Beware buying tires from Pep Boys. I bought 4 with road hazard late last year. Recently had nail in sidewall of one which means tire had to be replaced. There was only one other pep boys in the city that had these and because pep boys is only company that sells them I couldn't get one from anywhere else. The store in 38112 zip refused to have the tire shipped or picked up from other location so I asked could if I could get it and they install. They said no. So with recent back issues I had to change a tire and drive 45 minutes away to get tire swapped. Can't say enough negative things about 38112 store location. Don't know if their actions are store policy or not but definitely not customer friendly. read more

I just recently visited this location. I gave them a I call asked them to see if they had the size tire for my vehicle and they said yes only to straight up. Rejected my service because of a few bumps in tears on the Vehicle do not recommend it . Doesn't look like they want to work not coming back. Hope they fix their staff because that kind of service does not help them at all. read more

Waited until 7:30 (was 30 minutes late to work because of this) to try to talk to a technician when they got there, but no one showed up until after 8 when I had already left. Kenny was able to squeeze me in, get it repaired and also offered up several recommendations of places to eat and see while in Memphis. Kenny was extremely pleasant and was much easier to deal with than my rental company. He submitted the paperwork and got me out in record time. I would highly recommend!! read more

I went in today simply to get a flat tire replaced. I had put on the spare tire myself before arriving. I have changed tires and put on spares on numerous occasions, and so I know what I am doing. I drove in, they checked me in, and I waited. They came back with the new tire on my car rather quickly, but then told me that one of the lug/hub posts had the thread stripped from 'who ever put on the lug nut' and the post broke and 'the car would still drive' although one lug nut and post was broken. A very heated discussion ensued between the manager and myself which included the manager claiming I had been abusive and irate since I walked in because I 'objected to giving out my address and phone number,' which is true, but it was a simple polite rejection and I after the lady explained why they needed it, I (reluctantly) gave my information. The manager's stance was that they were not at fault and it was 'someone else' who stripped the threads on the post, and their mechanic, through SOP, could not help breaking the post in order to get the lug nut off to change the tire. My stance was that I knew I put the lug nuts on properly, and that everything was fine when I drove up, and whatever happened, happened in their shop, so they should take responsibility for their actions in their shop and fix the post, free of charge. The manager insisted that they were not responsible. I stated that was 'not good business practice' and that I am the customer and in order to encourage future business he should take responsibility and fix the issue free of charge. That's when he claimed that I had been irate since I walked in the door (which can lead any reasonable person to think his actions were punitive in nature but I leave the reader to decide that for themselves) and that he was 'trying to protect his technician' - from what, I do not know. ?? But my point is this. My lug nuts and posts were fine when I drove up. It was broken in their shop! So, the rest is speculation. Anything could have happened in their shop to actually cause the breakage. The technician could have taken the lug nut off and put it back on, or accidentally tightened it and broke it that way. Anything. And the unfair thing to me is that there is no way I can ever know what happened, and they know that. But what I do know is the manager made it clear in our discussion that he was not concerned about losing customers and was concerned about protecting his technician. As an aside, I put the spare on by hand. They use machines to screw and unscrew lug nuts. Which is more probable in this situation - that my bare hands which felt a correctly threaded lug nut somehow stripped the threads, or that something happened in the shop and they broke my post by making a mistake? Finally, their decision to refuse to take responsibility is bad customer service, not good business practice, and for me, it MORE THAN DOUBLED MY BILL! So, to summarize, what matters here is that the hub post was broken in their shop, so they should take responsibility for what happens in their shop. While I am sure that others may have had a good experience here, for the above reason, I did not. They did nothing that shows me they respect me as a customer, and they are clearly, at least in my case, not interested in satisfying the customer, but instead more interested in protecting their own, even if it means more than doubling the charge for the customer (me). Because I was mischaracterized, treated with disdain, disrespected, not accommodated, and made to feel like something that happened in their shop was my fault, I can not recommend going here. They get two stars instead of one because they did change the tire, and they were fairly expedient with the job. One final note, I took my lug wrench out after I got home to carefully test the lug nut on the new hub post, and took that lug nut off and saw some metal shards on the new post, and the lug nut was unusually difficult to turn, so it is my sneaking suspicion that they messed up the new hub post and stripped those threads because it is not screwing in correctly. But since my experience was so poor, I do not feel comfortable trusting them to fix what I suspect is yet another mishap/mistake, made by them. read more

Got a flat tire about 900 ft from this place so it was the best option. The woman at the reception provided some of the lousiest, grumpy customer service I've been subject to. Upon entering I politely waited as she and a gentleman discussed at length the his homemade pickles, the ingredients of his marinade, their level of spiciness, etc. eventually he left, leaving she and I in the waiting room. She just stared at me without speaking. I said hi and that I had a flat tire. . She asked me if I knew the tire size and when I said I didn't she acted somewhat fed up with me. I wasn't sure what I was doing wrong. Without speaking she went outside and came back and after a couple more minutes of uncomfortable silence she said they are putting another tire on. I said that I'd like them to see if the hole could be patched. She was like "I suppose but it's doubtful." Turned out the patch worked and she was trying to sell me a new tire that I didn't need. When I asked if someone could get me a half a mile down the road to get back to work she said "no" The second star is because the guy who called to tell me it was ready to be picked up was nicer than the aforementioned receptionist. read more

