Took my F150 in to get my brake fluid replaced. I told them I would pay extra for Dot4 instead of the standard Dot3. They told me they would be using Dot3/4 at no extra charge. They ended up using Dot3 for $2 more than it was selling for inside the stored. Spent a lot of time giving me quotes on things that were soon to "go bad". Now I have to take my truck someplace else to get Dot4 put in it. Pay a little more and get it done right someplace else. read more

So to be honest... I have not been to this Pep Boys in about 25 years because I'd had a lot of bad experiences in the 80s in the 90s at this Pep Boys and I swore off ever going in there again. So it's 100° out today in the middle of a pandemic and my husband's route to work is on literally on fire and his battery died this morning... We called about five or six different places because I was so reticent to go back to this Pep Boys... BUT, they were the only parts store that actually answered their phone this morning, even in comparison to other Pep Boys in the West Valley (I'm looking at you Fallbrook who never answers their phone) And they actually answered their phone in a friendly professional manner, only kept us on hold a few seconds, and had his battery in stock. So I need to drive my husband over there and my little 10 pound dog just had surgery and couldn't be left home so we had no choice but to bundle him up with his halo, with my husband, and his old battery out of his car and off to Pep Boys we went! First off the Cashier, who I later discovered was the manager (Matthew), immediately greeted us upon walking in the store... Actually he greeted every single person turning his head to make eye contact yet one never slowing down his cashiering, offering carts & answering questions... I also noticed it was cool inside which was surprising as one of the reasons I used to HATE going here is that for close to 25-30yrs they just refused to actually run a/c properly even when it was 110° outside! Matthew quickly offered us a cart for the battery, told us where to go, and then onto the parts department where they immediately found a battery & tested our old battery... while they were testing the old battery my little pup I'm holding in my arms got kind of squirmy & started panting... and a kind & lovely man from the parts counter by the name of MAURU took his Gatorade bottle emptied it washed it cut the bottom off and filled it with cold water for my little pup all while he maintains social distancing and he had a mask on... MAURU was beyond kind and friendly and I was so very touched. Before we knew it the other gentleman at parts counter who had been testing my husband's battery had everything ready for us to go up to the front. I can honestly say in 40 years this was my best experience at this Pep Boys!! or any Pep Boys ANYWHERE Thank you MAURU & MATTHEW... we will b back Now I read a lot of complaints... But they all seem to be regarding the service and poor communication in the service bays... And honestly I'm not surprised they were right in line with the same issues that I've been hearing from my friends for years and again my reason for not coming back here in over 25 to 30 years... Now I noticed that a fair amount of these complaints were from ladies... and as a woman myself believe me I understand how vulnerable you feel especially when going to get our cars repaired and really & I don't think that many men are capable of understanding that... My wife and I used to live in Tarzana and my wife brought her car here for new tires. This was about two years ago (2017). Yesterday, we had to bring her car in to a Firestone as she had a flat, and the service center asked if she wanted all new tires, considering hers were 4 years old. We were very confused as we purchased NEW tires in 2017 from Pep Boys, yet they told us (and showed us evidence) that the tires on her car were from 2015. So this Pep Boys location put 2 year old tires on her car, which explains all the leaking air issues she has had, and told us they were new. They also showed us the "patch" they did on one of her tires when a small nail punctured it, and they said it was a horrible patch job. This is far from the first time Pep Boys has given us terrible service and we will never use them again. read more

DO NOT go to this pep boys. They wrecked my car! I had my brakes replaced a month ago and enjoyed the experience, so i went back when i had run over some nails. They told me i had to replace the tire with nails plus the two in the back because they're old and cracking. Now I'm questioning if that was even true. I get my car back with my steering wheel facing 30° to the right, my tire pressure light on (which seems typical and no big deal), and my forward collision alerts not working. I go back and realize that my car had actually been run into something yellow (in a parking lot full of yellow poles and service bay entrances with yellow paint on the corners) and now i have a $2,717 estimate to replace my front sensor that pep boys broke. When i call to give/receive updates i get "i don't care" "that doesn't effect me" answers. Waiting to see if they catch who did this on their security cameras. read more

Came in for an oil change. They took forever and was really annoyed at how long I spent there. Price was fair hence the three star review.

