EXTREMELY HORRIBLE. DO NOT do business with this shop. I brought my car in on Sunday and was told it would be ready the next day. The next day came, and I was told it would be ready the following day. Then the next day. And the next. What was supposed to be a one-day job ended up taking an entire week. To make matters worse, the price kept increasing every time I called for an update. Somehow, the longer they kept my car, the more expensive the repair became. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The communication was absolutely terrible. I called once a day because they continuously promised the car would be ready "tomorrow." On the fourth day, nobody would answer my calls. Suspecting they were ignoring me, I called from a different phone number one minute later, and someone picked up immediately. My car is there. Unfortunately I did not read the reviews before I had my car towed there for a dead battery. That was Friday at noon. I authorized some repairs that were needed and was told my car would be ready by 7. Then they said there was a bolt problem and they had to get parts from the dealership. it would now be ready on Saturday. I called at noon on Saturday and was told the tech was still working on it and it would be ready before EOD. Dropped off at 9:15 am, went to get the tire as no one ever called at 1:30 pm and was not patched in the inside they just threw in a plug and tire kept leaking. Went for a walk in oil change, took 4 hours. Had oil stains on my door handle. For the love of god don't go there

I went there for a battery check and replacement for $250. I went back home and discovered that the both tail lights were blown out possibly due to a fuse being blown after the battery was replaced. We went back the next day, and was told that if it was their fault they will fix it and if not I'll have to pay $50 extra for the bulb and fuse. In addition, the mechanic that did my car wasn't even there so they can't do anything. The cause was very obvious, they can just say it's not their fault and I won't even know it. The motto of this place is literally "trusted since 1921", I hate to say they might be ruining that today. Please show some responsibility. I would recommend go to somewhere else more sensible. **Updates: We went back the shop just now, the mechanic informed us that we have to pay $50 for a check up no matter what. And if it was with bulb it would be $22 per bulb. I do not understand why I would have to pay extra for the thing that I wasn't the cause of. And why they won't take any responsibility, or any close to that. read more

First I will say they do quality repairs. My bf went to them with what he thought was a minor leak and it turned into the radiator needing to be replaced and the transmission flushed. When we finally got his durango back it was in tip top shape and running beautifully. The big issue with this place is they are soooo understaffed. Nobody can unexpectedly be without their vehicle for a full week. They take on more work than they can do and tell customers it will take 2 days. Then it turns out they only have 2 actual mechanics (one is the manager) everybody else only does oil changes. We never would've left the vehicle knowing it would take so long and they don't provide updates. I had to call daily until I got fed up and went in person to demand the vehicle repaired or not (on my birthday!). They definitely sped up their work then, gave us a 10% discount, and fixed a tail light for free. I think they have the best intentions just poor execution. I know times are tough and they don't want to turn customers away, but maybe have other mechanics on call for busy weeks or tell customers a realistic time when you can do the repair. Customer satisfaction should be prioritized in order for customers to return in the future. read more

The guy, only guy in the whole place he claimed, with a severe eye infection tells me no one else is there and the mechanic was on his lunch break which mind you was at 6 PM and they were closing at 8 PM. He said that he would give me a call when the guy arrived there was no guarantee that they were having trouble hiring people because everyone wasn't passing the drug test. Stopped here to get my tires rotated and I was very happy with the service. The guy behind the counter asked if I wanted to sign up for their Auto Awards program. I figured what the hell, it was quick and easy. When I went to check out he told me that the rotation was .82 cents or something crazy like that. I don't remember the exact figure but I know it was less than a buck. Apparently when you have a rewards card this service is free (I think you only have to pay for tax). I made an appointment for a wheel balancing, and they actually kept the appointment time and completed the work. The waiting area is much more open/clean than other locations. (I'm talking about you, Crestwood). The Crestwood location has delayed appointments every single time I've been there. The first time was an hour and a half past my time for an oil change, the next time was 2 hours and 40 minutes after my time, so I ended up leaving with no work being done. If you're going to do business with Pep Boys, this is the location with which to do it. Avoid the Crestwood store like the drunk single mom at a party. However, if you're buying tires and a road hazard warranty, get them from somewhere that will replace your tires when they can't be repaired. Having to pay over $90 to replace a $60 tire is unacceptable with a road hazard warranty. read more

