noticing a strange sound from my tires, take them in to a different shop and they are ALL out of balance...they didnt bother to balance them AT ALL. I dont use this vehicle often so it took a while for the issues to be obvious. These guys suck, management could not care less, do not take your vehicle here EVER!!! read more

Don't order tires online. When you arrive they won't even know about the appointment and they won't have the tires in stock.

I was passing through Scranton when I got a flat tire at 6PM. Pep Boys was the only place I could find open at that time. It turned out I had a screw in the sidewall and the tire had to be replaced. A. J. and the rest of the Pep Boys team went out of their way to give me a great price on a new tire and to install it quickly. These guy are the best. Thank you. read more

Michael Carson complete liar and scammer. Went in for an inspection know I needed tires and a head light. I also knew they would try to overcharge me for something because I was a woman and don't have a clue how a car works. But in fact I know lots about cars considering I rebuilt a 65 GTO 450 Big Block engine from top to bottom, body work everything except the tranny so I know a little about how a car work. Michael Carson tells my my sway ( stabilizer bars ) and links are completely broken. I ask him, " Wouldn't I notice something like that?" He replied, " Know you wouldn't notice it , you probably hit a pot hole." Lol What a joke, I say okay i am going to take a look at these so- called links and sway bars. Well guess what they were not broken at all. When I spoke to the mechanic he said they are not broke we just need to put the cap back on 1 bolt on 1 link. This is what he wanted to charge me $400 for. PEP BOYS STOP TRYING TO RIP OFF WOMAN ( AND MEN ). I am not that girl!!! Only reason why I went to this joke of mechanic shop is that I needed tires and an inspection. Michael Carson you are a liar and thief and simply got caught. I will have news team in there to expose there scam. Women don't let these people rip you off. Get a 2nd opinion and research how much things cost and don't be afraid to ask to see exactly what they claim to be broken. read more

I went in for tires and a oil change service was prompt and the guys were awesome... They told me the tire size that was on my truck was wrong and put the recommended size on for me... While they were working on my truck they saw a problem with one of the springs on the rear... It was broken and could a hazard on the road... They quoted me a price and fixed the problem... I feel safer having taken my truck to them and would recommend their services to anyone... read more

Tire buyers beware!! Plan on spending approximately 80 dollars more than what you are quoted over the phone. They fail to mention their expensive "tire installation package" until right before they shock you with the final bill. Also, be advised that they will NEVER put new tires on the front of your front wheel drive vehicle unless you are ordering 4 new tires.... wait for it.... they also don't tell you that's their POLICY until you are at the counter hearing their trumped up reasons why.....way to piss off the customer Pep Boys....Stay away!!! Gimmicks, BS and experts at raping your checking account and credit cards!!! You may as well order steak, settle for hamburger and get charged an extra 20 bucks just for walking in the door!! read more

brought in for inspection, they did not tighten lugs on front wheel, 3 days felt fine, was on turnpike and steering wheel wobbling and thought it was brake pads, jacked up truck and wheel was flopping around, nuts where just hanging on by a few threads, took nuts off by hand, these hick inbreds almost wiped out my family. never get anything done here. they are probably not certified technicians. if you see kids just out of high school in the shop, walk out. read more

My boyfriend and I got a flat tire on our way from New York to DC in Scranton on 630 pm. We ended up being directed to the local pep boys, and I am so glad we were! Matt and Chris were great, helped to make sure we could get on the road quickly and were great with there advice. I would have given this pep boys a 5 but it due to the cashier in the non auto service area who was not very customer oriented. Best Auto repair EVER!!! Fair, honest, they go out of their way to help. Our family was traveling around PA in our son's older Subaru when about half way through our trip, it started acting up in a serious sounding way. To make things worse, it was a Sunday. Not being at all familiar with the area, we called AAA and they referred us to Pep Boys on the Scranton Carbondale Hwy, the closest auto repair open on Sunday. We cautiously made our way to their facility where we were promptly helped but told it would be an hour before they could look at it. No problem. We were just happy someone was open and we were preparing ourselves for a huge bill and maybe an overnight stay. We were shocked and ecstatic when less than an hour later, we were told it was fixed, would only cost my son about $17. They explained that a previous repair (recently done by a state accepted place which my son had gone to and received a certificate for), had neglected to install a vital part which would have created a much bigger problem had we not stopped. It was like a miracle to be led to this fabulous establishment. We can't thank them enough!!! read more

Took my blazer there making a funny noise in front they took my car within 20 minutes and after 2 minutes inspecting it they found the problem told me what it was and fixed it they only charged the inspection fee.