This place is ridiculous. Had an appointment at 11am showed up at 10:30 for a suspension inspection, alignment check and to have them check my tires. I waited patiently for the first hour cause I wanted to see what my estimates were before deciding if I was going to repair or if I was going to go else where after the initial hour, I had to ask why my car haven't been started on and when they will let me know about what they found, I couldn't leave because I was still waiting on my estimates which I never got. Fast forward to 2:30 they finally tell me that they are going to balance my tires which they claimed they did, then another 40 mins passed by and now the tech comes out and tells me they couldn't do the alignment on my car cause they couldn't find the specs for my 2011 mercedes. I asked if they can provide me with the inspection of what they found. They said they found nothing. Questionable because all my tires remained untouched, tire pressure still read the same, and no inspection report was given to me but yet still charged me. This place is a joke the people working in the service department all needs PROPER TRAINING or something cause they literally don't do shit, sit on there phones argue with one another, eating there lunch while talking to customers and picking up cell phone calls while in the middle of helping. Please go else where as the people here are to lazy to do their jobs correctly. Side note I went to another shop right after and they were able to point out exactly what was needed to be done on my car without even telling them what was wrong with my vechile. I went just for a $69.99 brake fluid exchange I waited 3 hours. When they inspected my brakes they said I needed parts both rear brakes were leaking oil $101.58. And to also replace drums on both back wheels $154.99. And one rear shock was damaged $306.38 labor. Offered me 1 year labor warranty $52.08. I explained to the mechanic I had the both rear drum kit and both rear shock kit I previously purchased online but their total was still$700.85. I declined all the rest of the service I only wanted the break fluid they denied me service said I should not be driving like that, the car is not safe it should be towed home. I went to my mechanic shop and only charge me $250 includes brake fluid, rear drums replaced labor, rear shocks replaced labor. (I only provided both rear drum kit and both rear shock kit) read more

I called everyone in town - Big O, Just Tires, American Tire, Costco and a handful of mom-and-pop shops. Most didn't have the size in stock, and those who did quoted me $$$. I was about to just pull the trigger on one of the shops that had my size when I was reminded that Pep Boys does tires too. I called, they didn't have my size at this location but sent someone to another to get them today - AND they were a name brand tire at a reasonable price AND they were running a buy 3 get 1 free promo. I started the day thinking I was going to be out $1300 or more, and finished the day significantly less than that... The rumor is that eventually the stores will open as Advanced auto but for the time being they are losing market share to other automotive part suppliers. Brought in my Jeep Compass (2017) for a squeaking noise it was making and ended up with a $1,000 bill. Now, they fixed the problem and brought up some other issues (pads+rotors needed to be replaced, low coolant, changed brake fluid) but that's not the part I'm angry about. It's when I look over the bill and it cost over $650 for a brake pad and rotor change!!!! The other $350 was for labor and parts to replace an idler pulley ($25 part). Wtf I've had rotors and pads done before at other auto shops for $300-$400 before depending on the vehicle. But god damn, $650???? This was an easy $500 job but that's not the pep boy way. They doubled the price and left me dumbfounded when it was time to pay. Next time I'm taking my car to a more honest shop. read more

When back for something else this time. I know for sure this place takes advantage of people. They wanted to charge me $100 for a diagnostic test on my car. For the same issues I had last time. I told the guy I knew the problem but he said he had a paper of things that might car might need. Guess what it was the gas lid not being tight. So they wanted to charge me for something I already knew what it was and telling me it can't be that it had to be one of the things he mentioned. Crazy how they really don't care about customers service they just assuming stuff and making you pay for something you don't need. The customer service was amazing , Sonia was so kind and informative, she stopped what she was doing to jumped right in and help with my questions and concerns and gave me the information I needed and was just simply friendly which is always nice, (I mean it's customer service right, and hers was great, love her attitude and vibes.) I had AAA come to my house because my Prius was dead. They indicated I needed a new battery but they didn't have one. I frantically called a few shops because I couldn't wait until the next day...and it was getting late. Nobody could be bothered to check to see if they had the correct battery in stock for my Prius. But, when I called Pep Boys on Reseda and Sherman Way, Juan answered and he took his time to help me. He asked me for the model number to double check to make sure it was, in fact, the correct battery, Luckily, they had the correct battery in stock and he told me to come down and they'd replace it for me. He could have rushed me off the phone like the others did, but instead, he chose to be kind and to be helpful. When I got there, I was greeted and he knew right away who I was. I was in and out of there within 30-minutes. Definitely a positive experience. We need more people like Juan who treat customers with care and respect. read more