I took my car in to get all new tires. Over $600 spent. And I later discover that they stole my tire locks. When I bought my car I purchased four locks for my tires to deter theft of my tires when I go into the city. I discovered my wheel locks missing and this location was the last ones to work on my car. They never mentioned anything about there being a problem with the locks if they needed it I had the key with me but they said that they didn't need it. Now I have to go spend $50-$75 to buy new locks for my tires. Now to some people $50-$75 may not seem like a lot but when you are living paycheck to paycheck it is a lot. But does Pepboys care? Of course not they already got their money and that is the last time they will get any money from me read more

Never bringing my car there ever again! For the past three years I have taken my car here because it was close to the house and i figured its all the same. And every six months, I would need to replace a belt that they just replaced, or a tire rod went bad again, or something that they just fixed didn't last as long as it should have. O.k maybe i'm just to tough on my car. But now its gone too far. I went in to replace my radiator cause it had a leak. They told me oh it will be 1 day and again the tire rod needs to be replaced. Really? again? no, work on the radiator and we will worry about that tire rod later. They called said it was ready, come in and it's still leaking, OK they take it back look at it, Oh it's this one piece we put on wrong hang on a sec. They tweak it and it breaks. Oh it will be one more day gotta get the replacement part. O.k fine just fix the car. Go back the next day, after they call. They never called me apparently, even though it's right there ON THE CELL PHONE that they called and said come in. So I wait two hours while they explain that they part had a pin hole in it and it's happened with the last three parts they put on. At this point I don't care what the head guy put on or took off my car I just want it fixed. Here's two oil changes cause that's going to make everything better and everything should be fixed. So a month goes by and once again the radiator is leaking (which is suppose to be new), My new mechanic said that they really did a poor job with the "new" Radiator and i will never to go back to any large company Auto store that can hide behind their logo for a poor job. My son dropped off his car for tires. They said it would be an hour or two max. After 2.5 hours he calls & they told him I'd they didn't call it isn't done. After 3 hours we decide to drive up there. There's literally ONE other customer there. Look In the bays & there's his car with the new tires. Turns out it had been done for over an hour & to make it worse they try to sell him a rear brake job! Car has 40k miles, rear brakes never needed that early. Pepboys 4'24' Store #858. 10100 South Ridge AVE., Chicago Ridge, Illinois 60415 I set up an appointment online with Pep Boys for Saturday morning 4'24'21. The problems I detailed in the appointment request was steering wheel vibration and brake light that would come on if I got up to highway speed. When there I also asked about removing two stripped lug nuts. He gave me an estimate of $262.00 saying the studs that the lug nuts were attached to would most likely also need to be replaced. I should've taken this as a hint of what was to come. I said maybe some other time. I had been to this shop in September and they had fixed the rear brake problem I had. I asked him to find out about the steering wheel vibration and the brake light problem. He said the problem was the control arm and the wheel had to come off to replace it. He said two front tires might need to be replaced so I said give me the cheapest tires they have. He gave me a long bill of $676.00. I thought the price of the two tires was also included but it wasn't. He said there might be some vibration in the steering wheel because of the tires needing to be replaced. Several times he urged me to leave. He talked about how uncomfortable the chairs must be and there is a Food Court in the Mall near by. I felt intimidated so I left. I could not find the Court so I returned and he approached me again about leaving and he would call me when my car is ready. I did not leave this time. Getting back to the Lug Nuts. I did not discover they had been stripped until a week after I had been to this shop in September. Now I'm wondering if he had done it so he could charge me $260.00 to have them replaced. I drove home. When I got on the highway everything was acting like before i.e. lots of steering wheel vibration and the brake light came on. So I paid $676.00 and nothing got fixed. The only thing I could see is the lug nuts were replaced but not the studs so his original assessment was wrong or maybe an intentional Lie. I called the shop and told them nothing was fixed. He said comeback Monday I asked about retuning Sunday. He said his machanic won't be in till monday. I'm reluctant to go back because I expect he's goin to say there's an additional problem so he can charge me more. I want to get my money back and stop wasting it there. read more