Made an appointment for an oil change. Called and verified before arriving. When i got there the gave me an hour wait... for an oil change. Pep Boys website offed $25 gift certificate for an oil change but the manager knew nothing about it and didn't offer to call the office. I didn't wait for the oil change, maybe an hour wait would turn into a longer time. Pep Boys, maybe one day you will be men. read more

So this was on the way to my work, so I did an oil change with them. They told me it would take 30-45 mins. Ok, no biggie. 1.5 hours later, my car hadn't been taken back, I asked, they said I was next....did not leave there until after 12 noon. (Got there around 9 am.) Sigh. Anyway, I should have learned my lesson. I have a normal mechanic I go to but he's a little mom/pop shop and couldn't get me in the day I started feeling like my car was jerking during acceleration. I walked in, and I was so happy to see a female manager. I thought, there's no way I will get ripped off! I explained my problem and she said I'm pretty sure you just need a tune up, but I'm going to put down the $89 diagnostic fee but will waive because will likely need to do some work to it. The neat thing is that they offer complimentary Lyft rides if you need to go to work. So I head to work in my Lyft, they call me and say ok you need new spark plugs and motor mount and this should fix the issue. Quoted me $750. I should have known better and gotten a second opinion but I'm at the mercy of these people. Anyway, I pick up my car and the problem remains and actually occurs more frequently. Again, my stupidity, I should have taken it back to have them look at it but I was swamped at work and afraid I would just be ripped off again. A few weeks later, the check engine light comes on. My normal mechanic runs the codes, it's a transmission issue. Take it to the transmission specialist, confirms the issue. Pretty sure that the problem started the day I took it to Pep Boys but they failed to diagnose the correct issue and I sunk money into a ten year old car that in the end, needed a new transmission. Though some of these issues were my fault, I would not recommend Pep Boys (I can only speak to this specific location). read more

You guys never called me even to give me a price, even though I checked the box on my appointment to call me for additional details. So I never got a price, but you sure aimed at getting me in for the appointment, probably because you wanted to give me a price after it was too late to bother going somewhere else. I don't fall for those tricks anymore. Second, when I tried to cancel the appointment, your site and FAQ says to go to the "eserve" section on your site. Well, you have cleverly removed the eserve section, so it's impossible to cancel an appointment. Third, you provide a phone number to call you once the appointment is made, but again, the dirty trick you play is to not pick up the phone, in fact, the option tree just forces you into a continous loop of going back to the beginning to press 1 for sales and service, dials it, no answer, machine answers and again tells you to press 1 for sales and service, loop again. If you guys can't get the basics of customer service right, there's something wrong with you. I ended up taking my car elsewhere where there was no appointment necessary, I got a great price that was half the price of my dealer, and I was encouraged not to overspend on stuff, no sales pressure. read more

I have been here twice to have a tire replaced after a bubble in the sidewalk and a nail destroyed a tire. I had similar experiences both times. Overall i was very happy with the service, the pricing and the time. I don't normally use pep boys but i will continue to at this point. It usually isn't very busy in there and it's close to my home and convenient. I do agree with previous reviewers that the front desk employee can come across abrasive and rude but i think that's just her demeanor and once she saw me a couple of times she was relatively warm and congenial. Honestly, she could probably be a little less sterile and flat as far as attitude, but everything else was fine and i recommend going here if you need a quick, local fix. read more

I went into PEP BOYS on on poplar ave, memphis tn..8/21/19 to purchase 2 new tires & i will say it was the WORST experience ive EVER had there. The lady at the front desk..Charlotte Askue was rude, has a CRAPPY *since i cant curse* attitude. She does NOT know how to speak to people. & i made it KNOWN that her customer service skills SUCK. When she wanted my keys to my car all she did was look at me stick her hand & say KEYS..thats it. I think shes just a mean OLD (used up) bitter lady. I wont be going back & i will be contacting corporate. This is NOT over. The other employees i met were nice & very acommodating Charlotte is ruining their business, & i guarantee there will be many more complaints about her. I wait tables pt & come in contact with the worst of people that I dont like & would rather NOT see, but i STILL would not treat them the way she treated me & a few other people in that store. read more