The online price for second item was cheaper than store price and when I pointed it out to the cashier, he simply asked me what was the online price and he quickly followed up with "I can do that!". The parts are reasonably priced and they carry a good selection and it is a large store. However, NEVER BUY TIRES HERE! I got a flat and put the spare on and went to Pep Boys with an extra rim with no tire on it. I was going to buy 2 tires. But, the tire salesman insisted I get a 4 wheel alignment even though you cannot really align the rear on my 4 wheel drive. Also, I had an alignment 1 year ago and since my SUV is pretty heavy duty, it doesn't go out of alignment unless I hit something hard or something wears out. But, I have changed all the parts that wear out. So, the tire salesman pissed me off. So, I only bought 1 tire. I know why the reviews are so low... The service and man power here are horrible. I know of other pep boys locations that are great, in fact I think the Culver City one is pretty good. I called in for a simple oil change to see what the prices and the wait looked like. I was told to come in now and it would be very quick, no wait. I come in and one man is running the desk. There is one person in front of me and another waiting for him to adjust some receipt...I wait over 20 minutes for him to tell me it will take an hour and a half for an oil change. That is ridiculous and not what I was told on the phone. Meanwhile plenty pf employees walked by during this time and offered no assistance to me and the person who walked up waiting behind me. The place was NOT super busy... A freakin week day and not during lunch hour. So thank you very much for the false estimate and waste of my time. Person at the service counter told me they couldn't do the work today. I don't understand why the appointment slot would be open if they couldn't accept another car. My mother brought her car to this location on 7/6/2020 to have a new battery installed. She only wanted a new battery for her Firebird, and she had a 1 PM appointment. She arrived at her scheduled appointment time and purchased the battery and was told they would install it. They pulled her car into the service bay and my mom sat in the waiting area. An hour passed (a long time for just a battery installation ) and my mother inquired as to why her car was taking so long but did not get a straight answer. After an additional 30 minutes of waiting (it was now 2:30 pm for a 1 pm battery installation). After waiting for an hour and a half, my mother walked into the service bay and noticed that a car creeper was positioned right underneath her car. Why would there be a car creeper for a battery install? The hood of the car was up but there was nobody working on the car. When one of the techs saw my mom looking at the car creeper he walked over to her car and started checking the tires and then looked at the license plate, then he immediately said "you can go to the parking lot and we will bring out your car." It is now 2:57pm, most of the service customers who had come in after she had received service, and left, and my elderly mom was still there. Finally, when my mom got into her car to drive home, she turned on the AC and only hot air came out. After noticing after a few minutes that the AC never kicked in, and her AC was working 100% ok when she arrived, she turned back and went back inside to inquire as to why her AC was no longer working. When my mom asked the service technician who had processed her car battery order why she didn't have any AC after they installed the battery, he said "Your freon must be gone." Interesting answer--does Freon just magically disappear when you guys install car batteries? Or do you have a pattern of taking advantage of elderly women who come into your location alone? The level of freon was fine when she came into the store to have a new battery installed and after a ridiculously long time, 2 hours for a battery install she had no working AC! I know you don't need a car creeper to change a battery, but you definitely need one to drain Freeon from her car. If you think that you can get away with scamming elderly women, then you picked the wrong one, because I am not going to stop until I find out exactly what was done to my mother's car, starting with a phone call and email to your corporate office. I know there are cameras in the service bay, so everything that I just wrote can be confirmed. Also, your generic yelp reply asking to "send your contact info blah blah blah" won't work. I want an explanation as to why you had a car creeper under her car for a battery install and why it took you 2 hours to replace a battery, and WHY HER AC NO LONGER WORKS!!!! read more

I should have known better when I was on time for my 11:30 appointment and they did not even take my car in to the bay until just after 12. Even with the leeway that auto service companies need and are given by the consumer, this was still not good. Was given a time frame that was overextended by about 45 minutes plus. An oil and filter change and a radiator drain and refill. I trust the oil filter was changed along with the oil, no way to tell without getting under the car. Was told the extra time was for the full drain of the coolant. Checked the overflow container later and I hope they put in the correct amount of new fluid. I was automatically supposed to get a complimentary tire rotation (with the O/F service) which they NEVER mentioned and did not do. Also, I asked for my promo senior discount. I was so happy to get out of there that I just spit balled the discount in my head when leaving. Lo and behold, it was not the full 10% BUT $10.00. The difference of only a dollar or two but it is the principal AND the point. Nelson was a nice guy and pleasant but that in no way weighs favorably in the other direction. If Pep Boys is your thing, then I suggest PB on Sepulveda in Van Nuys. Excellent service writers and pretty good experience with their service. read more

First the service department.. Went there numerous times Service department are slower then molasses they have most of the time one person working. Service manager lack any common sense for not getting more hours for employees hours so customer do not have wait so long . 1 star for service department. Wait time way to long. Mechanics are great five stars. Leo is the best of them. As long as people can get passed his grumpiness. Though Leo is the best Mechanic very knowledgeable. The store it self is good. Plenty of everything. Cashiers some are friendly some are not. Not enough cashiers. At times long wait times. Part department again you can be waiting there for a long period of time. People are friendly though. Again Who ever is in charge for that part department lack common sense. Again give your employees more hours so guest do not have to wait so long. Over all its one star do to corporate because of the lack of hours they give there employees That end up keeping there customer waiting. and certain grumpy employees.