Been coming to this location for the past year after a friends recommendation that they provide excellent customer service. Can I tell you that from the first time at PepBoys I felt they knew more than the associates at the dealer where I bought my car, and no one went beyond their job and service than David. I went just to get an oil change and after the oil change he asked me if I had done any of the scheduled maintaince for my car and had told him no, due to the price. At Subaru a 60,000 service was close to $1,800 but he wrote an estimate that came to about $900 and even explained to me the warranty. I promptly made an appointment and now only have all my car maintaince done at Pepboys. Your company should advertise more that you do service work but more importantly more of your employees should be like David. It's hard to find an employee who takes the time to explain the work, the issue and more importantly has the skill to make you feel important the moment you walk in through that door... Took my car here because I was tired of dealing with my dealership. The first oil change went fine. I took it in for a second oil change. After that I had an oil leak due to the fact that they did not put the filter on properly. I used to do all changes when I was 13. It's not rocket science. Coincidentally two of my bulbs burnt out at the same time on my break lights and one of my shocks was mysteriously missing a bushing. Anything can happen but It's my opinion it doesn't add up. read more

So as soon, as I get there this man on the desk just giving me an attitude and rushing me on the process. So I filled up the papers and stuff and he asked which head light should they change? I said both might as well if you're charging me $114 for the labor. He said no ma'am we only unsrewing half of the bumper for 114 if you want me to do the other bumper to change the headlights that's going to be $287. I was recently involved in an accident which required a new tire (rim/core). I went to my favorite Pep Boys in Chicago Ridge, IL for assistance. Jamie went out of his way to help me find a core/rim and get the new tire on. Respectively, two technicians Chris and Janet performed excellent service on my car. What was equally astonishing to Jamie's eagerness to help, were Janet's efforts: above and beyond the call. Janet was able to get my head light working (electric wiring was moved as a result of the accident impact). This feat allowed me to continue nighttime driving while sorting the matter out with my insurance company. That (unrequested) work was extraordinary and I am indebted and grateful. The store is clean, service desk staff is courteous, free wifi and technicians are very competent and go the extra mile. I'll definitely be back for my oil change soon!! Excellent work, I've owned my 2002 Ranger for about 10 years it is always been shaky around 60 miles an hour, I have taken it to other mechanics who simply told me the truck is old there's not much you can do. My wife and I recently needed to take a long trip which was about a thousand miles and we're thinking of renting a car, instead we did take are truck to Pep Boys see if there was anything they can do. After checking the truck and going through everything knowing I was thinking of taking the truck for a road trip they did find a few things wrong we did have to leave it overnight they did some front suspension work replaced a few tires balancing, bolts Etc the price seemed reasonable as well. The next day when they return my truck it did seem a lot better, we did take her trip a few days later and it was unbelievable the truck never ran or handled better we were doing over 90 without any issues at all made it all the way there and all the way back without any issues. We were seriously considering selling it and buying a new car or truck since we were told by other mechanics that the truck was just old but now we're planning on keeping it since it runs and drives better now than the day I bought it we are extremely happy with the work done. We called on the phone to ask if we came in how long would it be for them to fix a tire leak. They man on the phone said 45 mins. It's been an hour and 15 mins and they haven't even started working on the car. When I spoke to Bert behind the counter he said his corporate office tells them to under quote the time to have people come and wait. What a bunch of BS. At least be honest.