My husband and I just drove from California and our windshield wiper broke as a big Strom was getting ready to roll in. We stopped at the Pep Boys. We had just bought the original wipers at Pep boys in California. Quinton was nice enough to explain that the arm had bent. He explained to my husband how to fix to get us back on the road. I went here at 8:30 in the morning to get an oil change. I had a coupon for a $17.99 oil change. Some sourpuss woman attends me, treating me with all the warmth of a cigar store Indian (and a more unpleasant expression, actually.) After I gave her my keys, she vanishes and I go to the waiting area. One hour and ten minutes pass, and they have not so much as given me an update, despite the fact that only 1 or 2 other people are in there. I finally ask the man at the desk and he nonchalantly tells me they are very busy and the sourpuss must have just forgotten to tell me. Incredibly convincing. He tells me my car is on deck, so not to worry. Another 30 minutes pass, absolutely nothing happens, and I ask for my keys back because I had a meeting to attend. I ask and he agrees that I can drop by later in the day. Later, I have my wife follow me because now I know they are the slowest service shop around. We drop it off and waste time for 2 hours and come back, seeing the car waiting for us. I had asked the man to call me when it was ready, but no explanation was ever given as to why I was never called. Then, predictably at this point, my bill comes out to $29. I politely ask why, and he first looks confused, then gets snippy (it is that price because I have a coupon, he says, as if to suggest I am an ingrate for not recognizing the shockingly low price they have given me!). He then unhappily tells me he can break down the bill for me. He says that the coupon covers only 5 quarts, and because an extra quart was added (I was never advised or given a say in this, despite leaving my number with them), and a cheap air filter, my bill was inflated to almost double the advertised price. This is the fault of the company, of course. WHen this same store was Mathis Tire, such tricks and gimmicks never occurred to me. All in all, a horrible experience. No other oil change in my entire life has taken more than 30-40 minutes, soup to nuts. I basically ruined my Friday by patronizing this place. Avoid this place, and this company, at all costs. read more

They put two rear tires on, and that's cool. But, they charged me $30.99 for repair of a headlight (bulb) that did not work. When I brought it back, Bryan Scott, counter person, said, "Hey man, we did what we were paid to do. Everybody makes mistakes, man." I said, "But I just paid you cash." He said, "Well did you get a receipt?" I said, "No." He said, "Well there you go, Man." I was so upset, that I left. I guess that's what he was wanting. I feel cheated. He refused to give my money back, took out the bulb from the headlight, and kept my money. Ouch. Please prospective customer: this is a cautionary tale. read more

Came here the other day. Salesman told me that I had a screw in the tire too close to the sidewall and consequently the tire needed to be replaced. He then proceeds to try to sell me a pair of tires as it is safer. After having a really bad feeling about all this, and an estimate at $436 plus tax, I decided to go to my usual tire dealer, a bit further from home. (Pep boys added air to my tire, so I could drive a short ways. No charge at Pep boys.) I go to my usual tire dealer, and tell them my tire has an issue. They take a look at it. After 15 mins, I look up, and see my car is not in the bay...the counter person hands me my keys and tells me...my tire had a nail and we fixed it. How about that!?! I won't go to Pep Boys ever again. NOT recommended. read more

Worst place ever! I needed three sensors for my tires. I've been here since 1:00pm and it's now 4pm. Not busy, two people here, including myself. Two of the technicians come out yelling at each other and telling me, i need to come back, they do not have four sensors. I only asked for three by the way. Cussing at each other, cussing the guy who works up front out and yelling at me. This is Memphis so it doesn't surprise me about this behavior. It is also mind blowing this is how the store is ran. I'm not sure why it is okay for them to yell at me, cuss towards me and the guy working upfront. Unprofessional! read more

They didnt rotate my tires even tho they said they would, when asked why not they lied and said they did, however my tires are marked and they clearly didnt rotate them. They said itd take an hr for a oil change and tire rotation, it took 3 hrs. The lying is really where they lost me however. read more

That customer service representative was very professional when I entered and had several questions about what was best regarding my Subaru Outback. I was at first a little nervous about taking my Subaru outside of a Subaru dealership, however things were answered to my specific questions. The manager, Charlotte Askue, was extremely knowledgeable and has over 20 years in this business. I was delighted to find out that she was not only an excellent source of information but also able to provide hands-on experience. The store is very clean and comfortable and because of her Innovations it does not smell overwhelmingly of tires and it was pleasant to sit inside and enjoy the television or talk to other customers waiting for their cars. I usually get very ill when I have to get my oil changed or get new tires because of the smell in the stores so I highly recommend checking this place out if you are also sensitive to Smells. Finally, I was able to find a coupon on the corporate website and there was absolutely no problem and getting that coupon honored here at the local store. Everyone was very courteous and kind to me. Overall the experience was a pleasure and I will definitely come here again. read more

There weren't a ton of people in the shop so I would have expected someone to give me an update without having to ask. Just customer service. I am a Rhodes student and from out of town and have gone to different Firestone locations and have had no problems. But I went to this Pep Boys last week and Charlotte was so nice and helpful especially for a person who doesn't know much about cars. Like I said, my visit to Firestone locations was fine but nothing like the service and comfort I now feel with Pep Boys. This is my new go to spot for the rest of my time in Memphis. read more
